not seeing your occupation in the short and long term occupation list does not mean you can't apply.An applicant gets extra bonus point if his or her occupation is listed in the short and long term occupation.

As far as I know you can apply so long you found your occupation in the general skilled category but won't get bonus point.

This topic was inspired by a slight "derailment" on the Canadian thread.

I am not very knowledgeable on the subject but I think we can exchange ideas and gradually get more information on the subject.

Let me share a few of what I have found out so far.

First, as a skilled worker hopeful, the first thing to do is to check if your skills are in demand. It is noteworthy that there are immediate skilled shortages and long-term skilled shortages.

Second is to check if you are eligible. If the finding is positive, the next thing to do is to submit an Expression of Interest (EOI).

Be ready to cough out about $530 to support the application

I never wanted us to derail this thread with another matter.however,the discussion is still about migration.have you paid the $530 application fee after applying?their's is quite different from canada.you pay the application fee before you submit the application then enter the pool.it seems employers contact the immigration authorities for qualified applicants then send them job offers to boast their point.

How the new Zealand PR works is that every two weeks a draw is held and the priority of those selected is as follows.

1. Candidates with a job offer
2.Candidates with 140 points but without a job offer
3.Candidates with over 100 points but not up to 140

A bulk of those selected are usually those with job offers or candidates that have up to 140 points.

The challenge of getting a job offer is similar to a Canadian or Australian scenario. Difficult but not impossible. I have had at least 6 job offers from New Zealand, but the last communication usually ends with 'Let us know when you are in the country' .
In other words some (if not most) of these employers ain't ready to sponsor your visa till they have a face to face interview with the potential employee.

So you could keep applying via a company's website or through job boards but it's barely up to a 50-50 chance.
But with God all things are possible

I never said people don't have an headway, or can't get jobs immediately after stepping off a plane. There are jobs, and there are JOBS. I only mentioned that success means different things to different people. It's a well known fact that Canada has a small job market (excellent jobs that is) and these particular jobs are highly competitive. I advised on how best one can penetrate the hidden market of these particular jobs. e.g there is a reason why international students in Canada usually become the best set of immigrants to Canada; they understand the system very well, and know how to use it to their advantage. The ''getting rich'' I meant about some particular profession means that these set of professionals don't really do anything extra-ordinary in their chosen career, but still easily earn a well above average income ($100,000 and above) when compared to other career choices, and their skills are always in demand. They also don't even need to build a network before landing a rewarding career. I guess I used a wrong choice of word (my Apology). I gave the reality of what is on ground. I also gave an advice on what new immigrants need to do to integrate successfully into the society. I wish everyone success in their endeavors.

The express entry program of Canada was modelled after Australia's skill select program. Canada is still on a learning curve.

also with New Zealand EOI model.CIC launched EE January 2015 after the FSW 2014 which of course was paper base while Australia's Skill Select Program and New Zealand Expression of Interest has always being done online before Canada decided to adopt the same model through EE program last year.

If you don't have a job offer in new Zealand, it may be difficult to get their PR, as they give priority to people with job offers first or if can score 140 on their point test. It's a long shot but you can try

I think the best is to open a new thread on that but my fear is that I might not be able to contribute much when people start bombarding me with questions and enquiries cos I managed to revolve round and round their site before I was able to understand how it works.currently I am on 120 points.Had it being I have an offer of job or a masters degree that will catapult me to 140.The obstacle as you rightly pointed is to get an offer from an employer in New Zealand which sites like Kiwis,workhere,Aucklandjobs may be helpful.

your ielts report score is quite low.note that each band has a score point e.g 6 is 4 point,6.5 is 5 then 7 is 6 so in your case you have 4+4+5+6=19 the logic there is that you have to score atleast 21 out of the 24 max points aloted for English assessment or score 8777 you will have a good chance
