Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike has expressed happiness that the Real Madrid Football Academy has become a reality, saying that major international football stars will be groomed at the facility.

Addressing journalists on Thursday after inspecting the Real Madrid Football Academy in readiness for the commissioning programme on Saturday, Governor Wike said that all the facilities have been put in place for the successful take off of the Academy.

"The administrator in charge of Africa and Asia for Real Madrid will be in Port Harcourt on Thursday night. Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State will be commissioning the project on Saturday.

"When we promised that we will set up a Real Madrid Football Academy that will help groom International Stars in the area of football, so many people played politics and said that it was fake.

"We are happy that it has come to fruition. We have sent people to Madrid and they have been trained as instructors and coaches. We also sent the players of Banham Model Primary School, winners of Channels Television Kids Cup to Madrid for training. They will form the first set of students ", he said.

The Governor said said the development of the Real Madrid Football Academy is a confirmation that his Administration is serious with keeping promises made to Rivers people.

He said on Saturday Nigerians will watch live on television to excellent facility that will produce the next set of international soccer stars.

Also on Thursday, Governor Wike visited the Judges Quarters, which will be commissioned by the Administration in October 2019.

He said: "Rivers State has provided the Basic Infrastructure for the Judiciary. Anybody who comes here will attest to the fact that Rivers State has provided quality infrastructure for the Judiciary to do their work as expected ".

The Governor later inspected the Fruit Garden Market built by his administration after the initial market was gutted by fire. The Fruit Garden Market will be commissioned next week.

Bayelsa State Governor and People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Governors’ Forum Chairman, Seriake Dickson, has warned party leaders not to issue statements not authorised by him.

A recent statement, attributed to Dickson, had declared that the tribunal judgement on the 2019 presidential poll, which upheld President Muhammadu Buhari victory, would not stand.

Dickson, in a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Fidelis Soriwei, in what can be termed as a tacit denial of the tribunal ruling statement, condemned the unacceptable conduct by some persons who used his name without seeking his clarification and consent to make comments on national issues.

Dickson, who said while he is reputed to make comments on sensitive national issues, it is odd and criminal for any person or group of persons to make attributions to him in statements he did not authorise.

He warned those behind the act to desist forthwith, stressing it was the conventional standard for him to be consulted on all statements to avoid being misrepresented.

“It has come to my attention that some PDP members are using my name to issue statements without seeking my consent and approval, especially on issues involving the PDP Governors’ Forum. Everyone knows I am capable of taking positions on national issues. Cowards should not hide under my name and that of the forum to make statements. I have always made statements on issues that I am passionate about without any fear.

“I condemn in very strong terms any tendency to wilfully use my name to issue statement without my consent. It is reprehensible, condemnable and must stop forthwith. Henceforth, all statements emanating from the PDP Governors’ Forum must be authorised personally by me,” he said.

A serving Assistant Commissioner of Police in Rivers State, Victor Onugbo, yesterday, tendered a document before the Governorship Election Petition Tribunal, in Port Harcourt, authenticating the electoral victory of Governor Nyesom Wike, during the March 9 election.

Onugbo, who serves at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Port Harcourt, appeared before the tribunal based on the court subpoena on the Commissioner of Police.

Responding to questions from counsel to African Action Congress (AAC), Henry Bello, Onugbo told the tribunal that the document he presented was the incident report of all that occurred during the election. He said the report was sealed by the Rivers State Police Command.

Onugbo also told the court that the commissioner of Police, Usman Belel, signed the documents after declaration of the winner of the March 9 election.

Also, responding to questions from Governor Wike counsel, Emmanuel Ukala (SAN), on certified copies, Onugbo said the documents were certified and kept in the custody of the officer in charge of legal matters at the command.

He also told the court that he was an observer during the election. He dismissed evidence that police were indicted in the alleged electoral violence in the state.

Meanwhile, AAC has closed cross-examination of its witnesses with Onugbo’s appearance in court.

The tribunal adjourned till today for the Independent National Electoral Commission to present its witnesses.

The Governorship, National and State House of Assembly Election Petitions Tribunal in Katsina State yesterday relocated its sitting venue from Katsina to Abuja. Thickmatch reports'

The tribunal has been holding its proceedings in the Katsina State High Court since it inauguration six months ago.

An administrative officer of the three-man panel, who pleaded anonymity, told journalists in Katsina yesterday, that the “tribunal have to relocate to Abuja for security reasons.

The source, who couldn’t disclose the new venue of the tribunal in Abuja, said: “The sitting is now taking place in Abuja and not in Katsina again.”

However, the state Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Hon. Salisu Yusuf Majigiri,  reported to thickmatch.com that there was no official document informing the party of the relocation of the tribunal to Abuja.

