Nairaland / General / Hate Speech: We’ll Investigate Akiolu – NHRC by Haryohdeji1: 7:40pm On Apr 11, 2015
National Human Rights Commission has
received petition against the Oba of
Lagos, Oba Rilwan Akiolu, the
chairman of the commission, Chidi
Odinkalu, has said. Mr. Odinkalu made
the disclosure when he was reacting to
questions from journalists during an
interactive session towards the 2015
governorship and State House of
Assemblies election at the CLEEN
Foundation office in Lagos. He said
the petition is on Akiolu’s threats
against the Igbos in the state.
His words: ‘’The Commission received a
petition against the Oba of Lagos but
my advice to Lagosians and to
Nigerians in general is that they
should look at the positive outcome of
this election and not dwell on the
negative.
A great thing happened in Lagos State
during the last elections that we are
not talking about. Nobody is talking
about the three House of
Representatives seats won by non
indigents in the state.
To me, this is a big plus for Lagos that
the state has become the centre of
integration and a cosmopolitan state
for Nigerians. We should talk more
about things that integrate us not
things that bring division.’’
Mr. Odinkalu said the Commission is
worried about the rise of militia
groups and the proliferation of small
and light weapons that can result to
election related violence in volatile
states like Rivers, Lagos , Benue,
Akwa- Ibom,Imo , Bauchi and Ekiti.
He added that the Commission has
mapped out strategies with security
agencies and private organisations to
mitigate violence, before, during and
after the election. Mr. Odinkalu
revealed that though the mortality
rates during the 2015 election was 60
compared to 1000 in 2011, he decried
the loss of lives including that of
security operatives during elections.
He added that no Nigerian should die
because of election. He further
assured Nigerians that the Commission
was committed to upholding their
rights and as such the Commission had
begun training and retraining of staff
to become more professional.

Politics / Fani-kayode Predicts Victory For Osun PDP Candidates by Haryohdeji1: 7:25pm On Apr 11, 2015
Director of Media and Publicity of the Peoples
Democratic Party Presidential Campaign Organisation,
Chief Femi Fani-Kayode, has said the candidates of
the party will win some seats in the Osun State House
of Assembly.
Fani-Kayode said this in an interview with journalists
in Ile Ife on Saturday after casting his vote at Unit
03, Ilare ward 10 in Ile Ife.
According to him, the All Progressives Congress will not
sweep the poll the way it did during the 2011 general
elections, saying people of the state had seen the
effect of a legislature exclusively populated by
lawmakers from one political party.
He said, “This election is significant to democracy.
The beauty of democracy is in the legislature that is
made up of members of both the ruling and opposition
parties.
“PDP candidates will win some seats in the Osun State
House of Assembly and this is obvious.”
Fani-Kayode lamented the low turnout of the
electorate during the House of Assembly poll, adding
that they ought not to have shunned the poll because
the legislature was a very important aspect of any
democracy.
He believed the PDP would soon bounce back to take its
lost glory in the political landscape of the country.
The former Minister of Aviation said the loss suffered
by the party during the presidential election on March
28 would not mark the end of the party.
“An end has not come to PDP in Nigeria. The party will
restore its lost glory in due time and Nigerians will
also
appreciate the party. This is not the end of the party;
the party will bounce back,” he stated.

soe:
Truth be told....until JK started his campaign, Lagos didnt have Igbos, Yorubas or Hausas. All she had were Lagosians. The hussles and buzzles...the hard life...the struggle for survival...from the bus conductors..to the bus drivers...passengers...commuters...agbero...bla bla bla...they all spoke a common Lagos language...with the common Lagos sharpness...common Lagos alertness and a common Lagos vision...the vision for a better developed, peaceful and greater opportunities Lagos. This bond had built their drive for prosperity...from Tinubu to Fashola...working hand in hand with a very ethnic rich cabinet...made of pat utomu, joe igbokwe, ben akabueze, and a host of others, lagosians had always been lagosians. But like I said...that was until JK started his campaign.
Just like PDP is known..taking devilish advantage of our differences... Religious differences on a national level, ethnic differences on a local level..and even academic differences on certain occasions...this has been the hallmark of pdp.
Lagosians should look beyond these difference as always...vote for the party that has always offered the best. Feel free to vote Ambode or JK ... But keep tribal diff out of the way...because at the end of the day...everyone shares the same struggle

