This Fayose guy is an embodiment of what a leader should not be. It still beats me why vastly educated people of Ekiti would prefer Fayose to a fine, gentle man like Fayemi.

It's simply unacceptable to make people like this leader of a state which prides itself as the home of professors!

GEJ has failed to deliver on his responsibilities as President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, therefore must not be re-elected.

It is not that he doesn't mean well for the people; he just doesn't have the capacity to rescue the country from its many challenges.

#Buhari Killed Awolowo#
This morning, as I listened to LATE HUBERT OGUNDE's
song:
"Oju Ogun laye igbeyin lo ju, k 'ori je ki igbeyin mi dun o, kin
da bi AWOLOWO"
I remember FREE EDUCATION and FREE HEALTH that I
enjoyed from 1979 to December 31, 1983.
Then, I only needed school uniform to go to school. Textbooks,
Exercise Books and other instructional materials were provided
free by the UPN govt.
Treatment in Hospitals (Including DRUGS) was FREE. Medical
personnel will even abuse parents for failure to bring their
children to the hospital on time.
I was enjoying all these when Buhari SCUTTLED
DEMOCRACY on December 31, 1983!
Buhari did not only killed democracy, he went on to JAIL Chief
Michael Adekunle Ajasin, the governor of the old Ondo State,
who was giving me Free Education and Free Health.
Buhari did not stop there, he placed Chief Obafemi Awolowo,
whose party, UPN was giving me Free Education and Free
Health under House Arrest.
Awolowo was to travel out of Nigeria for MEDICARE, Buhari
refused to let him travel.
The resultant effect of Buhari’s refusal to let Awolowo receive
medicare abroad was his death in 1987.
Buhari killed democracy.
Buhari killed Free Education
Buhari killed Free Health
Buhari killed Lagos Metroline Project
Buhari jailed Ajasin, Bisi Akande, Jakande, Ambrose Ali, Bisi
Onabanjo, etc.
Buhari killed Awolowo!!!!
What else does Buhari want to kill Won't he kill Nigeria?
#GEJ Till 2019

The number of lives lost under this current GEJ-led government is unprecedented in the history of this country.
I honestly don't know why any right-thinking Nigerian would want GEJ to continue as our president given the level of insecurity and poverty in the land.

I hope something good comes out of this meeting. Both govt and ASUU should make reasonable concessions and allow for resolutions that would improve teaching and learning conditions in our Unis.

ASUU must not be too stubborn with its skyrocketted demands as this may further delay govt action; Jonathan on the other hand should stop pointing fingers at the opposition - that's lame! If Oduah could spend hundreds of millions to buy 2 cars, students too deserve modern facilities to be trained with.

It's sad that after needlessly wasting students' study years, organizations and even government would still place age limit for employment. I think that's callous!

Jona, you're the leader, please end this strike!

If you see how my aunt is struggling to survive now (2 years after leaving Access Bank), you wouldn't believe she was that same person spending money like Dangote's daughter some years back.

The moral of the story is whether it's the Banking sector or Civil Service or Corporate World, spend judiciously and save wisely as if you'd be sacked the next day. Money is a traveler: it may be with you today, and tomorrow, go elsewhere.

The truth is people from South West are the most objective people in the polity. The Yorubas condemned Obasanjo as president more than any other tribe in this country, yet he's their kinsman.

I think if Nigerians can look beyond the issues of tribe and religion in viewing and assessing our leaders, by praising good governance and condemning corruption and bad leadership among our leaders, our society would be the better for it.

Tinubu cannnot afford to cede the post of Iyaloja to anybody because it's key during electioneering period. The Iyaloja coordinates and influences the olojas (market men and women) to cast votes (usually in bloc) to a particular party or candidate.

Isn't it funny that morally, it is wrong for Tinubu to impose his daughter as the new Iyaloja, but politically, it's a good decision, as her being Iyaloja would ensure Tinubu's influence on the olojas, in particular, at such times of election

Foreign Affairs / Re: Obama's Trip To Africa Comes With A Hefty Price Tag (extra Security, Etc). by highlandre(m): 11:24am On Jun 16, 2013
naptu2: I originally put this together in 2009.

THE BEAST AND ITS ESCORTS

This month we look at the wheels of the most powerful man in the world, The President of The United States, Barrack Hussein Obama.

Cadillac One

The current official car of the President of The United States is a Cadillac. It is the first presidential limousine not to have a specific model name (The previous presidential limousine, used by George W. Bush, was a modified Cadillac D.T.S). It has the call sign, Cadillac One (The presidential plane has the call sign Air-Force One and the presidential helicopter is known as Marine One). It looks so imposing that it has been nicknamed “The Beast” by the Secret Service. It first came into service on January 20th 2009. Like any presidential limousine, the security features are a closely guarded secret, but you can trust us, we’ve been able to unearth them for you.

