poor DBR.

you really tried o. great verse and all. wasn't as good as the first, though. you started forcing the wordplays again. and the timeframe didn't help either.

Ibime takes this one, imo, easily.

'I stitch lines thats cocky and brash/ and material thats tailor-made to chop him in half/
but he still got room to grow. . . so Ima 'cut him some slacks'!!/'

My gun is a gay/ It 'ejaculates noisily'. . when he gets shot in the @ss/
. . cos my 'magnum cum laude'. . .like Im 'top of the class'!!/

*ugh*

Bamsyle.:

@Ibime

Agreed . . . and that's why I scored you higher than DBR for rhyme structure . . . since it's strictly a text rap . . . but I'm getting the feeling that some dudes think a verse can't be properly rhymed on audio just cos it doesn't look good on paper . . . that's where I beg to differ . . . one doesn't even need to tongue-twist to articulate 'clumsy-looking' or several lines in quick succession - and that's where rappers like Tonedeff or Eminem (when vexed) ace so many other rappers.
corrected.

tonedeff knows what it do. killer flow. apparently his album is dropping soon.

I love flawless multis more than the rest of you. So naturally, I fxcks with every Ibime verse.

But DBR's wordplay is too sick. I thought most of it was forced in the earlier verses against Ibime in the flow for rank thread. but come on. . .

'wanna see how i eat Beef send your chic i phuck and knife her!/'

is he going to ra-pe and stab her, or is he going to 'eat' her like a gentleman? fxcking sick.

'turn u to a Sprinting Balding Rasta . .u Run out of Lucks!' i'm guessing he means 'locks', like dreadlocks. didn't get it at first.
run out of luck, run out of locks. it still works. lol

my vote goes to DBR. waiting for round two tho.

but still doesn't change the fact that B.O.B does suck!! He tricked us with that nothing on u single, had us thinking he was good. fooled me. Haven't listened to the CD since May/June and its somewhere chilln in the house, or in my car (IDK, shows u how much i care for it).

Romance / Re: I Want Her But She Calls Me 'Uncle' by hax: 8:41pm On Oct 19, 2010
nothing is wrong with that. as 4llerbuntu said, a 20 year old girl is old enough to make decisions on her own. and it doesn't make sense to be looking for 32 year old single ladies. the 20 year olds chase away young guys because they want working class guys, now they're complaining that you're too old. don't mind them. do your thing.

treat her like you would treat any of your agemates. she might appreciate you treating her like a matured woman. which she is anyway. she's old enough. don't mind the haters. haters gon hate.

but though, if you knew you would have feelings for her you'd have told her to stop calling you 'uncle' a long time ago. some nigerians like respect too much. now it's come back to bite you in the ass. good for you. lol

eldee:

I praised Jay-Z's attempt to force hiphop to grow up . . . your point is??
was just hatin'. lol
but that was my point.  Jay-Z tried to make his album sound 'grown up'. looks like he succeeded. if anyone wants to change, why not? eminem stopped rapping about killing mariah, he 'grew up', no one complained. they're changing their subject matters gradually. maybe others will follow. (not that i like it though)

And everything Weezy or Nikki say now is soft compared to what they rappers used to do in the past.
Mainstream hiphop has gone down the drain?? Oh yeah, Snoop Dogg is more mature than Drake and yeah Lil Kim is an angel compared to Nikki.
the important thing is in their prime they made better music. but that's beside the point.
there were cats like guru and jeru the damaja and scarface and nas and mos def and talib kweli and common sense in the mainstream trying to make sense and sound matured. compare 20 year old nas in '94 and 18 year old havoc in '95 in 'the infamous' to 20 year old B.o.B and tyga.
sh-it is real son, word is bond. lol

At the end of the day it's simple . . . will I be listening to hiphop at 50?? Nope.
I'd prolly still be a fan of U2 and The Script though, definitely dropping Arsenal at 30, I don't wanna die of HBP.
lol

P.S The four Drake works I have don't have anything about hoes, dunno what one you're listening to.
I just want the money, money and the cars, cars and the clothes, the HOES, i suppose. . .
and by hoes, i also mean proposals to nicki minaj, songs about his ex's who are 5'3 in height, the best he's ever had, etc. nahmean?

