Adamas Oshimhole, National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has accused Atiku Abubakar, presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), of conniving with the ICT unit of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to rig Saturday's election. Oshimhole made this accusation on Tuesday in Abuja at a press conference while reacting to Atiku's statement that APC imported telephone-like devices from China to tamper with card readers. His words: "The implication of this is that assuming without conceding that this allegation is true, it means Atiku is working hand-in-hand with the ICT unit in INEC to know the kind of machines that are deployed to where. "We recognise that INEC is independent. I am not able to determine the type of card readers that it will deploy. I am not in the position to identify where they were imported from. But If Atiku has all of these details, it shows that Atiku is working hand in glove with people within INEC as to know where machines are imported from." Oshimole maintained that Atiku cannot win this election going by the record of 2003 election when he lost his base in Adamawa. He added that he can only remain a permanent presidential hopeful that Nigeria will never have. He said that Atiku's mission is to set the country on fire in order to become President even if for him to preside over a graveyard. He noted that Nigerians will vote without any intimidation, adding that the President is right to affirm that anybody who resorts to thuggery should be dealt with squarely. Oshiomole said that thuggery is anonymous with violence, and the world is unanimous that violence should be removed from the electio. He added that Atiku's opposition to the President's instruction to the Military has exposed PDP's plan to use thuggery in preventing the election from holding or reducing voter turnout http://saharareporters.com/2019/02/19/atiku-working-hand-glove-inecs-ict-unit-oshiomole-alleges?fbclid=IwAR3U5-MCtXBhrpyjNHMgfxdPBdPCxxSWsDC8oRiswI7C2he1JyF7wprdDQI |
Atiku Abubakar, presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has accused the All Progressives Congress (APC) of perfecting a plan to tamper with card readers in order to favour the ruling party, depending on its popularity in each of the six geopolitical zones in the country.http://saharareporters.com/2019/02/19/breaking-atiku-explains-apcs-plans-tamper-card-readers-using-telephone-devices?fbclid=IwAR3XP4M8xy80b3iYZpYRHasrvKt3_c6mI252jlqk-HzME2K_R00-kJuRPBk

Uche Secondus, National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has accused President Muhammadu Buhari of a continuous craving for blood. Secondus made the accusation on Tuesday at an emergency meeting of the party's National Executtive Committee (NEC), in response to Buhari's threat on Monday that "anybody who thinks he has enough influence in his locality to lead a body of thugs to snatch boxes or to disturb the voting system, he will do it at the expense of his own life". After speaking for a few minutes, Secondus said: "Before I end this address, let me emphasise once again that Nigerians are tired of President Buhari. And of a truth, over three years, killings and killings and now you have ordered that more people should be killed. Why do you like blood? I want to ask you, Buhari: Why do you like blood? "Why do you want to kill your country men and women — for the sake of election? That you must be President? You know you are not God. Buhari, I’m addressing you, you know you are not God. "All your actions in the last three years are against the people of Nigeria: hunger, killings, unemployment; you are not sensitive to it. Even in your party, you divided your party. You have been a divisive leader. You divided your party in Imo, you divided your party in Ogun State, just for you to be President. And that’s how you have divided the country." http://saharareporters.com/2019/02/19/breaking-pdp-chairman-asks-buhari-why-do-you-blood-why?fbclid=IwAR0qgcewOJMQqzvnxJev9G-xqGtKyu9iiPl2cMtj76Z7SawBH8Wl4SWhUD4 |
The Independent National Electoral Commission says the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Atiku Abubakar, never offered the Resident Electoral Commissioner in Adamawa State, Kashim Gaidam, $1m or a house in Dubai. INEC said this in a Facebook post while reacting to social media rumours that Atiku had compromised the Adamawa elections. A report which trended on social media on Monday read in part, “Breaking News: I rejected Atiku’s $1m bribe plus a house in Dubai- Adamawa REC”. https://punchng.com/atiku-never-offered-adamawa-rec-1m-bribe-inec/?fbclid=IwAR2IJp2Dh4HMGN23QLVrHhNm8IPnbXXQGbsjVC775NOL7M7dsqN3VsI3vLM |
