anonimi: How many people have you helped your self. This requires a collective effort from all and it is not to be limited to a particular group. If you are a church member, when last did you yourself extend your own helping hands to others. The church worldwide is trying. Maybe they need to do more but they are doing something. Their efforts would be felt if we do the little that we can do too. |

Obi1kenobi: I am sure that you did not know that UK authorities exonerated Winners chapel in the church and considered it an organization that should be emulated. I guess it is nit your fault. The media is so faulted that evil deeds are usually broadcasted so fast while good deeds are usually buried and left unannounced. The media is not at fault either, humans are. Most of us tend to rejoice in the downfall of our fellow human and most also fail to see the good in what others do. Truth be told, these people are trying. They might be not be perfect, I have my flaws too and I know that you have yours. You may not like the fact that the church has several schools and all maybe because you think that is not their calling, I am sorry, I can't change your opinion about that. All I know is that several individuals have benefited from the establishment of those schools. You may also think that they are not suppose to collect tithe and offering, I can't change your opinion on that too but all I know is that there has never been any compulsion to give, people who give, give freely. If you own a standard organization, you will understand that you don't get profit immediately from business dealings especially when you have invested a whole lot in the business. For some it takes years, so I believe Oyedepo when he says he has not profited from CU. For clarity, I will make a simple scenario. A women who decides to be selling normal pure water and drinks after investing let say 150,000 to buy a freezer, 10,000 to buy 100 bags of water 100,000 to buy drinks will. She rented a shop of say 120,000 per annum and employs 2 sales persons to pay them 3000 naira per month. If you had basic economics orientation and mathematical skills you will understand that she can only be said to have made profit if the amount she earns or gains is more than the amount spent in buying, operating, or producing or selling her goods as well as the labour cost. So bring that into the issue of CU with close to 1000 staff and faculty members including professors. Just last week, over 50 faculty members were promoted in Covenant University including 20 or more individuals who were promoted to the rank of full professors. The school has several buildings (for hostels and lectures) which are needed for normal running of the school(and can be put under running cost), a stadium which is at the final stage of completion, standard labs, research buildings etc. Each year, there is always a building project that the school embarks on. The school has internal research grants available for qualified faculty member, free internet etc. The school provides conference supports for her staff both local and international and I can't count the number of people that benefited form that every year. As a lecturer, you don't have to use your money to publish an article so far they the article is published in Scopus or Thompson Reuters. The school can pay as high as 2000 dollars for an article. A lecturer published 3 articles this year and the school paid 625 dollars per article. My point here is- it costs to run a standard organization and if you are in the system, you will understand that they there has really not been any profit so far from CU. |

Hello dear! I follow most of your post and I find them very interesting. I have a connection to Winners and I understand your stand towards the church. The truth is not everyone would see from our point of view except they are willing to be open-minded and understand how these churches work. I worship freely on any church where the undiluted word of God is preached because personally i see no sense in going so far to worship in a particular church when there are several close by and I can say that from my little experience that no one compels you to give in winners. I have lost count of the number of times I went for their services and I still can't remember anytime when Papa or any other pastors requested or forced members to give. There is usually no announcement to give for church projects as such except when you are encourage to contribute to transport scheme of the church( free transportation for bringing people who can not afford to come to church)- that is even not compulsory it is as you wish. But most people will not believe and understand except they see for themselves. I say this over and over, Oyedepo et al have a choice, it is either the keep amassing wealth like some churches do without any positive impact on their immediate environment all in the name of I am just called to preach or they do little they are doing now. The consequences of the former is not far fetching- more unemployed individuals, underdeveloped communities, increased number of students awaiting admission which in turn will lead to an increase in social vices etc. Yes he may have his faults, he is not perfect, he is human, I am not perfect either and I am still yet to see any perfect being on earth presently. I almost sure that God himself will attest to that. We all are work in progress, working towards the perfect man which is Christ Jesus. I however think that when an individual is doing well, they should be applauded and not criticized. I just pray that those criticising them can just think deeply and see the good in what they are doing. I am a beneficiary of their good deeds. 1 Like |

