2Face Idibia, Nigeria's success story in the music industry, speaks with E-GIST on controversies concerning his marital life, music, and other issues

LOOKING back to that day you decided to sing, did you dream of getting this big in the industry?
Well, I hoped and prayed that I made it before I even started at all and God answered my prayers. But there is something I want my fans to know, I just got a quarter of what I prayed to God for. Seriously, I still have some aspirations, which I am yet to achieve.

When exactly did you decide it would be music and why?
1997. I decided to go into music because it was distracting my attention from any other thing I laid my hands upon.

What are the obstacles that you faced back then?
There was no money to go to the studio to record, even when there were songs already written. Despite all our efforts to be known then, we were not famous. Besides, our songs were not promoted as we wanted.

And right now, do you still face any obstacle?
Yeah. When I was not popular, I yearned for it so much but now, I can not do the things that I like to do. In fact, it pains me that I can not live my life the way I want to. Other people are those who tell me how to do things, they call it name Management.

Do you think its the same problem for today's musicians?
Yeah, except for those who were born with silver spoons though. How to get clothes, do rehearsals, get money to record were some of the problems we faced as poor up starters. Your songs are still there as obstacles for them to face.

With your success, who would you say has put innovation into his music?
Every musician in this country has put one thing or the other into music. If I start counting, we won't finish naming names till daybreak.

Apart from your music, who else do you listen to among Nigerian and foreign musicians?
I feel Sunny Ade, Fela, Chris Okotie, Onyeka Onwenu, Majek Fashek, Victor Uwaifo, Asa, Jay Z, etc. like mad.

Do you read papers, Nigerian papers especially?
Yeah, I read Nigerian paper a lot, and foreign ones whenever I travel abroad.

Which publication has been wrong about you?
A lot of them. For example, when the rumour of 10 children from 12 ladies was published, I felt bad, but later I asked people how that could be possible. 10 children from 12 ladies? (laughs).

How did you take the publication?
It is sad that some press guys still write without confirming their stories in this modern age.
It was once said you paid to perform in a show in Port Harcourt when you started out. Do you think

its the same with upcoming musicians abroad?
I've never paid to perform in any show but I've begged some organisers to put my name on jingles. I have also been bounced at events several times when I was struggling to make it in the industry.

How did it feel winning your first award, foreign and Nigerian?
I felt on top of the world.

Can you mention some of these awards?
They are numerous to mention, I can't even remember some until I see them.

When news about your marriage is reported, what pisses you most in the reports?
Honestly, it doesn't piss me off because nobody asked me me to become a musician. It happens to every popular person. But questions like; “you should get married now” gets me mad because whether I get married or I don't, wetin concern anybody now?

Who set your duet with Mary J. Blige up for you?
My friend's wife in New York, Magaret Byrne.

What would you remember about Blige?
She's an energetic performer. She's also very down to earth. She no dey form o.

How much were you paid for African Queen that was used as sound track in the American film titled “Fat Girlz”?
It was a mechanical royalty, it doesn't come once. How do I explain it? All I know is that till I die, I will collect royalty on it. Moreso, anytime it comes, I'll be paid in dollars.

Will you still work with Kennis now that you are back with NowMusic?
If there is any deal that will be good enough for me, I can still work with them. But it has to come through my managers.

What happens to Hypertech now?
It is my own company. It still exists and will be forever.

Do you still plan to go back to school?
Yeah, I will still go back to school now or later, but time will eventually tell.

What exactly went wrong with R. Kelly's duet?
I don't really have any comment on that, I have forgotten that.

Did you meet Kelly at all?
I said no comment on that.

Is it true you have six kids from three women?
I have said that before. You said 6, some people said 10 kids from 12 women. I don't have time for these rumours. Let them continue to say anything they like. Can 10 kids come from 12 women? (Laughs). It's been nice talking to you, I got to go somewhere.
Celebrities › Lindsay Lohan Free Again ! by HighChief4(op): 11:55pm On Aug 08, 2010
US star actress, Lind-say Lohan, has been released from jail after serving less than two weeks of a 90-day sentence. The 24 year-old actress had entered an all-female jail in Los Angeles on July 20, after violating her probation on a 2007 drunk-driving charge.

The ex-convict is now expected to begin an immediate 90-day rehab programme, as her early release from the Century Regional Detention Facility to the south of Los Angeles, was not unexpected.

Inmates serving time for non-violent offences typically have their sentences reduced for good behaviour and due to overcrowding.

