The Leader of the Niger Delta Peoples Volunteer
Force, NDPVF, Mujahid Asari Dokubo, Thursday
morning declared that the Niger-Delta part of
Nigeria can no longer sustain the north, which
he called "barren".
A recent statistics circulating on the internet
shows that a major part of the north has no
contribution to the nation’s federation account
and Dokubo said he would mobilise to shut
down Nigeria if the Niger-Delta region is not
granted full control of its resources.
In a statement signed by Comrade Rex Emojite
Anighoro, for Dokubo and the group, the self-
acclaimed freedom fighter called Nigeria “a
luciferian contraption of convenience dubiously
crafted to criminally sustain the parasitic and
predatory expansionist and supremacist Gambari
North.”
Declaring that it is no longer business as usual,
he stressed: “may it be known to all our
representatives both at the National Conference
and the National Assembly who continually
compromise the interest of the Niger-Delta
region that they would be declared persona non
grata in the region and their sins visited on them
in their own life time. They would be treated as
enemies of the region as the profanity of Esau
can no longer be tolerated.”
He said events of the past weeks at the National
Conference, Abuja, Nigeria’s Federal Capital,
seem to have given credence, beyond reasonable
doubts, to his argument “that this Lugardian
edifice is indeed a mistake of 1914 that is
beyond redemption and ought now to be
deconstructed.
“Indeed, the lie of an illusional and nonexistent
unity of Nigeria has been glued and nourished at
the monumental expense of the South with
specific mention of the Niger Delta.
“This is a hypocritical reality that must be
dismantled, while we have continually shown an
unneedful accommodation, bending our backs to
a breaking point in the sustenance of a barren
and impotent Gambari North, the putrifying odour
of their arrogance in ignorance in their dementia-
thought patterns as the owners of our God given
commonwealth calls for the immediate
revocation of the further show of our charity.
“While we have given a very difficult and
unexpected support to the National Conference in
the hope that it may help salvage and rework a
defective foundation of a union consummated in
an illicit wedlock, we have been vindicated that
we are not rabble rousing incurable separatist
and war mongers.
“Our call for a Sovereign National Conference to
discuss our collective terms of our existence at
the table of brotherhood has thoroughly enjoyed
the contempt and abuse of a people irrevocably
determined to suffocate and confiscate our
commonwealth and non-extinguished
sovereignty.
“Let us state very emphatically that irrespective
of the final determination of the National
Conference, our minimum expectation and
demand as a people is and remains 100 percent
control of our resources or nothing.
“Yes, the National Conference can go on and
propose even one hundred states, agree to
rehabilitate and develop areas ravaged by
insurgency and internal conflicts, agree to
develop solid minerals resources and whatever,
but let it be known that not a dime of the
resources of the people of the Niger Delta should
be factored into this oddious compromise.”
Dokubo said the current situation in the country
now calls for a definitive moment to demand the
abolition of “the sustenance of the barren states
of Nigeria with the resources of the Niger-Delta
in the name of monthly allocations amongst
others.
“We hereby equivocate that going back to the
creeks may be inevitably preferable rather than
allow for the wealth of our people be used to
develop or rehabilitate a parasitic, barren yet
ignorantly arrogant Gambari North.
“We are fully ready to mobilise our people from
across the Niger Delta and even in diaspora to
stand up for definite showdowns and direct
actions.
“The Gambari North must no longer be sustained
at our expense, our God given resources belong
to us and not Nigeria. The end of Lugard’s
Nigeria is Now!”

A group of Northern youths under the aegis of
Arewa Youth Development Foundation, has given
two-week ultimatum to southerners currently living
in the north to relocate to their respective states to
enable northerners who would be returning home
have a space.
This directive was contained in a statement read
and jointly signed by the group’s national
president, Mr Aliyu Usman and its secretary,
Comrade Alfred Solomon, during a visit by the
group to the Emir of Kano, Alhaji Muhammadu
Sunusi II, in his palace.
The group described the recent arrest of all imams
of Juma’at mosques in Abia State, the arrest of
northern traders, the happenings at the national
confab, among others issues, as regrettable.
It said, “in the event that all the resolution failed,
we call on all northerners to rise and support
agitations for a peaceful dissolution of this union
called Nigeria, for every region to go its own way.”
While addressing the youths, the Emir of Kano
called on youths to be ambassadors of peace and
imbibe the culture of peaceful coexistence
He said: “We should not forget that it is natural for
people of different minds and cultural backgrounds
to live in one entity called a nation. I, therefore,
urged you to imbibe the culture of peaceful
coexistence.”