Politics / From Presidential to Gubernatorial Elections: The Political Divide. by Haryohdeji1: 6:33pm On Apr 07, 2015
Nigeria "a great nation bound in FREEDOM, PEACE and UNITY" or so our national anthem says. But are we really leaving as one nation?
2015 election might appear peaceful but the divide it is causing among the people is not good for the future of our beloved country.
The headlines of d presidential elections was about APC and Buhari trying to Islamize Nigeria. If u ask a christian "why Jonathan and nt Buhari?" U will hear response like;
(1)Buhari is a wicked man
(2)He was the one that brought the sharia law
(3)He is Hausa (this answer is popular to the southeastern people) etc.
I know a lot of christians who says Jonathan's Admin is worst we have had but they still prefer him to Buhari. How about d Lagos gubernitoral elections which is turning out to be a tribal affair.
All this is not gud for democrazy and the devolopment of Nigeria. When we accuse one another about being Igbo, Hausa or Yoruba(ethnicity) or being a muslim or christian(religion), lets not forget dat we have frnds, neighbours, classmate etc who have in one way or the other made a positive impact in our lives and no matter which part we originated, we are all Nigerians.
Do not let these politicians nor election to get in the way we relate to the lovely people who have played a part in how our life has been and who will still be around us after the elections. These are people that will come down to shake hands with us now, sweet talk us and then use escort after we have voted them in.
Fellow Nigerians lets vote for who we think can make our country better and not based on religious belief nor ethnicity. #VotenotFight

GOD BLESS NIGERIA.

Lemon12:
Oba of Lagos, Rilwan Akiolu, has read the riot act to Igbo leaders and monarchs in Lagos State, warning that he will make life unbearable for them if they sabotage efforts being made to ensure that the governorship candidate of All Progressives Congress (APC) Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode, emerges as the next governor of the state.

The monarch, who summoned all the Eze-Ndigbo in the state to his palace, said the support of their kensmen for the opposition party in the state could frustrate current efforts being made in all quarters to ensure that Lagos was no longer in opposition with the Federal Government.

He said: “On Saturday, if anyone of you goes against Ambode, who I picked, that is your end. If it does not happen within seven days, just know that I am a bastard and it is not my father who gave birth to me.

“By the grace of God, I am the owner of Lagos for the time being. This is an undivided chair. The palace belongs to the dead and those coming in the future. On Saturday, if anyone of you, I swear in the name of God, goes against my wish that Ambode will be the next governor of Lagos State, the person is going to die inside this water.

“For the Igbo and others in Lagos, they should go where the Oba of Lagos heads to. When they were coming to the state, they did not come with all their houses. But now, they have properties in the state. So they must do my bidding. And that is the bidding of the ancestors of Lagos and God.

“I am not ready to beg you. Nobody knew how I picked Ambode. Jimi is my blood relation and I told him that he could never be governor in Lagos for now. The future belongs to God. I am not begging anybody, but what you people cannot do in Onitsha, Aba or anywhere you cannot do it here.”

Sports / Arsenal Take One Direction Musician Zayn Malik On Trial by Haryohdeji1: 10:49am On Apr 01, 2015
Arsene Wenger has finally found his much-needed
defensive midfielder as the 22-year-old prepares to
bring the financial might of his huge worldwide
support to the Gunners
1 Apr 2015 07:15:12
EXCLUSIVE
By Rollo Pafi
Arsenal have taken former
One Direction superstar Zayn
Malik on trial just days
after his sensational departure from the band, Goal
can reveal.
The 22-year-old broke hearts around the globe on
March 25 when he confirmed his exit from the group,
with whom he had enjoyed seismic success.
And, sensing an opportunity to cash in on the lucrative
potential of Malik's legions of devoted fans, the
Gunners are ready to sign him up, subject to
emergency dispensation from the Football Association.
"Charging a measly £97 for one matchday ticket just
isn't enough to compete with the oil-flushed coffers of
Chelsea and Manchester City," Arsenal's Director of
Alternative Strategy, Alf Lopior, told Goal.
"What Zayn brings to the table, even more than his
boyish good looks and upbeat modern pop sound, is a
frankly overwhelming number of diehard supporters
who might not normally intersect with our traditional
fanbase.
"As soon as we get fourth place wrapped up, he'll be
playing 90 minutes every week and the shirts will be
selling faster than the twice-platinum 2013 album
'Midnight Memories'. Man, that one was a toe-tapper.
"Besides, the fans have been asking for a new
defensive midfielder for ages. We're excited to finally
shut them up."
Malik's representatives hope that a sudden switch to
professional football may placate broken-hearted
Directioners who were hurt by the release of a new song
featuring the Bradford-born heart-throb - 'I Won't
Mind', a collaboration with producer Naughty Boy -
just days after professing his desire to become "a
normal 22-year-old" by leaving the band.
Arsenal executives are already in talks with League
One side Doncaster Rovers over the arrangement of a
summer friendly, to be branded the 'Best Match Ever',
in which Malik faces off against his former band-
mate, Louis Tomlinson, who maintains a close
relationship with his beloved hometown club.

