What you are rabbiting about is pretty obvious dear fellow. And talking about being responsible, who can be more irresponsible than you have been with your posts so far? Take chill pills and put off the siege mentality. It stinks. Nobody is out to get you.

Must you be aggressive about everything. Most of you girls are just too shallow and insecure that you view everything as an insult. And so what python are you talking about if not the normal python which everybody knows is a snake. It's either that, or you are a sex hawker and/or a nymphomaniac.

TV/MoviesRe: Angelo And Bimp Evicted From Big Brother Africa The Chase by henchyk(m): 11:32pm On Aug 18, 2013
Please give us better things to talk about than this BBA nonsense. I don't even see why a normal human being who calls himself a normal human being will decide to sit down for hours to watch other peoples' lives. Why don't they watch your own life? Besides, don't you have a life to live? I don't understand it and I probably never will. Some call it entertainment but please what kind of stupid entertainment involves two mature people having sex together on continental TV, watched mostly by minors who the show admittedly isn't for. But then How many parents regulate what their children watch? My point is that this show is doing a lot more harm to our general society than good, it is even making our already jobless youths more jobless and useless than they would care to admit, and the earlier it is stopped for good, the better for all of us. Infact, Big Brother Africa is proof that an entire continent can be outrageously stupid at the same time. God help us.

It's a very sad thing how every post of Wole Soyinka is instantly turned into hateful tribal arguments. It is wonderful and it is also overwhelmingly disgusting. There was absolutely nothing in this post that gives any kind of basis for the kind of tribalistic comments I'm seeing on here. Is Dame Patience even an Igbo woman? The answer is no. So where does the Yoruba and Igbo/Biafra comparisons come in please? Must we leave the entire idea of this post to wander into the battleground of virtual/e-tribalism? Must we always do this? Have you not noticed that nobody ever wins? Trying to point out the deficiencies or weaknesses of someone's tribe is just the same as trying to prove to a mother that her baby is ugly. It never ends peaceful. Everybody should calm down. Please.
Jobs/VacanciesRe: Nigerian Army DSSC And SCC 2013 Recruitment Is Out! by henchyk(m): 2:22pm On Aug 18, 2013
It all boils down to doing whatever you can do to put food on your table. I don't see anything wrong with someone going for a military job solely because he is jobless or there isn't any other option. This country is not smiling with anybody so please allow people to do what they have to do to find food. Yes food. Everything boils down to food. We work because we have to eat.... Now forgive my joke, but seriously, there is nothing wrong with aspiring to become an army officer just because you don't have any other choice. It's a sad country we are in, and the last time I checked, unemployment rate was 48%. 48% my brothers, so it has gotten a little redundant to insult a fellow Nigerian for his joblessness. It's kindda out of his hands now.
Jobs/VacanciesRe: Nigerian Army DSSC And SCC 2013 Recruitment Is Out! by henchyk(m): 8:16am On Aug 15, 2013
I don't think there will be any list yet. I think there will be an aptitude test first. You can't just sell forms for 2,500 naira to people and then you compile a list. There has to be equal opportunities for everyone, hence the need for an aptitude test.

PhonesRe: Samsung-Galaxy Tab2 VS Tecno-Phantom Pad N9 by henchyk(m): 6:02pm On Aug 10, 2013
Seriously, a lot of you are petty, childish, and just plain naive. Since when did owning an iPhone or a Samsung galaxy S4 become an evidence than a person is wealthy? Anybody can starve themselves for 3 months to buy an iPhone. Like please, what is your point? Why are you lot angry that tecno have started producing quite affordable phones that can do at least 80% if not more of what phones from other high-end brands can do?

Let me even ask a question. Is a phone an asset? The answer is a capital NO. That phone you are bragging about today will almost certainly become obsolete in a year time and the value then might just be 10 percent of whatever you bought it for. Some prudent Nigerians know this and that is Why they go for Tecno phones because apart from them being light on the pocket, it does almost everything an average user expects from an android phone and when it finally gets obsolete you really wouldn't mind because you can look back and remember how much you bought it.