The “gospel” is now a product marketed with
razzmatazz by mega-pastors and televangelists.
I was having lunch at “Sweet Sensation,” a fast-
food restaurant in Lagos, when someone tapped
me on the shoulder. I looked back to see a
gentleman grinning at me from ear to ear. “Dr.
Aribisala, how are you doing?” he asked
expansively. It was one of my former pastors.
As a young believer, I was so hungry for God I
juggled several church-memberships
simultaneously. I grew up in the Anglican
Communion. But when I finally had an encounter
with Christ, I switched to the Baptist Church and
then to Pentecostal Assembly. Even then, I also
attended mid-week services at Zoe Ministries,
before ditching both for several branches of the
Redeemed Christian Church of God.
When the Lord formally called me to a healing
ministry, I decided to establish a Christian
fellowship of my own with a handful of people in
Lagos. Within five years, it metamorphosed into a
full-fledged church.
A repentant pastor
My former Zoe pastor was genuinely glad to see
me and I readily changed tables to sit with him.
He told me he was no longer with his old church
but was now coordinating a small prayer-group.
He wanted to know what I was doing. When I told
him my office was just five minutes away, he
insisted on seeing it. So after finishing my lunch, I
took him back to my office complex and showed
him the different features of the building.
When we came to my office, I sat down behind my
desk and he sat in front of me. He looked at me
with a curious intensity. Then he said: “So you are
now a pastor?” It was a question and yet not a
question. I had shown him the church-hall, the
Christian video and book libraries, the prayer-
room, television room and the counselling
cubicles. I had also come clean and acknowledged
I was then a pastor. Nevertheless, he felt it
necessary to ask the question again, as if he was
trying to confirm it to himself.
He suddenly became very quiet. He seemed to
crouch a little bit in his seat. He stared for an
embarrassingly long time at his finger nails. Then,
out of nowhere, he started to apologise to me. His
apologies were all the more intriguing because we
never had any noticeable differences in the past.
But there in my office that afternoon, he just felt
the need to apologise and I understood exactly
why. In a rambling manner, he told me how sorry
he was for “all the rubbish we were doing in those
days.” Somehow, he just knew that by now I
would have come to know they were rubbish, even
if I might not have realised it at the time.
I remember one occasion when Zoe president,
Patrick Anwuzia, was visiting the church, we were
required to raise a “love offering” for him. But then
the pastor insisted it had to be in either dollars or
pounds sterling. He asked for public pledges but
when nobody responded, he called people up at
random and dictated pledges for them. He told
them what they had to contribute irrespective of
whether they were so disposed or not.
In those days, he often came up with imaginative
ploys to extract money from us. No less than three
offerings were collected every service; one for the
Father, another for the Son and a third for the Holy
Spirit.
Church business
When Jesus was only twelve years old, he went
with his adoptive-parents to Jerusalem to
celebrate the Passover. But on returning back
home, they discovered he was missing. They
spent an agonising three days searching for him
and finally found him in the temple, engaged in
discussion with the teachers of the law.
His mother chided him for his insensitivity. She
said: “Son, why have you done this to us? Look,
your father and I have sought you
anxiously.” (Luke 2:48). But Jesus was
unapologetic. He said to them: “Why did you seek
me? Did you not know that I must be about my
Father’s business?” (Luke 2:49).
A similar anomaly applies to pastors. Precisely
what is the Father’s business and to what extent
are pastors engaged in it? The Father’s business is
supposed to be the preaching of the gospel in
order to usher men into the kingdom of God. But
make no mistake about it; today’s churches are far
more interested in your money than in your soul.
The single, most important, objective of today’s
pastorate is the collection of money from church-
goers.
House of merchandise
Folusho Aribisala told me about a banker colleague
of his whose church applied for a loan from his
bank. He was dismayed to find in the application
projections about anticipated increases in the
amount of tithes and offerings that would be
collected over the next few years. The man was
disgusted that his church was not only targeting
his current income, it was already making plans
about his future earnings.
Jesus’ gospel is addressed to the poor. (Luke
4:18). James insists it is the poor that God has
chosen for his kingdom. (James 2:5). But the
primary focus of today’s gospel is the rich.
Pastors are ever reaching out to those better able
to pay fat tithes and give big offerings. Some even
give commissions to church-members who invite
them to church. In some cases, special seats up-
front are reserved for them.
Pastors have become get-rich-quick tipsters who
offer keys, not of the kingdom, but of financial
prosperity. We organise special programs for
businessmen, promising to give them the power to
get more wealth. Like Joel Osteen, pastor of
Lakewood Church in Houston, Texas (U.S.A.), we
offer our parishioners “your best life now;” an
infinitely more appealing proposition than Jesus’
“take up your cross and follow me.”
Marketing Jesus
No wonder, many now see church-going in
economic terms; deeming it invaluable for making
business connections. Bankers come to church in
search of depositors. Traders come to church in
search of customers. That nice gentleman shouting
“hallelujah” across the aisle from you is likely to
button-hole you after the service, give you his
complimentary card, and inform you that he
services generators; just in case you are
interested.
The “gospel” is now a product marketed with

Bishop T.D. Jakes of Potters House, Dallas, Texas
organises a lavish annual religious jamboree called
“MegaFest.” The 2005 edition in Atlanta, Georgia
was sponsored by Coca-Cola; GlaxoSmithKline;
American Airlines and Ford Motor Company,
among others.
But how can the gospel of a kingdom not of this
world be obligated, at the same time, to corporate
America? Inevitably, there is conflict, as the
message is punctuated by the obligatory “word
from our sponsors.” It is not a surprise therefore
that, according to Annette John-Hall of the
Philadelphia Inquirer, during the kick-off of the
2005 MegaFest, T.D. Jakes mentioned his
corporate sponsors more times than he mentioned
God.
In effect, pastors are no longer engaged in the
Father’s business. Mary and Joseph have been
looking for us in all the right places, but to no
avail. Someone needs to tell them we can be
found in the supermarkets and flea-markets,
putting Jesus up for sale.

Pro-Russian rebels fighting
central Kiev authorities claimed on Thursday that
the Malaysian airline that crashed in Ukraine had
been shot down by a Ukrainian jet.
“Witnesses watching the flight of the Boeing 777
passenger plane saw it being attacked by a battle
plane of the Ukrainian forces,” the government of
the self-proclaimed Lugansk People’s Republic
said in a statement.
“After that the passenger plane split in two in the
air and fell on the territory of the Donetsk People’s
Republic,” said the statement, adding that the
Ukrainian jet was shot down afterwards.

ONITSHA – The family of Mr Daniel Asadu, a
Nigerian who was recently condemned to death in
far away Republic of China for allegedly committing
drug related offences in the Asian country, has sent
a passionate appeal to President Goodluck
Jonathan to intervene and save him from
execution.
They suggested that Jonathan should use his good
offices to persuade his Chinese counterpart to
grant a presidential pardon to their son who is
said to be already on the death row waiting for
hangman’s noose
.
In a Save Our Soul, SOS message forwarded to
Jonathan by Daniel’s elder brother, Columbus, the
family said they believed that there would be no
other saving grace for Daniel except if President
Jonathan would mount pressure on his Chinese
counterpart to save his life.
The SOS which was accompanied by strongly
worded petition, further explained that Daniel was
so much loved and cherished by his mother and
as such she could not withstand any news that her
son was dead or has been executed by the
Chinese authorities, adding that his family
remained helpless as it was a case across
international borders.
According to the petition, “time is running out for
Daniel, a bonafide son of Anambra state of Nigeria
who is now facing death sentence in China over
alleged passport forgery and drug trafficking
offences”.
The SOS recalled that Daniel was arrested by the
Chinese security operatives in 2009 on allegation
of drug-related offences and was recently
sentenced to death in Guangzhou and is expected
to be hanged any moment from now, except if any
quick intervention could come from the presidency.
It was gathered that Daniel was arrested together
with three Chinese women for the alleged offences
as well as being an illegal immigrant in China.
His counsel in Gunagzhou, Mr Liu Shuhua was
quoted as saying that Asadu made a confessional
statement to the security agents in China that he
was the one that sent a Chinese girl to pick a bag
for him which was alleged to have contained items
and drugs inside it.
In a letter addressed to Daniels’s brother,
Columbus dated December, 28, 2009, Mr Shuhua
had disclosed that the case against Daniel was a
difficult one based on the fact that the convict had
confessed that he was the one that sent for the
bag suspected to have contained the substance
said to be hard drugs.
Daniel’s lawyer, according to the statement, said
that Daniel said he made the statement under
duress, having been forced by the Chinese police
to make it at gun-point. The lawyer had pleaded
with the judge to temper justice with mercy.
“I went to Haikou and checked all the files and
found out that for three times, Asadu confessed
that he instructed the girl to fetch the bags. And
this time, he asked the girl to carry the two bags
from four other persons now at large, said the
lawyer, adding, I also copied the recordings of the
messages between the girl and Asadu. I talked with
the judge and he told me that the case will be
decided on the evidence”.
The family protested that Daniel had been
condemned to death by the Chinese government
even as he was charged and tried in Chinese
language, arguing that he does not understand
Chinese language as to use it to defend himself.