Sports / San Marino National Team Ends 61 Game Losing Streak by Haryohdeji1: 10:49am On Nov 16, 2014
The minnows picked up a point in European
Championship qualifying for the first time ever and
ended a disastrous run of defeats that dates back to
2004
San Marino held Estonia to a 0-0
draw on Saturday night to secure
an historic result that saw them
end an astonishing 61-match
losing streak.
The microstate has a population
of just over 30,000 and prior to the point against Estonia,
which was their first-ever in European Championship
qualifying and sparked wild celebrations at full-time, they had
scored just one goal in their last 15 matches and conceded 72
times.
San Marino beat Liechtenstein 1-0 in a 2004 friendly and have
drawn against Turkey and Latvia in World Cup qualifying, but
have lost every other international game in their history.
Thirty-eight-year-old captain Andy Selva, who was playing in
his 67th international, was ecstatic after the match.
"I remember the win in Liechtenstein in 2004 but this has a
different meaning," Selva said.
"I have been waiting for a result like this for 11 years. We are
upset about some opportunities we didn't take over that time.
"We searched for this result for years and now we have found
it.
"We want to dedicate this result to Federico Crescentini, a
former international who died some years ago."
Coach Pierangelo Manzaroli was earning one of his 38 caps
on the pitch the last time San Marino earned a competitive
point - in a 1-1 draw away to Latvia in World Cup qualifying in
2001 - and he said the nation worked hard to get the result.
"In recent months our workload has increased and the work
has paid off," Manzaroli said.
"This result is a reward for the players and it will be an
incentive to gain other good results sooner than in 12 years'
time."
On the wrong side of history, Estonia coach Magnus Pehrsson
refused to accept San Marino were worthy of their point -
claiming his side helped them by making too many errors.
"We made a lot of technical mistakes during the game,"
Pehrsson lamented.
"I think there are three main reasons for this result: first the
players didn't recover well from the match against Norway
three days ago. Moreover, we haven't been able to develop the
ideas and tactical opportunities we worked on ahead of this
game.
"I blame myself for this and take full responsibility. Finally we
seemed too stressed about this game and we didn't perform as
expected.
"San Marino played the game we expected from them: deep
defence and counterattacks.
"We have made a lot of history in recent days by winning in
Norway and now helping San Marino gain a point.

Still cant get your point. However, let me tell you a little about the Prima Facie- The plaintiff (NDLEA) must produce affirmative evidence showing that the accused (Baba Suwe) was in possession of the said drugs. Beyond reasonable doubt the NDLEA has failed to produce any evidence to this effect hence the reason the court directed the NDLEA to pay compensatory damages to Baba Suwe.

In conclusion; Baba Suwe was acquitted of all charges leveled against him by the NDLEA and has been proved by the courts which is a legal means for checks and balances for such cases in question. NDLEA should pay up as their actions recently is a grand design to hinder the court’s administration of justice.

Sports / Keshi To Oliseh: You Were Nobody When You Started by Haryohdeji1: 3:27am On Jul 08, 2013
The Super Eagles Coach, Stephen Keshi, has taken a swipe at former teammate, now football analyst and coach, Sunday Oliseh, for criticising his selection.

Oliseh, though commended the Super Eagles and Keshi led technical crew for their Confederation Cup performances, criticised Keshi for going to the competition with eight home-based players; arguing that Nigeria's best players were in Europe and players only remained in the Nigerian league because they were yet to get European clubs to sign them.

Keshi, in a scathing response to Oliseh, told journalists that Oliseh was a nobody when he made his debut too.

"It is a shame that Sunday Oliseh could say a thing like that. He was a nobody when he came to the national team. He started from home too," Keshi said.

"When he came to the national team, I took him as a younger brother. I later (as an assistant coach Ahmodu Shuaibu) made him captain and he became a super star. Who knows what these boys could become in future?"

"Is it bad that we are trying to build a team with the inclusion of home-based players? Please, help me question the integrity of those who are opposed to this and tell them what it's right," Keshi fired.

Nigeria crashed out of the FIFA Confederation Cup in Brazil at the group stage after losing to Uruguay and Spain, days after their only victory against That.
