Guyman02:First, only small minds would simply jump at profiling others as Jonathanians, Buharists or Tinubuist for the sake of it! I am glad to burst your bubble, I am none of those three. Rather, I am a Nigerian and pro-Nigerian. It is bad for the country to just label off people like that, especially people you know zilch about. Second, of course, the APC should start ruling. Nigerians are tired of the rhetorics- the funny outbursts of Mr. Lai Mohammed are becoming embarrassing even to his own ears. Nigeria should come first, not politics, not party, not even personal interests of "big" politicians like PMB, Tinubu, Saraki or anyone for that matter. |
Has Dr. Saraki come to the end of the road, politically? Well, maybe not, in Nigeria anything can happen. But if indeed he has nothing to hide, it worries the mind as to why he tried to (through the back door) prevent the case brought against him by the CCB at the CCT from going to full trial. Now that the SC has rightly ruled his case lacks merit, (meaning his attempt to use loopholes in the law to ridicule the law failed), what next for him? Here are three options (amongst many others): 1. Resign honourably This is the standard procedure for public officials accused of impropriety in other climes! To protect the office he currently occupies (Office of the Senate President) and to avoid a conflict of interest while he has has his day in court to clear his name from the mud. Two scenarios are possible at the end of his trial: A- He is found "not guilty", and so, he's left off the hook. But considering the gravity of evidence against him, this possibility would be interesting. B- He is found "guilty", and the law runs it full course. 2. Refuse to resign To ignobly hold on to the Office of Senate President in spite of the corruption trial he is facing, he would need to rally the support of senators to further polarize the Senate, his party (APC) and even Nigeria in order to forestall the commencement of impeachment proceedings against him. This line of action would really be unfortunate but at the end, we hope justice will be served, no matter whose ox is gored. 3. Get a soft landing. In the past under previous administrations, corruption cases, such as this, against high ranking public officers became a "family affair" and before Nigerians said Jack, everything was swept under the carpet. Nothing of such need happen under the new adminstration. President Muhammadu Buhari must be encouraged by all well meaning Nigerians not to toll that ignoble line. This Saraki vs FRN case must not be traded off for anything, not even for 2019, not for anything. For the good of Nigeria and to rein in corruption, here is an acid test to prove to Nigerians that you are indeed serious about your anti-corruption message, about you desire to relaunch Nigeria on the path of accountability. This case should be seen to a logical end without fear or favour, and the same measure of zeal should apply to ALL other pending corruption cases including Dasukigate. We must win back our country. God bless Nigeria. - Hi-Dee (A concerned citizen) |
According to today's Supreme Court ruling, the Senate President Saraki must face trial for corruption charges at the Code of Conduct Tribunal. Public office holders, no matter how highly placed, must be accountable. In essence, the highest court in the Nigeria has aligned itself with the current realities on ground in saying "no one is above the law". This is the one of the best news Nigerians could ever get today. While Saraki is still presumed innocent until the court finds him guilty as charged, Nigerians would hope that this trial would run its full course and justice would be served. Same optimism applies to the plethora of corruption cases of other accused persons. Hopefully the culture of impunity would gradually end as sanity returns to the polity. Details later. Seun:@Seun, the MoDs are doing great. And yes, they can do better. You could also educate Nairalanders on the benefits of the report button. That way, everybody is better protected. Thank you. |
Seun:@Seun- of course, there were two different issues raised. The first is almost inevitable, which is understandable. I know topics in the home/front page drive traffic but fact is, since the topics in the front page are the first visitors to the site see, the quality of those topics say a lot to visitors (especially first time visitors). For the second observation, while the good work of the MoDs is quite commendable, the charge is that they do better. Except if we are saying an improvement is impossible or unnecessary! Lastly, was it really necessary you included this, "Any further mention of the home page will be seen as a sign that your grasp of logical reasoning is poor, because you know why it's that way."? If you wrote this or any of your aides did, then that would be a shame and big disservice to the brand. Benign insults should not be a standard in addressing sincere concerns raised on the forum, at least, not insults from you, the face of NL. What example did you intend by that insult? Or does your example explain why insults are readily spewed every where and unabated these days on NL? Seun, I could suppose you are a good guy but whoever included that poo in that reply of yours needs to check himself in for a refresher course in civic relations. |
