PoliticsRe: What Onnoghen Will Forfeit In 5 Accounts To FG by hischoice(m): 11:22am On Apr 19, 2019
candlewax:
so the government feels that someone in the CJN's category shouldn't have such amount in his account? shocked The whole money is less than N50m.couldnt he have legitimately made N50m all the years in service? It's understandable he erred to not have declared. Banning him for 10years and taking his money is a witch-hunt
You're not getting it still?

It's not the amount of money in the said accounts, it's the shadiness surrounding the non-declaration as at the time of taking office.

The law is the law. It is an ass (donkey), so silly, yet so useful. We would rather not have it another way.

Of course, this story will sell as it's been reported.
But for a moment, back off and dare to ask...
"Could this truly be what he said?"

It's a tough thing to do, but once you get to the position of questioning our 21st century news "facts," you'd be surprised to discover how brilliant you've become.
EducationRe: Is Studying Engineering In Nigeria A Scam? by hischoice(m): 11:43am On Apr 14, 2019
vezycash:
Wrong. We teach old out dated stuff. And even that old one, we don't teach well. I follow foreign curricula and read discussions by foreign students almost every week. The difference is like Heaven and Earth.

The fault's not solely our Universities. Our primary and Secondary schooling is mediocre. Both pupils, students and their teachers are D- levels. The amount of mark padding going on in our private schools is legendary.

Here's a secret, for most secondary / primary schools, the CA for final exam is non-existent. They simply give out 30-40 marks. And then both exam questions and marking are dumbed down.

Nna forget that thing. To practice, you must first know what to practice. The saying, practice makes perfect has been proven wrong. The right thing is - perfect practice make perfect.

I.e. if I shoot a ball blindly 1 million times, I will not magically get better. That's why foreign coaches talk about FORM a lot. They don't mean physical fitness. NO - it's about moving the wrists, legs, muscles in just the right way.
Let me see if we can, at least, have a conversation...

You see those wrists, legs and muscle movements, that is what engineering at undergraduate level should be and is helping you do. Forget your teacher, pick good old books and get grounded in the theories. Please believe me, it appears to me that I am your senior colleague. I hope I'm not wrong.

Most students just don't want to put in that time in studying and understanding the principles. They want to just pass one course at a time, not connecting the dots, graduate and put the blame on their teachers.

Your heat transfer professor knows absolutely nothing outside of heat transfer. So does your Engineering Analysis professor. It's your responsibility as a student to connect both.

After 9 years of my career in engineering simulations, I still find my MTH201 and 202 notes the most priced. They contain quick resource notes to solve analytical problems just to validate computer generated simulations.

Eigenvalues. Does that sound familiar?

EducationRe: Is Studying Engineering In Nigeria A Scam? by hischoice(m):
I hate to spoil your mojo but engineering curriculum is same world-wide.

Three, four or five years of university engineering study at undergraduate level is built on the studies of heat transfer and thermodynamics. Every other subject is a derivative of those.

Where the problem lies in Nigeria's specific case are the embedded silly art subjects like Use of English and Philosophy of God's existence (jokes on COREN).

What could have been used in keeping the lads more in Thermo and Engineering Analysis classes, they spend with children of Karl Marx.

And by the way, you will never make sense of engineering until you graduate and start practicing... And that applies to everyone, irrespective of where you studied.

So my take is for the curriculum to be re-jigged to allow
more study of core engineering pricincples. They are theories. Yes, they are supposed to be so. Get grounded in the theories of Lagrange and Echelons, you will find them handy if you ever find yourself in a career involving engineering simulations.

What if far below average or poor educational foundation students were pushed to you to lecture, will you open their heads and put the knowledge?
Most of you commenting here have never been to the north.
Well, I am a northerner. And that rhetoric about "north and poor education" is not only stale, it's also untrue.

Nonetheless, this is ABU, a university whose admission is not restricted to the "dull" northern students; a university that produced 17 elected governors in 1999. Trust me, PHY122 is the least subject you would expect students with A's and B's in O'level math and physics to fail at that rate.

Meanwhile, the university has issued a statement offering to look into that abnormal failure rate.
EducationRe: Physics ABU Zaria Bad Result (Photo) by hischoice(m): 8:16am On Apr 13, 2019
It's your job as a lecturer to teach us to understand. That's what you're being paid for.
So, if a large chunk of us don't understand, so badly, that we failed your subject, it calls to question your ability to teach. You have not justified your renumeration.

