Don't worry. Your own generation didn't meet history in school, so I understand. I was taught full Nigerian history starting from when I was in primary school and through secondary school. So, yes. I was taught how the civil war began, Nigeria's political parties in the 50s and 60s, Independence, various ethnic groups in Nigeria, their geographical locations, their culture and customs. These were facts we had to cram even in primary school as well as secondary school.

And yes, education was qualitative then.

And you were taught about how Igbos caused the downfall of Nigeria in your primary and secondary school? Is that?

Every other thing you've mentioned is normal history.
But were you taught that it was the igbos that caused Nigeria's political mess? I'll call that selective teaching to malign the igbos.

I'm glad to see that you have a high opinion of yourselves. Still doesn't change the facts about you guys. I think it was Ahmad Bello who talked extensively about your bragging attitude and expansionist tendencies. When I first heard his comments which I downloaded from YouTube, I felt disgusted that a supposed Nigerian leader could talk that way...then I joined Nairaland and my eyes were opened.

History tells us that the intention of the coup was to kill those in power and install in power Awolowo, who was in prison.

Perhaps no one talks about this because it is not a fact isn't it?

If you really want to be sincere to yourself, you'll realise he did it not because of any Igbo agenda because he had no business about things related to Igbo.

Please kindly read up his interviews after the coup.
He even said that Ironsi should've been killed but he wasn't.
The analysis shows that those in Lagos hesitated on their job and if Nzeogwu was in Lagos, he'd have executed perfectly.

He wasn't even happy that Ironsi was taking power. In his interview, he said he remains his boss but from his countenance, it showed discomfort. That's not clearly what he wanted.

There's a saying, those who do not know history are bound to repeat it.

There's a reason why schools teach history.

Besides, I think Nigerians are getting tired of the persecution complex of the average Igbo who thinks he and his forebears are saints and martyrs in this project called Nigeria. It is only good to once in a while revisit and remind ourselves of the facts. That's all.

Just so you know, while I am a lover of history, I only began to research more after getting to college because the Yoruba folks/historians around me talked about it from time to time. I mean, I was in Awo Hall in Ife, and there's no time you won't hear people talk about what Awo did or didn't do.

The question is, were you taught in school about how Nzeogwu killed Ahmadu Bello or how Ifeajuna killed Tafawa Balewa and dumped his body on the road side? I think the answer is no.

Unless you had a better standard of education while growing up, I only recall hearing about the fact that "there was a military coup and the specific dates"... and it ended there.

I don't know where you live or grew up but I don't live in an environment where the average Igbo thinks he's a Saint or is being persecuted.
By the way, I am average Igbo.

Emmanuel Ifeajuna ran to Ghana, but he was brought back and put in prison.

My question to the OP is, if it is true, and is a fact, that yes, Igbos were the cause of all of these, and if he acknowledged that it is a sensitive issue, of what use was the post for?

He says igbos should pick a point and counter....
So that what exactly will happen?

He says to understand the cause of a problem, the genesis should be looked into...
While I don't disagree, is he saying that the ability to move forward is non-existent because we are Africans?

The white man did not choose Azikiwe to be President. The North had majority in the house while the south could have formed a majority only if they combined.

Awolowo was ready to give Azikiwe the post of Prime minister if they aligned their regions to get the majority and beat the north. But guess who betrayed the south and settled for ceremonial presidency status? Azikiwe.

None of them coup plotters that killed Tafawa Balewa and co. walked free after what they did, but history tells us that Theophlius Danjuma and co., who orchestrated the killing of Fajuiyi and Ironsi was never questioned. It makes no sense.
T. Danjuma went on to become one of the richest men on Nigeria. He was even Obasanjo's senior in the army.
He's got blood on his hands. Whether he likes it or not.

Like I said earlier, there's a need to move forward.
Someone up there said, should we continue blaming Adam for our woes; should we continue blaming Lord Lugard for putting us in this way? The answer is no.

In the appointments of leaders of different parastatals, there's never been anywhere that mentioned that the positions were favoured for the igbos, rather it was based on merit. Aguiyi Ironsi was the most senior in the military (rank wise) and thus should've been naturally the GOC. I'm also surprised not to see the name of Adekunle Fajuiyi amongst the list of military personnels. He was a Lt. Col. as at the time he and Ironsi were killed.

After the first coup, the plotters were detained. I do not understand how the author says that they were treated as heroes while in prison. If Adaka Boro was also put in prison and not killed because of treason, I do not understand how Ironsi would've killed the coup plotters. The dots dont connect.