The New (Obama) Cadillac One (in front) with George Bush’s Presidential Limousines (Behind) on inauguration day.

SECURITY FEATURES

Cadillac One has eight inches thick armour plated doors that are the weight of the cabin door on a Boeing 757. The door handles incorporate a special system, which can only be opened by trained personnel (secret service). The driver’s window can withstand armour piercing bullets. It is the only window that opens, by just 3 inches, so that the driver can pay tolls or talk with secret service agents. The chauffer is trained by the CIA to cope with the most demanding of circumstances. The driver’s compartment contains a standard steering wheel, but the dash board contains a communications centre and GPS tracking system.

The petrol tank in the beast is armour plated and filled with a specially designed foam that prevents it from exploding if hit. Its bodywork consists of a combination of dual hardness steel, aluminium, titanium and even ceramic to break up possible projectiles. A reinforced five inch steel plate runs under the car for protection in the unlikely event of a bomb being placed underneath. The car is built on the platform of a GMC truck. The tyres are reinforced with Kevlar (the material used in bullet-proof vests) and are shred and puncture resistant, with steel rims underneath, enabling the car to escape at speed, even if the tyres are blasted away. The boot holds oxygen supply and a fire-fighting system. The limousine, like the Cadillac DTS, is equipped with night vision cameras, but the location of the cameras have been moved & are a secret. It is also armed with pump-action shotguns and tear gas cannons. Bottles of blood (the president’s blood type) are kept on board, in case he needs an emergency transfusion. The limousine is environmentally sealed against chemical and biological weapons.

FLAGS AND SEALS

When the president is in the limousine, the presidential seal is affixed to its side and it flies two flags; the U.S flag on the right fender and the presidential flag on the left fender, for domestic trips and the U.S flag on the right fender and the flag of the host country on the left fender for trips abroad. The flags are ventilated and illuminated by High Intensity Discharge (H.I.D) directional flood lights, mounted on the hood.

The limousine is maintained by the Secret Service, which, on delivery, took it apart and swept it for bugs. Two dedicated mechanics travel with the limousine wherever it goes.

TRAVELS

When the president travels out of Washington, Cadillac One is transported by U.S Air-Force C-17 Globemaster III or C-5 Galaxy transport planes to wherever the president is going to.

The president never uses foreign “assets” overseas. He either uses Cadillac One, a Secret Service Chevrolet Suburban (Suburban One), or U.S embassy vehicles (indeed, Marine One, the presidential helicopter, is transported abroad by cargo planes anytime the president needs to use a helicopter overseas). This wasn’t always the case in the past. President Jimmy Carter rode in a Nigerian owned Land Rover when he visited Lagos in 1978.

Jimmy Carter and Mohammadu Magoro at Apapa Port.

Another notable exception was when President Richard Nixon visited China for the first time in 1972. The U.S sought permission to fly in their presidential limousine, but Mao Zedong said that there was no need for that, because there were vehicles in China that were good enough to transport Nixon. Nixon agreed, because of the historic nature of the visit. He used Chinese made Red Flag limousines during his trip, though the limousine was taken apart by the U.S secret service and swept for bugs and other dangerous materials. Presidents Kennedy and Clinton used a white U.S embassy Rolls Royce, when they visited Northern Ireland.

Chairman Mao Zedong’s Red Flag Limousine (Why do communists need a limousine? Aren’t they all meant to be equal?)

MOTORCADE

The length of the U.S. president’s motorcade varies, depending on the threat level and nature of his trip. It could vary from ten vehicles to forty vehicles (wonder what the POTUS’ carbon footprint is like). When the president is out of Washington, his motorcade usually consists of about thirty-five vehicles. Approximately the first half of the motorcade is known as the “secure package” and contains the presidential limousines, police cars and essential secret service vehicles. The “secure package” breaks away from the rest of the motorcade in the event of an attack. There are usually 2 or 3 identical limousines in the motorcade, one of these limousines carries the president, while the other acts as backup. The second limousine also serves as a decoy and it flies the two flags and carries the presidential seal, just like the limousine carrying the president. The two limousines usually switch positions several times during a journey.

The two limousines, the radio jamming SUV (with antennas) and the war truck.

The route the president takes is usually cleared of traffic by local police lining the route. About 6 – 10 local policemen on motorcycles ride ahead of the motorcade to ensure that no other cars are on the route (this is very dangerous work and some policemen have been killed in accidents, while performing this duty). A local police car also drives ahead of the convoy to do a bomb sweep (equally very dangerous work). The local police play a very important part in planning the route, because they know the area, control traffic lights and are better able to plan against traffic jams and assist the secret service in planning escape routes and alternative routes.