You don't listen to Drake. . . he's more of a grown up Usher Raymond that raps.
His main themes are his struggle towards success and how it conflicts with his old life, his past relationships and just his emotions.
That, in my opinion may be kinda childish . . . but more mature than most of the rappers you see around old and new.
how do you sound 'matured' then? that's exactly how to sound matured, if done correctly. maybe drake isn't doing it correctly.

He even left most of the money talk at Comeback season.
really?

'money just changed everything, i wonder how life without it would go'

You know, that's the very first line on his very first album.  undecided

brah!!!! it's cool you rep the realness.  .  . i don't know about your previous post. though i can see it now but.  .   . to me, discovering artists who make my kind of music is even an art to me. I dig just like the way Producers dig for samples and I love doing it.

I've got the two Shad's albums (The Old Prince and TSOL) and since I discovered both Rose garden has been my favourite. It's cool you listen to real hiphop too.  .   . and i'ld usually watch out for your reccomendations. .  .
I like 'Voice of an angel', 'Get up', 'Yaa I get it', 'I don't like to', and 'Lucky 1's'.
Shad is too sick.
Nah, he has 3. 'The Old Prince' wasn't his debut. He had one before that. it's 'When This Is Over'. Dropped in 2005.
Haven't heard it yet though.

sneak peek. the next one's Blu. grin

Mehn!!! there's this kinda argument in some quaters that there's nothing like "real hiphop".  .  . their defence is Hiphop is Hiphop. However, what most people call hiphop today is not the "real" hiphop.  .   .  it's better to add that adjective "real"  to lay emphasis.

BUt the question what is real hiphop? bruva. . . I can't explain like that. All I know is when I see real hiphop, I know it.  .  . maybe that's not too clear, that's what I can do for now.  .  .
not in the mood to start thinking. but for a start, 'real hip hop' involves more rapping than singing.

GET UP

Before I take a mic
Take a break beat or a break to write
Break me down lord please and shape my life
We need leaders
These elitists got nothing to teach us
By they strength, our children need to see jesus in their weakness
And keep seekin where
Free speech is rare
And realness gets kept less frequent than these secrets
Share a couple stories
Like a townhome or brownstone
Over loud phones about my hang ups and dial tones
Swim in heaven and at worst you get drowned toe’d down
To the place where the clouds roam
So we get up
All my ppl feeling bored and strange
If you don’t feel at home in this conformist state
Don’t ignore the pain
That’s the lord that’s sayin
To you stand up King you were born to reign
That’s the war that’s waged
And the important thang
Aint what youd die for
Its what you live for today

Get up even if they knock us down
They cant cant stop us
Smile right back at em laugh and then get up
Actions speak louder than a thousands talkers
So make em blast that in their walkmans (x2)

Its hard to stand in a nation where the masses sit
Idle and passionless
Politics is polls
In the papers all the facts are skipped
Cant ascertain so the scholars place an asterix
And stories on the stars to dumb down
And distract us with
We cant help but feel detached from this
Capitalist confusin communion of coportate sponsors and advocates
Where every actor is an activist
But a movie cast wont fix these broken homes full of fractured kids
Aren’t broken bones you can wrap up quick
Folks trying to master this game that I call money for masochists
Where if you wanna make a cut
Gotta match their risk
Dig in your pockets, not for cash
But to slash your wrists
And fashion’s just a game of who can follow fads fastest wish
Some kind of miraculous world change can happen quick
But these problems don’t take seconds to solve
And getting mad aint the same thing as getting involved
We need to get up

(chorus x2)

Get a mic
Get skill
Get ice
Get bills
Get the life
That you always wanted and then get killed
Get slain
Cuz the rappers that do
Get fame
Its insane
All they talk about is who should get blamed
Young brothers get steel
Before they get aim
And they wanna get it pulled
Before they get trained
Cuz they wanna get respect
Get cheques
Get dames
Things we all wanna get
But end up getting drained trying to get em
We get stressed and we get strained
We don’t all get the ghetto
But we all get pain
Before I get to the refrain
I hope you get what im sayin
Its messed, but we just might get some change if we get up

were you not the one praising jay-z's 'new direction' on BP3? people aren't rapping about what they used to. it's now even worse. drake sings about his hoes, weezy about his money AND hoes, minaj about her a-ss and pu-ssy,  etc etc
you get the point. mainstream hip hop has gone down the drain lol

