Femi Falana (SAN), renowned human rights lawyer, has stated that many political leaders in Nigeria have called for revolution at one point or the other, and the call for revolution in the country is not new. Falana stated this on Monday, August 19 while speaking at a symposium organised by Coalition for Revolution (CORE) in Lagos. Igbere TV gathers that the senior advocate said during the colonial rule, Nigerians had called for revolution. However, he said unlike what is obtainable now, those who had called for revolution in those days were not charged with treason. He said: “Let the authorities in Abuja know that call for revolution is not new. Political leaders in this country have been calling for revolution and nobody charged them. “When Nigeria was at this stage in the 1940's, a group of young Nigerians, the Zikists, gathered at Glover Hall (Lagos). “Their leader, Osita Agbonna, delivered a lecture titled “A Call For Revolution” and those who shared the same thoughts with them were arrested and charged with sedition, that they were trying to embarrass the colonial regime. “They were not charged with treason or treasonable felony.” Falana further stated that he was reminded of the era of military dictatorship when the venue of the symposium was cordoned off by the police and State Security Services earlier on Monday. He said: “When we were outside and were told the symposium will not hold, my mind went back to 30 years ago during the Babangida and then the Abacha junta when we could not meet. “We defeated both dictators and I can assure you that any other dictator will not be allowed to rear his ugly head.” The legal luminary said those disturbing the peace of the country were known by the government. He said: “The Buhari administration knows those who are breaching the peace of Nigeria- terrorists, armed robbers, herdsmen, coup plotters and others. “Those who went on the street to protest in exercise of their right to assembly and complain against injustice, corruption and maladministration in our country cannot be said to have breached the peace in our country." Falana pointed out that revolution is a long and tedious journey, and urged members of the Revolution Now movement to persevere. He said: “A revolution, like Chairman Mao Tse Tung said, is not a dinner party. A revolution is a very serious, rigorous and consistent battle for the soul of a country. Presidential panel laments protection of corrupt of individuals “What you have done is mere declaration of intention. The journey is going to be intense, take time, but I believe we have started and there is no going back.” Recall that Igbere TV previously reported that the police sealed off the venue of a symposium where Nobel laureate Professor Wole Soyinka, Femi Falana and other speakers were to speak on the insecurity bedevilling the country. Police vans were seen at strategic locations around the venue, 46 Ibijoke street, Oluyole bus-stop, Oregun, Lagos. http://igberetvnews.com/914330/just-in-we-defeated-ibb-and-abacha-we-wont-allow-another-dictator-femi-falana/

Scores of civil servants in Kwara State who resumed late to work on Monday, August 19, were locked outside the main gate of the old secretariat in Ilorin, the state capital, following orders by Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, Igbere TV reports. The action according to reports gathered by Igbere TV is a way of instilling discipline on the State’s work force, which he has since his assumption into office given adequate concern to their welfare. “Late coming to work is unhelpful for government business in the 21st century,” the governor told the affected civil servant. Igbere TV learnt that by the time the governor left the secretariat a few minutes before 10 a.m, many of the affected workers were still locked outside. According to the spokesman, Rafiu Ajakaye, for the governor, the governor is not happy that he got to the Government Secretariat at about 7:55a.m. Monday and for over one hour only a few workers were at work. Most offices were still locked as at 9a.m. He feels very unhappy about such an attitude and calls for change. Adding that; “Late coming and poor attitude to work certainly will not be tolerated. The civil service should be business-like and efficient in service delivery. As we try to support the civil service to deliver on its mandate, we expect a drastic shift from old practices that have taken our state nowhere.” http://igberetvnews.com/912474/late-comers-locked-outside-ilorin-secretariat-by-governor-abdulrazaq/ Lalasticlala Mynd44 Dominique

