Jobs/VacanciesRe: The Agony Of Unemployed Medical Graduates In Nigeria by hector: 10:53am On Jan 09, 2016
phineas:
Unserious kid on a pity party tale expecting life to be served by mummy and daddy like the undergrad days.I may be wrong. But this is how it works. You hustle. In every profession the hustle its real, you don't sit at home and expect housejob placements or real jobs for that matter.

Medecine is the job with the most opportunities at home and abroad for Nigerian graduates of medicine and you are there lamenting, the course that no week passes without calls for CV's in the paper.I'll bet you dont buy the papers and you're searching for jobs,Like seriously. If you feel there's no hope in Naija it takes 5 months to pass plab, leave and get a decent job in the UK,other options abound Australia, west indies etc so what are you waiting for? This post is for someone out there willing to help themselves.

Ill call it Phineas verses of wisdom for the brotherhood of the snake and cross.Sounds spooky,I know.

1-Be polite to your senior colleagues in school and stay in touch.
you senior colleagues are the key to opportunities in the medical world, that is students 3 yrs and above in school, they go ahead and by the time you are finshing NYSC they tell you of openings at their facilities, organizations and that of their collegues.

2-House job matter.
If you cant get into the federal system, stalk your state.Go to your state of origin, take a letter from your chairman, LGA Councillor, senator, grandfather, anybody just convince them repeatedly you're from your state, and have your family talk to everyone chances are you;ll get consideration above other applicants,If that fails, lots of private facilities offer housemanship,Baptist Hospitals,Catholic Hospitals,Eko Hospital,Not sure of ST Nicholas, etc.Arm yourself with that information and confirm their application periods,be willing to travel keep applying. You definitely cant be complaining about the 5k registration,if you're serious considering your speed of advancement and escape depends on this rate limiting step.

3-Decide if you're for Naija or "the Abroad",If Naija,For Clinical or Non Clinical Specialty
Decide and start your preparations in NYSC year with money saved from housejob.

4-If you're "the abroad" gang,
From start to finish it takes an average of 6 months to finish plab and start scouting for job placements which should take like 2 months thereabout for locum, after which you can then have good money to sort which of the abroad hustle you want. You can do PLAB from Naija travelling to and fro, during NYSC.
Save your housejob money for this purpose dont dash any relative eager to eat the fruit of their labour, save your parents though and even they should understand theres a bigger purpose to the picture.

5-If you're for Naija core Clinical,"the I want to serve my country and my people"(And you guyz deserve awards and acolades......)
(they eventually get disillusioned and join "the abroad gang" last last,or stay and grumble about everything whilst going on incessant strikes,or start Private practice)

Write primaries ASAP and start the search for residency ASAP,Consider same techniques as it was for Housejob Placements.
Don't waste time in PP except you own it,It is a waste of destinies.

6-If youre for Non core Clinical consider;
-Occupational Health-Company Dr
-Epidemiology-Disease surveillance etc
-Public Health-Program administration,project management
-dumping the stethoscope completely and starting farming for instance or politics,or work in the bank

If you've decided for Non Clinical, then Start gaining relevant experience Like ASAP in required field so you rise up the rank.
to find medical opportunities, read the dallies, apply and reapply, stay in touch with senior colleagues, volunteer.

Lastly Don't be afraid to travel all over Nigeria for opportunities,Now is the time to leave home in order to grow.Just be sure its the right kind of experience, that you are gathering, the kind you really want, and when you have sufficient experience don't sit and let life happen to you, apply and keep reapplying.Buy the papers ,use medical job sites for Nigeria and abroad.

Medcine in Nigeria is where some people earn 150k per month till midlife whilst some earn over 2m a month for years even in Naija.Ultimately, the choice is yours and how you choose to plan your life.

Its certainly wont happen by whining about how unfair life is to you.

Summary is Medcine is a brotherhood,"don't be a lone wolf"

I hope this helps someone.

U are trying to cover up what is obviously a bad situation.

My wife is in need of a health NGO for employment.

She's got a B. Sc in Human Anatomy and would be rounding up her M. Sc program in Public Health in the middle of the year.

Kindly assist us with any valid information, please.

Thanks.

NB: Location: Anywhere in the city of Port Harcourt; Rumuokoro axis would be most suitable though.
Eiyaa... i have a bsc in human anatomy also but the field seems to be a dead end as per job prospects. I pray the public health cert will liberate her.

Says who? A lot of men (mostly scammers and their ilk) beg - especially on this forum. In fact, they're light years ahead of their female counterparts.

Anyone can do this. "Flexing" isn't the exclusive preserve of any gender.

What does this mean? Care to explain further?

That isn't a very smart piece of advice, is it? Desperate times call for desperate measures. What if there isn't any other option in the foreseeable future? Or if such a man has got dependents to look after? You suggesting they all starve while he goes in search for the elusive "golden job"?

A bird in hand is worth two in the bush...