I have gotten really tired of people who have no goals in life, who have no real-life assets, who have no sustainable wealth, who have no discernible plans for their future come on here everyday to claim to be superior because they managed to buy an iPhone or a Samsung galaxy phone. Look, that you own a particular brand of phone does not in any way make you better than any other person on this planet we find ourselves because like I have just proven, a phone is not even an asset. The average Onitsha business man will use a Nokia torchlight phone and yet his net worth will be 100 times your own. You need to start having sense.

So please get off your virtual, non-existent high horse and start being reasonable. Appreciate tecno for the little work they are doing in making android phones affordable to average Nigerians, which I am sure almost all of you posting on this thread are. Some of you buy phones just because of the brand names But is that really what phones are about? Those people who bought a tecno phone are just spending their money wisely, and it doesn't mean you are richer, classier, or more important than them. I think I'm done here.

Bought the Phantom tablet in Owerri last Monday and so far so good. Really, I feel it's a bargain price for a device of it's quality. So far i've had no problems with it, and I'm a heavy phone user. It's a groundbreaking device if you ask me. The only downside I can find is the lack of LED flash. Get this tablet if you have the means. Samsung is a greedy company, and money cannot waste.

Jobs/VacanciesRe: Nigerian Army DSSC And SCC 2013 Recruitment Is Out! by henchyk(m): 12:39pm On Jul 17, 2013
This is my first time of commenting on this thread. I bought the army DSSC form back in May, filled it online and forgot about it. It was only yesterday that I actually remembered that I applied for Direct Short Service with the army and I haven't heard anything from them since I did, so I decided to come on Nairaland to look for it's thread (cos I know threads for all manner of things exist here).

Now I've scanned thru this thread (as you won't possibly expect me to read through 76 pages of people's facts and opinions, most of which are incoherent) and I've learned a few things and gotten some information as regards the DSSC and I thank all of you. Although towards the latter parts of this thread I noticed that some of you took it upon yourselves to bring destabilization to the thread. The reason I decided to apply for the army was just the dire unemployment situation in the country, I must be very Frank with you. I had'nt any burning desire to work with the army but a nigga had to get a life so I applied. I'm sure this should be the case with many of you here.

Now I understand from your posts that the army plans to hold an aptitude test, and some of you are saying that the army will just shortlist people. The problem with these two means of recruitment is that there will he heavy corruption involved, considering the country we find ourselves in. I particularly have had terrible experiences with government-organized aptitude tests so I really have no faith in it. But the army just shortlisting people is even going to be even worse Cos it will give room to all manner of nepotism, godfatherism and the likes. So I'll go in favor of organizing an Aptitude test which is the lesser devil here. I have no Oga at the top, not even one, and I come from a State with really educated and ambitious people so the quota thing does not favour me, but I'm just going to trust God. I'll be following this thread from now onwards to know what is happening as regards the DSSC and I wish all of us the best.

Thank you.

PoliticsRe: Wole Soyinka's Interview About Chinua Achebe by henchyk(m): 8:35am On May 27, 2013
Ola Johnson: Henchyk, first, put my tribe aside. I'm not a tribalist. Have I mentioned my tribe as being superior to any? Tell me. If storytelling 'refers to a very special niche in literature reserved for people who narrate fiction and make it relevant to current or historic happening', then you will be doing yourself the good of refering to CA as the MASTER STORYTELLER. Yes, MASTER STORYTELLER, not even father or king storyteller.

Yes, CA was the first editor of the African Writers Series (AWS), he never published Beautiful Ones Are Not Yet Born (AWS 43)and Weep Not Child (AWS 7). They were published by their authors, Ayi Kwei Armah and Ngugi Wa Thiong'O, respectively. They are novels published as books not poems published together with others in an anthology like "Poems Of Black Africa" with over 300 poems edited by WS. Or like papers gathered in seminars or conferences and then go to the editor(s) for publication as done in History, Philosophy, etc.
Its quite obvious even to the blind that you are a tribalist. Your argument lacks form and pattern and that can only be achieved by someone with heavy sectional bias.