Joshmodest:
To be candid fraud ain't right, and no one is expecting Simi to come out and say it is , but as a public figure there are things , you shouldn't talk about , especially for a secular musician like herself....There is nothing wrong in acting like you don't know it exists , Davido and Wizkid the big guys would never say a thing about fraud !! Cos they really don't have to , they are musicians and not moralists , thier job is to make good music and that's all , when an artist begins to talk about issues beyond music he/she is loosing focus.....
As an artist you don't talk about sensitive issues like drug dealings , LGBT , religion , and in Nigeria Yahoo....
What is wrong is wrong but sometimes certain issues are better left untouched for your interest and well-being... prior to her post nobody knew or wanted to know her stance on fraud !
No songs about religion, sex, drugs, crime...?
Then what's left to sing about for a secular musician? Sign language singing?

You actually shouldn't be shy about positioning yourself on those issues through your acts. It's, in fact, what you should be doing.

Everything in Nigeria will kill you.

She didn't die because she was serving. She died because she was traveling; which she probably would have, even if there was no NYSC.

Make the roads good, drivers are badly (if at all) trained.

Get properly trained drivers behind the steering, the cars are not road worthy.

Get road worthy cars, passengers won't stop loading beyond the maximum allowable payload.

Everything. Everything in Nigeria will kill you.

I'm not critiquing your opinion, but she is an artist. do you expect her to venture into STEM, against her interest or specialization . she is giving what she's got. I get the fact that you'r being objective with you opinion. but the best way to pass messages like this is to come up with a phenomenal prototype of what you opting for. you can be the one to start such era of evolution you know. its just that all we know how to do is point out flaws without making effort to see how we can contribute in correcting them... If we love our country, we won't let the government limit our impact in it.

Miss chidimma, You are awesomely creative. keep improving on your forte. Your talent is still very valuable and well needed and would always be needed for an all round advancement of this country.. You could be the one to put this nation in the global spotlight of advancement in art..
I love your story and work.. keep developing
Productive engagement is listening while, at the same time, demanding being listened to. This you have done in a manner expected of a adult. I do not take that for granted.

I respect your opinion.

EducationRe: What Do First Class Graduates Do Different From Other 2.1 Students? by hischoice(m): 5:47pm On Mar 23, 2019
BabangidaHamza:
Please my only advice is that grade don't matters when it comes to university nowadays.. You might graduate with first class and still got no job.. Some first class students always believed that their grade will help them get automatic job from the university which is not true.. Just graduate, if u can invest in business invest, if u c work go do.. But if u allow first class mentality take over u, d person wey dey push wheelbarrow get future pass u
Grades do matter. Ain't nothing wrong having "a first-class mentality." That, in fact, is what we all should strive for - Excellence.

Don't let mediocrity sit well with you because "first-class graduates might struggle for a job." I don't know why that narrative is a reason to not pursue excellence, especially amongst Nigerians.

CareerRe: Should I Quit The Job. Please Help I Am Lost? by hischoice(m):
Na people wey no get job go first advise you make you quit.

Top on the mind of a business owner is the survival of his business.

Sad as it may sound, it might not be in his business model to consider employee satisfaction a key to the survival of his business. Who are you to teach him otherwise? It's worked for him so far. Go start your own business and model it as you wish he would. Compete against him, if you may.

Secondly, it's not within your call to weigh the buoyancy of his business based on his lifestyle or his other engagements.

Do the job you're being paid for. If he falls short of his contractual agreement, bring his knowledge to it. Engage a lawyer (pro bono plenty for Nigeria).

Treat the service you offer as trading by barter.

I get corn, you get pepper.
You want + I want = We want.

Else, we waka.

He's not got that charisma of Tinubu yet that mass of followers who, come what may, would die for him. And I don't mean the so-called "illiterate" northerners, I am talking about ivy league graduates and leaders of thought.

Once you dig Buhari, you don't go back.

Whoever inherits Buhari's followers, in his demise, inherits a gold mine.

Only God knows where these people get their genre of Christianity from.
SportsRe: Dolores Aveiro: Cristiano Ronaldo’s Mother, Reacts To His Rape Accusations by hischoice(m):
That part: "I know the son I have" is quite loaded. It came immediately after "...It wasn't to play cards. It was to do something."

It tells of a mother who knows she gave birth to a complete man, and would rather have beat the hell out of Ronaldo if he had just played cards with the lady.
