HealthMosquitoes Now Carry And Spread HIV <Prank> by hayo(op): 4:25pm On Apr 18, 2006
Before I read in a newspaper that mosquitoes don't carry HIV, I used to be scared, But what if this is the case - How we for do am, considering that everywhere in Naija is a good breeding place for those merciless creatures. Even in VI, Ikoyi, Asokoro, e.t.c as preached by Maintain. What would you have done if Mosquitoes carry da Virus?
EducationRe: Hnd Is Better Than Bsc by hayo(m): 5:24pm On Apr 13, 2006
I think its not a matter of the number of years spent or even the quality of education in our educational system.
Let's face it, the Universities are not what they used to be and Polytechnics are not in a bit better. That's the bitter truth and we also know that 98% of secondary school students would choose to attend Universities rather than Polytechnics, the same way Colleges of Education are not first choice to the latter.
But to call a spade a spade, I believe that I gained more from studying in a University environment than the academics. It's very challenging being in that setting and the kind of people you meet are also important, a level of self-consciousness and belief are also built while you are exposed to a lot other than the normal classroom teaching experience.
That's the reason employers prefer University graduate 'cos they can easily be trained and could adapt faster due to the points I noted earlier. I respect maybe 2 Polytechnics in Nigeria especially Yabatech but most are craps and we know it. Low level of academics, and most times very rass and low-esteemed students. Sorry if I am a bit frank. What you will see in most Universities are under-utilised students who could have done better if they were in schools abroad; but they still show their stuff when they are employeed by good companies. This is not same most times with Polytechnics, it is rare to see very good guys apart from one or two exceptional schools.
Finally, if things continue this way - the best students will continue going to Universities, the next level Polytechnics and finally Colleges of Education!

@ Romeo
I think it will be interesting for you to know that Jay Jay is not as Nigerian as you think. He has stayed abroad more in the last 12 years than at home.
Shebi you are in Spain, use it no one cares!
You will never understand me unless you come to Naija and see how the dudes who use studs look like. Note also that it more common with Rappers, Bikers, NBA players and such in the US, most doctors don't use it and we have not seen an American president using it unless Chis Rock becomes President smiley
Wise up man and use good judgement. I am not being sentimental here, just giving you what obtains around here.
FashionRe: Earrings On Men by hayo(m): 3:39pm On Apr 06, 2006
Lailai, studs ke. Maybe if I was a Yankee, I might have loved it.
Personally, I feel it is a bit funny 'cos most guys who use it often look irresponsible.
I once fantasized about it before and I tried ut, but no one told me before I removed it.
Maybe some of us are trying to get back at women who wear trousers and other men-related clothings; but the truth is there is no point.
Whatever, I gbadun my ears.

Thanks to those who brought sanity into this thread. I can't fathom how some Agbaayas can give suggestions as raw as we have seen in this thread of discussion. This girl is young and we should be happy that she expressed herself.
Please face your studies and grow up! You have a very good future ahead and many more years to enjoy motherhood, and you have even answered your own question by saying that you are a xtian and can't indulge in sex. I am not sure Mary's miracle is still available here, so please get back to reality land end enjoy your young age, its not as easy as you see now, but you will be able to handle it when the time is ripe! Bless You!
FamilyRe: Co-habitation Before Marriage by hayo(m): 10:23pm On Mar 12, 2006
Do you know that even OND 1 students in some Polytechnics in Nigeria practised the nonsens. I just can't fathom the fact that one will lose his privacy and ability to meditate and utilise precious time so early in life when you have many years of married life to look forward to. Its not even about religion alone, but won't it be cool to look 4ward to having your wife with u after marriage? And not just waiting for her to permanently move in.

Living with someone before marriage does not give u the all-in-all view to their life. Co-habitation before marriage is bad and without mincing words, I don't see any benefit in it.

RomanceRe: Boyfriend Won't Marry Me Because I Can't Be His Slave by hayo(m): 2:52pm On Mar 07, 2006
Its not really easy giving advice in this kinda matter.
We can't hear from him to really know those things he saw before coming to the conclusion that you are too proud for him. We don't know his background too, cos that is a very major factor. Why is he always coming back after you break up with him, is there something special you give him that he can't get anywhere else. Why is it that you also keep going back? U have a job and he has a job; you are even 28, has he asked you to marry you? What are the feelers from his parents, are they interested in you?
If we don't have answers to these questions, it will be hard to judge.

