I really need advice concerning making a choice between the two jobs before me. My family members are divided over which job I should choose.

I'm working in a highbrow secondary school and my start up salary was N75,000. After three years, my salary is now N96,000.00. I just got a lecturing job with a private university and my gross salary according to the appointment letter is N88,000.00. My father wants me to continue with my teaching in the secondary school but my mother and fiancee are pressuring me to write acceptance letter to the university and accept the offer. There's no time, both the university and the secondary school will be resuming on 12/10/2020 and I have to make a choice between now and Thursday. My fiancee is already calling herself "wife of a lecturer" and threatening that she will quit the relationship if I did not accept the university offer. My mind is in the secondary school because there is free lunch and N150,000.00 housing allowance per year, but the university doesn't give lunch and housing allowance.

Should I go and become Mr. Lecturer and sacrifice my secondary school benefits?

Since its a private University they may start with you as a GA or AL.
Now if youre in that level within 3-4 years you must have a PhD or be prepared to face an uncertain future.
If I were you, I would stay in the Secondary School, work towards getting a PhD and get a better bargaining leverage.
My friend was in Igbinedion for 3 years with a PhD in Engineering. The thing wey man eye see, mouth no go fit talk am.
Salary was irregular, job insecurity, etc.

Please I want to know if it is still possible to graduate with a first class after been in second class upper in 100 level.

100 level first semester, I had 4.04 GPA then in second semester instead of going up, I dropped to 3.53 GPA reason being that I faced some personal challenges, bringing my 100level Cgpa to 3.83

I'm just happy that I never had any carry over in my first and second semester 100level.

Is it still possible to graduate with a first class from 200level to final year, 400level.

Anyways, I currently hold a Master's degree and I also recently gained admission into a PhD program in a UK university but with no funding from the school and the estimated total cost of the tuition and living expenses amount to about #16 million for the 3 years.

So, I decided to come seek the opinion of folks here with better experience if it really worth spending this amount in the long run or should I rather invest this amount?

However. my question is :how do you want to fund your tuition and living expenses?
What program are you interested in pursuing?

Have you factored in the recent devaluation of the Naira into your calculations?
Once you have solid and concrete answers to these questions. I think you can go ahead.

1. Beware of Unexciting or Boring Introduction



Like top recruiters, graduate school admissions committee also have limited time in going through tons of applications into the same programme. Stories are powerful ways of captivating the audience and aligning with your purpose of the letter. However, relating a tale from a distant relative, or similar narratives from friends could mean you just came to make up the numbers in the admission procedure. If at all, tell stories that only make personal or professional relevance to your admission plan.





5. Don’t Try to be verbose

Using too many words or showing off with a litany of sophisticated word use of the language you could think that will bring you closer to your dreams: sorry to disappoint you, it may not be too true for all cases. Except your application is in Literature or in the Arts; rather keep it simple, sweet and easy to understand.



6. Don’t fake your Experience or expertise



Trying to paint a picture of who you are not may be a very bad idea in your statement. If you’ve got the stuffs, show it! If not be silent on the not too perfect skills while amplifying the ones that make you a special candidate. Imagine a visit to Philippines with an avalanche narrative! Needless to say Philippines don’t have temperate climate! Or Coding Java on MS Word!



7. Tell a compelling story about you

8. Don’t force humour or pity

If you are not funny don’t just try to pull any jokes or humour in your write up! It’s not worth it. No pity party in Grad school, only candidates that show potentials to successfully deliver on their research are considered hence you must prop yourself to be such.



9. Seeking a second, third and fourth Opinion

I call it the law of the fourth which states that by the time you review a write up the fourth time, it becomes near perfect.
