You are : a practicing engineer an engineering student an engineering graduate expecting NYSC call up a serving corp member with Engineering degree Nobody draws on papers any longer. Consider devoting six weekends to learning what will position you for a good/better job. Learn only at a venue and time convenient for you. No merging of student. Against public opinion and massive criticism, the Nigerian Senate has approved the renaming of the University of Lagos (UNILAG) to the Moshood Abiola University (MAU). In a report gathered by Ascology News, the Senate approved the renaming bill which was sent earlier in the week by President Goodluck Jonathan to bypass any embarrassing rejection of the name-change in what many Nigerians saw as illegal and unconstitutional. More to follow. Source: http://ascology.com/news/local-news/25171-Senate-approves-UNILAG-renaming.html |
Reaching the end of a job interview, the Human Resources Department person asked the young engineer, fresh out of MIT, "And what starting salary were you looking for?" The engineer replied, "In the neighborhood of $75,000 a year, depending on the benefits package." The HR person said, "Well, what would you say to a package of five weeks of vacation, fourteen paid holidays, full medical and dental, company matching retirement fund to 50% of salary, and a company car leased every 2 years - say, a red Corvette?" The engineer sat up straight and said, "Wow! Are you kidding?" And, the Human Resources person said, "Of course, but you started it." Check out how engineers laugh it out here http://ning.it/HZsVrH plenty engine jokes |
Nick Fisk, a scientist at Colorado State University, has begun engineering a molecular assembly that works as well as more complex devices to cheaply and quickly detect tuberculosis, which may have uses in the developing world. Fisk, an assistant professor of biological and chemical engineering, has received a $100,000 grant from The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation based on the promise of his research. His methodology is to modify a bacterial virus particle so that it interacts with and identifies active tuberculosis infections without the need for medical facilities or expensive equipment. “A day in the hospital in the U.S., where you are hooked up to all these machines, costs thousands and thousands of dollars,” Fisk said. “For most of the world, people make one-tenth of that in a year. The idea behind the program is to look for new ways of diagnosing and treating these diseases that are inexpensive and work under conditions where you don’t have the medical facilities and even infrastructure like electricity, refrigeration and clean water that we take for granted in America.” The process essentially reproduces what a human immune system does when it comes into contact with a protein present in TB. The research will require the testing of billions of protein variants to find the ones that will react in the appropriate way with the TB protein. Colorado State University is well-known for its tuberculosis research, which includes the testing and development of preventative treatments and potential drugs against the disease. This landmark achievement throws a challenge to the dons in our engineering faculties - to engage in researches which will be of immediate benefit to the Nigerian people and directly affect their lives and living. pics and details at http://ning.it/K1xxSj |
nitrogen: TrafFiKeRThat the poster is or is not a TrafFiKer is not the issue. What's posted is salient. Let's discuss it and leave out the messenger oremisussan: Science, Engineering and Technology (SET) Education provides the Know-How Ability while Science, Engineering and Technology Training provides the Do-How Capability. What you have raised is quite an important one. I think majority of our engineering graduates do not make the best of SIWES. SIWES should go to usher in the one-year internship programme. |
I was dazed when an interviewer asked this question at an interview I attended some days back. I did flop, I knew. So, I posted this discussion on a Nigerian engineers forum and was dazed by some mind blowing responses I got. In two sentences, you tell why Engineers study dy/dx. You may want to see answers to this question proffered by practicing engineers http://go.engineer-ng.net/forum/topics/why-do-nigeria-engineers-study-dy-dx-nigeria-engineering?xg_source=activity. Drop your response on this thread and maybe there. |

But it's such a 'cruel' world that the so pathetically sounding applicant is the one who is being turned down. Don't try to paint yourself so low hoping you going to get someone's pity. Raise your head up high. You can't afford to be a receptionist. While you wai, see this site for core engineering jobs http://ning.it/HZQ2WP. |
careytommy: The problem chemists have with chemical engineers is that they think they know chemistry better than the chemists themselves!I totally agree with you. The depth of Chemistry is with the Chemist. Chemical Engineers are not supposed to show some extra chemistry prowess more than they should show prowess in Physics, Mathematics, Biology and Economics. |

Three engineers and three accountants are traveling by train to a conference. At the station, the three accountants each buy tickets and watch as the three engineers buy only a single ticket. "How are three people going to travel on only one ticket?" asks an accountant. "Watch and you'll see," answers an engineer. They all board the train. The accountants take their respective seats but all three engineers cram into a restroom and close the door behind them. Shortly after the train has departed, the conductor comes around collecting tickets. He knocks on the restroom door and says, "Ticket, please." The door opens just a crack and a single arm emerges with a ticket in hand. The conductor takes it and moves on. The accountants saw this and agreed it was quite a clever idea. So after the conference, the accountants decide to copy the engineers on the return trip and save some money (being clever with money, and all). When they get to the station they buy a single ticket for the return trip. To their astonishment, the engineers don't buy a ticket at all. "How are you going to travel without a ticket?" asked one perplexed accountant. "Watch and you'll see," answered an engineer. When they board the train the three accountants cram into a restroom and the three engineers cram into another one nearby. The train departs. Shortly afterward, one of the engineers leaves his restroom and walks over to the restroom where the accountants are hiding. He knocks on the door and says, "Ticket, please." Believe me, Engineers joke a lot. Need more engineers rib cracking jokes, check http://ning.it/HZsVrH |