RomanceRe: Do Tribes And Cultures Matter In Love And Marriage? by hayo(m): 2:16pm On Feb 27, 2006
This country is too big and there are a lot of traditions to observe. In some cultures, you pay once and take all, meaning that once you pay the dowry, you are free to take your wife and warn her never to return to her parent's house again smiley.
I once asked a friend why he is comfortable paying so much for a wife that is supposed to be his friend and he gave me an insight into his beliefs. He told me that in Igbo land, once he pays the bride price he has unlimited, unsharable access to his wife and that if she dare commit adultery, she will face the wrath of the gods smiley scary - that is his believe and the only way he thinks he can have a faithful wife and I can't blame him.
Those who don't believe in marrying from other tribes have valid reasons, but once you get over those reason, you can marry from any tribe and make it work. Another fear is not wanting your children to be strangers to your culture. Maybe you as a Yoruba man wants Yoruba children and not Edo children; the same could be traced to religion as in not wanting your kids to be raised as christians when you are a muslim.
As I said, once you are not bothered about those things, you acn comfortably marry from any tribe and enjoy your wedding and let's face it - we are already relaxing most of those cultures.
BusinessRe: Richard Branson And Mike Adenuga: Compare And Contrast by hayo(op): 1:32pm On Feb 27, 2006
Contrasts:
Adenuga is a Nigerian, Branson is British smiley
Branson did not make his money by benefitting from Government, We know Adenuga did.
Branson's investment do not smell Military and he does not appear to be fronting for a big man. Adenuga smells that popular junta head now turned politician.
Branson has an autobiography titled - Losing my virginity and I am yet to see Adenuga's own.
Branson is married to one wife and has two children - Adenuga is married, we don't know if more than one smiley and he sure has children (Not sure how many)

More will follow later - Let's have your thots too.
BusinessRe: Richard Branson And Mike Adenuga: Compare And Contrast by hayo(op): 1:19pm On Feb 27, 2006
Branson had to contend with the very powerful British Air when he wanted to start Virgin Atlantic and today, he has created a very successful airline that competes at par with BA and what a better tesimony than the fact that Virgin is now the official carrier in Nigeria.
Adenuga lost a bid in the first generation of GSM licensing in Nigeria together with the deposti (About 20 Million Dollars). We all know that story, he went ahead to get a better license, Second National Carrier which is superior to the license obtained by MTN and Vmobile in 2001. Glo Mobile went ahead to start Per Second Billing and launched the first truly Value Added Service network in Nigeria (GPRS, MMS, WAP).
Branson is very unconventional, he has done crazy things in the past - traveling in hot air ballon, posing nude in a magazine, e.t.c,
Adenuga has a lot og myths attached to him - He fires his staff anyhow, he works them mad, treats his staff like they don't exist.
They are both involved in many areas of businesses.
They are obviously both brilliant and creative.
They are goal-getters and believe so much in their abilities.
BusinessRichard Branson And Mike Adenuga: Compare And Contrast by hayo(op): 5:52pm On Feb 24, 2006
There are similarities between Mike Adenuga and Richard Branson of Virgin everything smiley

I just read an article in Thisday with the same title and I think studying these two guys is a guide to a successful entrepreneural future. But really I want us to identify their differences and relate it to the environment they operate from - Nigeria and UK.

CultureRe: If Your Wife-To-Be Can't Cook by hayo(m): 12:48pm On Feb 24, 2006
Seun, I feel you but I believe there are still very intelligent and ambitious young women who still understand the simple principle - make your husband happy.
And one of those ways is to provide good meals for the family, it is just a natural process that can't be over-emphasised. I don't fault your philosophy about eating out and having chefs, but you will need more than chefs when your wife can't cook - I am sure she also won't know other things and you will need a housegirl which in itself is a risk. Housegirls lure husbands, though some don't fall for the trick but they can also be bad influence on the kids. I prefer my house to be strictly me and my nuclear family. And do you think men are that lazy - no some of us are domesticated and believe me if we also want to leave our responsibilities like making sure power supply is in the house, keeping the lawn mowed, fixing all sorts of things, then we will have to hire a retinue of workers in the house.
For me, I will marry an intelligent, goal-getting babe who is also domesticated and I will make sure I help her in chores and do mine too. Some things are for men to fix in the house, period!

