TV/MoviesBbnaija: Erica Will Lose That N85m, Father Mbaka Says As He Hails Laycon (video) by HenryQuest(op): 6:39pm On Sep 06, 2020
The Spiritual Director of the Adoration Ministry Enugu, Rev. Fr. Ejike Mbaka has reacted to the feud between Erica and Laycon in the Big Brother Naija house.

VANTAGE NEWS had reported that Erica went haywire after Saturday night’s party where she lashed unto housemates most especially Laycon whom she rained all manner of abuses on. Laycon did not say a word as Erica raged on to pour her anger on him for saying she tried to kiss him on three occasions.

Reacting to that particular incident while preaching at the Adoration ground on Sunday, Fr. Mbaka condemned Erica for her behaviour towards Laycon and commended Laycon for remaining silent in the heat.

Mbaka was seen making the comments in a video sent to VANTAGE NEWS by a Facebook user Clarine Simon-okeke, who was present at the ground.

The clergyman said, “Look at what she was calling the other young man, ‘idiot’, ‘you are an idiot’ and the whole world was watching. And the person she was calling idiot gets more votes than all of them, the boy did not even respond to her. Look at Erica with all her beauty and all her beautiful dances, then look at her in the next ten minutes, she becomes cantankerous and pugnacious and in her cantakerousity and pugnacity, she will lose that 85 million”.

SportsFormer Nigerian Goalkeeper Dies by HenryQuest(op): 12:26pm On Aug 31, 2020
The Nigerian Football Federation (NFF), on Monday, announced the passing away of a former national Under-17 and Under-20 goalkeeper, John Felagha.

The Aspire Soccer Academy graduate was part of the 2013 Nigeria Under-20 team.

He died on Sunday, June 30 in Senegal.

NFF, through it’s official twitter handle, wrote, “Former National U17 and U20 goal keeper John Felagha has died. Felagha died on Sunday in Senegal. He was aged 26. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family.”

Felagha, who started his career at Qatar’s Aspire Academy, was highly rated in the coach John Obuh-led Nigeria Under-17 team for the 2009 Under-17 World Cup hosted by Nigeria but he fell into third in the pecking order of goalkeepers when the tournament proper started, failing to make a single appearance. Nigeria went on to win Silver after losing to Switzerland in the final game.

He was also part of 2013 FIFA U-20 World cup but failed to play a single match in the tournament also.

He later joined Belgian side KAC Eupen in 2013 where he made only two appearances

Felagha has since kept a low profile.

CrimeEFCC Denies Involvement In ‘stop And Search’ Operation Along Lekki Axis by HenryQuest(op): 9:06pm On Aug 19, 2020
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has vehemently denied accusation that some of its operatives were involved in a ‘stop and search’ exercise around Lekki axis in Lagos.

In a statement released Wednesday night and signed by Dele Oyewale Head, Media & Publicity, the EFCC said that the commission does not engage in traffic management operations on Nigerian roads.

Some members of the public had alleged that some operatives of the commission were seen on the road, around Lekki axis in Lagos, doing the job of traffic management officials and extorting road users.

The statement reads, “The attention of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has been drawn to some spurious news circulating in the social media, linking its Operatives with some contrived “Stop and Search” operations around Lekki axis of Lagos State.

“We wish to state very clearly that our Operatives were not and can never be involved in such operations.

“Members of the public are enjoined to ignore such insinuations. EFCC is a professional law enforcement agency and should not be linked with any traffic management operation on our roads.

PoliticsI Believe Obaseki Will Win, Fayose Replies Bode George by HenryQuest(op): 9:48pm On Aug 13, 2020
Former Ekiti state governor, Ayodele Fayose has responded to Bode George who blasted him over comments he made stating that he does not support the candidacy of Godwin Obaseki as the People’s Democratic Party’s (PDP) flagbearer in Edo state election.

Fayose, had earlier in an interview on Plustv Africa, said that despite being a PDP member, he will not support Governor Obaseki’s re-election bid.