BluFlyBoy:. Hello dear! I understand your plight. I read through some of the comments here and they are not too good. Are you a christian? If yes, please pray only God can order your steps aright not any advice here. I understand that you don't like the idea of living illegally in the US.Trust me it is not the best way to live. That life of unsettlement and unrest is not the best. We have people living in Nigeria that are doing great and perfect without engaging in any illegal/immoral work. Just seek God'd guidance concerning this issue and he will direct your path. If it is his will, you will have your green paper and settle in the US or come back home and make it big with the little you have. Just ask Him to direct your path. 8 Likes 1 Share |

hahn: In his own little way, he has contributed significantly to the educational sector in Nigeria. He has a choice, either he keeps amassing wealth (gotten from tithe as some people think) for himself and his family members, or build schools that does not only give quality education but also provides employment for thousands of people. Covenant University alone has provided employment for over a thousand people, not to talk of the other university, secondary and primary school his Church owns. He said at a time that over 18000 people are on the church's pay roll. without the Universities, we will have over 1500 students that each of the University admits every year competing with the other students for the limited Federal and State Universities. We will also have more unemployed individuals adding to the already burdened unemployment rate in Nigeria. He may have his own flaws but I think he is trying. Remember that no single person can help everyone or solve everyone's/nation's problem. Even as small as the family (both nuclear and extended) is, you will realize that you cannot help every one. The numerous problem in Nigeria is way too much for only one person to carry. Even the government cannot do it alone not to talk of an individual. If everyone can contribute significantly to the nation advancement, I think this country will be a better place. |

The fact that he has not helped you does not mean that he is not helping people in his country. My brother and I are beneficiaries of God's help done through him. We are not even church members. I am an Anglican by birth and a CAC member by choice. True be told, it is not possible to help everyone in this world but that does not mean we should not help anyone. If we all can render the little help we can based on our own capacity, I am sure this world will be a better place. jakD: |
Religion / Re: David Oyedepo Celebrates His 62nd Birthday Today by hglmkope(f): 6:30pm On Sep 27, 2016 |
I hope you know that it is literally not possible to help everyone in the world as an individual. The only person that can do that is God. Even God will always want us to ask Him before He interferes in our affair. That said, Bishop David Oyedepo is a blessing to Nigeria in several ways. If you really want to know, you can research well and remove any form of prejudice and judge rightly. He has invested in the education sector of the country. This is someone who, through God's help, built and run two Universities and several secondary and primary schools (probably in their hundreds if not thousands) there by providing job opportunities for several individuals. He provides scholarship for students to attend some of these schools also. Though Living Faith members are usually the ones that benefits the most from the scholarship he provides, other individuals have also benefited from such programs. My brother benefited from this and today, he is a graduate of one the University that the man established. Just for your information, my parents attend Anglican, though some members of my family attend Christ Apostolic Church. Because of him, we have over 10,000 less unemployed individuals in Nigeria. This includes the teachers, academic and non academic staff and several others who benefit directly or indirectly from the church. The statistic does not reflect contractors and artisans that were involved in building the structures present in those institutions. Some are even still involved in the maintenance. If he decides not to establish any of those institution, i don't think he has anything to loose(except for God's anger that is if God actually wants him to do it and he refuses). He will still be receiving tithes and offerings (as some presume he is blessed because of that). However, if those institutions were not established, then we would have had over 10,000 unemployed individuals joining the overwhelming group of unemployed persons in Nigeria. Only God can say what the fate of those individuals would have been. Some might question his way of life and several other things. I know nothing about that but I am sure that no one is perfect. I am not, you are not also and the most important thing for Christians to do is to continually aim for that God-kind of perfection. I just believe that if everyone can do the little they can in their own way to improve the welfare of others, this world will be a better place. frubben: |