It seems commonplace these days to see and read many people complain these about the quality of topics that make front page on Nairaland (NL). As the entertainment industry continues to grow at home and abroad, one can understand why entertainment related articles (some of which are lightweight and intellectually empty) almost certainly make front page, but how do we explain the array of subjective and arrant explicitly X-rated posts that now litter various sections on NL? Has there been a policy change by Seun, the MoDs and other management of NL? Or is it hackers at work? What happened to the good days when only topics that are most beneficial to the public make front page rather than anything goes? There are many underaged folks who visit popular sites as NL for useful info, those kids deserve to be protected. NL should continue to lead the way in being a user friendly Nigerian website that balances the "right to free speech" and "respect for others". The assymetrical needs of the various categories of people that use NL should continue to be met. The public deserves to be forewarned before such explicit materials are unleashed on us. Better still, sexual posts could be restricted to a section reserved for them rather than being allowed to litter every inch on NL like a multiheaded monster! What exactly is going on with Nairaland? |
God bless our #soldiers, serving and retired. Thank you for all the sacrifices to preserve our freedom and make to keep Fatherland safe. We will always cherish them. God bless you soldier. Happy Armed Forces Remembrance Day 2016. #ThankASoldier

In case you haven't heard, the biggest story on Nigeria's cyberspace in the past couple of hours has been this episode of theirs. While I am not interested in who was/is right or wrong as I do not have all he fact, neither am I in a position to even try to apportion any blame, my real concern is that there are many other pathetic stories of countless women/men whose child(ren) was/were forcefully taken from them by richer, more powerful and more connected estranged ex husband or ex wife. For those unfortunate, unconnected ones, no one is talking about their predicaments. I once heard of a case where the husband retrieved the children from school without their mother's consent and flew them to South Africa; the distraught mother, left with only one child, could only haplessly look on. About 7 years after, the other 3 children have yet to return, the complicated court system in Nigeria couldn't help matters. Lawyers, human rights activists, NGOs, volunteers etc. can be of help, a great deal, to countless women and men in this area. As we enter the new year, what measures can you take as a young man or woman to avoid such future heartbreaks for yourself and your loved ones? Here are seven simple steps: 1- Inculcate the right values and stay true to them; 2- Don't be in a hurry to get rich quick; 3- Don't be in a rush to be married; 4- Before entering into a relationship, "shine your eyes well". As much as humanly possible, know (in advance) what exactly what you are getting yourself into; 5- Know when to call it quit with a disoriented or an abusive relationship/marriage; 6- For those who are asexually active, ALWAYS use a condom; it not only saves you from unwanted pregnancies and STDs, it also saves you from heartbreaks such as theirs; and 7- When you slip, mess up or act indiscreetly (like we all do sometimes, after all, we are but human), PLEASE, don't sweep it under the rug only for it to linger on or re-appear 10, 20, 30 years down the line. Be courageous and wise enough to admit your indiscretion and make efforts to clear your mess before it degenerates into a disgraceful public spat as theirs. Finally, I hope Davido and Sophia, at least for the sake of their baby, Imade, can amicably resolve this impasse and find a way forward. And to everyone, I say, Happy new year 2016 in advance (it's barely 12 more hours to go)... A toast to your success. |
AizekB:God bless your home. |
Hello Nairalanders, Can you please recommend a good expert or academy in Ibadan, Oyo State that organizes practical, affordable and highly productive training sessions on blogging, bulk sms, trading in expired domains, internet marketing, web design etc.? Please, kindly drop the contact(s) of any such one. Thank you |
ga040:Congrats on the quick refund. But I think you should lodge a formal complaint with the appropriate authority apart from the bank involved. If you don't, they will soon do the same thing to another customer. Please, I encourage you to alert the authorities by filing a formal complaint. Someone inside the bank or at the Nest Buy Store might hacked your account, done something fishy, or why was the money so swifty returned? |
theV0ice:You killed it bro. I couldn't agree more with you You are so on point with your observation above. Thank you. |
G12:Interesting. Reply your PM or can we chat privately? |
fiverrwin:Reply your PM, please. Thanks |
ibedun:Guy, I dont knw you but I must commend you. This i first sensibly balanced comment on this topic here on NL (at least on the first page- I didn't really bother going through subsequent pages).. All the major subjects in the write up including FFK should seek help as it is evident that there is so much bitterness, evidence of terribly bad decisions, disregard for others and vitriol in the them. Both writers (of this article and the first one) particularly. |
bizfirst:Guy, abeg, show us the way to do that method na! Thanks |
afolabi1992:Thanks for the secret. Please, how do you recover data on a flashdrive that is no longer recognized by the computer? Thanks |
luigiajah:Nice piece guy. What's a sub-domain hosting? |
blessingee:@ OP- Please, edit the title; it should be "shoot" not "shot". Thanks |
