Politics100 Innoson Jeeps: Governor Ugwuanyi Trends Online by HeWrites(op): 7:08pm On Sep 14, 2019
Enugu State Governor, Rt. Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, is currently trending online after he patronized Nigerian-made Innoson Motors, Igbere TV reports.

This is even as political pundits have been heaping praises on the Governor for unveiling new strategies to tame security challenges in the state.

Igbere TV had reported that Gov. Ugwuanyi, on Wednesday, unveiled the new vehicles purchased to enhance security operations at the community level.

The vehicles include 100 pieces of Innoson Hilux vans for use by the Nigerian Army, Police and the Nigerian Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC), among others.

The remaining 260 vehicles, which were approved during the governor’s recent security meeting with all the members of the State Assembly, Local Government Council Chairmen, the Director of State Services (DSS) and the Security Chiefs of DSS in the council areas, will be distributed to the 260 electoral wards in the state.

The security vehicles will be deployed to provide services for community policing, Vigilante/Neighborhood Watch and Forest Guard operations.

The governor said his administration will also purchase motorcycles as well as bicycles, adding that it equally intends to partner churches and other organizations for intelligence gathering, among other strategies.

CrimeWhy We Are Yet To Rescue Siasia’s Mother — Police by HeWrites(op): 4:19pm On Sep 13, 2019
Police in Bayelsa State have said that the “changing of locations” of the suspected kidnappers of the mother of former Nigeria international, Samson Siasia, has made it difficult for rescue operations, Igbere TV reports.

Bayelsa police commissioner, Uche Anozia, said this on Friday as an update on attempts to rescue Beauty Siasia.

Mrs Siasia has spent 62 days in her abductors’ custody after she was kidnapped on July 15 in Odoni community, Sagbama Local Government Area of Bayelsa.

Igbere TV recalls that Siasia’s mother had earlier been kidnapped in November 2015, spending 13 days with her kidnappers until a ransom of about N600,000 was allegedly paid.

Mr Anozia explained that police operatives had shortly after her abduction “sourced for useful information that gave investigators a promising lead to some locations within the creeks where the victim may have been kept.”

He added: “The police have been trailing the abductors in spite of the fact that they have been changing locations.

“The fundamental aspect of our operations that is of interest to us is the achievement of positive result and not actually occasional dissemination of information concerning efforts being made by the police to achieve such result. This is why we have not been coming on air to update the public.”

The CP, however, said the police command’s technical team was working in collaboration with other security agencies to rescue her.

Siasia recently told newsmen that his mother’s kidnappers had not set her free despite receiving N1.5 million ransom.

He said the abductors released his cousin’s mother-in-law, Florence Douanana, 66, and also took in an unnamed person who delivered the money to them.

“Not Too Young To Run”: INEC To Disqualify Candidates Below 30 In Bayelsa, Kogi Guber

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has said that it will disqualify ‘underage candidates’ in the November 16 2019 Bayelsa and Kogi States gubernatorial election, Igbere TV reports.

This was as the Commission expressed its resolve to publish the personal particulars of all candidates in the forthcoming polls in both Kogi and Bayelsa states.

According to INEC, in a statement obtained by Igbere TV from its Twitter handle on Thursday, some of the nominated candidates fall below the age limit allowed by the Electoral Act.

https://twitter.com/inecnigeria/status/1172124999597068288?s=19

The statement signed by INEC’s National Commissioner and Chairman, Information and Voter Education Committee, Festus Okoye said the particulars of all candidates would be published on the notice boards in its offices in both states on Friday.

“Under the “Not Too Young to Run Act”, candidates standing for governorship elections are expected to have attained the age of 30”, he said.

But the Commission said its preliminary review of candidates’ particulars showed a breach of the law, as most of the candidates fall below age 30.

“The publication of the personal particulars of nominees is for members of the public to make any claims and objections regarding these candidates, as required by law.

“Similarly, the Commission has observed from a preliminary review of the list and personal particulars submitted by the political parties that some of the Governorship and Deputy-Governorship candidates are below the minimum age prescribed by the Constitution for these positions”, the statement added.

Although, INEC has no legal power to disqualify candidates legitimately forwarded to it by political parties, the electoral umpire said it would notify concerned parties and as well consider further action.

“The Commission will notify the concerned parties soon and subsequently consider further action”, the statement said.

The statement added; “in accordance with the Electoral Act and in line with the Timetable and Schedule of Activities for the Bayelsa State and Kogi State Governorship elections, the Commission will on Friday 13th September 2019 publish the personal particulars of nominated candidates for the elections.

“The personal particulars of the nominees will be published on the notice boards of our offices in Yenagoa and Lokoja.

“As required by law, the Commission monitored the primaries of the political parties and the list of aspirants who emerged has since been published on our website and other platforms.

“From our records, 64 political parties conducted primaries in Bayelsa State as against 59 in Kogi State. Out of these, 52 political parties for Bayelsa State and 49 for Kogi state respectively submitted the list of candidates and their personal particulars at the close of nomination at 6pm on Monday 9th September 2019.