@ brownteeth- i don't listen to that 90% of hip hop then. there's A LOT of dope rappers in that 10%. i'm cool with that. grin

but imo, the good outweighs the bad.
Music/Radio / Re: Will You Still Listen To Hiphop At 50 Years Of Age? by hax: 1:25am On Oct 17, 2010
Jay-Z at over 40 is getting kids to wear 'all black everything' and no one looks at him as a 'misfit'. And any adult who has kids will DEFINITELY watch alot of Cartoon Network. How else do you deal with restless kids? Kids who don't watch cartoons become thugs. lol

And rap isn't about the things you just pointed out. There are rappers like Common, Nas, Talib Kweli and Mos Def that rap about topics grown men can relate to. Like love, having kids, street poetry and general introspection. Don't generalise hip hop like that. I think we're even moving away from the gangsta rap era. It's frowned upon these days, and is generally unprofitable lol.

Nope. Completely unrelated. Cool Kids is a rap duo from the west-midwest, I think. Chuck Inglish and Mikey Rocks. They sound like Pac Div. Not as lyrical though. *pacdivstan*

Anyways, back on topic.

I’m beamin’

[Asher Roth]
My aura takes the form of the aurora borealis
Or a floral pattern, more or less a forest to your salad
The neural path I’ve traveled has immediate reaction
Can’t you see that I am beaming? I’ll be leaving in a second
Sipping magic from a chalice, detached from the distractions
At last, I can relax, looking past all of the action
A fraction or a fragment of me actually is present
The rest of me is heavenly, the seventh house’s zenith
Yes, the fence intimidates, it’s meant to keep you out (But)
Let your senses resonate and leap it in a bound (‘Cause)
Freedom isn’t found inside a visa or a crown
And even the voice of reason couldn’t speak it out loud (But)
Mortals are immortal when their soul has been imported
To a source that is more sovereign, important to the whole (Whole)
This is the warmest moment of a poet turned heroic
As he slowly comes to focus, go ahead and watch me glow
(yup, bolded it all. asher roth is sick. as usual. apart from on his album though, sadly.)

[Charles Hamilton]
Rey Mysterio flow, stayin’ clear
Of makeup-smeared hatin’ queers, makin’ clear this is spiritual

Though a spirit you owe, church final
Your funeral in an arena, you searchin’ for fire
Or titles, or tidal waves
Tie the game like a shot from outside when it’s 95 to 98
To throw slid into you left-side broke (N-ggas!) (Beam!)
Boa constrictor, chokin’ (N-ggas!), the grown man (Beam!)
Pawns mean, your controllers get broken (N-ggas!) (Beam!)
Anarchy in the Ford, you need to focus (N-ggas!) (Beam!)
Love, I get none, like sayin’ no to n-ggas
Hamiltonian’s loneliness, so I hold my (Beams!) (N-ggas!)
I logged on to see a c-section, a gross display
Sleep never, and Rolaids, deep lessons won’t go away
I keep pressin’ like my phone is afraid
To be a star, so I end it and pound it, see what the code can say

[Lupe Fiasco]
Calling all the good rappers, had to get my crew together
Fire like the fire flower, flyer than the super feather
Superman with two propellers, enter that, ninja rap
You can call it Super Shredder, boss scene, Ross theme

You can call it super better, new to this, Ludacris
Foolishness, Lu been doin’ this since super letters
So I can’t spell and can’t mail it out
If you can’t feel, it’s too full, you can’t peel it out
Showboatin’ at the show, but you can’t sell it out
I’m on the sea shepherd deck, helpin’ the whales out
All my egos in the mirror, checkin’ themselves out
Tweeters in the trunk, helpin’ the twelves out
The speakers on bump, the rappers on acne
This track is what would happen if the rastas meet the mathletes
Yes, sir, then the Chess Club got dressed up
And went and took all the bitches of the athletes