Some of the main vehicles that travel with the president are: -

(1) Chevrolet Suburban (The War Truck): - Several Chevrolet Suburbans are in the motorcade and some of them carry the Secret Service Counter Assault Team (C.A.T), whose members are mostly ex-marines. They are well trained and well armed. Under U.S law, the secret service can request for the latest training techniques and weapons from any branch of the military and the military must comply with such request.

There was a proposal that some of the SUVs (particularly the SUV behind the President's limo) should carry the Dillon Aero Mini Gun. It is not known if the proposal was accepted. Some secret service agents expressed concern over possible collateral damage. The Dillon Aero Minigun is a gatling gun that fires 3,000 rounds a minute (50 rounds a second). The SUV is known as “The War Truck”. Its roof opens up (much like a sunroof) and a secret service agent, wielding the gatling gun, pops up on a revolving gun turret. The agent is protected on his left and right flank by the doors of the “sunroof”. The Suburbans will surround Cadillac One if there is an attack on it.

The Dillon Aero Mini Gun in action

Secret Service Counter Assault Team (CAT)

2)Frequency Jamming Vehicles: - There is usually a vehicle (sometimes a suburban, sometimes a van) which sends out jamming signals across different frequencies. This is to prevent the detonation of road side bombs using mobile phones, remote controls, garage openers and other devices that emit radio waves. Sometimes, a helicopter, which flies over the motorcade, is used to jam frequencies.

3)Mobile Intensive Care Unit: - An ambulance (Mobile Intensive Care Unit) is always in the motorcade. It is equipped to handle surgeries and carries bottles of the president’s blood type in case an emergency transfusion is required. It is usually a big black armoured truck in the middle of the motorcade, though there are sometimes decoy white ambulances, which are usually full of secret service agents, at the rear of the motorcade.

HISTORY

President William McKinley was the first to ride in an automobile, but it wasn’t until the presidency of Theodore Roosevelt that the first government owned car was used.

The first car specially built for presidential use was the 1939 Lincoln V12 convertible, called the “Sunshine Special”, used by Franklin Roosevelt. The Ford Motor Company leased the car to the office of the President for $500 a year. After the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbour, the secret service became concerned about potential assassination attempts. The following day, 8th Dec 1941, a heavily armoured 1928 Cadillac 341A Town Sedan was used to transport the president to the Capitol for the famous “infamy” speech. Originally belonging to Al Capone, the car was confiscated by the treasury department following Capone’s arrest and stored in a government impound lot until its ironic final duty. Roosevelt used the car until his “Sunshine Special” was modified to be bullet-proof.

The Kennedy White House purchased a Lincoln Continental convertible, which was stretched into a limousine for the president by Hess and Eisenhart. It was the car President Kennedy was riding in when he was assassinated. It had a plexi-glass “bubble” top in case of inclement weather, but this was often removed (as was the case on the day Kennedy was assassinated) because the air-conditioner was not strong enough to deal with the heat in the vehicle.

President Kennedy in the Lincoln Continental, minutes before his assassination.

George Bush’s modified Cadillac DTS (Deville Touring Sedan) once broke down in Rome, Italy, when the president was being driven back to the U.S embassy. Surprised Italians could be heard giggling as the driver tried in vain to restart the car. Bush’s embarrassment was compounded when his back up Suburban was too wide to pass through the embassy gates, so he had to walk into the compound.

What I'm taking from this excerpt is that there's a lot of betrayal and conspiracy theory in the annulment of June 12 election. I'm beginning to think our Yoruba power-bloc, not necessarily IBB and those Northerners, were responsible for the annulment and post-election predicaments of M.K.O.
The lesson remains "trust your enemies than your friends".

You don't need to be an economist to know Nigerian economy's trapped: it operates in the realm of theory, but on how it impacts the people, the opposite is the case. A case study is the height of umeployment among the teeming graduates! I'm happy the minister herself confessed to this.
As for those who're saying there are different investors in the country currently, note that our production of oil is a big factor in measuring the poise of the economy, and how this would determine budgetary performance.
If you want to understudy the performance of any economy, measure the rate of employment vis a vis national policies and investments.

Romance / Re: Why Some Ladies Remain Single For Life by highlandre(m): 10:01am On May 28, 2013
Adeniyi A.:
9 Reasons Why Some African Ladies End Up Single For Life

1. Many African ladies will end up singles for life because of media exposure- it is so disheartening how a lady will glue her eyes on a mobile phone from morning to night, only to raise it up to focus on television to watch another celebrity entertainment channel. Tell me, what else will dominate this lady’s mindset aside how to live a fake celebrity life being promoted on television channels?