Ever since I first signed up on Nairaland four years ago, there is hardly a day I don't log in to Nigeria's most popular site for daily dose of news and happenings in Nigeria and around the world. Sometimes, you laugh and laugh at the funny jokes,at other times, you learn and meet new friends. But for a while now, I have sadly noticed that there is hardly any thread you open without your eyes being shamed by insultive words, offensive name calling, insensitive tribal jabs, death wishes, dehumanizing expressions about others, some bothering on racial profiling, religious insentivity, nepotic and tribalistic bashings. It gets so bad sometimes that some folks intentionally derail the thread with their anti-social, unpatriotic, obnoxious and toxic posts! This malaise shouldn't be allowed to fester. Of course there is freedom of speech which is a constitutionally guaranteed right, but there is also a necessity of law and civility to respect others and their views without hounding them in, making spurious allegations/claims about them, insulting them or calling them unprintable names. I believe we can continue to have objective discussions on the different threads without these avoidable distractions. I must commend Seun and his team of MODs for their good work so far. Weldone guys. But truth is, there is still much work to be done. And I must also add that this goes beyond being quick to punch the keyboard to ban Nairalanders who seemingly cross the line; solving this menace would demand much more than that. Amongst other things, I am suggesting that Nairaland spearheads a social re-engineering programme that employs carrot and stick approaches such as: education and public enlightenment; social consciousness and self compliance initiatives; value re-orientation; and of course, punitive measures. We must arrest this social rot before it completely robs us of the fun and blessing Nairaland has been to us all. We can and must do this. By the way, I am an incurable advocate of free speech- but even free speech (and indeed freedom) comes with its own intrinsic responsiblities. Every Nairalander must come to understand that: Nairaland is like a virtual school, a mini-community on its own; each Nairalander is legally responsible for whatever he/she posts online; and that whatever you post online as a Nairalander is a true reflection of your core values and the family you come from. Lastly, I thank you for your time. Over to you guys, I hope we will in the days ahead, find the best way possible to safeguard and strengthen this heritage that Nairaland has become, and make it even more society and user friendly, more life-molding, more nation-building and more mind engaging. A toast to a greater and better us... A concerned Nairalander, (Hi-Dee) |

Fraud Alert! Last year, I constantly received texts from #MTN each time they illegally deducted from my account for a service I didn't apply (and could never have applied) for. When I called MTN Customer care to complain, the deductions promptly stopped, but alas, momentarily. Only for me to find out months later that the illegal deductions had indeed resumed and continued. Except that this time, they don't send me texts anymore after the deduction, so it was hard to suspect or prove anything until I caught them red-handed last night when they stole from me again while I slept. Is because our laws are so lax with little or no supervision and enforcement of extant laws by relevant government agencies? Is this how they treat customers in South Africa? Or in Europe or America where consumer laws are still enforceable and better respected? One would think all we are having to cope with are weakened public institutions and corrupt government officials, I tell you some of these private firms and service providers are as bad, if not worse. MTN, you had better calculate all the tokens you have stolen from me and other unsuspecting customers over the past months and donate them to charity or return our monies without further delay. #Thieves #Barawo #Ole |
53cur3m0d3:lol |
elantraceey:Thanks- I already tried those steps. Noted. |
LewisO:Guy- you should know that not everyone would have intentions, the one you assumed or already do have yourself! |
Hey guys, I have been wondering lately- how do you PM folks you admire on Nairaland (guys and babes alike), that you wouldn't mind knowing them better or even getting to meet them in person? |
... A private jet that conveyed $9.3 million cash from Nigeria to South Africa for an arms deal between the two countries, had Nigerian crew members, and passengers from Israel and Austria, new documents obtained by PREMIUM TIMES in Johannesburg have shown. There were three Nigerians aboard the plane, the documents show. PREMIUM TIMES obtained the manifest of the jet that transported the huge sum, and has confirmed the identities of the passengers and crew who delivered the controversial package. In an investigation that involved visiting South Africa, PREMIUM TIMES has obtained documents showing details of the transaction, including the flight manifest of the airplane. The listing shows that beside Mr. Mesika, the only Nigerians on board the aircraft were crew members. The other two passengers who conveyed the cash were Austrians, the manifest shows. The flight crew members of the Project Eagle Air jet with flight number: N808HE were Ojongbede R.T (captain), Fejoku U, (flight officer) and George E.E (flight attendant). The listing contradicts reports that the other passengers were Nigerians, a claim that set off an intense controversy after the All Progressives Congress, APC, accused a former militant leader, Dokubo Asari, of being one of those aboard the plane. The APC relied on unverified reports by some news websites [not PREMIUM TIMES] in making the false claim. Mr. Asari denied the allegation and threatened legal action against Lai Mohammed, the spokesperson of the APC. In an interview with PREMIUM TIMES at the time, Mr. Asari threatened to physically assault Mr. Mohammed if he failed to get justice in the courts. “After all the South Africa People have given the names of people on the plane and if by next week we go to court and the court is being manipulated not to give me justice, I will resort to self-help,” he said. “I have the capacity to resort to self-help. I will not give anybody any apology because if a man has mouth to malign me then I can use what I have to fight for myself.” Source: www.premiumtimesng.com/news/headlines/171732-exclusive-revealed-the-nigerians-aboard-jet-that-smuggled-9-3-million-arms-money-to-south-africa.html |