The actress had been on probation since August 2007 after pleading guilty to misdemeanour drug charges and no contest to three driving charges. She was ordered to complete a series of alcohol education courses. But she failed to do them on time and missed a number of meetings.

In May, an alcohol-monitoring bracelet was fitted after Lohan failed to attend a probation hearing because she claimed to be stranded in France. Her lawyers said she was unable to fly back from the Cannes Film Festival after her passport was stolen.

Lohan's last major cinema role was in 2007's poorly-received I Know Who Killed Me

The legal battle field is being set. Barr. Valentine Emeka Utulu of the Johnson Brant Chambers, counsel to KORA Awards winning Sammie Okposo, has filed a petition to the Scotland First Minister, Alex Salmond for the ‘unlawful arrest’ and unjust treatment reportedly meted out to their client in the Scottish territory.
The petition, according to Sammie’s publicists, MME, was duly copied the president of Nigeria, Britain’s Prime Minister, Secretary General to the United Nations, the Nigerian Ambassador to the UK, Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Chairman Federal House of Representatives Committee on Nigerians in the Diaspora, Solicitor to the Advocate General of Scotland, the Queen of England and many other influential individuals.

Sammie was on honeymoon with his newly-wedded bride, Ozioma, in Aberdeen when a lunch date with another Nigerian couple at Jimmy Chung restaurant ended in an arrest and overnight detention at a Scottish police station.

According to the statement provided by MME, the 19 page petition highlighted among other things a pending racist case involving the restaurant manager, Ronny Hung Yung and filed at the same police station accusing another customer of making racial statements against him. Barr. Valentine equally reminded the copied of two serving officers of the same police command who were recently convicted for perversion of justice.

It read in part, “the internet is awash with cesspool of corruption in the Grampian Police and the cases of Holie Grieg and David Emslie are but to name a few. Only recently two serving officers of the same command were convicted for the perversion of justice. It is unfortunate that the police force employed with the tax_payers money to maintain peace, law and order should then turn around to harass the very citizens it was employed to protect with spurious charges, arbitrary procedures, callous harassment and dispossession of private property”.
Celebrities › Why Paw-paw Lost Out On National Award ! by HighChief4(op): 11:51pm On Aug 08, 2010
Osita Iheme a.k.a Paw-paw may have forgotten this story, but the fact remains that the diminutive actor may have robbed himself the rare chance of being nominated for the National award.

Paw-Paw’s screen twin, Chinedu Ikedieze popularly known as Aki was one of the distinguished Nigerians who were accorded recognition some Thursdays ago by the Federal Government.

A gesture which generated controversy as many stakeholders in the movie sector blamed the government for failing to extend the same treatment to the other actor.

It was however the stakeholders’ conviction that both diminutive actors started off their careers same time, featured in the same movies and won many laurels together and therefore desire to be honoured jointly.

But a new twist to the story is the fact that Paw-Paw is now being held responsible for his own misfortune as far as the nomination for the award was concerned.

A woman who wouldn’t want her name in print, after reading Aki’s award story which was published last Saturday has narrated an incident that happened early this year, which is believed to be the reason he could not be accorded the same honour.

In a text message sent to HVP, the source alleged that Paw-Paw snubbed her husband while the latter was trying to introduce him to their state Governor for possible recognition.

The woman narrates the incident this way; “I and my hubby sighted Paw-Paw at the Excellence Hotel, Ogba, Lagos. My hubby quickly called on our state Governor and notified him of his intention to invite Osita to come to our oil rich state to perform, and also to draw him close to the government.

But surprisingly, when my hubby advanced to greet Osita he snubbed him outrightly. My hubby is a very wealthy man, well-connected and kind-hearted.

He felt so bad on that day. Don’t blame the government, Aki might be better off than Osita”

The woman, however declined further comments, when HVP contacted her for more clarification.
Also, on his own, Paw-Paw denied knowledge of such incident, saying “I’m not aware of it.”

Beaf:
They say the greatest African decease is that we don't read. Some fools are busy blaming the govt for something a private citizen is organising with his own cash. This is from the original article which many have foolishly not read, but feel they are competent to comment on. Shame.

. . .Again, shame!
Private citizens should get more involved with projects that will better the lives of suffering nigerians, why baking such a cake for a nation that the government has subjected children to desperate wants and physical deprivations. Bill Gate gave money to nigeria to fight malaria, which his original intention is to ensure that poor nigerians are healthy, now this is the type of things expected from private rich citizens and not baking a miserable cake for celebration of 50yrs of ineptness, Shame