The co-mastermind of the April 14 Nyanya Bus
terminal bombing of the Boko Haram sect which
claimed the lives of over 75 persons and caused
extensive damages to property while scores were
injured, Aminu Ogwuche, was on Tuesday
extradited from Sudan to Nigeria.
The fugitive Boko Haram member, who fled to
Sudan, immediately after the incident was brought
to the Presidential Wing of the Nnamdi Azikiwe
International Airpot, Abuja at about 3p.m. aboard a
chartered flight.
At the airport to take custody of the fugitive Boko
Haram member, was a team led by the Director of
Defence Information, Major General Chris
Olukolade, Coordinator of the National Information
Center, Mike Omeri, Force Public Relations officer,
ACP Frank Mba and Deputy Director, Department of
State Services (DSS), Marilyn Ogar.
It will be recalled that Ogwuche, son of a retired
Colonel of the Nigerian Army, who schooled in
Sudan, was declared wanted by the Federal
Government on May 15, shortly after the DSS
paraded some suspects in the connection with the
Nyanya bombing incident. Also declared wanted
was Abubakar Tsiga, the alleged chief mastermind
of the bombing.

THE academic board of Federal
Polytechnic, Oko in Anambra State yesterday
announced the withdrawal of the institution from
the ongoing national strike of Academic Staff Union
of Polytechnics, ASUP.
Meanwhile, the academic board and the governing
council of the institution have directed immediate
reopening of the polytechnic and resumption of
lectures with immediate effect.
Registrar of the polytechnic, Mr. Tony Nwaokolbia
directed students to return to school immediately,
adding that the suspended 2012/2013 second
semester examinations and lectures for fresh
students will commence on Monday, July 7, 2014.
Rising from the emergency meeting at Oko, the
academic board said that while it is in support of
the agitation of the unions, it had to put the fate of
students who had remained at home for almost
one year into consideration, adding that the
withdrawal from the strike was to enable students
write their second semester examinations and be
at par with students of other institutions.
A member of the board and dean of the School of
Engineering, Dr. Nsionu Ifeanyi, who addressed
reporters after the meeting of the board praised the
efforts of ASUP in putting up a good fight, noting
that their withdrawal was not to dissuade the union
from the struggle, but in consideration of the
students who have wasted a lot of time at home.
Ifeanyi said the management of the institution
would work out modalities for the examination
which, he stated, would commence as soon as
possible.
According to him, the academic board, which is the
highest decision making body of the polytechnic,
deliberated on the ongoing national strike of ASUP
and the fate of our students who have been at
home for nearly one year and decided to take the
decision.
He said: “While we are supporting the union’s
fight, we said it is important that we see what we
can do for our students to help them because they
have lost so many months. The board therefore
decided that the students be called back to write
their examinations and continue with lectures,
while we wait for the outcome of the engagement
of the union with government. We don’t want
them to fail in their demands. We only want to
bring ourselves at par with our colleagues in other
institutions.”
However, the national president of ASUP, Dr.
Chibuzor Asomugha, said in an interview that the
academic board was not competent to call off the
strike.
Asomugha said he was not aware that Oko
Polytechnic had withdrawn from the national strike.

Did Oscar Pistorius have time to think before he
shot and killed his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp last
year? That's the question that state prosecutor
Gerrie Nel dug into Thursday with a doctor who
has spent years working with the disabled athlete.
"His intention was to shoot, whoever he came
across -- if he came across anyone" in his home
on a February night last year, Nel put to the
doctor, Wayne Derman.
"I suppose if he came across an intruder or
danger, he would shoot," Derman responded.
And Pistorius was firing to kill, the prosecutor
said.
Derman, a defense witness, paused a long time
before he finally responded.
"He was aiming to neutralize the threat," the
doctor said.
Nel let those words hang in the air for a long
moment before announcing that he was done with
his questions for the day.
Pistorius, 27, is on trial for murder, and while he
admits firing the bullets that killed Steenkamp, he
pleaded not guilty. He says he mistakenly thought
he was defending himself from an intruder.
The prosecution says the two had an argument
and he deliberately murdered the model and law
school graduate, who was 29.
'Two Oscars'
Derman spent all day Thursday on the stand, first
testifying under defense questioning that Pistorius'
double amputation is key to understanding his
behavior.
Do not be taken in by the fact that Pistorius is one
of the fastest runners in the world -- remember he
is disabled, he argued.
Derman ran through a long list of the difficulties
that double amputees experience every day,
concluding: "The saddest thing I have learned
through my six years of working with athletes with
disability is that disability never sleeps.
"It's there when you go to sleep at night and it's
there when you wake up in the morning. It affects
nearly every aspect of your life," he said.
Pistorius' defense team seems to be trying to
establish that he acted reasonably, given who he
is, when he killed Steenkamp in the early hours of
Valentine's Day 2013.
Judge Thokozile Masipa must decide whether he
made a genuine mistake and, if so, whether the
mistake and his response were reasonable.
The South African Olympian's defense team has
been exploring his psychology this week.
His lawyer Kenny Oldwadge posited Thursday that
there were "two Oscars," one of whom was a
global sports star and one of whom was
"vulnerable" and "scared."
"I am stuffed without my legs on," his lawyer
quoted him as saying, using a slang term meaning
"in trouble."

