A Federal High Court sitting in Kano has ordered the interim forfeiture of N1billion linked to Patience Jonathan, wife of Nigeria’s former President Goodluck Jonathan.

The interim forfeiture followed a court order secured by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

The money was lodged in three deposits with Fidelity Bank Plc on May 20 and 25, 2015.

The court, presided over by Justice A. Lewis-Allagoa, issued the forfeiture order in response to a motion ex parte filed by the anti-graft commission.

The money was found in the account of Magel Resort Limited, a company linked to the former First Lady Patience Jonathan, following information received by EFCC that a bank account domiciled in Fidelity Bank, had a huge sum of money that was not accounted for.

After preliminary investigation, it was revealed that Mrs. Jonathan and some relatives of the former president were directors of the Company. Others named as directors are Oba Oba Tamunotonye, Goodluck Jonathan Aruera, Goodluck Jonathan Ariwabai and Esther Fynface.

In tracing the origin of the funds, it was discovered that N500,000 was deposited on May 20, 2015 by Fynface, alleged to be in charge of the company, while N1billion was transferred in two tranches on the May 25, 2015 from Pagmat Oil And Gas Nigeria Limited, a company said not to be incorporated with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC).

Justice Lewis-Allagoa held that: “An interim forfeiture order is granted to the Federal Government in the sum of N1,000,494,000 (one billion, four hundred and ninety four thousand naira only) in the bank account of the 1st respondent, Magel Resort Limited 4011019546, which is maintained with the second respondent, Fidelity Bank PLC.”

The court further ordered that the forfeited sum be deposited in the Treasury Single Account of the Nigerian government.

I am planning to do both internal and external plastering of a 4-bedroom bungalow. The building has a sitting room with dinning, Masters bedroom with toilet/bathroom, 3 other bedrooms, kitchen, 2 toilets and one bathroom, a sit-out.

I want to have an idea of the financial implication.

Is there a way costing is done when it comes to plastering?

I would appreciate responses from the experts.

Got a Quotation of about 450K for plastering both interior and exterior for a 3bedroom ensuite..Bricklayer charges was 200K..The bricklayer was the one that did the building from foundation till Paraphet before roofing and co..so for a 4bedroom should not be more than 500 sha.I cant really say

Nobel Laureate Wole Soyinka says the presidential candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) are only worthy of “absolute rejection” as the country needs a new direction.

He also stated that he was open to supporting an “alternative” candidate.

"The Nigerian government has initiated a 10-year National Livestock Transformation Plan (NLTP) as part of efforts to address clashes between herdsmen and farmers.

The plan, according to government, is expected to gulp about N91billion in investments, while a profit of N2trillion is expected over the 10-year period.

The first phase of the plan will take care of grazing reserves in each of the seven pilot states of Adamawa, Benue, Kaduna, Nasarawa, Plateau, Taraba, and Zamfara which have been affected by herdsmen/farmers clashes, with four ranches (small, intermediate, medium and large) in each grazing reserve.

According to the plan as reported by Daily Trust newspaper, ranchers and rearers will be encouraged to bring their cattle to a fattening site wherein the cattle will be fed so as to boost average weight from 200-250 kg to 450-500kg.

If done, livestock farmers are expected to recoup N350,000 per cow at the selling rate of N900 per kilogramme.

According to the plan, “funding would be provided to cover the cost of fattening. Once cattle are enrolled in the programme, the asset owner will sign an agreement with the lender to allow for all cattle to be sold at specified weight range.

“Upon sale, lender deducts the cost of fattening from realized value, and cattle owner keeps the remainder of profit, minimizing risk and upfront investment."

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has filed fraud charges against the immediate-past Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal; a former Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency, Ayodele Oke, and his wife, Mrs. Folashade Oke.

The PUNCH gathered that the anti-graft agency on Wednesday filed 10 counts against Lawal and five others, including his company, Rholavision Engieneering Ltd, before the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory in Abuja.

It filed four counts against Oke and his wife, Folashade, before the Federal High Court, in Lagos.

President Muhammadu Buhari had, in October 2017, sacked Lawal and Oke following a report of investigations by a panel headed by Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo, into allegations of fraud leveled against them.

The charges against the duo are coming over 15 months after they were sanctioned by the President"

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has aimed another snide remark at President Muhammadu Buhari.

On January 20, 2019, Obasanjo had held a State of the Nation broadcast in which he said Nigerians would be "fools" — himself inclusive — if Buhari is reelected into power next month.
The next day, in a video published by BBC, Obasanjo also said Buhari is sick in the body, mind and spirit.