[Mikey Rocks]
Big up to what’s been up, n-gga
Pin-ups from when we clicked up and posed for these pictures, good
And the kids connected up, and they clicked snap
Hollerin’, “Yeah, we weighed on the iPhone scale app!”
Without fail, the best to ever do it just will
Haven’t done it all, but we got copy wheelwell, though
But it ain’t no sweat, I got a whole outfit
And a new fitted cap that I ain’t wore out yet
(Check, check, check) And I’m beamin’
Yeah, and I seen it, like a twenty-seven inch Zenith
Projected widescreen, now they got it 3D
Now we NBA’d up from development leagues

[Chuck English]
Ay, yo, they pale in comparison to stories we tell
Man, he see me on the hovercraft and he got a sail
Bubble-ass Brenda, stacked up in the window
Of whatever ‘Lac truck pick her up, retail
N-gga, what? It just hit me like a Mack truck semi
On my last trip to Sydney in the Sheraton lobby
Grab my coattails and get a grip (Grab ‘em)
You want the truth? Well, the truth is
This is it, pointin’ out the differences
This is exquisite sh-t, riveting, isn’t it?
Lizard king loafers on swole when I’m kickin’ it
Joe, the live n-gga, real rig-a-marole
You a handshake away, and them fingers is cold    (both of them didn't try lol)

[Blu]
Touch art, lush heart, brush my niggas’ shoulder off
Now that blessed soldier know that protocol, show me y’all’s
Maybe not, play me not, say we not remote at all
Roger that, scholars back, solid black, go God
Gobble Gats, go hard, condom snapped, so raw
(DAMN! Crazy flow.)
Pompous asshole, flash flow, turn your soul on
So gone, strode strong through your lawn ’til the dawn
Tell you mom, name another real as John, kill a song
‘Cause when you feel it, and it make yo’ ass chill and calm
[size=21pt]Payin’ more than just attention for that glass I’m sippin’ on[/size]
Dog, I would travel half the globe to kiss a broad
Kiddin’, ma? Scratch backs, bringin’ out them kitten paws
And pull a bottle out that cabinet while that kitchen’s warm
Back to attendin’ business, do not lay them digits wrong
Dippin’ all gangsta, but a renegade, no Crip or John
This is Blu, sh-t is true, pyramid, period
(Blu is so sick. Y'all need to hear more from him. Introspective, crazy flow, can be gangsta when he wants to be, XXL freshman of 09, dropped a classic ALBUM in '07, 2 hot verses on Roots' album this year, etc. I'm probably just wasting my time though lol)

[Diggy Simmons]
I know what you’re thinkin’, thinkin’ I do not belong
Tell me Diggy ain’t beamin’, ‘course I should be on this song
Yeah, I’m a child of God, my reflection is on
[size=21pt]Yeah, I’m only 15 and, but my sixteens is strong[/size]
Didn’t want me to shine, now we sharin’ the stage
Twice as good as you rhyme, only half of your age
So the remains, and it ain’t even how
[size=21pt]That Verizon flow, are you hearin’ me now?[/size]
Word to Wasalu, they was sayin’ my future was dark
I had the fame, but my name was missin’ the art
[size=21pt]So I’m drawin’ the line, and I’m crossin’ the Ts
And I’m dottin’ my I’s, barely catchin’ my Z’s
[/size]But I’ll be good by the mornin’, on my global grind like JoJo
They be lookin’ at what I’m puttin’ on and, so fly, so fresh at the Soho
Most niggas don’t know though, they can catch me on the first flight
Been workin’ on a new mixtape, I got a call from Lupe
But I did it for the love, no check, mate
(I want to meet his ghostwriter. n-igga's 15!!)

When people said I couldn’t, I wouldn’t, I made ‘em believers
I come from the school of hard knocks and overachievers
From the City of Brotherly Love, they sayin’ we need you
To be the voice of the people and go against all this evil
Some people hate it, but I made it, so I’m never concerned
About what they be talkin’ about, I’ve lived and I’ve learned
With my dream and my drive, I determined my turn
In this business, because I’m in control, meetin’ adjourned
I said, “It’s Third Degree, y’all heard of we?
I’m Dosage, have you heard of me?”
I come from the bottom, so the top where I deserve to be
Where people say it doesn’t matter to be much
I was on the Steppin’ Lasers tour, and man, I shooked it up
That was random, but so what? Life is a war, better load up
If you against me, come correct, I am the bomb, watch me blow up (Boom!)
Right before your eyes, forget about the dividends
I just want to say I remember when (Was nice)