Witness reliability

Prosecutor Nel went after Derman aggressively in
his cross-examination, exploring whether the
shooting was an instinctive "fight-or-flight"
response or the result of conscious thought.
The question of whether Pistorius is found guilty of
premeditated murder could hinge on the answer.
Exchanges between the two got testy, with Nel
trying to get the doctor to explain Pistorius'
actions moment by moment on the night he killed
Steenkamp.
Derman said it was impossible for him to answer
theoretical questions about what Pistorius might
have been thinking or doing at a given instant
because he, Derman, knew what had actually
happened after the moment in question.
Frustrated, he appealed to Judge Masipa, but she
sided with Nel, firmly instructing the witness to
answer his questions or say he didn't know.
Nel began his cross-examination by suggesting
that Derman was not a trustworthy witness
because he had a responsibility to Pistorius as his
doctor. Masipa rejected the objection.
The prosecutor kept up the attack, demanding to
know when Derman had made particular notes on
Pistorius, whether the court should believe
Derman or Pistorius when their evidence differed,
and the meaning of the word "subsequent."
Derman grew irritated with Nel when the
prosecutor responded: "That's not true" to a
statement Derman gave, and he appealed to the
judge that Nel was being "unprofessional."
Masipa agreed and ordered Nel to withdraw the
remark.
Nel, in turn, showed annoyance with Derman
asking which "incident" he was referring to.

"The killing!" Nel shouted back at him.
Suicide risk
The defense has been exploring Pistorius' mental
health for several days.
On Wednesday, his lead lawyer Barry Roux said
Pistorius is depressed, suffering from post-
traumatic stress disorder, and is a suicide risk,
according to the doctors who spent a month
evaluating his mental health.
But he does not appear to have a history of
abnormal aggression or psychopathic tendencies
linked to "rage-type murders in intimate relations,"
they found.
The conclusions are a "slam-dunk for the
defense," CNN legal expert Kelly Phelps said.
The psychiatric report seemed to suggest that
Pistorius' version of events was plausible.
"When Mr. Pistorius's appraisal of the situation is
that he might be physically threatened, a fear
response follows that might seem extraordinary
when viewed from the perspective of a normal
bodied person, but normal in the context of a
disabled person with his history," the doctors
found.
Several witnesses have testified that Pistorius
tends to arm himself and go toward danger, rather
than away from it, when he thinks he is under
threat.
At the trial's conclusion, Judge Masipa will have to
decide whether Pistorius, 27, genuinely made a
mistake or deliberately murdered his girlfriend.
If Masipa does not believe the athlete thought
there was an intruder, she will find him guilty of
murder and sentence him to a prison term ranging
from 15 years to life. South Africa does not have
the death penalty.
If Masipa accepts that Pistorius did not know that
Steenkamp was the person he was shooting at,
she could find him guilty of culpable homicide, a
lesser charge than murder, or acquit him,
according to CNN analyst Phelps.
A verdict of culpable homicide would leave the
sentence at Masipa's discretion.
The trial is scheduled to continue Monday for a
38th day.

year? That's the question that state prosecutor
Gerrie Nel dug into Thursday with a doctor who
has spent years working with the disabled athlete.
"His intention was to shoot, whoever he came
across -- if he came across anyone" in his home
on a February night last year, Nel put to the
doctor, Wayne Derman.
"I suppose if he came across an intruder or
danger, he would shoot," Derman responded.
And Pistorius was firing to kill, the prosecutor
said.
Derman, a defense witness, paused a long time
before he finally responded.
"He was aiming to neutralize the threat," the
doctor said.
Nel let those words hang in the air for a long
moment before announcing that he was done with
his questions for the day.
Pistorius, 27, is on trial for murder, and while he
admits firing the bullets that killed Steenkamp, he
pleaded not guilty. He says he mistakenly thought
he was defending himself from an intruder.
The prosecution says the two had an argument
and he deliberately murdered the model and law
school graduate, who was 29.
'Two Oscars'
Derman spent all day Thursday on the stand, first
testifying under defense questioning that Pistorius'
double amputation is key to understanding his
behavior.
Do not be taken in by the fact that Pistorius is one
of the fastest runners in the world -- remember he
is disabled, he argued.
Derman ran through a long list of the difficulties
that double amputees experience every day,
concluding: "The saddest thing I have learned
through my six years of working with athletes with
disability is that disability never sleeps.
"It's there when you go to sleep at night and it's
there when you wake up in the morning. It affects
nearly every aspect of your life," he said.
Pistorius' defense team seems to be trying to
establish that he acted reasonably, given who he
is, when he killed Steenkamp in the early hours of
Valentine's Day 2013.
Judge Thokozile Masipa must decide whether he
made a genuine mistake and, if so, whether the
mistake and his response were reasonable.
The South African Olympian's defense team has
been exploring his psychology this week.
His lawyer Kenny Oldwadge posited Thursday that
there were "two Oscars," one of whom was a
global sports star and one of whom was
"vulnerable" and "scared."
"I am stuffed without my legs on," his lawyer
quoted him as saying, using a slang term meaning
"in trouble."

Witness reliability

Prosecutor Nel went after Derman aggressively in
his cross-examination, exploring whether the
shooting was an instinctive "fight-or-flight"
response or the result of conscious thought.
The question of whether Pistorius is found guilty of
premeditated murder could hinge on the answer.
Exchanges between the two got testy, with Nel
trying to get the doctor to explain Pistorius'
actions moment by moment on the night he killed
Steenkamp.
Derman said it was impossible for him to answer
theoretical questions about what Pistorius might
have been thinking or doing at a given instant
because he, Derman, knew what had actually
happened after the moment in question.
Frustrated, he appealed to Judge Masipa, but she
sided with Nel, firmly instructing the witness to
answer his questions or say he didn't know.
Nel began his cross-examination by suggesting
that Derman was not a trustworthy witness
because he had a responsibility to Pistorius as his
doctor. Masipa rejected the objection.
The prosecutor kept up the attack, demanding to
know when Derman had made particular notes on
Pistorius, whether the court should believe
Derman or Pistorius when their evidence differed,
and the meaning of the word "subsequent."
Derman grew irritated with Nel when the
prosecutor responded: "That's not true" to a
statement Derman gave, and he appealed to the
judge that Nel was being "unprofessional."
Masipa agreed and ordered Nel to withdraw the
remark.
Nel, in turn, showed annoyance with Derman
asking which "incident" he was referring to.

