In the oil companies, Degree holders earn several times more than diploma guys.

I was a graduate intern in ExxonMobil from 2012 to 2013. The career path for diploma holders is completely different from the degree guys. The diploma guys are mostly contract workers who's appointments can easily be terminated while a lot of the degree guys are on permanent appointments.

One guy in my office with both HND and degree in mechanical engineering is always very sad and cranky because he entered ExxonMobil with his diploma because he was yet to complete his university degree at the time he was recruited. Now ExxonMobil refused to place him in the category of degree holders. This is because the company has policy of not upgrading HND to degree equivalent.

How many people (HND or not) make millions of dollars per month in Nigeria. The Agbara industrial estate that I know is not very good for the HND guys as quite a lot of them are used more as labourers. Their pay is far less than what degree holders earn.


There is nothing like HND engineer. It is a crime for an HND guy to call himself an engineer, It is called impersonation. He could be arrested and jailed for impersonation

You must be joking man. Can you imagine someone teaching you to swim or drive a vehicle, within four walls of a classroom? It is impossible!! You have to get into the water to learn swimming and you have to be out on the road to learn driving. Some subjects are skill based and practice oriented.

Theoretical knowledge of skill- based subjects needs to be supported by practice. Subjects like teaching and engineering are skill based. In these subjects, practical knowledge is more important than theoretical knowledge. Practical work includes experiments in laboratories, study tours, projects, assignments etc. the advantages of practical work are unmatched. Getting theoretical knowledge has no value until students can apply it for practical purposes.

How do you expect the university degree holders to have any respect for Polytechnic Diploma holders when you actually expect a driver of a car to be more important than the designers of the car.

I believe this one is still a student in the polytechnic and is yet to see how the engineering industry really works.

Good morning gurus in the house. I need some clarifications please,

1) I have a 12number 400AH/2v battery setup and I want to know the size of cable to use as connectors for the batteries. Also, is there a way I can attach the cable lugs myself without the use of a crimping tool?

2) I also have 2number 24v solar panels and I would like to know the size of cable to buy for the solar panel to inverter connection.

We are not using the internal controller. We have an installation that uses both and it works fine. They actually work independent of one another. They feed maximum current till they get to absorbtion and then the maintain the voltage based on the setting we program. The hybrids (older versions) are limited to 30 volts and they shut down once the see a voltage in excess of 30. Our batteries equalize at close to 32 V. The external controller does that better for us than the internal one. (We install flooded batteries)

I will be carrying out my own personal installation next month. I have 12 number of 2v batteries. I think having an equaliser would be good to ensure the middle batteries also get charged. Do you know if I can get an equaliser that can equalise 12 number 2volt batteries as I have never seen one before.