2. Many African ladies now dislike cooking and home chores just because they had been totally brainwashed by movies showcasing men playing the role of women in a family, and due to excessive exposure to modern media that promotes gender-equality in a destructive way that’s aimed at destroying the unique African family setting that made our previous African marriages everlasting and envious to the westerns. Now, with this attitude, how do you expect a African man to desire to marry when he knows he is only buying more headache and trouble than helper for himself?

3. Excessive makeup turns most decent and serious-minded men off- if you have observed, you will discover that most men dislike excessive makeup, and more don’t even like it at all; reason they often times discourage their true loved ones to do away with it cos it speaks ill of a lady even though so many men will applaud and complement you for looking like an Egyptian mummy. A slight makeup is okay; but if you are out for marriage, try always to look simple and natural, it will attract better men, decent and serious-minded, except you are still living in your high school life and not thinking towards marriage.

4. Stop Giving Your Number Out To Every Dick & Harry! No man would want to propose marriage to a lady whose phone is always talking and laughing with unserious calls. You may not be a playgirl, but he would judge you as one, and will likely flee at the slightest chance or disagreement.

5. You Don’t Bring Any Value Into The Life Of Men You Date or Are Dating- because your best friend married without contributing anything to the man that finally married her, doesn’t mean it will work for you that way. Think, work towards equipping yourself so that you can be a value and also add value to his life to convince him that you are worth committing to. Adding value to his life isn’t by giving him money, or material gifts, nope….good counsels, being his best friend, helping him attain his goals in life, lending him moral, mental and spiritual support, and by not just being a liability that only bring requests and problems to be solved.

6. Your Friends Run Your Life- how do you expect to find a husband when you still allow your clique of friends to be dictating which man you meet is worthy of your love and which is not? When will you wake up and face the fact that those your best friends even though they cherish you, wouldn’t want you to marry before them or to marry the best man?

7. You Give Everything Out During Dating- As a single lady who has not been taken to the altar, you need to reserve some things for your husband to be, especially your body, respect it and preserve it at all cost. In the past, men rushed to marry to get certain things or privileges they had been constantly denied while being single. Such privileges include and not limited to: constant sex and companionship, good food and tidied home, etc. But today, a single man gets even the best and of course more of constant sex, good food and excellent home-keeping more than his married counterparts, so tell me how the hell you want him to desire to marry you when you have given him virtually everything he desires from a wife while being his girlfriend? And the most painful part of it all is that he knows that you are prepared to cut down on sex supply, cooking, home-keeping, etc once he marries you, so why would he not want you to remain his girlfriend for life?

8. You Package Yourself Wrongly- in your attempt to look sexy, adorable and maybe appealing to guys, you have derailed from appealing to appalling. In fact you look more whorish than modest; more distractive than attractive, and more disgusting than adorable. Your dressing style determines who gets attracted to you most times. If you dress high school, only high school-thinking guys will be attracted to you, and if you dress excessively sexy and provocative, only randy men will come to you for urgent satisfaction of their immediate sex urge, so don’t be fooled by media hyping of certain kinds of dressing, they are meant for certain set of ladies you wouldn't like to be associated with, be careful. Remember, not all clothes that look sexy are good for a seriously searching for a soul mate single lady.

9. You Lack Manner, Character, Wisdom and Good Home Upbringing- definitely, your ‘hot girl’, ‘pretty girl’, ‘sexy girl’ looks will win you so many men; both the good, and the bad, but your inner beauty, your character and manner are the things that will determine whether any of those men would stay or run after accomplishing their evil missions. In order words, do away with nagging, being possessive, challenging with men in negative ways, the mentality of ‘what a man can do a woman can do better’, a lie devil has used to deceive and destroy so many ladies today, please do away with it.

GEJ and his group should give peace a chance and congratulate the re-elected chairman of NGF. Amaechi clearly won this! How on earth could Jang have defeated Amaechi in that kind of election? Abeg, Akpabio and his fellows should go and sleep jor!
Politics / Re: 40 Prisoners Freed In Katsina by highlandre(m): 9:40am On May 16, 2013
I'm impressed by this gesture, particularly with the token given to these ex inmates.

I'm disappointed in the commentator that says the N10,000 given to these people can't help them. For your information, in comparative terms, N10,000 in Katsina is as big as N50,000 in Lagos. Therefore, it will assist them in transporting themselves back home, buying drugs (if need be), and definitely, feeding for some time.

To the freed prisoners, go and sin no more!