"The killing!" Nel shouted back at him.
Suicide risk
The defense has been exploring Pistorius' mental
health for several days.
On Wednesday, his lead lawyer Barry Roux said
Pistorius is depressed, suffering from post-
traumatic stress disorder, and is a suicide risk,
according to the doctors who spent a month
evaluating his mental health.
But he does not appear to have a history of
abnormal aggression or psychopathic tendencies
linked to "rage-type murders in intimate relations,"
they found.
The conclusions are a "slam-dunk for the
defense," CNN legal expert Kelly Phelps said.
The psychiatric report seemed to suggest that
Pistorius' version of events was plausible.
"When Mr. Pistorius's appraisal of the situation is
that he might be physically threatened, a fear
response follows that might seem extraordinary
when viewed from the perspective of a normal
bodied person, but normal in the context of a
disabled person with his history," the doctors
found.
Several witnesses have testified that Pistorius
tends to arm himself and go toward danger, rather
than away from it, when he thinks he is under
threat.
At the trial's conclusion, Judge Masipa will have to
decide whether Pistorius, 27, genuinely made a
mistake or deliberately murdered his girlfriend.
If Masipa does not believe the athlete thought
there was an intruder, she will find him guilty of
murder and sentence him to a prison term ranging
from 15 years to life. South Africa does not have
the death penalty.
If Masipa accepts that Pistorius did not know that
Steenkamp was the person he was shooting at,
she could find him guilty of culpable homicide, a
lesser charge than murder, or acquit him,
according to CNN analyst Phelps.
A verdict of culpable homicide would leave the
sentence at Masipa's discretion.
The trial is scheduled to continue Monday for a
38th day.

Stephen Keshi’s denial about his resignation from
his role.
Keshi was widely reported to have resigned from
his role after Nigeria’s loss to France in the round

However, Keshi denied he has resigned yesterday
saying he bid his players farewell because his
contract will expire after the World cup and he

Babayaro known for his fearless stand on issues
described his denial as that of a confused man.

because he failed to convince me with his side of

he won’t address his players so fast, at least let
the pain of crashing out subside a little, and
maybe hear from the NFF bigwigs before telling his
players he might not continue like he claimed.
“To me he is looking for attention and maybe he is
at cross roads over to stay or leave, he appears
confused a bit as he loves Nigeria and his job.”

NFF hierarchy to address the issue of Keshi’s stay

Minna — There is uproar in Niger State following
an Executive Bill sent to the state House of
Assembly for the regulation of religious preachings
and establishment of places of worship.
At the public hearing held at the state House of
Assembly in Minna, the state capital, yesterday, all
the 16 religious leaders who spoke on the matter
vehemently opposed the establishment of the law.
According to them, the law would be contrary to
the 1999 Constitution which gives people the right
to expression, freedom to association and religion
as it is in Christianity and Islam.
Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria,
CAN, in the state, Rev. Musa Dada, said many of
his members were not adequately informed about
the bill as well as the public hearing.
CAN further said the passage of the bill would lead
to crisis instead of bringing religious harmony
among the people.

Also, Rev. Echioda Mathias, who also spoke in the
same vein, said the proposed Bill was not a child
of necessity, adding that it was a ploy to
contravene constitutional provisions through
curtailment of the freedom of worship by Christians
in the state.
He said: ”The provision of the proposed bill is a
direct provocation of not just the Nigerian
Constitution but also our Christian faith. It is our
dogged stand, prayers and wishes that this bill or
any other bill like this should never be proposed in
this state or country again, much less its
passage.”
He noted: ”We strongly submit without any doubt
of contradiction that the title of the bill is a
misnomer. The title is an irony of its purpose. The
CAN will never stand aloof to watch our
inspirational mode of worship and divine style and
places of worship or centres being regulated by
persons with little or no knowledge, inspiration
from God Almighty.”
Leader of the Ahalil Sunnah Jama’at, Mohammed
Usman also objected to the passage of the bill in
its ramification on the ground that it contravened
the Sharia law and the 1999 Constitution as
amended.
According to him, “the bill is in violation of the
Holy Koran. The bill is also in contradiction to the
provisions of 1999 Constitution. It goes against the
fundamental human rights. Our religious freedom
should not be abridged due to insurgency and
terrorism. We object entirely to the bill and pray
that Allah guides the nation as we pray for peace
and stability in the country.”
Also, Dalhat Abubakar Hakimi, who represented
Isalah Jos in the state, said there was no need for
the bill because both Christains and Muslims have
been relating well in the state.
He said rather than introducing a bill, government
should inaugurate a forum for religious leaders to
meet regularly and take a decisions that would
enhance peaceful coexistence in the state
Speaker of the Niger State House of Assembly, Mr
Adamu Usman, urged the two religious bodies to
see the bill not as an attempt to gag their religion
but to regulate the excesses of some religious
leaders.
”This bill is not a private bill but an executive bill.
It has nothing against Christianity or Islam, it is a
liberal bill. We do not have a predetermined mind.
If we do, we would not have been having this
sitting,” he said.