He said PDP and its 2019 governorship candidate, Senator Yakubu Lado, would honour the ‘oral’ invitation to attend the sitting in Abuja before they would make their final stand on the decision taken by the three-man panel.

According to him, “We have just been told of the change in the venue of the tribunal. It is now shifted to a magistrate court at Wuse, Abuja. We are on our way there now for the adoption of the addresses slated for tomorrow (Tuesday) before we can make our stand known to the public."

Meanwhile, before the announcement of the new venue, counsel to the parties in the governorship petition were supposed to adopt their various written addresses today (Monday) before the tribunal would give a date for the ruling on the petition.

Senator Lado and his party, the PDP, had dragged Governor Aminu Bello Masari and his party, All Progressives Congress (APC), before the tribunal, challenging the result of the March 9, 2019, governorship election.

Masari, APC and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) are the first, second and the third respondents in the petition. Thickmatch.com reports'

Estimating the number of atheists in the U.S. is complicated. Some adults who describe themselves as atheists also say they believe in God or a universe  . At the same time, some people who identify with a religion (e.g., say they are Protestant, Catholic or Jewish) also say they do not believe in God.

But one thing is for sure: Along with the rise of religiously unaffiliated Americans (many of whom believe in God), there has been a corresponding increase in the number of atheists. As nonbelievers and others gather in Washington, D.C., for the “Reason Rally,” here are key facts about atheists and their beliefs:

1. The share of Americans who identify as atheists has roughly doubled in the past several years.

Pew Research Center’s 2014 Religious Landscape Study found that 3.1% of American adults say they are atheists when asked about their religious identity, up from 1.6% in a similarly large survey in 2007. An additional 4.0% of Americans call themselves agnostics, up from 2.4% in 2007.

2. Atheists, in general, are more likely to be male and younger than the overall population; 68% are men, and the median age of atheist adults in the U.S. is 34 (compared with 46 for all U.S. adults).

Atheists also are more likely to be white (78% are Caucasian vs. 66% for the general public) and highly educated: About four-in-ten atheists (43%) have a college degree, compared with 27% of the general public.

3. Self-identified atheists tend to be aligned with the Democratic Party and with political liberalism.

About two-thirds of atheists (69%) identify as Democrats (or lean in that direction), and a majority (56%) call themselves political liberals (compared with just one-in-ten who say they are conservatives).

Atheists overwhelmingly favor same-sex marriage (92%) and legal abortion (87%). In addition, three-quarters (74%) say that government aid to the poor does more good than harm.

4. Although the literal definition of “atheist” is “a person who does not believe in the existence of a god or any gods,” according to the Merriam-Webster dictionary, 8% of those who call themselves atheists also say they believe in God or a universal spirit.

Indeed, 2% say they are “absolutely certain” about the existence of God or a universal spirit. Alternatively, there are many people who fit the dictionary definition of “atheist” but do not call themselves atheists. About three times as many Americans say they do not believe in God or a universal spirit (9%) as say they are atheists (3%).

5. Unsurprisingly, more than nine-in-ten self-identified atheists say religion is not too or not at all important in their lives, and nearly all (97%) say they seldom or never pray. At the same time, many do not see a contradiction between atheism and pondering their place in the world.

Three-in-ten (31%) say they feel a deep sense of spiritual peace and well-being at least weekly. A similar share (35%) often thinks about the meaning and purpose of life. And roughly half of all atheists (54%) frequently feel a deep sense of wonder about the universe, up from 37% in 2007. In fact, atheists are more likely than U.S. Christians to say they often feel a sense of wonder about the universe (54% vs. 45%).

6. In the 2014 Religious Landscape Study, self-identified atheists were asked how often they share their views on God and religion with religious people.

Only about one-in-ten atheists (9%) say they do at least weekly, while roughly two-thirds (65%) say they seldom or never discuss their views on religion with religious people. By comparison, 26% of those who have a religious affiliation share their views at least once a week with those who have other beliefs; 43% say they seldom or never do.

7. Virtually no atheists (1%) turn to religion for guidance on questions of right and wrong, but increasing numbers are turning to science.

About a third of atheists (32%) say they look primarily to science for guidance on questions of right and wrong, up from 20% in 2007. A plurality (44%) still cite “practical experience and common sense” as their primary guide on such questions, but that is down from 52% in 2007.

8. Americans like atheists less than they like members of most major religious groups.

A 2014 Pew Research Center survey asked Americans to rate groups on a “feeling thermometer” from zero (as cold and negative as possible) to 100 (the warmest, most positive possible rating). U.S. adults gave atheists an average rating of 41, comparable to the rating they gave Muslims (40) and far colder than the average given to Jews (63), Catholics (62) and evangelical Christians (61).