[B.o.B]
Well, it’s B to the O, O to the B
You know it’s the flow, you know that it’s me, I flow to this beat
As easy as goin’ to the store and holdin’ receipts
And foldin’ ‘em neat, I’m focused as focused can be
You know I got phobias, please, approach me with peace
Or things could get heated and you’ll get ferociously beat
Speakin’ of ferociously beat, you know that girl ‘Nique?
You know she’s a freak, but anyway, back to what I’m supposed to be
Sayin’ all over this beat, you know that we G’s
You see all the crowns, you know that we kings, you notice the rings
Everywhere we go, we roll with the team, yeah
And you know that we lasers, so you know that we beam
It’s the All City varsity, hard-headed squad
We played y’all spades, y’all handle y’all cards
But we ain’t all odds, we just blaze, man
Y’all playin’ checkers in this game, this is chess, y’all pawns (coming from B.o.B, this is a masterpiece. It's nice, but I'm still a hater.)

Thank you
Feels good wakin’ up
Yeah, back
On my j-o
Guess I gotta go to work
It’s cool

I wipe the cool from my eye
Stationed in Antarctica, coldest nigga alive
Flow is Armageddon, might smite crows from the sky
Before you drive you have to wipe locust-es off your rides
But I’m warmin’ up, oceans is on the rise
I’ll be Ocean with eleven associates on my side
Colder than Chris Martin guitarin’, would you look at all these spies?
But they can’t see me, I took out their eyes
Replaced them with some mes, so all they see is hes
But I will never run, not even if they cry
See, I can never fall, not even down their cheek
But I will always ball, let’s see who the first to blink
And I don’t need no passwords, ’cause I don’t need to cheat
But you can say your last words, then you can rest in peace
I’m the hook after your last verse, I’m also like your beat
But I will turn it down, so you can go to sleep

So you can go to sleep
Yes, you can to sleep
So you can go to sleep
So you can go to sleep

Good night, good night
Good night, good night

Now you can go to sleep
Yes, you can to go to sleep
Now you can go to sleep
Now you can go to sleep

Good night, good night
(Official niggas on they job)
(And you know we gotta ball)
Good night, good night
(Real niggas pop it all)
(Phony niggas not at all)

Insomniac since way back, see, this what I been like
Bacon, eggs, and pancakes, eatin’ it at midnight
Gettin’ up and goin’ hard, I don’t need no Enzyte
Come across as very calm, mental state is Zen-like
Always had a lot of heart, never been the tin type
Never will I drop a dime, never been the ten type
My girlfriend is very fine, yes, she is a ten, right?
Mink is draggin’ on the flo’, fire in my windpipe
You should come and clean up after riots that I incite
Things got off the handle, left behind a landfill
Traffic at a standstill, stadium is fan-filled
Fill this bitch up with fans, you still would blow my candle out
My can-do spirit’s in the house
And it’s possessin’ your possessions, did you hear it by the couch?
Boogieman under your bed, not in your closet, ’cause I’m not a homo
Won’t shut no door, ho, I won’t make a peep, so you can go to sleep

Now you can go to sleep
Yeah, you can go to sleep
Now you can go to sleep
So you can go to sleep

Good night, good night
Good night, good night
(Real niggas up again)
(Phony niggas tuckin’ in)

So you can go to sleep
Yes, you can go to sleep
Now you can go to sleep
Now you can go to sleep

Good night, good night
(Official niggas on they job)
(And you know we gonna ball)
Good night, good night
(Real niggas pop it all)

I wipe the coal from my eye
Then put it in my stove and hope that my dough rise
And that my clothes dry, but I am so high
I’m sitting on the storm, that I got soaked by
Now you can come close, so you can get warm
But you get no pie, but you can sell ‘em for ‘im
So here’s your bowtie, now get ready to fall
‘Cause humans don’t fly, the boy in the balloon
See I didn’t go hide, and I’m comin’ back to flow again
Close down all that opium, but I had to OPN
They said they need a hero, and if so I’m back to dope again
Pull up in that old-school, Flintstone drop on rolling pins
Time is all behind me, this make me feel old again
Grandma’s all around me, I can feel her soul within
Hold my daddy over him, I woke the roosters, woke the hens
Everything’s cashmere, count the sheep that you can go to sleep

So you can go to sleep
Yes, you can go to sleep
Now you can go to sleep (Go to sleep!)
So you can go to sleep

Good night, good night (It’s okay!)
Good night, good night

Then my silence is diamonds
Preach

Man, I feel like
I feel so good
It’s the Great American Rap Album
15!
Hundred!