Life is more than all this. God has deposited in us virtues, skills and potentials that are to be used for the betterment of not only ourselves but people around us and the world at large. Op raised a serious issue in a humorous way and I think it is a call to us all. A call for an impactful living that will drive the change that Nigerians truly need. A shift from the normal Nigerian mentality of "me, myself and I". Funny enough, an impactful living brings with it all the good things of life that one can ever imagine. I know that we are quite religious in this part of the world and I think that our prayers should not be centered on what you listed here. Anyways, I pray that God will grant all our heart desires but I wish above all that God will help give us insight and help us work harder so that we might unleash our potentials and utilize it for the betterment of our country. merits: |

Nice one op. One thing that I have realized in life is that people that are tagged good are not always as good as they appear neither are those that are tagged bad as bad as they appear. This is a call to all Christians. We must walk in love even as Christ did. He walked and dined with unbelievers so that he could win them over to God. |

Romance / Re: I Am A Pervert. I Need Help With My Sex And Porn Addiction. by hglmkope(f): 12:16pm On Feb 22, 2016 |
The first stage to being delivered is your dissatisfaction with your present situation or condition. I am glad that you truly desire to drop this habit. Tell yourself everyday that I am going to stop this and gather the little self control you have within you (I am sure you still have it in you) to resist any temptation that may arise. Like someone said earlier, it is a gradual process. I do not expect that you will stop having sex and be celibate at once. However, make efforts to stop. You can start by unsubscribing yourself from those porn site. Join a staff cooperative society, if you have one at your place of work, so that a significant amount of your salary will be diverted there and you will have only what you need. If you don't have any staff cooperative, you can open another account that you wont have any access to the ATM as someone suggested or better still, fix your money in the bank. Most importantly, you need God. You probably may not know the power of a Short, Simple and Sincere prayer until you say it. You could just say, Dear God, if truly you are God and a help in time of need, please help me with this addiction. I am trying to make effort but I know I can't do it alone. Please help me to stop. You may also want to dissociate yourself from friends with benefits that may want to lure you into sex. I pray that God will help you to stop as you truly wish. NineSongs: |

It is important to note that the "art of worship" is based on the state of your heart with whoever you are worshiping. As Christians, do you imagine obatala or any god that the op is referring to whenever you say olorun. Please don't cause confusion, my God is not a God of confusion. As for me, whenever I say "Olorun mi", I think of my Father and my God, the creator of heaven and earth; the one one who has remain faithful to me and others alike despite our unfaithfulness; the one who loved me so much and gave up His son for my salvation. If your wife has agreed to this, I suggest that both of you should talk to her parents. Tell them of them that you are looking forward to a low- key wedding with a maximum of 200 guests. You can tell them your reasons for this if you like. I am sure they will understand and also cut down on the number of guests they will invite. If they want it otherwise, then they bear the financial consequence of inviting more guests. My elder sister did this and it worked for her. For the church members issue, she does not have to do it in her church especially if her parents go to a different church. Better still, you can have your church wedding first in the morning and let the reception serve as an opportunity to do your introduction and engagement ceremony. Mcayofficial: 1 Like |

Hello! I just could not pass by without saying a word about this. What if he does not plan to live in Nigeria? Would you prefer that they both stay apart after wedding. Although there are Nigerian women who will cheat on their spouse, history also has record of those that have remained faithful despite all odds (you attest to this yourself). At op, please only you can decide if you want her to come over there with you. You know her so well more than anyone here. Besides, I think if she is worth being your wife, then she is worth living with you wherever you are. Please don't make her wait for you. It does not always work out that way. agarawu23: 12 Likes |

Presently, I can do that for only my mum and dad, but mum will never include her undies. One of my aunt asked me to wash her very dirty undies when I was much younger. I was so angry but could not refuse her so I just soaked and dried it like that. When she got back she saw some stains and later washed it herself. That was the first and last time she asked me to do such. |