Understandable. Good point too - but 25years isn't the yardstick. Some fly the nest earlier, while others do it later. No hard and fast rules here.

My bro there are no hard n fast rules to anything in life. We all have exceptions to ideas n things.. which doesnt negate the truth.

If you work for someone and all you can do is feed then there is no much difference between u and a beggar.

If you wanna make money early enough then fly your nest early. Most late starters always end up wishing they had started earlier.

@EfemenaXY. in resonse to your question, '' What does this mean? Care to explain further?

What i mean is that every guy shud try not to be so ego-conscious when hustling or dealing with clients. Men are known to be very egotistic as compared to women.

The hustling world doesnt really require much of ego but that crowd-seducing mentality that women possess. Sometimes u need to be an ass-licker to get what you want. Afterall we've all been an ass-licker at one point or the other.
FamilyFor Guys--five Rules About Money And Your Future by hector(op): 8:41am On Dec 30, 2015
1.Men don't beg for money they do something to get money. Tipping is allowed but don't take it too far.
2. Your frnds can easily flex you with their money if they want but don't expect them to give u money for food thereafter.
3. When it comes to hustling, think like a man but act like a lady.
4. For your own good please don't take that job because u need to feed. Take a job that can help you save for the future.
5. Quit staying with your parents when you are 25 and above. Get your own apartment no matter how uncomfortable. You will be happy you did that later in life.
6.Please don't try to copy n paste. I wrote this, so go write yours. Thank you!

i am so fUcking tired after working for two years for a meagre pay, poor working conditions n high level of disregard from my employer. My boss feels she is doing us a favor by employing us. Resigning is not an issue since she can always get someone else as a replacement any time afterall they are many fresh graduates who can equally teach as much as anyone of us for the same 30k or even less if we decide to leave. She cant even raise our pay as she promised.

I dont like the job anymore. i am so depressed. So tired, my moral has dropped including my efficiency. i jus wanna leave buh i dont know whre else to go or wat next to do. i graduated wit a 2.2 despite being very sound in my field of study. reasons?? story for anoda day. Most gud companies always call for only 2.1 graduates for their entry level thereby making getting a better job somewhat difficult.

Things are a bit tight for my family now. I really wanna make it in life even wit my predicaments buh i dont know How. i am scared of resigning coz i dont have anyone i can depend on till i get something beta.

@op. Pliz don't mind all these ppl. i am a true son of ibibio nationality. Itu precisely. i commend u for the effort, time, unrestrained energy n submissiveness despite all d abuse. i am so delighted to know how much u cherish the ibibio nation n even going as far as writing about us. God bless u n pliz keep up the gud work. Dont mind this yeye people wen dey nairaland.
I am so ashamed of that one called sonOfmark, i use to think he was saner than he is today. i am disappointed.

@topic. the Efiks, oro, n andoni ppl will never agree to be a subset of ibibio no matter the angle of affiliation u might see it. The reason is not far-fetched, especially for the efiks n oro people, as they purportedly believe in their early civilization n education as compared to the ibibios. this ofcourse lacks credence n perhaps if remotely true doesnt really matter as what is obtainable today. Are they still more educated ? are we still their slaves?

The Ibibio is very proliferative n less rigid attracting more speakers than the other ethnic groups.

The other ethnic groups can claim their nationality as they wish, nobody is forcing anybody. Linguistics has made it clear that the other languages are dialects but they will never agree because of pride n ignorance. Even in unical, ibibio language is what is offered in dept of ling n com. studies instead of efik, so wat are we saying?

They are saying wikipaedia is not credible enough, pliz let them point out any scholarly documented research online that puts ibibio as a subgrp of efik? Efik bible is what the ibibios use, and so wat? Who told them that it is only an ibibio person that must write ibibio history?

shame on all the people insulting the op for taking out time to do wat they coundnt do for themselves. Wicked, backward set of people...

Anambrarians, u guys make a lot of noise over this academic thing as if there are no intelligent people in other states. As for the debate i am sure other states must hav won it in previous years n we didnt get to hear this kind of noise in nairaland. The best teacher thing jus started this year if i am correct, besides there are good teachers in other states who didnt border applying for the contest. Miss Obi can't be the best teacher in Nigeria. She only came first out of the ones that entered for the competition.

There are good students everywhre in Nigeria not only in Anambra state. Perhaps you guys jus happen to take academic competitions seriously n then prepare well for it. Thats your tactics we all know. Other states can adopt it if they want to, no big deal.

I served in Anambra. You guys dont have better learning environment or facilities than other states. It is well known that beyond your educational status quo u guys specialize in cheating n maneurvering everything to earn your desired accolades.

Stop making the noise. Stop the empty cacophony make we hear word. You can call me a hater i dont care. Maybe thats wat i am coz i hate u people's noise- making habit. It is too much n we are sick of it. #peace..

