nemesis8u: Seriously ?
Let me tell u in ancient times when almost all of the world was busy eating lices off their heads, Indians single handedly contributed to science and technology which later became the basis of modern science and technology.
“We owe a lot to the ancient Indians, teaching us how to count. Without which most modern scientific discoveries would have been impossible.” – Albert Einstein.
1. India invented "zero" without which modern mathematics and science would not have developed.
2. India invented "decimal system" now correctly know as Hindu numerical system. It was developed in the Indian subcontinent between the 1st and 6th centuries CE.
This notation system was adopted by the Arabs who called it the hind numerals. Centuries later, this notation system was adopted by the western world who called them the Arabic numerals as it reached them through the Arab traders.
The Europeans had incorrectly attributed the invention to arabs which was later rectified.
The modern numerical system is now known as Hindu numerical system.
3.decimal mark. The practice of using a decimal mark is derived from the decimal system used in Indian mathematics.
4.Law of signs in multiplication. The Indians used negative numbers as subtrahend, but were the first to establish the "law of signs" with regards to the multiplication of positive and negative numbers.
Indian mathematicians were aware of negative numbers by the 7th century, and their role in mathematical problems of debt was understood. Mostly consistent and correct rules for working with negative numbers were formulated, and the diffusion of these rules led the Arab intermediaries to pass it on to Europe. for example (+)×(-)=(-),(-)×(-)=(+) etc.
5. Sign convention: Symbols, signs and mathematical notation were employed in an early form in India by the 6th century when the mathematician-astronomer Aryabhata recommended the use of letters to represent unknown quantities.
6.Modern elementary arithmetic: Modum indorum or the method of the Indians for arithmetic operations was popularized by al-khwarizmi and al-kindi by means of their respective works such as in Al-Khwarizmi's On the Calculation with Hindu Numerals (ca. 825), On the Use of the Indian Numerals (ca. 830)as early as the 8th and 9th centuries.
They, amongst other works, contributed to the diffusion of the Indian system of arithmetic in the Middle-East and the West.
The significance of the development of the positional number system is described by the French mathematician Pierre Simon Laplace (1749–1827) who wrote:
"It is India that gave us the ingenuous method of expressing all numbers by the means of ten symbols, each symbol receiving a value of position, as well as an absolute value; a profound and important idea which appears so simple to us now that we ignore its true merit, but its very simplicity, the great ease which it has lent to all computations, puts our arithmetic in the first rank of useful inventions, and we shall appreciate the grandeur of this achievement when we remember that it escaped the genius of Archimedes and Apollonius, two of the greatest minds produced by antiquity."
7.Formal systems: Panini is credited with the creation of the first Formal System in the world.
8.Trigonometric functions. The trigonometric functions sine and versine originated in Indian astronomy, adapted from the full-chord Greek versions. They were described in detail by Aryabhata in the late 5th century, but were likely developed earlier in the Siddhantas, astronomical treatises of the 3rd or 4th century. Later, the 6th-century astronomer Varahamihira discovered a few basic trigonometric formulas and identities, such as sin^2(x) + cos^2(x) =1.
9.Fibbonacci Numbers. The Fibonacci numbers and their sequence first appear in Indian mathematics as mātrāmeru, mentioned by Pingala in connection with the Sanskrit tradition of prosody.
Later on, the methods for the formation of these numbers were given by mathematicians Virahanka, Gopala and Hemacandra , much before the Italian mathematician Fibonacci introduced the fascinating sequence to Western European mathematics.
10.Binary Numbers. Binary numbers is the basic language in which computer programs are written. Binary basically refers to a set of two numbers, 1 and 0, the combinations of which are called bits and bytes. The binary number system was first described by the Vedic scholar Pingala, in his book which is the earliest known Sanskrit treatise on prosody.
11. Chakravala method of Algorithms . algorithm to solve indeterminate quadratic equations, including the Pell’s equation. This method for obtaining integer solutions was developed by Brahmagupta, one of the well known mathematicians of the 7th century CE. Another mathematician, Jayadeva later generalized this method for a wider range of equations, which was further refined by Bhaskara II in his Bijaganita treatise.
12. Solutions of quadratic equations In the seventh century, the first written evidence of the rules for working with zero were formalised in the Brahmasputha Siddhanta. In his seminal text, the astronomer Brahmagupta introduced rules for solving quadratic equations (so beloved of secondary school mathematics students) and for computing square roots.
13. Basis for calculus. Indian mathematician Bhaskara had already discovered many of Leibniz’s ideas over 500 years earlier. Bhaskara, also made major contributions to algebra, arithmetic, geometry and trigonometry. He provided many results, for example on the solutions of certain “Diophantine” equations, that would not be rediscovered in Europe for centuries.
14.Value of PI . The value of pi was first calculated by Budhayana, & he explained the concept of what is now known as the Pythagorean Theorem. British scholars have last year (1999) officially published that Budhayan's works date back to the 6th Century, which is long before the European mathematicians .
15.Pythagoras theorem. The famous Pythagoras theorem is explained several centuries before in the shulva sutras of the Vedas. It is believed that the much travelled Pythagoras was a student at the takshashila university in undivided india and he carried with him the knowledge of mathematics to the western world.
16. The Hindu cosmological time cycles explained in the Surya Siddhanta, give the average length of the sidereal year (the length of the Earth’s revolution around the Sun) as 365.2563627 days, which is only 1.4 seconds longer than the modern value of 365.2563627 days. This remains the most accurate estimate for the length of the sidereal year anywhere in the world for over a thousand years.
17. Ancient Indians in 5th century BC calculated the age of earth to1,972,944,456 years which is close to 2 billion years and age of universe to 155,521,972,944,456 years ie close to 155,522 billion years.
According to modern science age of earth is 4.5 billion years and age of universe is 13.8 billion years ie of the observable universe.
All these calculations with huge numbers were done at a time when the rest of the world could barely count to 10!!! possibly not even that.
The largest number used in 5th century BC in India was a staggering 10 to the power 400000000000000000 scale and the smallest to 1/1,000,0000 of a second.
Modern mathematics till date has yet to touch this scale.
Most of Arab , Chinese , European mathematics is based directly or indirectly on the work done by indian mathematicians.
And what all I posted is just a drop in the ocean that indians contributed that too only in mathematics, not to say on other contributions in science , medicine , surgery , cosmology , metallurgy , etc etc .
This is the pedigree which the Indians ride on and why indians r good in mathematics and science and will always be. You are a shameless child of hate.. The Indians learnt zero and decimal from the Arabs who are the original inventors.
Most Christians have deep and illogical hated for the Arabas that they would rather lie and try to change history to any other group of people as long as the Arabs don't take the credit for the early discoveries of science. |

Saraki is 100% innocent. All politicians, including Buhari, have political loyalists/thugs. Saraki's political thugs/loyalists committed a crime without his intention or approval. How then can you link the crime to Saraki?
You can't be a politician without loyalists, and ALL loyalists are political thugs. It is the same way NgeneUkwenu and Sarrki defends Buhari, these ones only do theirs on the Internet. Fact is, if you love any politician more than humanity and commonsense, then you're a political thug (it doesn't begin with carrying ammunitions). You are very correct. All politicians in Nigeria have thugs loyal the them including Buhari.. What about Tinubu's thugs and other thugs loyal to Ameachi, Ganduje, Kwankwaso, El-Rufai, etc.. Why have they not accussed all those people of armed robbery too. |