Femi Aribisala sounds like Nigeria’s Salman
Rushdie. It seems Mr Aribisala is having endless
sleepless nights over the person of Bola Tinubu
and indeed the emergence of APC as another big
political party in Nigeria. I believe that by standing
on the side of the voiceless since 1999 till date,
the duo of Buhari, Tinubu and other leaders of APC
deserve the accolade of well-meaning Nigerians —
George Kalu
ONE of the beauties of democracy is the latitude it
provides the citizens to freely express their views
on any subject under the sun. Such opinions are,
however, expected to be factual, informative, rich
and robust to raise the stake on political re-
engineering.
They should be thought-provoking; to ask the right
questions and make valuable suggestions in order
to proffer likely solutions to current social and
economic challenges. That, combined with the
active participation of the citizenry as the main
stakeholder in governance would serve to deepen
the democratic culture. But when opinions are
taken to ridiculous heights of over fixation on pull-
them-down syndrome, especially those whose
patriotic efforts have brought to bear the fruits of
such democracy, it calls for urgent concern.
In the light of this, therefore, one cannot but
question both the motive and morale of one Mr.
Femi Aribsala who has chosen to cast aspersions
and castigate every patriotic move Asiwaju Bola
Ahmed Tinubu has made to salvage the hole-
riddled ship of state from sinking under. The other
day, it was Aribisala and his tactless tirade over:
What does Bola Tinubu really want? Now, it is
another
self-serving vituperation over the unduly
orchestrated Muslim-Muslim presidential ticket for
the All Progressives Congress, APC. So sad,
Aribisala and those behind beating the drums for
him, think as if the people’s wishes and electoral
value count for nothing.
Let us consider this, from Aribisala’s jaundiced
viewpoint. “The prospect of a ticket with Tinubu as
vice-president is already ensuring that the APC is
badly in need of aspirin. An APC vice-president
that is not Tinubu poses grave political danger to
Tinubu. It means Tinubu has been sowing for
somebody else to reap. If that person happens to
be Yoruba, he or she could quickly become a
contender for Tinubu’s much-vaunted position as
the Asiwaju of South-West politics in Nigeria.”
If for anything else, by this statement alone
Aribisala has exposed his vain and vacuous
understanding of the political ideology, motivation
and persona of the famed tactician and political
strategist called Ahmed Tinubu. For the records,
he was the last progressive politician standing,
when the rigging machinery of the PDP bulldozed
its way through the South-West geo-political zone,
claiming in its dusty wake the states of Ogun, Oyo,
Osun, Ondo and Ekiti during the heady days of the
Chief Olusegun Obasanjo-led PDP.
Back then, when Tinubu and his allies met at the
residence of late Pa Adesanya in Apapa, Lagos to
review the rather crude onslaught of the anti-
democratic PDP, only Tinubu stood his ground;
maintaining that it was not in the best interest of
the Alliance for Democracy, AD or Nigeria not to
contest the outcome of the fraudulent elections.
Fraudulent elections
The PDP-led government had ensured that the
governorship elections were the first to be
conducted, with the obnoxious aim to use it
ostensibly to influence the outcome of subsequent
elections. And of course, to whip the so called
‘dissidents’ into line. Asiwaju it was who saw
through the smokescreen and stood his ground,
against the formidable reactionary forces.
With his unwavering moral support, candidates on
the platform of AD who contested for the posts in
the Senate, House of Representatives and various
state House of Assembly in the South-West were
able to clinch the desired victory and return to the
hallowed chambers to discharge their duty to their
people. Furthermore, Tinubu served again as the
catalyst who galvanized the progressives to
reclaim the lost states, such as Osun and Ekiti,
even including Ondo that was saved from the
clutches of the PDP and went to the Labour Party.
If Tinubu was a selfish politician, as Aribisala
imputes in his highly opinionated essay, he would
not have embarked on that messianic mission. All
he wanted, and still pursues with unrelenting
vigour is to ensure that indeed, the people’s votes
count. That their wishes hold sway. That their
choices are validated on the veritable platform of
credible elections, as against foisting the wishes of
a few greedy and self-serving politicians on the
majority.
It, therefore, amounts to a grave insult to insinuate
that Tinubu does not want another person to reap
from where he has sowed. He knows he is not
God, who has the power to determine who benefits
from what. That is pettiness from a warped
mindset. Perhaps, if Aribisala has an inkling of
those whose lives God has used theAsiwaju to
touch outside of politics he would not descend to
the low level of thinking that all there is to life is
money; or sowing and reaping. Until Nigerians
stop thinking of politics as an avenue for self-
aggrandizement instead of selfless service to the
state we would not make meaningful progress.
And that also underscores the penchant of
progressive parties for identifying the best of
candidates not just from the South-West geo-
political zone but across the Nigerian political
spectrum for public service. Unknown to the likes
of Aribisala, that clearly explains why Tinubu threw
his weight behind the candidature of Aminu
Tambuwal for the exalted position of Speaker,
House of Representatives as against Mulikat
Akande.
Tinubu saw in Tambuwal what was missing in
Akande, who would be a quisling in the hand of
PDP. That they share the same geo-political
heritage was immaterial and mere base sentiment.
The Yoruba race, well-known for political
sophistication would always project their best of
brains to the limelight.
Democratic norms
Now, Aribisala should ask himself in good
conscience what he would have done if he was in
Asiwaju’s shoes and there is an open threat to
democratic norms and values. Especially with
Dimeji Bankole, then the Speaker House of
Assembly promising Ekiti people that the military
would be used to win election in that state during
the controversial re-run governorship election in
2009. Would he have stood aloof, arms folded to
allow the monster of impunity to plunder the land?
The answer is his .
And that brings us to Aribisala’s gross
misunderstanding and misrepresentation of the
well-acclaimed victory of John Oyegun as against
his man, Tom Ikimi. Said he: “ Tinubu needed to
ensure that the APC chairman is not his new arch-
enemy, Tom Ikimi, a known Atiku Abubakar man.
So he shopped for a more malleable alternative.
He finally settled on John Odigie-Oyegun, former
governor of Edo State. But when the permutations
were done, Odigie-Oyegun could not be assured of
victory in a democratic poll. The answer, therefore,
in typical Asiwaju fashion, was to truncate
democracy in APC.”
Perception of political issues
Reading through this cheap assessment of a
credible election that had even the PDP
congratulating the APC makes mockery of
Aribisala’s perception of political issues. Firstly, he
has insulted the collective intelligence of other APC
stalwarts by claiming they are dummies who could
not choose between two candidates with clearly
well-defined antecedents and opposite character
traits. Secondly, and this is instructive, he has
inadvertently given Tinubu the power of a demi-
god before who others could never say “no”. That
scenario cannot play itself out under a democratic
dispensation, more so that of Nigeria’s vibrant
polity in the 21st Century.
May we remind Aribisala that Tom Ikimi was never
a democrat and even as an adept political
chameleon cannot metamorphose into one
overnight. What role did he play during the dark
days of the NADECO struggle to emancipate the
Nigerian nation and its good people from the iron
grip of military despotism? That of an ignoble anti-
democrat who chose to turn his back on the
people and became deaf to their cries of anguish
by dining with Abacha.
He, Ikimi it was again who practiced bolekaja
diplomacy in the face of a clear injustice that
triggered global outrage, when he openly
supported Abacha’s death sentence on Ken Saro-
Wiwa, acclaimed human rights activist and
internationally recognized environmentalist, and the
Ogoni-Four. No democrat would have justified and
defended that type of brutal, barbaric and bestial
murder of his people’s conscience and voice. For
Ikimi to have assumed that Nigerians have so
short a memory and would embrace his foray into
party politics without questions betrays his
understanding of the word, ‘democracy. And even
Aribisala has the moral burden of acting as a
megaphone to such a person.
‘Show me your friend and I would tell you who you
are.’Perhaps, Ikimi’s people understand him far
more than Aribisala does. For that reason they
elected Chief John Oyegun, as against Ikimi’s
candidate, Lucky Igbinedion, as their first-ever
democratically chosen state governor. And why
not? Oyegun has over the years remained a
consistent and committed democrat unlike Ikimi
who, more like an unprincipled politician pitches
his tent wherever he feels the grass is greener and
romances any government in power? Such a
person does not have any moral authority to put
himself forward for any elective post in the first
instance. Leadership goes far beyond that.
It is mixed milieu of one who has vision in
quantum; one with the capacity to feel the pulse
and the pains of his people; one who has the
courage to do right and the boldness to say ‘no’
to evil in all its shade; one with the compassion to
right the wrongs bedeviling his people. Fortunately,
Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu is blessed with all
these character traits.
Qualitative leadership
And as amply demonstrated during his struggles
for democracy, his eight years qualitative
leadership as the Lagos State governor, against all
odds he is eminently qualified to lead this nation
to greater heights. That he is from the South-West
or a Muslim should not matter, should it? Of
course not. What the citizens need at this critical
moment of our troubled history are men and
women who would frontally tackle the monsters of
corruption, mass youth unemployment, insecurity,
and the insidious culture of impunity to deliver the
dividends of democracy at their doorstep.
As George Kalu rightly admonished: “Let Aribisala
stop wasting his precious wisdom in producing
such acidic and derogatory articles. We already
know why he hates Tinubu with such passion and
why he derides APC”.What should matter most to
Nigerians now is quality leadership that
understands their pains; that has a sense of
direction and would salvage them from the clouds
of cluelessness and storms of selfishness to the
habour of our collective hope, for a better Nigeria.

