Amari was a staff of Abuja Park "N" Pay. He was working under SureP and was designed to the Jabi Lake where the incident happened. He said his initial offence was his inability to get to an army officer who called him from a distance within 5 seconds. He claimed that it was while they were beating him that the lady asked him if he was beautiful...and when he answered in the affirmative, another round of beating started. He said he sustained various degrees of injuries from the assault. The cadets that did this are yet to be punished...

It was a disappointing weekend for workers in Ekiti State as the state government on Thursday withdrew two months’ salaries already paid into their bank accounts.

This was as teachers in the state declared a two-day warning strike over the refusal of Governor Ayodele Fayose to pay their September 2014 salary arrears and 2014 leave bonuses.

The state chairman of the Nigerian Union of Teachers, Samuel Akosile, told our correspondent that the union would consider the next step to take at the expiration of the warning strike beginning today (Monday).

Workers, mainly civil servants in the state had last week received alerts from their banks that their salaries for November and December 2015 had been paid into their accounts.

The workers were, however, in for a shock as the salaries were quietly withdrawn from their accounts without reasons from the banks.

Expressing his frustration to our correspondent, a civil servant who simply identified himself as Akindele, said, “I had gone to the bank on Friday to withdraw money from the Automated Teller Machine but was disappointed when there was no money in my account. On enquiry, I was told that the government had instructed banks to recall payment.”

But the government has blamed the error on the service providers.

Speaking with our correspondent on Sunday, the Commissioner for Information, Mr. Lanre Ogunsuyi, said the government had no intention to embarrass any worker, adding that the issue was being looked into.

“The error is from the service provider and it has been rectified,” he said.

But many workers had gone to the bank to withdraw the money before the government could start removing the money from their accounts.

Ogunsuyi, however, added that the government was looking into the case of those who might have withdrawn their money and “appropriate action would be taken after due consideration.”

However, the All Progressives Congress, has slammed Fayose for crediting workers’ accounts with their salaries only to withdraw the money after “a heavy media hype.”

The party in a statement on Sunday by the state Publicity Secretary, Taiwo Olatunbosun, accused the governor of fraudulent conduct to sustain his grip on the “thoroughly abused” people of Ekiti people.

He said, “This is not the first time the governor is doing this to workers. He did it to primary school teachers last year when he learnt that they were to embark on a strike. That is what he did last week after learning of the strike plan by teachers after they refused to help him in a solidarity rally to save him from Ekitigate probe.”

“The governor that said the state was broke suddenly paid two months’ salaries after learning that the teachers were bent on embarking on a protest over his failure to pay their salary arrears, even though he quickly reversed a month salary from their accounts after workers were celebrating payment of two months arrears.”

But debunking the allegations, the Chief Press Secretary to Fayose, Idowu Adelusi, in a statement said labour had not been kept in the dark in the running of the government.

He blamed former governor Kayode Fayemi for the inability to pay workers.

“Is it not the mess left behind by the Fayemi’s administration that is causing problem for Fayose’s government? Nine hundred and fifty million naira is deducted monthly by those who Fayemi administration took loan from. If N950m is added to N1.3bn that came last month, it will go a long way for Fayose administration to meet financial obligations,” Adelusi said.

The former military governor would be 80 years on Monday, 9th February 2016. Though the Johnson family is yet to disclose what caused late Funmi Johnson's death, there are indications that she died after a brief illness in a Lagos hospital. Since the news of her death broke, family members and eminent Nigerians have been trooping daily to the Ilupeju, Lagos residence of the Johnsons. Among early visitors at the home of the Johnsons was first executive governor of Lagos state, Alhaji Lateef Jakande.

Indications emerged at the weekend of fresh moves to oust the Senate President, Dr Bukola Saraki as Chairman of the National Assembly and the country’s number three citizen, following the Supreme Court judgement, which held on Friday that his trial over alleged falsification of assets declaration while holding sway as governor of Kwara State in 2003 by the Code of Conduct Tribunal, CCT, should continue.

The Supreme Court dismissed an appeal filed by Dr Saraki, challenging the validity of his trial on charges of assets declaration preferred against him at the CCT, holding that Saraki’s ground for challenging the trial lacked merit.

A highly placed source in the office of the National Legal Adviser of the All Progressives Congress, APC told Nigerian Pilot that, following the judgement on Friday that the Senate President should face his trial at the CCT, the hierarchy of the party has reportedly asked the legal adviser to assist the party with professional legal opinion on the likely scenario that would follow, including resignation and impeachment options against the embattled Senate President.

He said that the party is worried because of the criminal charges which Saraki is facing before the CCT. Already, the Senate Unity Forum, headed by Senator Ahmed Lawan are said have perfected the plot for the removal of embattled Saraki, following the verdict of the apex court.