“While some of the political parties that conducted primaries did not submit any list and personal particulars of candidates, a few failed to submit within the time limit prescribed by the Commission.

“Out of the 101 nominees for the two States, 91 are male, representing 90 per cent, while 10 are female, representing 10 per cent of all the nominees. Of the 52 nominees for Bayelsa State, 6 are female, while 46 are male.

“The corresponding figures for Kogi State are 4 female and 45 male nominees.

“As we continue to prepare for the Bayelsa and Kogi Governorship elections scheduled for Saturday 16th November 2019, the Commission once more reminds the political parties of the timelines in the Timetable and Schedule of Activities and requests strict compliance with them.

“We look forward to working with the parties and all stakeholders to make the forthcoming elections in the two States free, fair and credible”.

The blog had published an MTN building being razed by fire in Lagos on Tuesday,in the wake of reactions to the South African xenophobic attack on Nigerians.

Social media users however discovered that the picture showing the structure belonging to the mobile network, was reported by Nairaland in 2015 as a building that caught fire in Ilorin, Kwara state, Igbere TV reports.

This act made fans call for the withdrawal of Linda’s journalism licence or better still, her media platform be shutdown.

This did not go down well at all, as Linda had given fans a hard pill to swallow. Some Nigerians said she should be arrested while others stated that it was after the blog published the story that angry youths started destroying any outlet belonging to South Africans, thereby she used her platform to influence violence due to wrong information.

Twitter users also said Linda Ikeji has gone too far this time and that Linda Ikeji instigated violent act.

Others condemned the report and that in a sane country with good law, Linda Ikeji would’ve been arrested by now and her journalism license would’ve been withdrawn for misleading the public, inaccurate information and instigation of violence amongst the public. She should be convicted of treasonable felony, the angry Nigerians said.

The angry Nigerians however admonished National Union of Journalist NUJ to withdrawn her license and regulatory bodies be on their toes.

PoliticsEFCC Insists Diezani’s $40m Jewellery, Gold Iphone Beyond Income by HeWrites(op): 4:32pm On Sep 02, 2019
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has stood on its position in its appeal to the Federal High Court in Lagos for the final forfeiture hearing on the money laundering suit against former petroleum minister, Diezani Alison-Madueke.

EFCC had on July 5 secured the order for the temporary forfeiture of 2,149 pieces of jewellery and a customised gold iPhone valued at $40 million belonging to Mrs Diezani.

The commission, on Monday, in an affidavit deposed to by an investigator, Rufai Zaki, insisted that the items were beyond Diezani’s “known and provable lawful income.”

Mr Zaki said investigation showed that Diezani, who was appointed minister in 2010, began to acquire the jewellery in 2012 from Bukola Oyewumi of Trinket Box Bespoke Jewellery at Ikeja City Mall, Alausa, Lagos.

Zaki said the former minister did not use her salary or any of her legitimate income to acquire the assets in question, adding that the EFCC was in possession of the UBA account she used in collecting her salary as minister.

The investigator said Diezani also bought jewellery from Minal Ratanani of Bella Vista Apartment, Banana Island, Ikoyi, Lagos.

He said Ratanani told the EFCC that Diezani bought jewellery worth $865,300.00 from her over a period and she paid in cash.

Diezani’s counsel, Nnamdi Awa-Kalu, however, argued that the seizure of the items amounted to a violation of his client’s constitutional right to own properties.

Justice Nicholas Oweibo adjourned till September 11 for ruling.

PoliticsOkorocha Dares Ihedioha On Arrest Order by HeWrites(op): 3:50pm On Aug 30, 2019
Immediate past governor of Imo State, Rochas Okorocha, has dared his successor, Governor Emeka Ihedioha, saying he cannot order his arrest, Igbere TV reports.

Secretary to Imo State Government, Uche Onyeaguocha, had on Thursday ordered a citizens’ arrest against Senator Okorocha over alleged assault on a government official, Jasper Ndubuaku.

Igbere TV reports that Mr Ndubuaku, chairman of the Recovery of Government Properties, was allegedly assaulted at Okorocha’s residence.

The former governor, in a statement on Friday by his media aide, Sam Onwuemeodo, said the arrest order was an “open invitation to anarchy or fracas in the state.”

He said: “The arrest order is an open invitation to anarchy or fracas in the state because Imo people will always come out to defend Okorocha. It also shows insensitivity on the side of the government in the State because such arrest order was uncalled for and Onyeaguocha has no right to issue an order of that nature.

“The order only adds to their continued disrespect for the former governor, which is a very bad precedent. After May 29, 2019, Owelle Okorocha relocated to Abuja. He was in Abuja when the recovery committee members slapped his daughter, Mrs. Uloma Rochas Nwosu, invaded and looted the shops of his wife, Nneoma and that of the daughter too. And just the previous week, Onyeaguocha invaded the private guest house of the former governor.”

The statement concluded that Okorocha would be in Imo whenever he deems it necessary.

“Nigerians of goodwill should disregard the arrest order. It became void on arrival.”