I think you are getting the point of the argument wrong. The question was "Does Achebe deserve the Title of Father of Modern African Literature?". I've written a couple of posts now explaining to you why Achebe deserves that title and the only thing you could come up with was that Achebe Is just a Master storyteller. I really do not get you. Are you trying to say that Fiction or Prose is less dignified than Poetry in Literature? Or are you trying to say that on account of Achebe being a Master Storyteller, he cannot therefore be called Father of Modern African Literature? Is there some kind of mutually exclusive function between those two titles? You are just confusing youself.

Being called the Father of Modern African Literature has absolutely nothing to do with the genre of Literature you belong to so please do not bring up the issue of Achebe being a storyteller again. You are steadily losing credibility with each new post you write. I have explained to you how and why Achebe deserves that title in my previous post and i would not be dragged into doing it again.

And point of correction. It was Achebe who published those Aforementioned early African classics (weep not child, etc) and not the authors. Published not wrote. Get the distinction. He did that in his capacity as Editor in chief of the AWS. Therefore he was the leader of modern African literature. WS was the only notable African literary artist that refused to be part of the AWS. That should give you an idea of how influential the AWS was... And Achebe was its first leader for close to 12 years. He pioneered Modern African Literature and you have to come to terms with that.

Can you, even in the blindness of your tribal sentiments mention even one african writer who deserves that fond and honorary Title of Father of Modern African Literature more than Chinua Achebe? I challenge you to mention even one soul... But please, for everything that is reasonable and sensible, do not mention Wole Soyinka because that will only highlight how petty and ignorant you are.
Nairaland GeneralRe: Bus Preacher Beaten To Coma In Lagos After Condoms Fall From Bible by henchyk(m):
This story sounds "tempered with" at best and like an outright falsified cock and bull story at worst. It sounds like one of those stories comedians tell to make people laugh, but its all well and good tho.

Now just assuming everything in the story was true, nobody has the right to beat anybody up because condoms fell off from a bible of their's. Its a free country yeah? And there is also the possibility of the alleged pastor being a married man. Could it not be that he used the condoms with his wife? I know there was an entry in the story talking about the pastor screaming that he supports safe sex when he saw he was about to be lynched but common, that part just might have been added by the storytellers to infuse further humor into their mumbo jumbo.

All in all i will advise that nobody draws unnecessary conclusions from this piece of mischief called a story. Even if the story was completely true, it does not take anything off our Nigerian Pastors. There are a lot of very good and genuine Nigerian Pastors out there. The sheer number or population of these Pastors invariably ensures that there will be one or two bad eggs here and there (fake pastors). You also do not get to hear about the good things numerous pastors do but only hear about the bad things some of them do because the media uses it to attract attention and more interest from the public. You'll hardly see things like "Nigerian pastor feeds entire mass at crusade" (which is being done almost on daily basis mind) as headline, but you'll easily see things like "Pastors kid expelled for cultism" as headline because it attracts more attention.

My stand is that if you must point out the bad things some pastors do, you should also point out the good things (which actually outweigh the bad) so many of them do. Dont have a biased and unbalanced media representation of pastors. It does not help anybody.
PoliticsRe: JTF Takes Over All Boko-Haram Camps by henchyk(m): 7:23am On May 27, 2013
Kudos to the military on a job well done. I wish them further success as the entire Boko Haram thing was becoming a major pain in the ass and was even beginning to threaten the very fabric of the Nigerian Government. This is how stories of rebellion and lawlessness, as we get to see them in various African countries today, start. The government was quite right to do this and should not even relent or give them any breathing space, they should crush them completely.

The Government should also have a plan to fish out those BH members/supporters that have managed to infiltrate positions of Government and the high echelons of power in the society. These sponsors and supporters of BH will have to be found out and punished for there to be any lasting solution.

Some other northern states like Kaduna Kano and Katsina should also be given some attention as it appears they have BH people/camps in them but Borno had the worst case and the army was right in tackling them there first.

All in all this is a commendable development and i'll urge the President to continue in this newfound might.