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has approved the resumption of political campaigns ahead of the rescheduled presidential and National Assembly elections slated for February 23, 2019. A statement by Festus Okoye, National Commissioner and Chairman, Information and Voter Education Committee, issued on Monday, noted that the commission took the decision after reviewing its preparations for the elections, as well as consultations with political parties. The campaigns are expected to end officially by midnight on Thursday, February 21, 2019. The statement read: “After consultations with political parties, the Commission has approved that campaigns by parties and candidates can resume forthwith and end by midnight of Thursday, 21st February, 2019. “Media organisations are at liberty to accept, publish, broadcast and circulate campaign materials up till midnight of Thursday, 21st February, 2019. Political parties and their candidates are enjoined to abide by the extant laws governing campaigns.” The commission also thanked Nigerians for their understanding regarding the rescheduling of the elections, just as it appealed to stakeholders to be “dispassionate and circumspect in their comments”. “The Commission is focusing on the elections to be held on 23rd February and 9th March to ensure that they are free, fair and credible. We urge all Nigerians to participate fully in the elections, notwithstanding the disappointment,” the statement added. A press conference on the updated preparations of the commission is scheduled for Tuesday, February 19, 2019 at the International Conference Centre in Abuja at 3pm. http://saharareporters.com/2019/02/18/breaking-inec-endorses-resumption-political-campaigns?fbclid=IwAR0EBPLrC2raGhd14Quksp_zdJpnldzUIHG3Wzb-mNtBEG6zASO_IboeBR8 |

The Federal High Court in Abuja has stopped the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission from declaring wanted, a former Chairman of the Presidential Task Force on Pension Reforms Mr. Abdulrasheed Maina, who was suspected of complicity in diversion of pension funds. The EFCC had declared him wanted after news broke in 2017 that Maina, who had been dismissed from the federal civil service in 2013 on the basis of the corruption charges leveled against him, had been reinstated. But in her judgment delivered on January 31, 2019, Justice Folasade Giwa-Ogunbanjo, held that the EFCC could not declare Maina wanted without first obtaining a court order. Delivering judgment in the suit filed by Maina on September 5, 2018, Justice Giwa-Ogunbajo ruled that the EFCC could not exercise its powers under sections 1(2)(c), 6, 7, 13 of the EFCC Act without recourse to court. A certified true copy of her judgment reads in part, “The plaintiff’s second prayer is a declaration that without recourse to any safeguard in sections 35, 37, 41 and 42 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), including a judicial intervention, order of court pursuant to sections 1(1), 8(1) and 42(2) of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act 2015, the 1st defendant cannot lawfully exercise its discretion, powers and or functions under sections 1(2)(C), 6, 7, 13 of the Economic and Financial Crimes Act, 2004, ditto section 4 of the Police Act, 2004 within the confines of the law.” https://punchng.com/breaking-court-stops-efcc-from-declaring-maina-wanted/?fbclid=IwAR2xjzL3EcwmioLHKLvPfWlB6chaYLKdvMPt3KnnSc5TTIJSgo_oyDQJm8M |
The All Progressives Congress (APC) has resolved to continue with its campaign in the light of the postponement of the elections. This was announced by Adams Oshiomhole, the APC National Chairman, at the party’s national caucus meeting held in Abuja on Monday. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) announced the postponement of the elections by one week, respectively, hours before the presidential and National Assembly elections were scheduled to begin on Saturday, February 16, 2019. At another conference with political stakeholders later that Saturday, Professor Mahmood Yakubu, the INEC Chairman, had stressed that campaigns remained suspended. However, the APC has taken a contrary position, insisting that it would continue with campaigns till Thursday, in line with the provision of the Electoral Act. Oshiomhole said: “You know that when you have low voter turnout, that is when election rigging is most easy. Voter turnout and voter apathy can result from the confusion. If at our level, we are sufficiently disturbed, what would be the fate of the ordinary man? I think we need to remind them across the country that elections have been rescheduled and they should have trust, faith, and remain determined to vote. The process of doing that would require that we return to campaign between now and Thursday this week. Friday is not a campaign day. “To ask us as a political party not to go out? The members, our people, would have forgotten. Some would have assumed that ‘look, I’m not sure what these people want’. And the result could be very, very low turnout. That is not good for a party that has huge, huge support base. It can only be good for a party that is not sure of its level of grassroots support. “So, without consulting INEC, we are proceeding and we are ready to meet them in court. Because they cannot by administrative fiat amend or distort extra provisions in the relevant electoral act and those laws are not secret to INEC.” http://saharareporters.com/2019/02/18/breaking-without-consulting-inec-we%E2%80%99re-proceeding-campaign-says-apc?fbclid=IwAR1JIG-dmXsM9C_Kqmkl1OTxdLGFWYuzQVoEs6PZwnwzyvvtPIRCYvvrr7I |