I do it
All again
All for y’all

I Wish I Was Dead feat. Tonedeff (probably the sickest flow you've heard in a while)
[Kno - Hook]

There's a cloud hanging over me
What's in my head
I can't see
x2

[Tonedeff - V1]

[b]It seems I’m captive in a carnival
The main attraction
People stand in line for hours, stoked
They pay to laugh
and see me sabotage my charted goal to escape this trap
while reading transcripts of my horoscopes
Then it fades to black
Repeat the pattern till my heart of gold
is stained and cracked
Decreased in value
if I pawned it whole
would I make it back?
The things that matter seem so hard to hold, so I’ll face the facts
And leave this planet how I found it
Lone
And embrace the casket
Feel so damaged, that I can hardly cope in a savage world, where the scars reopen at random
If you don’t wanna choke, put a bandage over your parted throat
I’m man that’s on his own and I can’t get over these obstacles
And it adds a sting that the common folks are this adamant to think god’s a hoax
And I’m outta hope
Though I’m strong I don’t wanna live with the strain
No positive notes, no prospect glowing to give me the strength
I simply revisit the day that misery came
And, I wait for the light at the end of the tunnel, until it hits me
That it was a train
[/b] (yeah i bolded the whole verse lol )
[Kno - V2]

I can feel my blood circulate the whole of my body
Cause there’s holes in my body, like a blow from a shotty (ouch)
I’m assuming it probably, cause the hospitals got me
I get up off the gurney and I am certainly wobbly
But it doesn’t concern me that I am fervently nauseous
I’m not overly cautious, I just[b] don’t know what caused it[/b] (sick flow, not as good as tonedeff, but no one is.)
So I’m talking to doctors, asking where is my family
Or who was it that brought me, or who was it that shot me
Cause I’m hurt pretty badly, but my memory’s shoddy
And nobody will help me, so I’m wobbling oddly
To the front of the lobby so maybe someone will spot me
But my face is in pieces maybe they don’t recognize me
Now I’m just realizing, as I open my pocket
That my phone is inside it, so I’m frantically dialing
Trying to call my fiancé, maybe she’s trying to find me
But I hear ringing behind me, and it strikes me as odd
I turn around as she walks up to finish the job *blaow* *blaow* (fiancee offs his light switch)

[Tonedeff - Bridge]
I’m wishing for dead.
The world is a weight around my neck. Oh, oh. oh.
I’m wishing for dead.
If today’s like tomorrow, let this end.

Spread Your Wings feat. Deacon the villain
[Deacon The Villain - V1]

I claim to be a man of faith, I told her from the start
a shame to say she has my heart and still I won't depart
my art, it got me 'tween a rock and a brick wall
and my journey to her's feelin like a game of Pitfall
and all she wanna do is study english, law and history
and I'm a mystery, a life with me's like a gypsy
but I ain't Nipsey, I can't Hussle in the West
cause the South is in my chest, and I don't wanna fly it's nest
Lord, I'm young, gifted and black
thanks for that, but help me sift through the facts, please
with her on my team I'm feelin like a King
findin' comfort in her Heat and we just want a couple rings
but the thing? the throne's in my old Kentucky home and
it need me more than us, I can feel it in our tone
we ain't ready for the leap, maybe one day we'll be grown
and step outside our comfort zone

[Kno - V2]

You the apple of my eye before the seed was planted (apple of eye, seed was planted, pregnancy)
Proceed to vanish before I could even see the damage
Beneath a sea of Zanax
She provide the X, I provide the Y           (male? chromosomes? sick wordplay and multis)
But why did she concede to panic?
The plea that she demanded
To her it seemed so even-handed
I seen no advantage and so I'm screamin damnit
Wish you could see Atlanta
Wish you could see your Nana
Wish you could see that I believed that we should be together
But I did not protect you
Cus I did not correct her
I learned a lesson that I guess I didn't earn your presence
Concern was ever-present
If I could turn back the hands of time I'd return to find her on the 11th
The day she seen the premise
That if she left the clinic premises without your essence
She'd relieve her stresses
See we agreed that it's a woman's preference
But if she loved me she'd have second-guessed it             (didn't like him enough, aborted the kid, eeeya, boo hoo)
And now I keep sayin

I WILL BUMP THIS THREAD.