God bless Nigeria.
PoliticsRe: Wole Soyinka's Interview About Chinua Achebe by henchyk(m): 10:27pm On May 26, 2013
Ola Johnson: Henchyk, CA was a great writer but was never at any point in time, in any place, at any event crowned father of African literature. WS' interview is simple to be understood. He only affirmed the position of CA, who never liked being labelled such. I ask again, who, apart from Nadine Gordimer, called or calls CA father of African literature? If you can tell me I will quit this thread. He is widely referred to as a storyteller. Read newspapers, both local and international, you will never see where he is called father of African literature. Even his fellow Igbo man, Douglas Anele, a philosopher in UNILAG, and columnist in the Vanguard, a man whom I respect so much for his "Sunday Perspective", called him STORYTELLER with all sense of respect.
I do not get you sir. So how does being a Storyteller exclude you from being referred to as Father of Modern African Literature? Need i remind you that the term "Storyteller" refers to a very special niche in literature reserved for people who narrate fiction and make it relevant to current or historic happenings. In otherwords, that term is not a derogatory one but a very complimentary one. Even Achebe calls himself a storyteller. Although i am still struggling to see how Achebe being a storyteller has anything to do with him being called the Father of Modern African Literature. You see how once again you are effectively clutching at straws? You even when went ahead to ask me that miserable question of who else has referred to Achebe as Father of Modern African Literature even when i answered you beyond permissable doubt in my former post.

I think your problem is that you have failed to understand why Achebe was given that title. His work was actually the first to expose the concept of African literature to the world. Before him, the world outside had no idea Africa can tell its story, can write about itself. It is very important you understand the point i'm trying to make here. He made the world to become aware of and interested in African literature (hence Father of Modern African literature) by writing a novel that cut accross cultures and boundaries and found relevance in so many societies of the world. I need not remind you how much of a success Things fall Apart was.

Now this is why Achebe was referred to as Father of Modern African literature and that is aside from the fact that he served as the 1st Editor in chief of the African Writers Series where he published scores of early African classics like Weep not Child and The Beautiful ones are not yet born amongst others. Not to mention his fatherly advices and guidance to the young African writers of his day. He served as the Head of the African Writers Series for a long time and helped shape the direction of modern literature in Africa. Honestly i cannot think of anyone more befitting of the title of Father of Modern African Literature than Chinua Achebe.

I do not want to believe that tribalism is the only factor playing a role in your blind arguments and i would like to think that you are slightly uninformed about the details of Achebe's contibutions to African literature and that is why i took time to reply you.

Please stop arguing blindly on this matter and see truth as it is. I know yoruba people as open minded people and this attitude of yours is really not doing any good to the reputation of your tribe.

Give honor to whom honor is due.
PoliticsRe: Wole Soyinka's Interview About Chinua Achebe by henchyk(m):
I weep for you people.

Are you all so blinded by tribalism that you cannot see Achebe for the great literary giant that he is? To be specific, the Father of Modern African Literature? I am in shock.

I will not bother replying the prehistoric slowpoke (sorry for this insult but that nigga is a 1st class fool) that calls himself CameroonPride. His petty and childish arguments were at best inconsistent and i'll leave it at that. He's not worth arguing with and i'm genuinely surprised some of you here that actually know what you are saying took the pains to argue with him.

I'll rather talk about Mr Johnson's never ending challenge of "Tell me someone other than the South African nobel winner to call Achebe the Father of African Literature" ....My God you shocked the bejesus out of me. Like seriously is that really the point of this whole argument? But its alright, let me indulge you.

Now listen, somebody will have to start something, and if the fact that a Nobel prize winner in Literature was the first to give Achebe that title (which the rest of the world (both literary and non literary) with the exception of WS agrees with, mind) does not help you see how clearly he deserves the title then nothing on earth will. Its not a matter of who else has called him by that title after that (because you cannot rationally expect us to actually conjure up a list of everybody who have talked about CA before his death). The most obvious answer to your unnecessary question is the tributes and praises that have come in from all over the world from heads of states and very prominent and notable people at his death, referring to him as Father of Modern African Literature (at least 2/3 of all the tributes i read had that title or a paraphrase of it in them). If that dosn't answer your question then nothing else will.

Its just sad that when you have been defeated on all fronts, you still try to stay relevant in the argument by asking who else apart from a particular person has called Achebe Father of Modern African Literature. I mean dude, google is your friend.

