The age-long communal crisis between two communities in Ado-odo/Ota Local Government area of Ogun State may have come to an end as former President Olusegun Obasanjo declared that “the war is over for good”. A statement by the Special Assistant to Obasanjo on Media, Kehinde Akinyemi, on Sunday, revealed that the two communities: Itele and Ayetoro-budo, have been at daggers drawn over the years, with attendant loss of lives and property. The crisis, according to Akinyemi, snowballed into major strife in 2004 and since then, all efforts to bring both sides to a roundtable for successful truce have been met with brick wall. At a meeting held at the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library, Abeokuta, the former President was reported to have told the fueding communities that it was time to bury the hatchet in the interest of future generations. Akinyemi said the meeting, which drew emotions from participants, had Obasanjo reechoing the memories of the civil war, saying, “despite the war, those of us pointing guns at each other at the war front, sat down to reconcile and ended the war. “That is the beauty of disagreement. Coming together again to settle and move on in the interest of peace, progress and future generations. It is time to come together in your areas. I want to appeal to you all to sheath your swords”, Obasanjo said. The Onibudo of Ayetoro-budo, Oba Adewunmi Adeniji Odutala, in his address, assured that peace and progress would return to the town. He thanked the former President for his efforts to bring both sides together again, despite futile attempts of the past. “I want to really appreciate you Sir and our highly respected Baba (Obasanjo). I promise that with this, we have no option than to put the past behind us in the interest of all that you have mentioned.” he said. Speaking on behalf of Itele community, Alhaji Kazeem Ajiboye also assured that, “the war is over. We cannot but thank our father, who has the interest of Itele and Ayetoro at hearts more than us. We shall put the past behind us”. Akinyemi added that a 10-member committee, five representatives each from Ayetoro-budo and Itele, was composed at the meeting. The committee, he said, would work on how compensation and rehabitation would be achieved for peace to reign among indigenes and residents of the two communities. He wrote as follows: SUSPECTED CRIMINAL HIDE OUT SPOT AT OSHODI The bus in the picture is the new stationed home of criminals around the Oshodi axis. The bus which is abandoned in front of a company next to Ebony Life TV on Industrial Avenue road which also houses institutions like Glaxo Smithklin GSK, Union Bank, The Fountain of Life Church, Nestle PLC, Nicapaco, UBA Bank, and the rest, now serves as a means to exploiting innocent citizens by some Oshodi bad boys. Preliminary investigation done by my team has it that the vehicle has been parked and abandoned there for close to a year, and countless number of innocent people have been victims of harassment and robbery at that same spot within the past one year. Three security guards working with some of the companies around where the bus is parked who spoke to us in anonymity disclosed that; the Oshodi boys usually sleep and hide inside the bus at night to carry out their criminal acts on persons either going home from work at night or those going to work in the early hours of the morning. We also gathered that they sometimes use Keke Marwa and Okada to rob people of their belongings and snatch bags and phones of especially ladies. Aside two of my fans who has reportedly said they were attacked and dispossessed of their bags, phones and other items at that spot, the security guards also mentioned several other criminal incidences like deflation of tyres of vehicles parked around the spot to rob the owners while trying to replace the tyres, amongst others. To our amazement, we discovered during the cause of our investigation that the Ilupeju Police Division is just a few metres away from where the bus is parked, while the LASTMA office at Oshodi is on the other side where the newly constructed Oshodi bus terminal 3 is located. While we were still trying to gather more information about the bus and the heavy criminal activities going on there, we sighted and flagged down one Ilupeju Police Division bus (painted in Police colour) which came to buy fuel at the Total filling station beside PZ Industries; to share our observations with them, but they immediately yelled at us shouting that we should go and remove the vehicle by ourselves. #PoliceToo?... Na wa o. Hmmm! As responsible citizens of this country, we are expected to join forces with both the government and the security agencies to fight insecurity in the state and Nigeria as a whole by reporting any security threats, criminal acts and or conspiracies to the relevant security agencies. To this end, we want to use this medium to call on the Lagos State Government, Governor, the Nigerian Police Force, and LASTMA to look into this issue and help the innocent and helpless citizens around the affected area to bring a lasting solution to this matter. We trust that the governor @jide-sanwolu will won't see this report and keep quiet. Also, as long and as dangerous as Industrial Avenue road is for passers by and motorists, especially at night, the presence of the Police is not felt there at all. Please we appeal to the Nigeria Police Force to help us provide more security patrol functions to that areas for the safety of lives and property. The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) on Wednesday said South eastern states would not succumb to the demand for land for implementation of Ruga settlement programme. The group said it was ready for face the youth wing of Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) after the expiration of its 30- day ultimatum. In a statement by the Media and Publicity Secretary, Emma Powerful, IPOB insisted on supporting ranching business but in their private lands, not through forcing people to release their ancestral land to anybody. The group advised the federal government and those behind the plan to retrace their steps before it turned uncontrollable and claim more innocent lives. Human rights activist, Femi Falana has warned the Federal Government of Nigeria against its violent approach to handling members of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria who are protesting the continued detention of their leader, Ibraheem El-Zakzaky, despite numerous court orders issued for his release. Falana expressed concerns over the method the Federal Government had adopted in a statement on Tuesday. The legal luminary said the continuous detention of Elzakzaky and killing of peaceful Shiite protesters by security forces could lead the country into another bloody war that it could not afford. “This nation cannot afford another war of insurgency which is being provoked by the contemptuous conduct of the federal government in the handling of the case of the Elzakzakys,” Falana said. Chronicling the arrest and detention of Elzakzaky and his wife Malama Zeinab on December 12, Falana said over 1,000 Shiites were reportedly massacred by soldiers on the orders of the Nigerian Army high command and given mass burial in an unmarked grave in Mango village, Kaduna State over allegations of attempt to assassinate Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Lt.-Gen. Tukur Buratai. Read more here https://thickmatch.com/nigerian-govt-provoking-fresh-insurgency-el-zakzaky-shiites-falana/