Spokesman of the SUF, Senator Kabir Marafa during the weekend told journalists that the honourable thing for the senate president to do is to resign his seat in other not be disgraced. In the same vein, a highly placed source at the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, also told Nigerian Pilot the acting Chairman of the commission has ordered the review of the case file of the senate president on allegations bordering on corruption, money laundering and fraud.

According to the EFCC source, both Saraki and his wife, Toyin’s case files are currently undergoing what he described as ‘discrete scrutiny’. He further added that as soon as the legal department of the commission gives its final legal opinion on the outcome of the preliminary investigations, if found wanting, he will be called for interactions.

Efforts by our correspondent to reach the spokesman of the EFCC, Mr. Wilson Uwujaren to react on the development proved abortive as both his MTN and GLO lines could not get through.. A seven-man panel of the apex court presided over by the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Mahmud Mohammed, ha unanimously held on Friday that Saraki’s appeal against the jurisdiction of the trial and competence of the charges, lacked merit.

Justice Walter Onnoghen, who read the lead judgment, held that contrary to Saraki’s contention, the Danladi Umar-led Code of Conduct Tribunal was validly constituted by two members. Justice Onnoghen also held that the tribunal was by the provisions of its enabling laws and the Constitution, conferred with the quasi-criminal jurisdiction and thus could validly issue bench warrant. He thus held that the Administration of Criminal Justice Act 2015 was applicable to the proceedings of the tribunal.

He dismissed the allegation by Saraki that he was not properly served with the charges and also held that the charges filed before the CCT before the appointment of the Attorney-General of the Federation were valid. He also noted that there was an attempt by Saraki to intimidate the ‎CCT by claiming that it disobeyed the order of a Federal High Court barring it from continuing with the proceedings pending the determination of a suit filed by the Senate President to challenge the trial. “I have looked at the records, there is nowhere such orders was made,” Justice Onnoghen ruled.

The CJN and other Justices on the panel agreed with the judgment. The rest of the panel members who consented are Justices Tanko Muhammad, Sylvester Ngwuta, Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, Chima Nweze and Amiru Sanusi. After the judgment, an army of political associates, who attended the proceedings walked out of the court quietly. Following the Supreme Court judgment, it is expected that the CCT will soon issue hearing notice for the continuation of the Senate President’s trial on three counts of false assets declaration.

No fewer than 30 male passengers died in the Adeosun area of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway on Sunday after a trailer conveying them tumbled down the road.

Over 50 other people sustained varying degrees of injuries in the crash, while two rams were killed.

The accident occurred on the portion of the expressway which had been recently reconstructed.

Our correspondents counted 25 corpses at the scene of the accident. Eyewitnesses said about five corpses had been taken to a mortuary.

Other victims of the accident, which occurred around 7am, were not removed until past 9am.

A victim, who lost two relatives, covered the faces of the deceased with clothes and broke down in tears.

Shouting the name of Allah as he wailed, the victim identified simply as Mohammed, refused all entreaties as he knelt down between the two corpses and wept bitterly.

One of the survivors of the accident, who gave his name as Mohammed Seripino, said the trailer was coming from Kaduna and had travelled all night.

He said each passenger paid N1,000 as transport fare, adding that the journey from Kaduna was smooth before the accident occurred.

“We are all Hausa. We were coming from Kaduna. Each passenger paid N1,000. This (accident) is not good,” he said.

An eyewitness, who gave his name as Yinka Dada, said he was seeing off his son, who was on his way to Lagos, when the accident occurred.

He said, “I saw everything. I was by the roadside when the accident occurred. I was with my son who was going to Lagos when I saw two vehicles speeding as if they were competing in a race.

“The other vehicle was able to control the wheel, while the driver of the trailer lost control, tumbled down the expressway, and spilled out the passengers one after another.”

Officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps at the Ibadan Tollgate Unit, who came for rescue operation, refused to talk to our correspondents.

“We cannot talk to you now. I am not the boss here. I have bosses who can talk to you later if you come to our unit at the tollgate. You can see we are busy now,” an official told one of our correspondents.

A police patrol van with two officials also visited the scene.

One of the policemen in the van told those with minor injuries to help those with critical injuries into the police van.

However, some sympathisers said the responses of both the police and the officials of the FRSC were poor, and began to rain curses on Nigeria’s political class.

An Electrical Engineering student of the Abdul Gusau Polytechnic, Zamfara, who did not disclose his name, said government should be blamed for the poor response to the plight of the victims.

The student said, “Our leaders have embezzled all the money that should be used to put infrastructure in place. This is why people are dying like rats.”

A middle-aged man, Onyekachi Otuonye, lamented rescuers’ response time to the accident.