And to other people on here with anti-CA sentiments, the only advice i can give you all is to go have your minds liberated and don't let your disgusting tribalism stop you from recognizing the immeasurable contributions of Chinua Achebe to African literature and to accord him the honor he deserves. Posters before me have given you all the links you need. Keep an open mind, read those links and realize your folly.

Chinua Achebe is the Father of Modern African Literature. The world has given him that prestigious title and honor. It will stick, and no amount of argument on Nairaland or elsewhere will change that.

God bless all of you. Goodday.
PoliticsRe: Wole Soyinka's Interview About Chinua Achebe by henchyk(m): 5:33pm On May 23, 2013
Posters like this ola Johnson, bodybuilder and co are just consumed by blind hatred for igbos and anything igbo that they have refused to see how and why Achebe is the all in all when it comes to literature in Africa.

I've been following this thread for a while now and the blind tribalism exhibited by the aforementioned people and co is clear for all to see.

Mr Johnson for example steadily seeks to incite anger among the igbo posters by referring to Igbos as "jews" and implying that their courageous hero Ojukwu was a fool. I mean, isnt that childish and stupid?

The fact is that these posters have been consumed with heavy bias and it will be impossible to change their stance on this subject, so i am going to have to call for an end to this discussion.

The overwhelming trend with the yoruba ppl posting on this thread is their readiness to insult and abuse others who disagree with their views especially when they have no answer for them or cannot counter their (the people being insulted) arguments. It does not speak well of the Yoruba tribe to be honest. The sheer jealousy and hate is too obvious.

Tribalism should not stop any reasonable person from acknowledging a man like Achebe who contributed immeasurably to the advancement of African Literature. Achebe is late afterall. Lets honor him for his talents and achievements and let all this unnecessary hatred stop.

I just hope the people disgracing the prestigious English language are not Abuja first interview hopefuls cos imma be real disappointed. I took that test and i dont think anybody that managed to pass it would have such elementary problems with grammer and vocabulary.

Anyway back to more important things... From the trend of the posts we are seeing here, its fairly obvious that we Abuja peeps are going to have to wait longer than we thought for our 1st interview. Thank God there's something else i'm doing to keep busy. As for Corper (i used this term intentionally, to incite anger. LOL) Gombs and co, do not be surprised if the interview happens to be on the 5th, altho i honesty do not pray for that but do not tempt the fates.

Another thing is that i'll like for DB to transfer this whole recruitment process down to Owerri for me if it is possible (pls who knows if that is possible?), as the thought of travelling to Abuja for this thing all the time does not sound really wonderful, especially considerating accomodation and all.

Anyway i just thought i should show up my face, yeah its been a while. And to let fellow Abuja peeps know they are not alone in their wait. God will do it for all of us.
PoliticsRe: Wole Soyinka's Interview About Chinua Achebe by henchyk(m): 9:28pm On May 21, 2013
Chinua Achebe deserves the honorary title of Father of Modern African Literature. If you still think you can begrudge him that then you are simply acting out of disgraceful tribal sentiments or you are just being plain ignorant.

No offence to Wole Soyinka but careful reading of this interview piece clearly shows a hidden bitterness which he tries, using his immense literary talents, to cover. His habit of using unnecessary and sometimes obsolete vocabulary to buttress his point also simply suggests a less dignified attempt to make himself appear like a literary god. Nothing beats passing on your thoughts in clear and simple English. Language is meant to clarify and inform and should not be used as a tool to propagate further confusion.

I respect WS but he should try not to beltttle the achievements of Achebe using Sarcasm and complex literary connotations like he did in his reply to the first question the Sahara Reporters asked him. WS is too arrogant and insulting and that does not count in his favor one bit. He should try to be humble and realize that he occupies this tiny niche in the universe with other homo sapiens too and that he is lord over none.
LiteratureRe: Is “Things Fall Apart” Really Chinua Achebe's Best Work? by henchyk(m): 2:47pm On May 21, 2013
Arrow of God was Achebe's best work. It's about the deepest novel I've ever read.

The proverbs alone in Arrow of God can last a man a lifetime if taken one a day. Its a very rich novel.