I dont know what it feels like when a girl gets h0rny but i know certainly to any length how it is when it involves the male gender. At least thats where i belong. It is one funny feeling that goes with a lot of characteristics. One minute u wanna be on your feet n walk around; the next minute, Ur head is filled up wit fantasies n then u cud feel itchy n u wanna touch, touch n touch.. and then it if it gets worse the boyhood thingy wakes up n starts roaming like an oversized mumu.lol. Bloody conji.. huh?? don't laugh, thats what it is..

Recently i stumbled on an article online on different types of food that promote the male sexual appetite-ONION is one of them. The next one is garlic and other varieties of spices-i was somewhat amazed not too surprise though. At least i know about afrodisiacs although i didn't really consider onions one of my favorite in the family of spices; i mean there is hardly any meal that doesnt include it in its recipe. Moreso its characteristic aroma that would linger in the air giving anyone that is using it that extra confidence that he or she too can fry as long as you have onions and oil. who cares about meat..lol. I don't cook often, but i wish i could but for the usual culinary laziness that goes with most guys n my tight schedule, i believe home-cooked food is the best anytime anyday. e nor dey give wahala..

Back to the horniness thing i was discussing. Well i do feel h0rny just like every other guy; Quite often i can't deny it n i'm not going to be apologetic, no courtesy; afteral who doesnt..? Howbeit that mad thing, yea i call it mad..coz of how lousy n heady it can be sometimes especially when no one is around--u know wat i mean, kikiki...

One evening i cooked me some pepper soup with rice. Sat on my bed n consumed it with joy, the hunger was serious.. Soon after i started watching TV and the"mad thing" came. i tried to snub it time n time again but all to no avail. Yea..i remembered almost immediately the article about the onions and the other spices. I had dumped it plenty in my pepper soup that evening. eww..and no bae around the corner i was in for it. That night i slept late under a thick blanket. Don't ask me what happened...i have finished learning my lesson with onions. Yet to discover another afrodisiac...i pray i do.

I usually have this sense of incompleteness until today. I av been worried abt my size. oooh..i arnt tall in the conventional sense n maybe i am short i dnt knw-that depends on where i find myself. In a crowd of too many tall people i feel short on the otherhand where they are many short or average people i gain some hope that maybe i aint that short afterall.I use to have a girlfrnd who would always tell me hw cute i was even though she felt i was a few inches shorter than her ideal man- tall, ebony and broad-shouldered like Micheal Jordan or Tyrese look-alike. I would laugh n wave it away while i brood inside. Fastforward, today i still feel awkward sometimes n i wish n wish n wish..everyone does maybe, but that is only one part of it.

The other part of it has to do with size,body-size if thats wat they call it. I look in the mirror n i'm like uuuuh..i am adding, nice one. All the margarine, my fat-filled meat n plenty of eba is doing some job. Few days after, for an unexplainable reason when i stand in front of the mirror-sometimes all naked and then i see my ribs jutting out. My ever unhidden clavicle throbbing out to form that gutter in my neck-a permanent reminder that i wud have passed for a gud male model without dieting if i was taller. A fuss-my face changes. What happens to all the yummy n the late night food and the meat i av been eating?? even the local gym n d dumb bells that i wrestle wit everynight in front of my house?? ughrrhh..i wud hiss n hiss but thats not all. The cycle continues n then again i wud add n lose the weight faster than i thought.

Fastforward, this morning this plump dude-a neighbour. i kinda like his size. My dream size actualy not fat but chubby brought some stuff home in a taxi. i helped him to take it inside the house some few yards away. Gosh...this guy was breathing heavily after just a few minutes like he was going to die-guess its d fat. My heartbeat ws steady-barely audible. I cant tell wat happened to him but at a point i felt pity for him n i wishd i cud tell him not to worry that i was going to carry all the load buh that wasnt jus possible.

To cut the long story short. i know being chubby might seem appealing buh believeme frm wat av seen so far n wit wat i learnt in school, it comes wit a lot of price, too pathetic...I dnt knw about being tall-coz they are always looking cool to me. I might do a little research on that. For now i love being me. NOT THIN, NOT FAT AND MAYBE NOT TALL(lol).
RomanceRe: Help!i Think Am Gay by hector: 11:22pm On Aug 02, 2015
@op. U are not gay u are only being over emotionally attached to that ur frnd. I guess u guys av spent too much time wit each n gradually u v develop feelings unconciously for him just lik u wud do for a lady.

Dnt mind this ppl telling u to go f**k p***y coz it wont help. i av been in ur shoes before n i did all dat bullshit buh it didnt help.

The truth is dis, certain ppl av encounterd this problem at one time or d oda in their lives( Alexander the great ws one of such persons). Its usually a pointer to;
1. ur sexuality i.e its time to explore ur sexual preference n see whre u really belong. u cud be bisexual not necessarily gay. and if dat is d case u can either accept it or reject it. the choice is yours!!

2. You might jus be infatuated, by that i mean the feminine part of u is trying to overshadow the masculine you.
SOLUTION: take it easy with urself. give urself time n it will go away. it happens to certain ppl.