REPEATEDLY.

Give real hip hop a try.
Music/Radio / Re: Drake Trynna Diss J.Cole? by hax: 12:45am On Oct 15, 2010
eldee:

Hehehe . . . Nas already had songs with Kels, Lauryn Hill and Diddy and you say he didn't have a huge fan base??
At worst they had equal fan strength in numbers, if anything, Jay-Z rode on that beef to where he is today.
Nas had a large fanbase then. Jay's was much larger though. That was Jay of 'Sunshine', 'Big Pimpin' and 'Hard Knock Life'. Nas' biggest hits before that were 'Nas is like' and 'Nastradamus'. lol

You're the one who loves to bring up numbers every chance you get.

I Am,  - 470k 1st week, 2x plat
Nastradamus,  232k 1st week, plat.
----
Vol 2- 5x plat
Vol 3 - 462k 1st week, 3x plat

Men lie, women lie? There you go.

Nas was ahead of Jay-Z in artist status back then, Jay-Z launched a Takeover, you don't Takeover from yourself do you??
Anyway, the whole thing that started this was . . . why did Jay-Z lose even though he had more hurting disses?? Because Nas had more fans where it mattered back then.
Yeah right. Who said Jay 'lost'? Who said he had 'more hurting disses'? lmfao

Hehehe . . . you see where you faltered again?? I already said who was more talented lyrically ages ago.
You're debate-thirsty as usual, even Ibime sees where I'm coming from, there is much more to rap beef than been lyrically gifted, it will be extremely naive to claim otherwise.
You're right. If you're talking about J. Cole and Drake, the difference is clear though. In a rap beef, Drake singing an auto-tune hook would be shooting himself in the foot. J. Cole is actually talented too. This isn't Canibus we're talking about here. J. Cole's a great producer, and if he's not in the mood, he could always get Kanye or No I.D. or maybe even Just Blaze to do a track for him. I'd rather pick them over Cool and Dre or 40 or boi-1da, thank you. J. Cole's got a very good ear for beats. You know that. Expect something like Who Dat with much hotter punchlines.

Listen to yourself speak . . .
Majority of Drake's work goes into the musical part of hiphop and that part he does better than Cole.
That's as obvious as saying pure water is colourless.
Not really.
And if the 'musical part' of rap battling was SO important, Jay-Z would have murked Nas. Since Takeover's beat was much better than Ether's. And BET wouldn't do their cypher with the same beat for 3 years.

Then you shouldn't argue and miss the point in the first place.
Now I said . . . if Drake went into a battle with J.Cole, the fact that he's with Lil Wayne will definitely help.
Swaying bias votes, production, fan appeal, and some of the other things I mentioned. . . now J.Cole is bringing just one thing to the table, 'I'm talented' and these days it's bigger than talent.
Drake will get more spins on radio, he'll present his better, have more fans digging it and many other things that J.Cole will not have with Jay-Z.
Yup. Jigga would sit back and watch his little protege get destroyed by Drake.

Now Ibime made a valid point, if J.Cole dropped a Roc Nation album . . . got fans to demand a pay-per-view battle in New York or sumn, he'll murk Drake, and I do agree with him.
duh.

Now this comes back to how important a player is to the team, in football terms, Jay-Z's Blueprint 3 would be the World Cup Final.
You don't consider benching your star player in the match that decides your future.
Empire State of Mind was going to be Jay and Nas. Alicia Keys was the star player in the end. What he 'considered' and 'almost did' doesn't matter. What he DID do is what's important.
At least he considered giving J. Cole a verse. He knew he couldn't stand Drake rapping in that his one flow for a whole verse. So he stuck him to the hook. Same with Cudi.