When Afro-pop singer, Adokiye declared she was

another entertainer, Seyi Hunter has come out to
declare she is a virgin as well.

Relations’ graduate from the Olabisi Onabanjo
University, Ago-Iwoye, Ogun State, Seyi, born of an
Igbo father and Akwa-Ibom mother, started out her
career in the Yoruba sector and has since featured
in close to twenty films in both Yoruba and English
language movies.
In this interview with Showtime Celebrity, the
wave-making actress talks about her career,
passion, secrets and fears, among other issues:


When and how did you start acting professionally?


I started acting in 2011. I entered the industry
through Funsho Adeolu. I met him at a movie
location.j


What has been your experience since you started?
It’s been tough. But with God on my side, I’ve
been able to achieve a lot within the short period
I’ve been in the industry.

Which movies have you done?

Broken Fixtures, Pain, Many Days-One day, My
Club, MM Girls, Insanity, etc. the Yoruba movies
include Rukayat, Alenibare, etc.

Since you do both the Yoruba and English genre of
Nollywood movies, which would you say is better
and has been most favourable to you?

The English movies have been really favourable to
me. The three lead roles I’ve played are in English
movies. I usually play minor roles in the Yoruba
movies. If I were to assess both sectors, I’d say
they are both good and that’s why I’m doing both.

What challenges do you encounter as an upcoming
actress in the industry?

The truth is they don’t really pay us well as
upcoming actresses. Another challenge is getting
roles. Though for me, God has been faithful. When
I go to any location or for a production, I get
another job from that one. It’s as if one job gives
birth to another. So far, people I’ve met are people
who want to help me, who are willing to stick their
necks out for me. People like Collins Onwochei,
Chico Ejiro, Damijo Efe Young, Funsho Adeolu and
others.

What would you say is your selling point?

(Laughs) Look at me now. It’s not as if I’m so
endowed physically. I’m just one humble girl next
door. Favour is my selling point.

If you could change anything in the industry, what
would that be?

It’s the practice of not paying or appreciating new
actresses. They feel that because you’re upcoming,
they are doing you a favour by featuring you in the
movie. That’s one trend I’d like to change. I have
told myself that whatever production I do, everyone
must be paid as long as you worked on that set,
you should be paid for it. Besides that, I think
Nollywood has improved a lot.

What would you have been, if you weren’t an
actress?

I think probably a dancer. I used to dance and
then I stopped and started acting. So, I would have
been dancing or modelling if I wasn’t acting. I
love to entertain, so I would still be in the
entertainment industry. The truth is I’ve always
wanted to act, though I started as a dancer.

What’s your view on pornography in the industry?
So far I’ve not done any pornographic movie and
I’ve not gotten any pornographic script.

What if you were asked to, would you?

Let that time come first. When I get to that bridge,
I would cross it.

Can you go nude in a movie?

I can’t go stark nude in any movie. I can’t even
strip naked in front of any body.

Would you have sex in a movie?

We don’t have real sex in movies, it’s make-
believe, we don’t do the real thing. I can
kiss,smooch and touch. It’s my job, there’s
nothing to it and it ends there, it doesn’t go
beyond the camera.

Would you date a guy in the industry?

I can if I meet the right person.

How important is money to you when it comes to
your choice of man?

I’m not looking for a stinkingly rich man. If he has
all the money without good attributes, then he’s not
for me. I like humble people. So, he has to be
humble, God-fearing, extremely nice, very romantic
and loving.

Define your fashion style?

I’m just an ordinary person when it comes to
fashion. I wear things I’m comfortable in, I
don't follow trends. As long as it suits me and I’m
comfortable in it, I go with it.

Can you talk about the Children’s Day Party you
recently organised?

It was actually the brainchild of my company,
Hunter’s Media. It’s a partnership firm I run. I had
always wanted to do things for children because
my growing up wasn’t rosy.
I lost my dad at a very tender age, my mum was a
housewife and I had a lot of sibling. My adopted
baby sister died when she was just eleven months
old. It really affected me a lot because I practically
took care of her and she died in my arms after
being admitted in the hospital for three months.
That incident shook me a lot and I was just 15 at
the time. That was part of the motivation for the
Children’s Day Party. And I love children a lot.
This event is going to give birth to an NGO and we
will be organising it yearly for special kids. That
was the initial plan, but I’ve started making
enquiries on how to interact with special kids so
that I can relate with them without a third party.

Are you planning to go into movie production like
some of your colleagues are doing?

Yes, my media company is into film
production,documentary,rental of equipment,
modelling and photography. I’m presently taking a
photography course.

How do you unwind?

I’m basically an indoor person. I hardly go out, but
once in a while, my friends and colleagues drag
me out. I just like to read novels and watch
movies.

What was your childhood like?

My childhood was fun. I grew up in a
polygamous home. I had a lot of brothers and
sisters, so it was a full house. I grew up in
Surulere.

Educational Background?

My primary and secondary education were in
Surulere. Then, I had my university education at
the Olabisi Onabanjo University in Ogun State
where I studied Performing Arts.

Where do you hope to be in the nearest future?
I hope that my media company alongside my NGO
will grow bigger. I can’t even picture how big it is,
because it is bigger than my imagination. I hope to
see myself at the top soonest, by God’s grace.