Otuonye said, “This is deplorable. Even slaves should not be treated like this. Human lives should be treated with respect and dignity.”

A man in a cleric robe, who attributed the accident to witches and wizards, was shouted down by some sympathisers.

When the man brought out a book of his predictions on the accident that would occur on the road in 2016, sympathisers warned him to stop, saying there were no witches on the road.

One of the sympathisers, Biliaminu Awodele, who confronted the cleric, said, “Accidents happen all over the world, nobody dey blame witches and wizards, abeg, carry your yeye prediction commot here!”

However, the FRSC said 17 people died in the accident, while 79 others were injured.

The Oyo State Sector Commander, FRSC, Yusuf Salami, said the accident involved an articulated vehicle and a Peugeot J5 vehicle.

He explained that both vehicles were travelling to Lagos, adding that the accident was caused by impatience, speeding and struggle for right of way.

He said, “A Peugeot J5 with number plate, XS 626 LSV, and a DAF articulated vehicle with number plate, AA 902 MML, had an accident as both drivers were struggling for the right of the way. They were both going to Lagos when the accident happened around 9.30am on Sunday. It happened just before the campus of the Dominion University in Sepo, on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

“There were 96 people involved, with 17 confirmed dead. It is obvious that both drivers were speeding and suddenly lost control of the vehicles. The Peugeot bus was loaded with passengers and goods, but the casualty figure rose because the other vehicle was travelling to Lagos with huge number of illegal passengers.”

It would have been a different tale of tragedy after a scrap trailer fell on vehicles in the early hours of today around 6:15 a.m at Oja bus stop, Ogijo after Ikorodu. Emergency officials were alerted about the incident as they immediately swooped in to save the people trapped in the commercial bus. The prompt intervention saved the situation and no one died in the incident.

According to Daily Sun SA,. This man named, Million Gume swims in a river full of crocodile everyday. He is not afraid because according to him, once he flashes his naked bum at the crocodiles, they go away. He calls it bum swimming.

"I’m the king of the bum swim," he laughs and demonstrates by diving into the water and sticking his naked bum in the air.


The 30-year-old from Mhinga Village in Malamulele, Limpopo said he’s been swimming in the Luvuvhu River for five years. The rivers in the area are known to have many crocodiles and many locals have lost their lives in the dark water.

"The crocodiles are scared of me! When I jump into the water and realise that the crocodiles want to attack me, I just show them my bum and they move away. I then carry on with my famous bum swim." he told Daily Sun.



He said people who come to the river enjoy watching him. On Wednesday afternoon the SunTeam saw Million playing in the river. He floated with his head and upper body underwater like a drowned person. He then disappeared under the water and after a short-time only his bum appeared. George Matiyani, headman of the Mhinga Tribal Authority, said Million must watch out.

"The crocodiles aren’t scared of his bum. They will drag his bum into the deep waters and chew him up," he said.

Matiyani warned the kids to stay away from the dangerous rivers in the village.
He said the crocodiles often kill people.

"The most recent victim was fisherman Thinashe Hove, who was attacked on 24 January. And the body of a 45-year-old man who was killed last month hasn’t been found yet."

In 2010 9ice released a song that made a lot of people wrongfully drag me into a terrible situation. People who miscontrued the song and it created a rumour .

A terrible false rumour that was fueled by journalists and bloggers who were only after hits on their sites.Bloggers and journalists who did not care to investigate and confirm a rumour,but chose to print and post it anyways not caring who got hurt in the process.

I remember pleading my innocence and that of Toni Paynes but social media people being who and how they are,chose not to listen.

I remember calling 9ice on the phone CIA style to talk to him about it and he was clearly heard admitting the song was not about myself or Toni Payne, but social media people being who and how they are, chose not to listen.

I remember asking 9ice to publicly clear the air on the terrible rumour,but was shocked when my friend said he would not because he was busy and didn't have time for such. Again nobody wondered why.

Fast forward 2016. six years later and I was surprised when i heard that 9ice has finally come out to say i never slept with his wife and the song was not about me and even apologised on top.That he has finally come out to say the truth about the issue that cast a negative shadow over my head and that of his ex wife for six years.

All i can do is smile because I know me better than anybody out there who insulted me over the matter. I said it then and i say it now, Michael Ugochukwu Stephens will never sleep with his friends wife.

Families and husbands you can now relax. Your daughters and wives are safe around me hahahahaha!!

To 9ice, bro you left it a bit too late. You had your chance to clear this matter up 6 years ago when it really mattered but you did not take it. I do not know why and exactly what it was that made you keep quiet all that while. I did my best to clear my name without you and moved have moved on since.

Anyways I accept your apology and thank God we are all alive.