PoliticsFG To Issue Executive Order On FBI Fraud List – Presidency by HeWrites(op):
The Presidency has said there would be new executive orders to tackle international fraud after the US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) released a list of 77 Nigerians indicted in fraud-related cases, Igbere TV reports.

Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, while speaking on Channels TV on Monday, said the government would work with all nations to tackle criminality.

“The government will generate and ask for new laws from the National Assembly and there will be new executive orders that will block some of these loopholes that have been exploited by our fellow countrymen to go out there and embarrass and black paint the country,” Mr Shehu said.

He added: “Every citizen of this country who travels out of the country, is required to obey the laws of their host countries,” adding that “the government would not stand in the way of the justice system.”

On the effect of FBI’s list on Nigeria’s image on the international scene, Shehu said the action of one Nigerian should not be taken as a representation of every Nigerian.

PoliticsNgige Threatens To Sanction Banks, Gives Reason by HeWrites(op): 3:34am On Aug 23, 2019
The Minister of Labour and Employment, Sen. Chris Ngige, has threatened to sanction banks, who sack workers indiscriminately, saying they ought to declare redundancy before taking such decisions, Igbere TV reports.

He stated this on Thursday in a chat with newsmen.

“We also have to monitor job loses, we also have to stem the tide of job losses through a proactive action from this ministry”, he said.

“We were all here, when the bank started, we had to stop them because we looked into the matter and discover they didn’t actually declare redundancy, which is in labour sections.

“They must observe the article of redundancy, once they do that, the law is the last to come first to go.

“We discovered that those banks, having used earlier people, want to dispose them and bring relatives and other friends, the same thing in the oil industry.”

Adebayo, who was Ekiti State Governor between 1999 and 2003, was sworn in as the Minister of Industries, Trade and Investments, alongside others in Abuja, Igbere TV reports.

Culture21 Ibadan Monarchs Face Possible Loss Of Crowns by HeWrites(op): 10:18am On Aug 22, 2019
No less than 21 monarchs in Ibadan, Oyo State may lose their crowns soon, Qed.ng has learnt.

Former governor of Oyo, Abiola Ajimobi, had handed the instruments of office to the kings on August 27, 2017, at Mapo Hall, Ibadan, Igbere TV reports.

This followed the controversial review of the 1957 Olubadan Chieftaincy Declaration and Other Related Chieftaincies in Ibadanland by a panel headed by Justice Akintunde Boade, which ended in the elevation and crowning of the 21 kings, including the Olubadan high chiefs and baales.

Senator Rashidi Ladoja, who was also a beneficiary, stayed away from the ceremony and filed a court action which nullified the crowning of the monarchs.

Ajimobi then went on to challenge the nullification before the Court of Appeal.

Sources close to Governor Seyi Makinde say he wants to discontinue the appeal.

The governor has also opted for an out-of-court settlement which was filed in the Registry of the Court of Appeal, Ibadan on August 20.

The two-page settlement noted that that the report of the “the Boade-led commission of inquiry created disharmony.”

It also said Makinde’s administration would stand on the rule of law, saying that the parties also recognised that the House of Assembly had not amended the Chiefs Law of Oyo State.

PoliticsPassengers Stranded As FG Closes Land Borders by HeWrites(op): 7:59am On Aug 21, 2019
The Federal Government has ordered the closure of Nigerian land borders across the country, leaving thousands of passengers travelling across West African routes stranded.

A Igbere TV correspondent who visited the international bus park in Amuwo-Odofin, Lagos State on Wednesday learnt that buses could not leave because of border closure.

An official of one of the transport companies plying the Idiroko-Seme route told Igbere TV “the FG has closed the Seme-Owode end of our border since last night and all passengers booked for the West African route will have to wait until further announcement.”

He added that words filtered in in the morning that the borders will remain closed for 28 days from Tuesday night because of security challenges.

“Buses travelling across West African routes usually depart at 6.45am but we are not sure of what will happen next,” the source added.

Some passengers were seen approaching customer care for a refund, while some were waiting in disbelief as at 7:45am.

The Nigerian Customs Service (NCS) had announced on Tuesday that it will be conducting a joint border security exercise codenamed Ex-Swift Response in conjunction with the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) to secure Nigeria’s land and maritime borders.

A statement signed by Joseph Attah added that the Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN), as well as the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) and other security and intelligence agencies, will be involved in the exercise.

“The joint exercise is being coordinated by the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA) and will take place in four geopolitical zones, namely; South-South, South-West, North-Central and North-West. It is expected that the exercise will promote interagency cooperation and increase preparedness to address trans-border security challenges such as terrorism, armed banditry, smuggling, proliferation of small arms and light weapons, amongst others.

“The exercise will also involve the movement of personnel, vehicles and equipment within the affected parts of the country. Therefore, we call on members of the public not to panic and should continue to engage in their normal duties. The overall objective is to ensure a peaceful and secure country in the interest of our national security,” the customs spokesman said.

Transporters in Amuwo-Odofin, however, told passengers there was no prior notice of border closure.

Mr Attah had not responded to a message sent to his phone on the subject as at the time of filing this report.