The comment did not go down well with former Deputy National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Chief Olabode George, who blasted Fayose, saying, “I find it completely unacceptable. How can a committed member who has benefited immensely from the party pitch his tenth against our own candidate in Edo State? “I am countering such remarks by telling the people of Edo State that we, members of the PDP in the South-West, that we are in support of Obaseki. We pray for him and we will work and support him to win the election. “PDP in the South-West and I dissociate ourselves from Fayose’s statement. He is on his own because we do not know where that is coming from.”

Fayose, on Thursday night in a series of tweet expressed his displeasure over the comments made by Bode George. He stated that Bode George misunderstood his stand on the Edo election, and advised him to take a rest.

“I just read the response of Chief Bode George to his understanding of what I said concerning the Edo State election. Even though I won’t like to dignify him with a response, it is important that I set the records straight because it appears that he may have deliberately read different meanings to what Political gains he wants to make out of it and I careless. My position is that, for obvious reasons, I am not a fan of both Gov Obaseki and Oshiomhole” he said.

Fayose however clarified his stand by stating that although he believes Obaseki will win the election, he (Obaseki) should stick to his agreement of not returning to the APC afterwards.

He said, “That notwithstanding, I believe that Obaseki will win, but he should honour his agreement with the PDP by not returning to APC after assuming office for the second term for flimsy excuses.”

Fayose made it clear that his comments are his personal opinion and does not reflect the views of PDP as a party.

“It is equally important for Chief Bode George to know that I am not the mouthpiece of South West PDP. I speak for myself and I take responsibility for whatever I say.

“Above all, we still remember his negative statement concerning PDP on Ekiti, Osun and Rivers States elections. We still have the audio and it is a reference point that we will never forget. Pa Bode George should take a rest now.” he concluded.

A 2018 graduate of University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), Ogbonna Nnaemeka, on Sunday died of complications from a head injury sustained while playing football in Nsukka.

The graduate of Sociology/Anthropology was among the 2019 batch A Corp members that passed out from the scheme in March.

Nnaemeka was said to have hit his head on the ground after missing his footing while going for a headed ball at the Umudikwu village playing field in the Nsukka.

A friend of Nnaemeka who was an eye witness, Ani Peter, told Vantage News that Nnaemeka showed earlier signs of concussion but was immediately attended to by teammates who poured water on his head and bought an energy drink that he took and sat down to rest.

Moments later, he started convulsing and was rushed to Divine Mercy hospital where efforts to save his life proved abortive.

Ani blamed the hospital for showing no signs of urgency and for professional misconduct.

“The Doctor was not on duty when we brought Nnaemeka to the hospital. The nurses on seeing his condition started shouting ‘Jesus’ and called the Doctor Who came two hours later, sighting faulty car battery as reason for his delayed arrival” he said.

After being pronounced dead at the hospital, the family started making arrangements to transport his corpse to their village, Amutenyi, Obollo Eke, Enugu state for burial.

Ogbonna Nnaemeka after passing out from NYSC
There was mild drama as Nnaemeka was said to have moved his body while arrangement was being made to take his corpse home for burial.

It was then the family transferred him to Faith Foundation, another hospital in the town.

Doctors on duty at the hospital immediately attended to him and confirmed him dead.

A relative of the deceased who wants to remain anonymous and who was present at both hospitals revealed to Vantage News that doctors at Faith Foundation said that the boy probably would have survived if he was brought to the hospital earlier, indicating that he did not get the best of medical attention at Divine Mercy hospital.

Nnaemeka, who is also a musician and goes by he stage name, ‘EmmyCruz’ , was on Monday laid to rest in his hometown, Amutenyi, Obollo Eke amid tears from family and friends.

As at the time of filing this report, efforts to reach the management of Divine Mercy hospital proved abortive.

CrimeFulani Herdsmen Refused To Leave Our Farms After Collecting 700K Compensation by HenryQuest(op): 5:40pm On Jul 29, 2020
Alayi, a community in Bende Local Government Area, Abia State, has been thrown into pandemonium following the return of Fulani Herdsmen to their community two months after allegedly being paid 700,000 naira over two missing cows.

