Hmmm! Word! I really appreciate your advice. God bless you sir. EgunMogaji2: In hospice setting (people that are dying) the most common things they say is they wish they could have done this or done that.
Even if you have children, Gbadexy here an set you up with quality white paint in specific areas that can be cleaned.
We just have a disastrous maintenance culture in Nigeria. House painting/touch ups are part of a routine home maintenance item. |

Oh! I get it. My wife and I are still young couples and don't have kids yet. Lol. I want to use satin which I hope would take care of the stains. kalu61: White to me is a senior colour and the look is always cool and mature. However, your kids must have been off age if not, be ready to repaint often especially parlour and passages. |

Wow! Lovely. Thank you so much. I love pure/brilliant white and I am going for it. Thank you. EgunMogaji2: Please follow your heart. It's your house and not people/friends house.
My house is pure white, inside and outside. Any people/friends that don't like it don't have to visit. |

Wow! Thank you sir. KelvinCoaster: I suggest you use what you personally want and that is 'white paint'.
Your POP and wall can be pure white all through, then you get your contrast from a dark curtain and upholstery. |

Good morning helpers/professionals/advisors,
I wish to paint the interior white but people/friends are discouraging me against brilliant/pure white. They are suggesting I should use off white. So that the pop and wall won't be pure white all through.
I personally want white, please is there a off white color that still looks like white. I want a beautiful white for the walls please. I need suggestions.
Thanks in advance. |

The truth is, I never knew God will answer my prayers and grant my wish. Doing German flooring was something I couldn't afford then. So, I just wanted to build the house by cutting my coat according to my size. But after raising the building God answered my prayers and not doing a German flooring is something I am sad about now. dangoteinlaw: And if I may, why didn't you do a German flooring? |
Properties › Re: General Topic Thread-To Discuss Anything And Everything in Building Construction by henrymor: 10:02am On Feb 04, 2022 |
Yes are are works involved hitting and breaking if some areas in the house. Plus, some cracks comes from the blocked windows and some come from the ground up. Aforxzy: Is there any work that involves hitting, breaking or vibration on your build? The crack could be as a result of these or more...
Even though the picture is not extensive enough, it doesn't look like a structural issue.. Let your mason break open the affected areas and redress them. |
Properties › Re: General Topic Thread-To Discuss Anything And Everything in Building Construction by henrymor: 9:59am On Feb 04, 2022 |
Thank you for your advice. It is a bungalow. No we didn't do German flooring. We did chain lintel. Most of the cracks are coming from down and going up although some are start at the middle. I also noticed that some of the cracks are from the windows we blocked. diordaves: Though the photos are not enough but if you have similar cracks in other parts of the house, this might be structural. Is that a window in the photo? if yes, I suspect your lintel has failed. Did you do "chain lintel"? Lintels are only very effective at a determined length. If too short, the lintel will fail with time leading to cracks.
Another suspect is your foundation in relation to the type of soil. It could be differential settlement/subsidence.
Did you do german floor? or is it a storey building and the cracks are upstairs? If yes, I will go back to the guess of possibly failed lintel. If it is a bungalow or even a storey building, are the cracks going right down to the ground? If yes, possibly foundation settlement.
Then it could be just cosmetic. The cracks could just be historical during the settlement of the building. It may not crack further. Note, all buildings will settle but not dangerously unequally.
Solution: remove the plaster work down to the blocks. If the blocks are not cracked, it is cosmetic. If the blocks are significantly cracked as well, you have a problem on your hand that needs solving urgently. Seek the professional advice of a Structural engineer. It is imperative to seek the services of a Structural Engineer if it is a storey building. But for a bungalow........................ well, if you are not an experience Baba/Madam Landlord, get a Structural Engineer. |

If it's a storey building let the height be same height of your building.. |

Thank you so much. Actually I haven't found out the cost of a normal one. What do you think about going for the block one or iron stand? diordaves: I will "close eye" and do the 14ft. But that's me. What about you?
I suggest YOU should go about it this way: find the marginal cost. Find marginal cost ke? Jamb question. The thing simple.
We know that the cost of the 14ft is 280k.
So what is the cost of the "normal stand" ?
So what is the difference between the 14ft and the normal? And then weigh this against the cost of the pressure pump, installation cost and electricity running cost over the lifetime of the pressure pump. If the cost is equal to 280k, jejely do the 14ft. It is cheaper over the lifetime of the project.
For example if the difference between the 14ft and normal stand is 100k and the pressure pump and installation cost is 80k, you are not saving anything. The 14ft is cheaper. |

Wow! Thanks for this advice. We used the thickest pipes for the interior. I would have gone for the 280k stand but my budget is very tight and we need to complete the remaining areas of the project and pack there by month end. If using the normal height with pressure pump will work for me as suggested by the other excellent advisers I think I should follow it. Or what do you suggest? rotecch77: Two things are involved here. You want good pressure and you are in tight budget
Follow this step. Lesser cost of scaffolding at around 150-200k for 10ft or so Add cost of pressure pump @ 35-45k Add ruining cost per year let’s say 12k Total around 265k or so then you have good pressure
Disadvantages -No light no pressure -Substandard plumbing work will result to Leakages -running cost of the pump ( repair, nepa bill) Advantages Good pressure Lesser time to filled up any container or bathing time.
Good hight like 14ft as suggested cost 280k Advantages -Zero running cost -One time cost ( construction cost) -nearly zero fear of plumbing issue
I will advise you to go for 280k one time spent at 14ft with 0.1-0.5bar water pressure is adequate for you.
Unless you have good plumbing work from beginning then you can think of pressure pump. |

Thank you very much. I appreciate you. hslbroker2: Do the normal height and use a pressure pump the best for you sir. Follow this advice you won't regret. |

Thank you very much sir. I used the thickest pipes throughout so I can't have speaking problem if I use the pump . What is the normal hight please? topsy23: Use a pressure or booster pump to have good pressure BUT your plumber need to confirm that quality pipes are used for the internal water supply line |

Good afternoon my amazing people.
Thank you for always providing us with helpful advice.
Please, I need advice about a water tank stand. I have power showers in my house and the plumber suggested that I should make the stand 14ft because of pressure.
When I contacted my welder he said it will cost me 280k to get it done. The issue is I don't plan to spend that huge amount on a storex stand.
When I asked around, some people said I should use the normal height and use a pressure pump.
Please, what do you suggest I do to cut cost and still achieve enough pressure and water stand durability.
Thanks |
