Bottle feeding of milk causes tooth decay? It is giving of babies sweet drinks with bottles esp at night just before going to bed and even durring bed times that causes that.
If na so many naija babies and babies around the world will be left with no tooth. Anyway sha. Like I posted earlier the mother makes the decision that suits her and her baby. But for those who choose to bottle feed and can be hygenic with it, go ahead.
If you are a dirty and careless mother abeg stick to breast feeding untill baby can eat solids abeg because even the spoon and cup thing will be out in the air for
hrs if baby remanins it and prolly will be fed untill he finishes it.

Abeg google it people. I am not talking about formula fEeding o. Cos we all know Br-east milk is best. I am talking of using the feeding bottle be it with expressed B-reast milk or water or juice.
Most doctors warn against bottles cos most parents are careless and may not clean bottles properly and besides in most cases, bottles means no Bre-ast milk for baby and this is what they don't want which is understandable. But to say a well cleaned bottle and well monitored feeding of an infant from the bottle is bad?
I am not saying don't spoon feed o. If that is your choice and it goes well with baby then by all means roll with it. But, if you choose to use the bottle and you can be hygenic about it, don't be afraid to do so.
Just don't prop an infant with a bottle unattended, don't put juice or sweet drinks in a bottle for a baby. when baby gets to 4 or 5 mos try introducing the cup. Don't give baby sweet drinks just before his bed time be it from bottle or cup as it may cause tooth decay. Be clean, explain how you wash and treat baby's feeding utensils to his care giver so they can handle things in your absence.

No need to argue this matter bottom line is as a mom be clean, handle baby's thing and play area well.watch out for allergies when introducing new feed to baby esp food like eggs, nuts and legumes such as beans and peanuts give only a little at a time and one of these food at a time to watch for baby's reaction to the food. There may be too much damage if baby is allergic to a fOod and mom gives him a large feed of that same food the first time she tries. Watch what you drag into a house with an infant esp a crawling one. Don't neglect fevers or any unussual symptom from baby, take baby for all immunizations, talk sing and play with baby. Stimulate his senses and make him feel loved and you are good to go.

What age do babies develop the reflex to swallow from a cup? Babies have reflex to suck. If I give you a newborn infant how long will it take you to feed him milk with a spoon? Abeg my dear if you have any thing to advice and explain then do it clearly so that we all can see where you are comming from.
Not just quote some one, dissagree and then back out. Hannydarl has not raise 1 million babies so I am still open to learning. Don't just say don't use bottles. State the reasons why and then share with us all how best to do the recomended thing.
I still say mothers should go ahead and use bottles as long as they can follow strict hygine.

Nobody is playing the role of a doctor. Every mom knows to take her child to the doctor if its sick. For generations mothers have bEen known to share experiences and ideas on child care and this forum is one of such.

Pregnant breastfeeding mom. Like I stated earlier many old time moms say. Big NO to it. I don't know if their reasons are true. But if you want to stop BFing, its your choiCe. Don't be afraid to use the bottle abeg just make sure you follow the instruction on the milk can. Wash babys bottles well. Get a plastic bucket, get milton sterilizing tablet get a clean empty bottle of ragolis. Measure the required liters as reqired for the tablet(5liters to 1 tablet. which is, 3bottles and 1/3rd ragolis per tablet) into the bucket and add the tablet. Completely submerge baby's bottles and other feeding utensils into the bucket leaving no bubbles or space and always wash hands before picking baby's stuff or making baby's food.
Always make what baby can finish. If baby does not finish the food after 3mins of preparing it throw it AWAY. As bacteria can grow in milk that is left out in room temp. Bacteria (from baby's mouth or your hand or from milk itself as nothing can be said to be 100% sterile even if you put it in a cup ) when given time can grow and multiply so be careful to feed your baby any kind of food and preserve well any leftovers. Don't feed your child food left out for more than 30mins.
A dirty mother wether she cooses to bRe-ast feed, bottle feed or spoon feed is a danger to her baby. So mothers put in extra effort to protect your babies from preventable diseases.

Though I have heard different reasons not to but they were all wierd reasons like pregnancy spoils the br-east milk or the BFing baby will suck life out of the expected baby etc. And the breastfeeding baby will fall sick and maybe worse.

Besides mother needs her nutriends to grow new baby so maybe BFing may affect the pregnancy. Well, I am not a doctor maybe a doctor here may help us out?

You should promot hygine rather than discouraging the bottle. You can't feed a new born baby milk from a cup or with a spoon. For Ages parents have used the bottle and kids turned out just fine. Nowadays many parents could be careless and lazy granted but let us face facts. Not all mothers will breast feed from day one. Encourage hygine and cleaneliness . Take time out to teach mothers who bottle feed the dangers of not washing the bottles properly
The dangers of using prepared feed for more than 1hr if baby doesn't finish it.
The dangers of not washing the hands before touching babys food.
Just like breastfeeding campaings the government can help educate women who chOose to bottle feed even using expressed br-east milk(for working moms who express milk in bottles for baby when they are out to work) the importance of HYGINE when handling and preparing baby food.