A video sent to Vantage News by a native of the community, who chose to remain anonymous, shows women of Alayi lamenting over the return of the herdsmen to their community despite being warned to keep off following the first incident where the herdsmen complained that they lost two of their cows in the community.

Watch video of the Alayi women protest below:

Illustrious sons of the community are said to have collectively contributed the sum paid to the herdsmen as a way of placating them and to avoid clashes.

In the video, one of the women speaking in Alayi dialect said, “our anger is that we paid 700k to them, thinking that they will never come back as they promised but this time around they came back in large number, destroying our farms and stealing our corns.”

“We cant even go to harvest our crops right now because they have taken over our farms. our children are hungry and we have nothing to feed them with” she lamented.

Another aggrieved woman in the video said, “we want the government to hear our cry and to immediately come to our aid because we have been chased out of our farms. We don’t want them in our farmlands because we don’t feel safe and our crops are destroyed whenever they are around”

The community is predominantly made up of farmers who rely on their farm produce to survive.

According to the protesting women, the matter had been reported to the leaders of the town union and but nothing concrete has come out of it.

HealthCoping With Anxiety In A Pandemic by HenryQuest(op): 7:27am On Jul 25, 2020
By Promise Chimuanya Ugochukwu

Do you sometimes feel restless out of the blues with palpitations, headaches, breathing faster than normal or feeling lightheaded or some tremors?

These might be symptoms of anxiety.
Anxiety in itself isn’t a bad thing. It is the body’s mechanism to shield us when there is an external life threatening situation. For example, if you are being chased by a wild dog or facing an armed robber, the body’s sympathetic response is to increase heart rate, rate of breathing among others in preparation for fight or flight.

This feeling is all good and well when it is needed but if it persists for a long time or happens without cause or notice, anxiety becomes a problem. In these challenging times with the pandemic and so much uncertainties, stress levels are on the increase and a higher number of people are dealing with anxiety, some for the first time in their lives. We are worried about our health and those of our family members especially as the number of confirmed cases of COVID-19 increases while also considering changes to finances and long term plans.

It is human nature to always seek out safety, comfort and relaxation. In a bid to do these, some people might adopt harmful practices such as overeating, consuming alcohol and other psychoactive substances. So what healthy ways can you cope?

1. Take things a day at a time
We have probably heard this a lot of times but practising it might be more difficult. The truth is that worrying about tomorrow or next week would only add to the problem. Instead focus on the day and what you can control.

2. Limit screen time
While social media could be a way of staying entertained and keeping in touch with loved ones, waking up and sleeping on social media isn’t healthy and studies have shown that it increases stress levels.

3. Be physically and mentally active
Have a daily routine and follow it. Include daily exercise too. Choose something you enjoy doing (could even be dancing) and aim for 20 to 30 minutes daily.

4. Deep breathing
This is a simple technique that can aid relaxation. Sit down or lie down comfortably and try to relax. Closing your eyes might help. Breathe in deeply through your nose for about 4 seconds and hold it for another 4 seconds. Then breathe out slowly through your mouth for about 4 seconds. Repeat this about 10 times. You may practise this whenever you feel anxious or make it part of your daily routine e.g in the morning when you wake up and at night before bed.

5. Go outside
Engaging with nature reduces anxiety and stress. Take a walk, breathe in fresh air, look at the clouds, grass, trees and flowers. It is best to do this within your compound for now.

6. Stay connected with loved ones and reach out to help others.

7. Practice gratitude daily and have a hopeful mindset. Imagine life beyond the pandemic and make plans.

If you try these and still feel anxious and overwhelmed, please reach out to a mental health professional. If you were struggling with anxiety before this pandemic, you may also need to speak with a mental health professional.

Promise Chimuanya Ugochukwu is a Dietitian and currently a 5th year Medical Student at the University of Ibadan. She loves to read and cook.

This is a dress rehearsal for 2019. If APC had sense they would shine with this election by allowing the people's mandate take effect without looking for technical options to sway victory. They would have made some people believe in the electoral process once more.

The worst thing you can do to a people is to take away their right to decide for themselves who will lead them.

If at this stage you still believe Buhari will freely relinquish power if he is defeated in 2019 then you should have a rethink.