Who in the industry do you hope to be like?

My name is Seyi Hunter. There’s only one me, so
I want to be me. I admire my colleagues, they are
good and beautiful. They are super role models
and I love them.

Which top actors have you worked with?

I’ve worked with Tonto Dike, Mercy Aigbe, Toyin
Aimakun, Funsho Adeolu, Collins Onwochei and
others.

What was your first time on set like?

The movie was a Yoruba movie, Aromodomo. It
was shot in Ibadan. I was a bit nervous at first and
Funsho Adeolu was the one who encouraged me.
He told me to imagine I was in a theatre hall about
to have a stage play with my colleagues. That was
how I was able to flow.

What’s the most challenging role you’ve played so
far?

Broken Fixtures, where I had to kiss and romance.
The role I played in My Club was also challenging

Arequiem mass organised for the late Socrates of
the Supreme Court, Justice Chukwudifu Oputa at
his country home in Oguta Local Government Area
of Imo State was disrupted yesterday, when the
first son of the former erudite judge, Charles Oputa,
a.k.a Charley Boy prevented Governor Rochas
Okorocha from paying tribute to his father.
Eye witnesses said that the mass which was
conducted by the Catholic Bishop of Sokoto
Diocese, Rt Rev. Matthew Hassan Kukah at the
Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Oguta, went on
smoothly until Okorocha was permitted by the
Bishop to pay his tribute to the fallen judge.
However, Chief Okorocha, was stopped midway into
his speech, by Charley Boy who was visibly
infruiated with Kukah for granting the governor the
permission to speak. He walked up angrily to the
altar and snatched the micro-phone from the
governor, to the embarrassment of all the
dignitaries present. It was a disgrace to the
governor.
Among eminent Nigerians present at the church
service included representative of President
Goodluck Jonathan, the Secretary to the
Government of the Federation, Senator Anyim Pius
Anyim, Governors Willie Obiano (Anambra),
Theodore Orji (Abia); the Deputy Speaker of the
House of Representatives, Chief Emeka Ihedioha
and former governors of Anambra State, Senator
Chris Ngige and Mr Peter Obi respectively.
Also present, were the former governor of Imo
State, Ikedi Ohakim,, Senator Uche Chukwumerije
and the Minister of Labour, Chief Emeka Wogu, the
state Police Commsiioner, Almajid Ali and the
Divisional Police Officer, DPO, for Oguta,
Ikembuchukwu Abugu.
The intervention of Bishop Kukah could not
assuage Charly Boy’s anger as he insisted that no
politician would take advantage of his father’s
burial to score “cheap political” goals. He insisted
that the Governor should not speak at the event.
However, obviously embarrassed by Charley Boy’s
action, the Governor and members his entourage
hurriedly left the church service mid -way, despite
entreaties from the officiating Bishop Kuka for them
to stay on.
It was gathered that Charly Boy’s action followed a
recent statement by Government House, Owerri, to
the effect that the Oputa family was given N20
million to assist it in the burial arrangements.
Sources told Saturday Vanguard, however, that
“the family never received a dime from either
Okorocha or the state government, not to talk of
the alleged N20 million said to have been made
available to them,’’ as reported by a section of the
media.
Earlier in his sermon, Bishop who lauded the
virtues of Justice Oputa, stressed that “to tolerate a
son like Charley Boy by a man of late Justice
Oputa’s reputation, is a measure of the greatness
of the man.”
He called on Nigerians to stand up in defence of
justice and equity, adding that late Oputa had
serious liking for the concept of justice and equity
during his life time.
”Oputa before he died, was worried about the
quality of Nigerian lawyers and judges because he
believed in the judiciary as the last hope of the
nation. Today, his legacies are beyond his
immediate family,” Bishop Kuka said
Meanwhile, the state government has described the
incident that played out at Sacred Heart Catholic
Church, Oguta, as “ugly and regrettable.”
According to a statement by the Seniour Special
Assistant, SSA, Media, to Governor Okorocha, Mr
Sam Onwuemodo, “It is highly regrettable that the
son of the late Justice, Mr Charles Emeka Oputa,
aka, Charly Boy, threw caution to the wind and
turned the church service into a political theatre
that saw him acting or playing out the script he
drafted in Abuja with some Imo politicians, who
have remained cowed by the overwhelming
popularity of Governor Rochas Okorocha.”
Onwuemeodo insisted that the state government
made “substantial financial input and also
organized a special day of tributes for the late
Justice Oputa at the expense of state government
with Charly Boy also present with other members
of the family.
”We condemn that ugly incident and also wish to
advise politicians from the state to stop heating up
the polity over power since God is the giver of
power. In 2015, God will decide who will be
governor of Imo State and when God decides that,
there is nothing anybody can do about it.” He did

President Goodluck Jonathan has reiterated his determination to bring back the more than 200 Chibok school girls saying that his silence in the past was to avoid compromising investigations on the abductions.

In a 514 word opinion piece article published in yesterday’s edition of the Washington Post, President Jonathan regretted that his silence on
the issue has been misconstrued by critics as a sign of weakness as he confessed that as a father, he was touched by the feelings of the parents of the abducted girls.

In the article titled “Nothing is more important than bringing home Nigeria’s missing girls” the president said that the terrorism in Nigeria is not unique and that it was in that respect that Nigeria this month, alongside, Benin, Cameroon, Chad, Niger, Britain and the United States established an External Intelligence Response Unit to share security information on such threats in West Africa.

He added that he would, in September, propose to the United Nations to establish an international force to tackle the activities of such terrorists anywhere there are found.

Saying he was not weak on the issue as portrayed, Jonathan said: “I have had to remain quiet about the continuing efforts by Nigeria’s military, police and investigators to find the girls kidnapped in April from the town of Chibok by the terrorist group Boko Haram. I am deeply concerned, however, that my silence as we work to accomplish the task at hand is being misused by partisan critics to suggest inaction or even weakness.”

“My silence has been necessary to avoid compromising the details of our investigation. But let me state this unequivocally: My government
and our security and intelligence services have spared no resources, have not stopped and will not stop until the girls are returned home and the
thugs who took them are brought to justice.

On my orders, our forces have aggressively sought these killers in the forests of northern Borno state, where they are based. They are fully committed to defending the integrity of their country.”

“My heart aches for the missing children and their families. I am a parent myself, and I know how awfully this must hurt. Nothing is more important to me than finding and rescuing our girls.”