In his most recent take on Buhari, the former President, who was the guest speaker at the Island Club Quarterly Business Lecture, on Wednesday, criticised Buhari for his lenghty absences from office and the country on medical grounds.

In the years since he was sworn in as President of Nigeria in 2015, Buhari has spent 104 days outside the country on medical vacation.

However, speaking on the competence of his former vice, Obasanjo said since he didn’t spend 104 days outside the shores of the country, people may not know that Atiku stood in his stead in many capacities while they were in charge of the country’s administration.

According to Obasanjo, contrary to popular belief, Atiku presided over several Federal Executive Council (FEC) meetings under his 1999-2007 administration.on the latter’s medical vacation.

He also stated that one of the most ridiculous claims he has heard is that he did not trust Atiku, who is the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, to preside over the FEC.

United States Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr. Stuart Symington, on Tuesday said Nigeria should get the 2019 elections right in order not to disappoint those that look up to it after the feat recorded in 2015.

Symington made the remarks when he paid a visit to the Police Command in Kaduna.

“The State of Kaduna is an important place during this election. I am here to underscore a couple of key ideas.

“The first being that these elections are really about Nigerians, decided by Nigerians under it’s laws which will define the future of Nigeria.

“The election is also for others who have looked up to Nigeria’s example of democracy in the past especially if it would be as good as that of the elections of 2015.”

He therefore said it was important for Nigerians to decide on the election’s credibility like they did in 2015, “so that it’s credit will be invested in democracy and freedom throughout West Africa and across the entire World.”

He urged Nigerians to also interrogate politicians using hate speeches and disseminating fake news, as they are capable of dividing or causing problems among the people.

“These kind of negative speeches can have negative impacts in the future.

“There are other people who have pointed fingers at those who are saying the elections would come out wrong, saying the elections can be right if every citizen of Nigeria act on the understanding that they are individually responsible for anything they get from the polls”, he stressed.

He noted that so far, there has been cheering commitments from President Muhammadu Buhari and other leading candidates contesting to rule the country, to ensure that every vote counts.

The U.S. ambassador added that people must take responsibility for their actions, “first before God, second under the laws of the country, in the eyes of countrymen and lastly in the eyes of the world.”



Symington therefore encouraged all Nigerians to participate peacefully in the elections, to guarantee free, fair, peaceful and a credible honest reflection of their choice.

In his remark, the Police Commissioner, Mallam Ahmad AbdurRahman, assured that the command would do its best in providing level playing field to all political parties, candidates and the electorates to actively participate in the polls.

He said it was expected of all Nigerians to conduct themselves according to the rules guiding the election.

“The Police has no interest in the outcome of the elections or the person who wins eventually, ours is to police the process to it’s conclusion.

“We are the referees without a team, just abide by the rules and don’t engage in hate speeches right from the campaign to elections,” Abdur-Rahman said.

The Commissioner stated that the command has commenced the prosecution of those alleged to have engaged in hate speeches during campaigns.

The Lagos State House of Assembly has given Akinwunmi Ambode, Governor of Lagos State, the opportunity to defend the allegations of illegal expenditure regarding the 2019 appropriation bill, before the house decides on the proposed impeachment moves against him.

Right Honourable Mudashiru Obasa stated this during the plenary session held on Monday.

“Within a week, we can come back here and do whatever we want to do regarding those who are clamouring or who have asked for impeachment. And if by the end of the day, there is need to consider whatever response from them, then we can as well move forward,” Obasa said.

The lawmakers are alleging that Ambode has started incurring expenditure on the 2019 budget, which has not yet been presented to the house.

In his remarks on the matter, Obasa said: “There have been violations of the constitutional procedure regarding the budget. You know the consequences of this offence. I must also agree with you that the Attorney General, the Finance Commissioner, who are in the better position to inform the Governor adequately or advise in such manner to have saved him from all these.”

He noted that the budget should have been presented last Monday, but wasn’t, noting that it was out of place for expenses to be incurred on a budget that had not been presented.

“Amidst all that has been said in the media, I would use this medium to clarify this: Lagos State House of Assembly cannot sit and scrutinize a budget which is already incurring expenditure,” Obasa added.

According to the House, a committee was set up and it was discovered that the 2019 budget is already being implemented by the Executive without being laid on the floor of the House. The Committee also noted in its findings that for the 2018 budget, the third quarter had not performed beyond 50 per cent.

The Speaker, however, urged the lawmakers to allow the executive arm of government led by the Governor to defend the “infractions”, before they take action on the matter.

The House has adjourned its sitting till February 4, 2019
