i have done the above bolded. infact i used to be an uncommitted christian as a kid, not like i did not love and fear god, but i was just a kid doing kid stuff. then when i grew a bit older, my senior secondary school days, i became more and more conscious about God, his will for my life and commitment to God. then i started doing all the above that you recommended. i grew very quickly in faith. i became very passionate about soul winning..... got baptized in water and in the holy spirit. all i wanted was to be whatever God wanted me to be, nothing else matters. God was the very beginning and end for me. I had an habit of reading the bible genesis to revelation withing 4-5months and i would write down what the holy spirit was ministering to me as i read. i lived like this until i got to 400 level when i began to access other information about my faith and the history of Christianity. i cannot deceive myself. these contrary information i was getting were factual, i struggled for a long time dismissing them with all manner of excuses, but i knew i was not being honest with myself. indeed, the whole scriptures were questionable, the whole christian experience was questionable, i just had to admit it.
why are some miracles never possible?
the ones we even think we are sure of, how real are they?
what exactly makes a christian better than a muslim or even an unbeliever?
asking practical questions from people like witches (yes i was a deliverance minister so had access to people coming for deliverances) proved that they were delusional and had no powers actually, they could be said to have mental issues, even thought it did not affect them from living normal lives, but they really were delusional.
i used to see angels, demons, spirits etc. all of a sudden i realized i was hallucinating, they were not real. i had put myself in that mental state aided by the effects of prolonged fastings and prayers.
the bible is full of contradictions, and outright lies everyother useful information there are commonsense wisdom. the othrstuff that should really distinguish the bible are practical lies.
what is the actual history of my dear religion. how did it start, where did the bible come from, etc and i realized this religion is just a man made religion.

i have had discussions with friends, they all are unable to defend or answer questions i am asking. all they want to do is refer to what the bible says. question is, is the bible even from god. a book just tells you hell, heaven, jesus, god, donkey, snake, dragon and you just believe and why do you believe? because the book says you should believe.

i have seen a lot and experienced a lot. i have learned lot and investigated a lot. this whole religion thing is man made, that is why when it faces real practical questions, all you can do is claim only god knows or you shift the goal post, you find excuses. that is why hospitals a booming, that is why pastors are quickly evolving to preach prosperity and make the church a place of entertainment and motivational speaking, because they quickly are finding out they cannot sustain the lies that god answers prayers, so they have to adopt to the realities. tb Joshua tried so much to sustain the aura that there are spiritual powers but we keep seeing him exposed when ever it really mattered. it is same story everywhere. i listen to pastors teach now and i laugh, because these words meant life and death to me when i was a believer, but now they sound so stupid, i realize they are just saying nonsense because the listeners are conditioned to take it as wisdom and word from a god. when you really think about what is being said, it is all childish nonsense.

I also salute your courage, not many people can come out in the open to admit their errors and seek resolution. Also your story about your religious past was very enlightening, I am not sure I could bring myself to tell mine because I am still kicking myself for being so foolish for so long. I was an atheist from birth, atheist as in I did not have the priviledge of being brainwashed to believe anything as my parents simply didn't have the time,
being immersed in ma studying to be a nurse and pa a lawyer. ​

My first awareness of gods were Egyptian, as dad was immersed in their study too, and the Roman and Greek gods I was taught about in my non-Nigerian nursery school, along with the Five Ws and one H, which is like mud rubbed in the eyes, and an antidote to belief.

I was first introduced to belief on arrival in Nigeria, aged 7, and you could imagine how hard it must have been to be told at that age to believe what you are told as opposed to what you experienced with your own senses, or alternative explanations for what you are being told to now believe. It's like being told the white you see is black, I guess, which should at least make one go back and check. Imagine, however, how almost impossible it would be to have checked, found it is the white you first saw it was, and then being insistently told, it is indeed black and that you must accept it is black! And I did check, reading the Bible from page 1 all the way page by page to the end as my 9 to 11 year old project - it wasn't exactly as if I had anything better to do, not having a telly in the house three floors up and not being allowed downstairs to play much for fear gboọmọgbọmọ would whisk away ma's precious child. And at the end I knew I could not possibly believe a single word in it just as I wouldn't believe a single word in a story about Tom and Jerry!

That, I think, being told to abandon what you perceive with your own senses and accept what others now tell you, should be hard if not nigh impossible, but it sounds like you managed to do so, lol, abandon what you perceived with your own senses and accept what you were told to believe. (Or perhaps it was that you were blinded with belief from birth and could not even look to see with your own eyes) I too would be extremely mad at myself when I my eyes finally open and I get to see how naked I had been, especially since Christ is written to have gone about opening people's eyes so that they may see for themselves instead of believing what some other person told them they saw.

Na, I don't agree that it is hard to be atheistic to the beliefs of people around me and use my own senses instead. After all, its not as if everyone has mud spat on and rubbed in their eyes. And even if they had had mudded rubbed in their eyes, not many bother to go bath in the Pool of Siloam, is what I have found, so why trust their senses more than my own?.

While some might not mind being Adams enslaved by the fear of death in a garden of Eden, some of us would rather be use her own senses Eve to find out for ourselves if it is true that we shall surely die on the day that we eat. I mean, it is pointless fearing death, right, because once one is dead, one is dead. But imagine if you then don't die but go on to live for some 800 years! That ought to make one wonder, I'd think.

Most professing Christian's are actually more followers of their pastors than followers of Christ.

Truth is most Christian's are living in denial. Which is why I admire your honesty.

