please scan the car and post the error code,
1.Check the fuse box at the trunk to make sure the fuel pump fuse and relay is ok.
2.Check the fuse box with red tab close to the battery.
3.Verify that the battery is fully charged.
3.Check fuses and relays.
4.Check the Crankshaft position sensor –( Crank No Start)
5 Check Spark Plugs and Coil.

Am currently using this exact type of engine, fuel economy is good, the engine is a die hard engine, suspension parts are not too pricey if it's not 4matic.
It's good for long journey and more fuel economical on highway.
Recommended oil is Mobil oil.
I use Mobil regular engine oil(7lts).
4yrs now, no engine issue, no oil shortage and no smoking.

You can also replace the auto transmission to manual transmission. That will solve the problem, but if you can't get the manual transmission, then sell the car as it is.