By the way I never said weanning was dependant on bottles go back to my post and see the other option I gave.
Milk is very important to a growing child if mom stops br-east feeding then she MUST look for a suitable alternative and cow's milk it is(except where baby has allergy to lactose) and the baby nEeds something to drink his milk from so if you have any advice post it here. I also am a learner for as long as I am ALIVE.

Well, some people say its not good to Br-east feed when one is expecting. At 7mos its okay to wean if you are willing to but if you want you can Bfeed till one year its your choice.
You can surely wean now but it will depend on if your baby is used to feeding bottles. If he isn't then try making his milk in sippy cup with a spout he is comfortable with. Then buy a formula of your choice that is age appropriate and that suits the health and nutritional needs of your child(some babies are lactose intollerant or may react the soya used in some formula)
When you get the milk give and watch the baby's reaction for the day(same with every new food like eggs, peanut, soyabeans, beans etc you introduce to your baby. Give a little and wait to see if baby will react to it in let's say 1 day if nothing happens you can then go ahead and feed baby normaly)
If all goes well and baby likes it then you found your milk if not, try another. My daughter liked soya beans flavour so she took only one particular SMA milk that contains soya beans.
My kids were not breast fed. I never bought milk or bottles untill 1wk after their birth. I tried to BF for two months but it did not go well. So out of worry I bought the milk.

Just remember to give milk regularly as stated on the milk can you choose to use and don't use hot water to make baby's feed (except where stated) use water warm enough for baby to eat.

I don't qiute get you what way is best question.

Baby food is easy to make. At 8mos on baby can eat from family table just watch out for salt, peper and most importantly ALLERGIES .


4 months - baby still depend on milk for growth and survival but you can start introducing solids.
Wash peel remove core and cook apple till soft. Then mash or blend using water the apple was cooked in or lighten with cool boiled water( use very clean blender if blending after cooking or blend before cooking if you can't guarantee hygine) add formula and feed baby
Grind rice to powder and cook( like akanmu) or cook the rice first and then grind adding cool boiled water to reach the thickness baby can handle then add formula.

Wash peel and mash bananas add cerelac and cool boiled water to get consistency baby can handle or else just add milk and some wate and feed baby.

And of course the uSsual akamu.
For cerels I give my kids cereals that need milk to be sure they get their milk everytime they eat. Some cereals will say" just add water" I do buy them but its to increase foods such as mashed banana and apples if I want to feed fruit. For regular cereal only meals I use Nestium from nestle cos it helps make sure my baby still gets her 180ml milk with her feeds.

6-8mos milk is still important at this stage but baby can add mashed sweet potato, boil egg and feed the baby the yolk in her mashed sweet potato or irish potato, and basically any meal the family gets as long as salt and pepper is not too much.
At 8mos you can give chicken puree with other cooked meals, even fish and goat meat(better than beef) can be soft cooked pureed and added to other pureed foods like carrots, green peas potato and maybe ripe plantain if your child likes it. In addition to the 4mos baby menu.

9mos-1yr baby still needs to drink milk but now has a wider varriety he can eat
You can peel beans cook with irish potato pinch of salt, crayfish and some onion, carrots. grind into puree and feed baby.
Eba, amala etc etc if baby likes feed her. Yam, rice,and any food you eat except food cooked with akaun,honey,raw eggs,raw fish, artificial color etc.

Most babies are choosey you have to pick the best food baby likes and try to combine to get the best nutrition if you are not determined you probably will not be able to maintain the routine cos if there is constant light one can make enough for 3days and freeze but thanks to our government we have to do it everyday.

My kids eat soup from 9mos. I cook white of cthanks thicken(b (b reast) with carrots some liver(small quantity) some tomato and rice when its cooked I blend all and feed them I alternate chicken with beans or egg yolk and rice with Irish potato. I cook this every morning so she has it as second meal for the day.

This is how I fEed my baby from 9 mos

She wakes up at seven and eats at 7:30 or 8 am
1st meal cereal in a bowl of 180ml milk(at 1yr I started giving her Nido for growing infants)

2nd meal (4hrs after 1st) she eats her chicken potato puree or potatato with mashed egg yolk or with beans. She hates cooked rice.

3rd meal mashed banana or apples with cerelac
2hrs later she drinks 180ml of milk

3rd and last meal for the day is nestium cereal as usual with 180ml milk.

At 9mos I feed her with 6o or 90ml of milk before I go to bed(ussualy around 11 pm) so she doesn't wake me up to feed. But if I sleep soon after she does I just take in water and her formular to the room so I can prepare her meal without wasting time cos the more I delay the more awake she gets making it hard for her to fall asleep again. With my son I skipped this part cos he always fed well before going to bed. Except when he is sick.

At 1yr old her last meal for the day is her last except when I know she slept early and skipped her meal or ate very little then I take in formula and water to prep her a drink if she wakes up hungry.
She is not fat or big but tall and normal.