Nigerian immigrant, Ayoola Ajayi, who is facing charges in the United States for allegedly killing University of Utah student, MacKenzie Lueck, has been hit with 19 new charges of sexual exploitation of a minor. Prosecutors said they discovered child pornography in Ajayi’s computer with images of children as young as four years old during investigation into Lueck’s death, Igbere TV reports. The new charges were filed on Tuesday. Ajayi, 31, has still not entered pleas to counts of murder and kidnapping of the student. A probable cause statement for the new charges does not indicate any link between pornography and Lueck. Ajayi was arrested in June after SWAT personnel responded to an apartment complex in Salt Lake City. Lueck’s last communications were with Ajayi and both parties’ cell phones were at Hatch Park within less than a minute of each other. That overlap occurred shortly before Lueck’s online/cellular activity ceased. Born in Nigeria, Ajayi appears to have briefly explored a career in modelling, according to a profile on ModelMangement.com. Listing his height as six-foot-one, Ajayi goes on to describe himself as “tall, buffed, funny,” as well as “a victim, Romantic, Violent and character actor [sic].” The former information technology specialist for the US Army also recently worked for Dell and Goldman Sachs. President Muhammadu Buhari has said that killers who scream ‘Allahu Akbar’ do not know God. Buhari said this on Wednesday on his visit to Batsari Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camp in Katsina State. President Buhari promised that he would fight insurgency and banditry until peace and security are returned to the country, Igbere TV reports. He said: “What brought me here is to condole you over the recent bandits’ attacks affecting not only you but all of us. I have nothing to add on what the Emir had already spoken extensively about, but all that leaders should do right from home is ensure justice. “I assure you that we sleep and wake-up with the sad moment of banditry and kidnapping activities in the state and country. By the grace of God, we will use soldiers, police and other public servants to end banditry. “All those whose activities is to kill people and saying ‘Allahu Akbar’ are lying because God is not wicked. You can’t carry bomb or gun, sword or knife to go and kill innocent somebody and say ‘Allahu Akbar’. This implies that you either don’t believe in God or you don’t know what you are saying.” He urged the people to provide information about suspects to security agencies. “There is popular Hausa adage that says it’s the rat in the house that tells the rat outside that there is fish in the house, so within yourselves, your neighbours and even your relatives there are informants. “So in this case, both you and I don’t know them, it’s only God that knows them, we can’t do anything here rather intensify prayers for God’s intervention by exposing them,” Buhari said. Francis Okiye, speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly, has opened a legal suit at the Federal High Court Abuja to stop the National Assembly from taking over the state assembly’s functions. The state’s seventh assembly was inaugurated on controversial circumstances on June 17, when nine out of 24 members-elect during elected Mr Okiye as the speaker around 9 p.m. The National Assembly had given the Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, one week to issue fresh proclamation on the assembly or it would take over the assembly’s functions. The House of Representatives had made a similar threat. In an originating summon and a motion on notice for interlocutory injunction filed by the speaker and the state assembly, the plaintiffs asked Justice Nkeonye Maha to restrain the National Assembly from going ahead with its plans pending the hearing on the matter. The suit was instituted on July 17 against the Clerk of the National Assembly (first defendant), Mohammed Sani-Omolori; and the National Assembly (second defendant). The matter, which was brought before Justice Maha on July 23, was adjourned until July 31 for hearing since the parties were yet to be served. Lead counsel to the plaintiffs, Ola Olanipekun, on Wednesday, told the court that after the defendants had been properly served as ordered by the court, the Senate on July 30 still went ahead and passed a resolution for the takeover of the assembly if the governor fails to comply with its resolution. The judge adjourned the case until August 7 to enable the complainants respond to the counter affidavit and written address filed by lawyers to the National Assembly. https://foxmeek.com/politics/edo-speaker-drags-national-assembly-to-court-over-plan-to-takeover-edo-assembly

National leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu, and former governor of Ogun State, Ibikunle Amosun, are some of the winners in the ministerial list sent to the Senate by President Muhammadu Buhari. The inclusion of a former media aide to Tinubu, Sunday Dare (from Oyo State), spells victory for the APC leader, Igbere TV reports. Mr Dare, a former senior editor with The News Group, was until his nomination an executive commissioner at the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC). He had worked for the Voice of America (VOA) in Washington DC, United States. Dare was a pioneer staff of TheNEWS magazine from 1993 till 2001 when he left as general editor to join VOA. Also, contrary to expectations, former governor of Lagos State, Akinwunmi Ambode, was exempted from the list after he fell out with Tinubu which cost him his bid for a second term. The nominations of former Lagos State governor and immediate past minister of power, works and housing, Babatunde Fashola; and former senator Adeleke Mamora, a long-time member of the Action Congress (AC) before the emergence of APC, also spells victory for Tinubu. Despite Amosun’s fall out with the APC leadership, his former commissioner for works and infrastructure, Olamilekan Adegbite, was included in the nomination list sent to the Senate. Senator Amosun has been on suspension from the APC after supporting another party’s candidate in the 2019 Ogun governorship election which ultimately saw his anointed candidate, Adekunle Akinlade, lose to Dapo Abiodun of APC.