Nairaland GeneralRe: Concerning Our Dependence On Technology by hayo(m): 4:09pm On Feb 22, 2006
Well, it's kinda hard not to depend on these technologies, though sometimes, it makes us look foolish - I remember the other day I was looking for my purse and the thought occured to me to flash the purse as if it is a mobile phone , smiley
Well, maybe we will start using chips technology to solve that very soon, at least we can now track cars and there is a plan to start using the technology on humans though the 666 dimension has been raised by opponents of the proposition.

FamilyRe: Man Discovers On Wedding Night That Wife Is No Virgin by hayo(m): 3:26pm On Feb 21, 2006
Jesus said,

"Let him who is clean throw the first stone" (My own version)
The lady did not do too well in deceiving the guy and making him look forward to what "HE DOES NOT DESERVE". The guy obviously is not that pious and was just looking for the opportunity of getting what he can't offer.
He should just forgive and forget cos to start all over again is hard o and allowing family into this kinda matter will just expose him to ridicule. Your friends and family will even make jest of you when you are not there, maybe form a liitle and make his wife beg and promise to make up by being a faithful wife for life. Truth is if you meet your wife as a virgin - what gives you the assurance that once you remove the stringhold, she will not offer it to others?
Abeg, lets just hope she is a faithful wife and bet you, if he can forgive her, she will most likely make up for her past. A word is enough for the wise, KPAM
CultureRe: Can You Marry An Ijebu Lady? by hayo(m): 3:47pm On Feb 20, 2006
Ijebu Woman - Too Worldy, loves party and may kill you before you are wise to marry another woman
Ondo Woman - Lailai, one husband can never fill her cupboard
Ibadan Woman - Very rass, dirty and cunny
Ekiti Woman - Yeepa, you wan die. She is too bloody tough. Alagidi
Ife Woman - Oluku mi ree ni (Meaning they love concubines grin)
Oyo Woman - Sango o, Oko Oya, dem dey go herbalist's house like market

So which one we go come marry. It is not only Ijebu women that have stigmas associated to them, almost every town in Yoruba land has one or two. I have come to realise that it is a personal race and no matter where you come from, you decide what you believe and what you wanna do. So, look for a good woman and not a woman from a particular ethnic group or town.
RomanceRe: Virgin Girlfriend Gives Her Virginity To Aristo by hayo(m): 2:58pm On Feb 13, 2006
If a guy could wait for 6 whole years, then he will not be able to handle the yawa when he finds out his babe gave the precious and delicious apple to another man; especially an elderly family friend.
If she is ready to do it, I will advise her to confess to the guy before marriage or else they will live together like strangers. if she is not ready to confess, I think she should use style to end the relationship and look for a guy who doesn't mind marrying a non-virgin.
But really, I feel for the guy, it will be hard for him not to turn to a bad boy.

Simple and straighforward -
Haven't you wondered why Figo is still playing football and Nigerian players who were in Saudi '89 with him are cooling off in their house now.
The only player that survived long was Mutiu Adepoju who played the last reasonable match of his career in 1998. Let's face it.... we too dey lie!
CareerRe: Do Insurance Companies Pay Well? by hayo(m): 5:47pm On Feb 02, 2006
I used to work in an Insurance company before I switched to Telecoms. Anyway I was in the IT department of one of the most promising Insurance companies.
Not all Insurance companies are bad, some of them pay reasonably well...not too much but not too bad. Though the reality is most of them don't pay well at all, but you could be lucky to get one of the few good ones.
If you are in marketing, you also have a good chance of making big money. In my former company, if you bring a business you are entitled to 10-20% commission. But when you don't bring a business, you will be in trouble. Other non-marketing staff also bring businesses and collect commission too. If you can tell me the name of the Insurance company, I can tell you if they are worth it because many of them are mushroom companies smiley

On one of Kanu's bad day playing for Naija - A friend turned the advert to -

"Kanu, I know say one day you go make us cry"