The Transition Monitoring Group (TMG), Human and Environmental Development Agenda (HEDA) and the Election Observation Platform have expressed doubts over the integrity of Nigeria's electoral commission. In a statement signed by Abiola Akiode-Afolabi, Chairperson, TMG and Suraju Olanrewaju Chairman, HEDA, the groups, expressing disappointment in the last-minute postponement of the election, noted that the commission cannot continue with the poor management of logistics. The groups opined that the continuous postponement of elections in Nigeria has raised more questions on the integrity of the electoral system. The statement read: “Despite repeated assurances of preparedness, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) attributed the postponement to logistics and operational challenges. “The details were, however, not explained, neither was any apology tendered. We also note that these challenges have continued to plague our elections over time and now constitute a threat to the integrity of the electoral system. We cannot continue with the template of poor management of logistics as a reason for postponing elections.” The groups said they hope INEC would resolve all of its problems before the rescheduled date, and urged Nigerians to come out en masse to participate in the elections. “We, however, hope that INEC would resolve its logistics issues before the newly scheduled dates for the elections, as we urge Nigerians and friends of Nigeria not to be discouraged in exercising their civic responsibility to elect the leaders of their choice to various political offices.” TMG, HEDA and the Election Observation Platform compelled political parties not to act in a way that would affect the elections, urging them to rise above partisan considerations. http://saharareporters.com/2019/02/18/csos-express-doubt-over-integrity-nigerias-electoral-commission?fbclid=IwAR2t7Bvyf9BhpRY16Attoih3IqnaJeIP9YIUHdbdUIbt82ZPJkg4uBH-Tx0 |
Governor Abiola Ajimobi of Oyo State has urged Nigerians to give INEC the benefit of the doubt by accepting the reasons it gave for postponing Saturday’s election. The Governor’s Special Adviser on Communications and Strategy, Mr Bolaji Tunji made this known in a statement made available to newsmen in Ibadan on Saturday. Ajimobi advised against speculations and spreading fake news capable of igniting crisis in the country, calling for sober reflection among the players to ensure the sanctity of the electoral process. “Having come this far in the country’s democratic experience, no sacrifice should be too much for individuals and institutions to pay to protect the sanctity of democracy as an all-inclusive and best form of government. “Painful as the last minute decision taken by INEC is, I appeal to Nigerians to give the commission the benefit of the doubt by accepting the reasons they have enumerated as valid and genuine. “I have no doubt in my mind that the INEC Chairman has his integrity at stake and would not dabble into anything that would rubbish his many years of meritorious service in the public service. “Instead of needless hysteria and blame games, this unfortunate development should be an opportunity for key players in the election process to go on sober reflection on how good governance could be further enshrined in the country,” he said. The governor admonished INEC to ensure that the new dates remained sacrosanct so that the confidence reposed in them by Nigerians who believed that they have the best of intention will not be eroded. The governor called on the leaders and followers of the party to remain calm. https://punchng.com/ajimobi-urges-nigerians-to-accept-inecs-reasons-for-election-postponement/?fbclid=IwAR3SXvQCpcrxhLPOL_0hzjjtU3qtlfuzuRU75Qvfp788MDLNXbEfnQoM8bA |

More than 300 members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) protested in Maiduguri on Friday over the replacement of their names as ad hoc staff of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for the presidential and National Assembly elections scheduled for Saturday. They protested in front of the Old Maiduguri Police Station in Jere Local Government Area of Maiduguri, the Borno State capital. According to the NYSC members, their names came out on the first list, but on getting to their various centres, the names have been changed to another set of names. A staff member of the Borno chapter of NYSC alleged that some INEC staff connived with politicians replace the names of corps member with those of party faithful. "Let me tell you; our state coordinator has informed the state Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Mohammed Ibrahim, about this, but he promised that nobody can replace corps members, because they are automatically automatically qualified to work," the NYSC official told SaharaReporters. "Hundreds of them have called to tell us about how INEC has replaced their names with strange people presumed to be political supporters. This is really sad. They have undergone training and now their names have been replaced." However, Lawan Turawa, the state NYSC Coordinator, appealed to the irate corps members to be calm and promised to resolve the issue. He assured the NYSC members that he would personally take the names to the state REC for reconsideration. They have demanded an explanation from INEC on why their names were replaced, and urged the INEC Chairman to punish the errant staff. The corps members have vowed not to leave the place unless their names are restored because they were shortlisted earlier. http://saharareporters.com/2019/02/15/protests-borno-over-sudden-replacement-nysc-ad-hoc-staff-political-supporters?fbclid=IwAR12IE_dh5gdpEeAI66JvT_fSjEgdUh6E8XLA6uGkZ3du88tQOv8VCJRY6w omolola15 your guy buhari has already started his rigging plans..If he had done so well he no go do this kain thing o... ![]() |
