I was in church today and was verse of the Bible was quoted by my pastor: 1 Samuel 17:36 ► "Your servant has struck down both lions and bears, and this uncircumcised Philistine (Goliath) shall be like one of them, for he has defied the armies of the living God.”

This statement bothered me because I did my masters in the UK in Zoology, and distinctly remembered learning that Lions are mainly found in Africa, and a tiny species in only India. The rest are found in zoos. Now could a lion be in Israel? And then, the word "Bears" also confused me. There are different types of bears in Asia, and I learn years ago that they are called Asian black bears, and they are only found in a different topography of Asia, and never in the Middle East, and the Asian Black Bears only feed on fruits, grasses, and insects, and could have never been a treat to David sheep. And these bears are only found in China, Bangladesh, and Russia, and they are the size of Pandas.

I dont often question the teachings of the Bible, but this gross discrepancy got me confused. And please dont tell me I dont have faith, my entire families are Christian, and my own father was the pastor who quoted this verse this morning while preaching in his church. I need an explanation.

The Israel that King David lived in is not the same Israel of the 21st century. 1 Samuel was written in 550BC, which was thousands of years ago, so obviously there are things that were true about ancient Israel that aren't true about modern day Israel.

For instance, I heard that lions used to be in my village in Delta State during the days of my grandfather. But today there are no more lions there.

When it comes to a belief in a god, i think most unbelievers like myself would be honest enough to say they don't know what would count as “convincing evidence".

This isn't because we're dishonest or simply don't want to believe. It's because the concept of a god, or what a god is supposed to be, is not well defined. At least to us.

So it's hard to say you've received convincing evidence for something when you don't even know what the something is supposed to be.

In regards to the current available evidence, It doesn't seem to count as proof of the type of god theists define. They often make big jumps in logic, in order to arrive at their conclusions, rather than proof

When it comes to religion, especially in Nigeria, questioning your specific religion or beliefs is something that's usually frowned upon. In any civilized society, it definitely shouldn't be the case.

I'm not here to try and sway anyone away from what they believe in. I just want people who have questions to know its okay to have those questions. And if they're willing to seek answers objectively, its possible to do so too.

I'll also be creating some more topics on the different aspects of religion, and belief in God/gods in general, as time goes on.

My goal is to have honest, open-minded discussions on topics like this. Stay tuned for more. Peace

There is a common misconception that Hell doesn't exist and all references to this place in Scripture is actually a metaphor for the grave. This train of thought is common among a cult know as the Jehovah's Witnesses.

But the truth is that Hell is indeed a place where people are currently and the following Scripture makes it clear

2Pe 2:4 For if God did not spare angels when they sinned, but sent them to hell, putting them into gloomy dungeons to be held for judgment;

Hell, based on the above Scripture is a literal place where there are literal Angels reserved in chains for the day of Judgement. Note that the Scripture makes it clear that they have not been judged yet. A parallel Scripture would be the one below

Jud 1:6 And the angels who did not keep their positions of authority but abandoned their own home--these he has kept in darkness, bound with everlasting chains for judgment on the great Day.

Let me mention again that Hell is not the final abode of the wicked. The following Scripture tells us what will happen on the day of Judgement

Rev 20:13 And the sea gave up the dead in it. And death and hell gave up the dead in them. And they were each judged according to their works.
Rev 20:14 And death and hell were thrown into the Lake of Fire. This is the second death.

Hell is a place that currently holds not only Angels, but humans also. The story of the rich man and Lazarus found in Luke 16 makes this clear.

Hell is a place bad people go to when they die. Man is a spirit and there several Scriptures that prove this emphatically. When man dies his spirit departs from his body and goes to either Heaven or Hell to await the day of Judgement.

Now one reason why people say that God couldn't have created Hell is because they believe that Hell paints God in a bad light. On the contrary, I actually believe that Hell actually makes God out to be a really awesome person! Why do I say that? For the following reasons

1. The existence of Hell shows that God hates evil and shows just how much He hates it. The fact that He is willing to let the wicked rot there for eternity shows that He indeed has strong hatred for evil and this, I believe, shows just how good He is.

2. God loves evil people and doesn't want them to go to hell. In fact, Scripture tells us that God is saddened by the death of evil people. God doesn't enjoy watching His creation suffer in Hell.

3. God has made it clear in Scripture that He doesn't want any human to go there. In fact, Scripture tells us that Hell was originally prepared for the Devil and his angels and when man rebelled against God, he too became destined to go there.

4. God has made a way for all to escape Hell through His Son Jesus. You don't have to go to hell. You can live forever with God. God has made a way for this to be so by placing faith in His Son Jesus.

Hell is real! Don't let the Jehovah's Witnesses and Annihilationists deceive you. Don't listen to people like Kobojunkie that have a twisted interpretation of Scripture.

The Windows-10 in my computer failed to sign-in after I had successfully inputted my CORRECT password.

I have already tried to log in more than 120 times, but it is refusing to sign me in, and now, I cannot use my computer again.

It continued returning with the response:
“The User Profile Service service failed the sign-in.”

The exact same thing happened to me yesterday.

In my own case I don't have a password on my system. So when I failed to sign in, I just turned off my laptop.

When I turned it back on, I noticed that all my files were gone and my laptop was reset. My life saver was the fact that my hard drive was partitioned, so my major files were still there. Later I found out that the files on the other half of my hard drive I thought were gone were actually just moved to a different path.

So I tried to start setting up my laptop to the way it was before the reset and when I was done working on my laptop I signed out.

By the time I signed back in I found that my laptop had been restored to the way it was before the reset and all my files were back to their original destinations and everything was just as if nothing had happened to my system.

I believe this all happened because my hard drive was partitioned. I wonder what would have happened if it wasn't partitioned.. I would have probably permanently lost all my files.

Many of their other doctrines are not biblical either.
