Meanwhile, in democracy, these legislators are empowered to tinker with the constitution. So, this has little or nothing to do with Tinubu. My friend, you still don't get it. Please consider this: If you want power supply to improve, do you make the main importer of generator as chairman of the power reform? Of course NO!!!! Why? because good power supply is his business death knell. This is the same scenario with the NASS and progress of Nigeria. You can expect a progressive constitutional review from a NASS where most of the members are extremely corrupt and thieves. |

LaboPolitics: In Nigeria politics, the end justifies the means. Have yoruba had their turn? Yes! Should the east have theirs? yes.
Left for only voting power, yorubas could never smell power in this country. Concessions were made to the SW region in 1999, the East will also RIGHTFULLY ask for that concession and if the yorubas (who are currently minority in the south) won't bow to common sense, equity and logic, the rest of the south will ensure you also NEVER enjoy those concessions you are fighting to happily deny others.
A yoruba presidency will never happen in 2023, we are ready to make the sacrifice to ensure it never does. It is not your turn. You hardly win national elections since 1959, you should be the last person trying to victimize or scuttle other region's rightful opportunities. We don't even want Yoruba presidency. You served Military President Ibrahim Babandida. it’s becoming clearer why you were stopped by powers that be then from becoming president of Nigeria when Nigeria was supposed to have cut off from military dictators after Abacha.
The powers that be then, including IBB, chose another ex soldier but rejected you.
The powers that be then must have understood that you are a most tricky, dishonest and unrepentant TRIBALIST. When will you think more maturely? So IBB and the powers that be (Abacha, etc) are standards of correct judgement? |

Nchenches: If Olu Falae can implement the 2014 CONFAB recommendations before 2023 presidential election, there shall be no need for zoning or rotation of the presidency. But it’s the skewed political structure which makes zoning the office of the presidency inevitable.
Olu Falae knows all these. But all he is after is how to deny the East it’s turn to produce the next president of Nigeria. You guys think everyone is after your down fall. What a pathetic mindset! So Olu Falae, Old man about to die, is seeking to deny SE presidency? How naive! |

So, its better to push for power rotation. When it comes to your region, you present someone that truly loves his people and that will champion their course. Don't be deceived, PMB has done a whole lot for the north and northerners. You still don't get it. What else do we need to know that zoning is useless?
I'm supposed to be supporting Orji Uzor Kalu who wants to be president as an igbo man; but i ask myself: to what end? Orji was useless as a governor. he couldn't do shit for Abians for 8 years, but he is supposed to now make igbo land paradise as president? Rubbish. To hell with Igbo presidency or any presidency.
Just restructure this thing or better still let all of us go our separate ways and just maybe we may see genuine progress for our various nations in our lifetime.
God pass them how exactly? weather he is saying it for selfish reasons or not, what he is saying is the truth. Lets say OUK or Rochas become president tomorrow, how exactly will it favor your children and grandchildren? or you are looking for bragging rights on nairaland? The igbo man that will become president will only benefit his family and close allies from the east, west, north and south. If you do not know, there are many igbo men making a kill from this government while many people from daura are dying of hunger. There are igbos doing big contracts in lagos and many from iragbiji or wherever Tinubu is from that have died of penury. The present political system is Paddy Paddy.

proffemi: According to you, disease incidence is increasing, but yet we should open schools so it can increase more? How can you defend that? Is it that you think COVID doesn't kill, or that if it takes only a certain number of lives, reopening would be worth it?
No, we will not stay home for five years. But we do need reasonable guidelines or assurances that we are not putting lives at risk.
I will leave you with some of the guidelines. Tell me that most secondary schools (which are criminally underfunded in the first place) in Nigeria will do #3 to #6.
1. Equip and resource schools for improved teaching and learning methods for special needs learners. 2. Provide WASH facilities including soap, hand sanitizers, and girls’ dignity kits in schools 3. Establish and adequately equip dispensaries and clinics as appropriate 4. Create adequate classrooms and learning spaces to maintain safe distancing in schools 5. Provide better ventilated classrooms and TLCs 6. Use solar power and alternative energy sources for electricity, and boreholes for water (which human being put this here?)
I repeat, we can reopen anytime, but the evidence suggests that we haven't yet reached a point where it is safe to do so. That is what the Fed Ministry of Education is saying, and for once, they got it right. Forget the pressure from private school proprietors and their teachers, like a certain clown above. When there is evidence that we can safely do so, we should reopen schools. That may be next 2 weeks, it may be next month. Before then, we shouldn't play games with lives. Those facilities you want provided for all schools in Nigeria may not materialize in the next 5 yrs. We all know our country na. So should schools shut down till then? Do you know how many teachers and private school owners have died because they cannot afford drugs? Do you know the economy is drowning fast and school economy is not little? Do you know how kids have been raped, molested, and abused because parents need to go hustle for food? Ironically those parents exposed to Covid-19 would still come home and infect these children you so want to be locked up. On the economy again, do you know how many people who don't go to work (and so not economically productive) just because they want to stay at home with the kids? Finally, Oyo State has opened schools partially. We have not heard of multiple deaths of teachers and students. 'We should wait longer for the deaths', you may say. But I assure you if (indeed) deaths increase in Oyo State, it is only taking its share of death toll early. Every state would eventually open up and then take their own share. |

You are obviously not a teacher, or don't have kids in the age bracket we are talking about. You actually think kids in Gragra Village College will follow those silly guidelines? Did you actually go through the original guidelines?
Finally, do you honestly believe Nigerian kids and schools will be more disciplined than their Israeli counterparts? Do you know that the Israeli experiment with reopening their schools is falling apart as we speak?
You cannot be more concerned than I am; I have kids writing SSCE. But you cannot just wave your hands and tell us that everything is okay. Show us the facts, show us the evidence and show us *realistic* guidelines. Your kids that might have Covid-19 and recovered unknown to you! Hehe! |

If as of today the NCDC has tested only 152,000 persons of a population of over 200,000 million and recording a confirmed positive cases of 29,000. It then invariably means that if the testing capacity steps up and 152million people were to be tested, we might be recording a staggering 29million positive covid 19 cases with a vast majority most likely to be asymptomatic!! 2. If coronavirus is false; let them resume schools and see the outcome; Israel had to shutdown schools back; so let’s learn from Oyo

A lot of first commenters are very intelligent people unlike some other threads.
Oyo government is not risking the lives of children as many people say. He is being realistic here where other governors hiding their heads in the sand. Come to think about it. The children are the least vulnerable to Covid-19 anywhere in the world. Those are waiting for children to die in hundreds in Oyo State will be disappointed.
These same children are playing ball all over the place; some are hawking, selling in markets, etc. They have not been dropping dead with all those exposures. It is now schools will start killing them!Lol!
Schools have been asked to raise their disease prevention protocol. Students must wear masks, wash their hands, maintain social distance, etc. In Bodija market, none of those protocols are followed and thankfully, Covid-19 has not killed many of our people.
Makinde may go down as a leader who saw ahead of others, including the baba in aso rock. He says Covid-199 will be hear a long time. Cases will keep rising till 2022. Will we keep our schools shut till then?
Finally, someone said let's shutdown till vaccine comes. Do you have an idea of the cost of the vaccine? Is it this govt that cannot give 10k palliative to it's citizens that will procure vaccines for 200m people? Answer me! |