The point is not whether it would have been a bad decision or not, the point is does he consider J.Cole a star player?? Not really.
So? He didn't consider Alicia a key player, so just stop bringing this irrelevant stuff up.

Now why did he put him back?? Now I wouldn't know, but it still doesn't change the fact that before final packaging, he'd informed J.Cole that 'dude, you won't be making the team' and then changed his mind which wouldn't have happened if he were a Fabregas.
Football is the easiest thing to understand in this world . . . this is as clear as I can make it.
And let's continue the football metaphor. What's Jay-Z's 'goal'? Is he going to be 'Arsenal' or 'Chelsea'? Is he going to entertain more heads and win no plaque (trophy), or be commercial and appeal to everyone and win a platinum plaque? Money or respect? He's earned the respect, now the money is what's important. Or he wouldn't have told you to buy his old sh-it. More J. Cole verses would have brought him more respect since let's face it, J. Cole would have dropped more hot verses and outshone Jay throughout. Imagine J. Cole bragging on Run this town. Wouldn't get him as many iTunes downloads as a Rihanna hook, now would it?

A Star is Born the peak of the album?? That's a personal opinion not a fact.
Best verse on the album.

FACT. tongue

Dude, when you bring an artist to open for you on a show, I dunno but it just might mean you think the guy's kinda good.
I'm not sure though, because I saw Talib Kweli talk about how he won't have had Ye on his gigs if he wasn't feeling him. undecided undecided
Infact maybe some artists let people they consider wack open for them so that they can appear a lot better. cheesy cheesy
Just because he's feeling Drake doesn't mean he isn't feeling a 1000 other cats.

BTW . . .Maybe it's just me but I never saw Mos Def cosign J.Cole, don't get me wrong . . . this is a question of fact not a question of his talent.
Talib featured Mos Def on a track and featured J.Cole too, and if you know how collabos are done these days, they send beat to each of the rappers and tell them to record on it, even J.Cole said it that he got the beat in an email, same way Mos Def musta gotten it.
Yeah, Mos Def and Talbi Kweli and Hi-Tek would send a beat in an e-mail to 2 random rappers, JERMAINE COLE AND JAY ELECTRONICA. Cudi and B.o.B might have missed it in their inboxes. mchew.

And please don't let your emotions speak for you, sit back, read what I said and digest before you say a word.
You probably know by now that I watch a lot of J.Cole interviews, so can you not try to play the hater card, it makes you sound like a Modestan grin grin grin
You're not a hater. You just seem to love your pop music more. And that's all good. tongue jkjkjk

Come on DBR, Nickel9 was dead and buried, a beatdown alcoholic who had almost disappeared from the scene, and who was ripped by Mistah Fab at AllHipHop awards. Joey gave em all direction and hustle. Crooked has always been hustling with COB, but Royce and Ortizz needed the Slaughtahouse project more than anything. It is now Royce is playing his part by capitalising on his relationship with Eminem to take the group to the next level. Of all of them, only Joey came into this with street buzz, followed by Crooked.
srsly? after dropping 2 arguably classic mixtapes in 2007 and 2008?
we know joey was dropping mood muzik, don't know about joell, meanwhile crooked has just been 'hustling'. . .

why you think they call him the 'apparent head'?

Anyone who followed the weekly freestyles by Crooked I (52 freestyles a year) should know Nickel 9 aint foxing with him.
maybe. but not when it comes to his previous albums and mixtapes though. has he dropped anything better than the bar exam series? i don't know, because i haven't listened to crook's tapes. so i won't say anything. what i do know is royce was probably the best on the slaughterhouse album. end of.

Its good to see some valid HipHop discussion on this forum. Tired of people overanalysing wack rappers like Kanye West, Kid Cudi, BOB and such. When slaughterhouse first dropped, no one paid any attention on here.
you did not just call Kanye West wack AND put him in the same category as CUDI and B.O.B?!!!!

have you heard the 2010 BET cyphers? G.O.O.D music kilt it!

And DBR's right. joey isn't wack. i just prefer the others to him.

and i try to post a new thread about underground rap every once in a while and no one replies. i've tried naw. lol