So many Christian's are doing worse things than unbelievers but go to church on Sunday and lead praise and worship. I had a youth pastor that was servicing the girls in both the choir and drama group.
And those who knew did nothing about it.

And I know fellow workers that were doing things that we knew but just christianized it that God is going to save him.
Imagine telling a Christian after conversion, discipleship and even working for the Lord that God is still going to save them?
Does that not simply mean that Christianity like other religions is flawed and doesnt have all the answers?

I was a firebrand Christian like you too. Did all the confession of faith genuinely, submitted myself to baptism, discipleship, even joined various church departments. At some point I was among the youth leaders, I was a teacher of foundation class, i was in the evangelism group and made evangelism my priority since those were supposedly the last words of Jesus according to Matthew and Mark.
I was in the cleaning department, PR department where we welcomed new comers, prayer warriors (though we called it prayer academy) and availed myself for various other church responsibilities.

I even evangelise my own boss at work.
When she issued me a query, I saw it as an opportunity to preach Christ to the management and that was exactly what I did. I apologized for missing a Saturday training with the excuse that I was doing God's work.

But guess what? After some time, I realised I was simply trying so hard to believe what was not real.
Then I decided if Jesus preached against religiousness and hypocrisy I could not afford to live as one.

So your story is something I resonate with.
But most nairalanders professing to be Christian's are not even workers in their church, just bench warmers yet they judge others just the same way Muslims judge non-Muslims.

2. do you really want the truth or you want to continue to live in fantasies. i am a living proof too, all these so called claims of Juju, witches, people who have powers etc are all lies. such people do not exist. it is funny some people still think there are real magicians that have real powers despite many videos being available online that would teach you how these incredible magic tricks are done. they are just tricks.

i just hope somebody would actually take time to watch, listen and learn.

it is so painful to see people deeply deceived that there is a spiritual force that affects the physical and yet once closely investigated we always find that they are just lies.

If there is to be a singular definition for the Christian religion, Christians would want it to be the word LOVE

BUT how true is it that this religion is a religion of love. do we even see it?

You would only believe this religion is founded and defined by love when you have not examined the actions of these group, they actually are the direct opposite. They not only hate unbelievers, they hate themselves, they even hate those they are in the same church with... before you think i am making baseless accusations here, let me prove it to you and i am going to use example we can all relate to.

1. CHRISTIANS DO NOT HELP EACH OTHER
Go to any church, i mean ANY, absolutely any one. You will discover that only the members have classes. There are the Rich, and the Poor class. They important and less important class. a Christian would spend N45million to buy a Prado SUV, when he has church members that cannot even pay their hospital bills, cannot pay rent, cannot feed and i am not talking about lazy members, i am talking about those that are hardworking even in the church, yet the rich and privileged members dont care. What they really want is for them to be highly recognized in the church as the babas that are running things. When pastor calls for donations you will see them gallantly stepping out to donate millions of naira, but go to them and tell them you need money for hospital bills, they will give you N2,000. The early church was not like this (according to the acts of apostles anyway). So what went wrong? These people actually don’t give a flying f**k about Jesus or love. They are in the religion because it makes them feel special.

2. I HAVE YOU IN MY PRAYERS = I WILL BE GOSSIPING ABOUT YOU
One popular way of gossiping in the Christian circle is share other people’s problems while pretending to care about them. If you care so much, why not help them? They would rather offer to pray for you than help you. They would rather offer to advice you than actually help you.
you would see them calling each other and sharing problems of others confided in them

They don’t care if you die, that only makes the gist sweeter for them. The church is full of backbiters; going about sharing all the problems people confided in them to others even to those outside the church. You tell one single person your problem, they have broadcasted it to even one in the church already, yet no body will come forward to help you. They will just be praying for you aka spreading your gist.

3. THEY THINK THEY ARE BETTER THAN THEMSELVES AND OTHERS
Even members of the same church think they are better than other members. The rich think they are better than the poor. The poor members think they are more righteous than the rich. They think those that are die are sinners, they think those that have cancer or covid must be sinners. They think god loves them than any other person. In fact they even say it

Pastor: tell your neighbor, “God loves me more than you!”
Church members (screaming and facing and pointing to one another): “GOD LOVES ME MORE THAN YOU!!!!!”

They don’t just say it, they believe they are special even though they are very useless and just a waste to humanity contributing nothing to the betterment of the world.

it is just too hard for some people to even pretend to be christians. i laugh at a lot of people who claim i was not a christian and yet they lie, they curse. as a christian i could not ever call anyone unsavoury names. infact i would say losing my faith made me lose alot of "virtue" honestly. i am very different now, a proper "sinner" yet i see those trying to tell me what christianity is and is not and they dont even know the basics because they do not read their bible, they are not committed, they are just christian wannabes like ishilove and anas09.

If being born again is by christian knowledge then most professors of theology and divinity would have been frontiers of the advancement of the message of Christ but sincerely it is not.
The average apostle of Christ like Peter, John, James among others were not schooled. Moreover there were no mass production of books then.
Being in Christ that is being born again is far beyond being a bible reader, it takes a spiritual and supernatural work of God by his Holy Spirit to get that done. Have you not read as it is written, the letter kills but the spirit gives life.
Being born again is not by being knowledgeable about the Holy Scriptures else Nicodemus would have been comprehend the message of Christ to him.
See, it is good to read the Holy Bible, but it is better to be taught by those whom God have helped to be strong by reason of their experiences in life and conducts concerning the Christian life. True it is that the Holy Spirit is our teacher, but there are things we will read and will not understand except we have teachers to teach us else we get confused.
