Business › Would The New Note Be Able To Fight Hoarding On Its Own? by Hier(op): 2:31pm On Jan 28, 2023 |
Everybody is shouting, they changed the colour, they changed the colour, but let's say, is there a possibility that if that coloured note is kept in a place where it is air tight or damp kinda scenario, would it alter the face of the money? Just asking, well, let's see how it goes in the future cause no one has really experimented on that, but I believe it might be the whole idea behind the colour change. It might be stupid but brilliant |

Last winter, I left a bottle of water in the car overnight and met blocked water in the morning. Does fuel also freeze out? |

backnbeta: I have just sent someone to withdraw the sum of 8k for a general cleaning lady who doesn't have a bank account...she's right here, waiting. I have withdrawn money today at the market. Thankfully, zartech takes transfer and foodco. I'm literate, I have a bank account but sometimes I deal with people who don't. This policy has probably come to stay, but it means I will only patronize people who have bank accounts...where does that leave the cleaners? The petty traders? I say again; this is neither the right economy nor the right time to enforce cashlessness...it should come after serious sensitisation If she's handling a work worth 8k, seriously, she's not low standard. Even the woman in the market, as long as you can buy 5 congo of rice, 5 congo of this and that, one cartoon of this one, she should be able to do online transaction. Even if she can not, obviously, she should know, she can ask for someone nearby to assist her. At least, Nigerians needs to start with recognizing credit alert, POS would take care of others. If she would buy from sellers, she would make transfer from the deposit made to her account. Its not too hard, any petty transactions, 100k should be enough for the week |

Jimmythewise: Northern Nigeria alone is infested with uneducated folks. It will take more than 100 years to have them all educated. There are uneducated folks in America, I believe they have fought against illiteracy for 100s of years. It is important that we all accept democracy for what it is. Their uneducatedness is the reason this country is where it is. |

backnbeta: So many illiterate and semi illiterate artisans out there operate with cash! Market women, labourers, food vendors...how will they manage? Yes, People will adjust eventually; but is it the best for an economy like ours? Artisans would receive wages within the minimum withdrawal per day. Traders all of those small small cashes, should not be above 5k or the 20k minimum withdrawal. Anyone who would receive 10k should be doing sth big, and they should be able to afford an android phone and at least have a little bit of education which would enable them understand how mobile banking operate |

The development is a good one for our Naira
CBN can monitor many transaction
Kidnappings would reduce cause there would be shortage of physical cash
Vote buying also, politicians would have lesser cash to throw around
The cost of printing physical cash would also be eliminated in the process |

IbeOkehie: The cost of fuel is set on a world wide market. The costs of shipping, freight and customs are not a significant determinant of prices. If subsidy is abolished and ALL the refineries in Nigeria, including Dangote, start producing at full capacity, the cost of petrol at your local filling station will still be close to the world price.
Think about this. If world petrol price remains at the current ₦450 and the local price in Nigeria is ₦165 or even ₦250, what do you think Dangote will do?
He will EXPORT all his products abroad to get the better price. The ONLY WAY he will sell in Nigeria is if government pays him the difference, to make up for his losses. That is to say, the Government of Nigeria will pay FUEL SUBSIDY directly to Dangote. And then Nigerians will buy the fuel at the pump and smuggle to Benin Republic and Cameroun and you're back to the same problem of SCARCITY.
Come on man, it's not that hard to understand. High prices encourage local production. The problem in Nigeria right now is government fixes a lot of prices so suppliers refuse to supply. If we have enough refineries to meet local use and yea, electricity, if there is enough power, most of the fuel consumption are used for powering electricity, gen etc. Dangote should sell to who he pleases, my own is, enough fuel for local production, enough power supply, we would cut total demand by half if we can improve on our power generation. Just as easy as that |