Yes! feed on demand but if baby sleeps for long then wake her every 3hrs to feed. My son loved food as a baby he ate and slept as expected then at 3wks would feed verry well and then hit the sack for 4-5hrs straight. That was when mom decided to wake him up after 3hrs and try to keep him awake for atleast 1hr or 2 durring the day and at night he will be too tired to keep vigil. Most babies that feed well esp, formula fed ones, sleep longer cos they fill up and don't feel hungry at night. My boy at 3mos will eat 120ml every 3hrs in the evening and when he sleeps, sleeps for 6hrs straight. He will even reject his food if I woke him up after 3hrs cos of sleep while my girl eats 60ml every 3hrs and will wake up screaming 3hrly all day and at night cos she wasn't filling up and she did that for 11mos entering 1 year cos she will not eat more than a few spoonful at a time. I think its by luck to get a quiet or needy baby.
At two weeks she is still very small. I hope she doesn't get colic like most babies at that age do hmmmMm if so, she will cry so hard for so long you will feel like crying or pulling out your hair.

At birth - 3mos it is normal for baby to feed every 3hrs. some even do untill 6 mos but by then (6mos) they should have added 1 hour to their sleeping time at night. so, it will be every 4- 5hrs but if you are lucky they go for 6-8hrs straight at night.

For example I am breastfeeding and my baby poops after every meal. A friend said it was not normal, so I got scared Nd introduced formula for one day until I was able to see a Dr the next day. My Dr said it was normal , since color and consistency was what Dr expected.

Now,that I am back to BF my mom thinks she is not eating enough she sucks for 10-15 mins and then falls asleep , she wakes up every 3 hours at night . But during the day she sleeps a lot. Is this normal

Baby needs to eat every 3hrs. Its tempting to let them sleep long anytime they decide to give you a break and sleep for long. But please don't fall for the temptation. Wake the baby up every 3 hrs and feed her. Do this untill 3 mos and after that feel free to let her sleep through the night if she decides to. A newborn bre ast fed baby poops durring or after every meal. It is very normal and expected. A bottle fed baby should also poop like that but because formula is not moms milk it may cause constipation. It is not uncommon for baby to go 2 days without pooping but if it goes beyound that go see your pedi.
When I had my son, he would sleep for long durring the day and keep vigil at night. My mom started timming him she would wake him up every 3hrs and play with him for like 2hrs not leting him sleep too soon so when he slept he slept deeply and well. He feed well at night and from 3mos he started sleeping for 6 - 8hrs straight. pheeewww, Who says its easy to be a new mom we all just look boyound the stress and see the future with our grown up bundles of joy. That is what keeps us going. Knowing that it will not be like this for ever.

solosamste: JoyMary07, U can be putting Moringa powder into your baby's food. it will help greatly in preventing malnutrition and replacement of needed body nutrients.

Yall be careful with what you give your babies. You need to talk to your doctor and get supervision. Moringa powder can cause a baby to poop a lot. If you cook it, it will loose most of those listed nutrients. to put it in a childs food you need to make sure it's picked ,dried and packed neatly in hygenic condition.A lot of these packaging companies dont aPply strict hygine when they pack stuff. I have bought morringa powder that had pepper in it(they prolly use the same machine to grind pepper and other spices they package and sell). Abeg if you are not sOo poor get age appropriate infant formular(BFing is best) buy bannana, apples irish or sweet potato, green peas, rice powder, cerelac etc.
Your baby does not need to be FAT. A healthy well balanced meal may not make a child fat but works internally to help boost immunity and establish proper growth not "FAT"

Mash banana add some cerelac lighten with cool boiled water and feed baby. Mash boiled irish potato mash in boiled egg yolk(6mos baby add egg yolk) add milk and feed baby.cook and Peel green peas(I remove peels cos it causes my baby to have purge) mash and feed baby. Peel, remove seed boil mash(I have a small blender I use only for my baby,s food as it makes it smooth my baby hates lumps in her food) and feed baby apples (not sour ones) with some milk. You can grind rice into smooth powder and cook like tuwo make it light though so baby can drink it when its ready and cool add formular(milk) or Br-east milk and feed baby.
It is not easy to feed a child balanced meal as mom has to be in the kitchen and take time to make the food but the reward is that baby gets to eat unique and nice meals. Some kids just don't like to eat. I had to give my baby multivite syrup to make her eat. When all fails I just give her what ever food she favoured and after a while I try all over again to introduce new menu.

My bro's LO is a few weeks younger than mine. She is FAT and mine is slim. Mine eats potatos, meat, fish,carrots, beans, butter(REAL BUTTER) and cerelac and Milk. She eats the potato mix for lunch everyday and is trim but his eats cerelac and from time to time is Br3ast fed and he even wonders the quantity my LO eats. He says his does not eat 1/3 what mine eats. So bottom line is as long as you feed your baby well balanced healthy meal, she will grow well. As long as her height and weight are not too far behind that of her peers.
