Seen it too. US Navy's Virginia Class is quite highly rated with a lot of secret high tech features. But almost any modern nuclear sub can cross the polar caps since their ranges are unlimited. Astute Class has about the best sonar; can detect a ship in New York harbour while it is in English Channel. But I don't know what "extra" feature this new Russian boat is bringing onboard that both other two sub's don't have already. Best is that it has improved "noiseless" jet propulsion system , which the other two also have.

I have searched online for parameters to rate these submarines acoustic signature in water, but they are not easily available. Guess they are classified. This leaves these claims of being "quietest" subjective.

I'd love to compare this new Russian sub with British Astute class sub along with USS Seawolf (Virginia Class) sub. These arr thought to be the most advanced submarines currently serving in any navy in the world.

In other words, it is not only a carrier visiting you, but a whole battle group. Usually, a battel group consists of a carrier, complement of destroyers, frigates, oilers, and submarines. A panoply of naval war vessels numbering between 10-15 - all working together as a battle group. That's almost 10,000 sailors, marines, SFs, and complement of technicians, engineers, and allied services moving together. The battlegroup is designed to defend itself, and basically a floating armed men that can start a war on order of president of US on its own, or defend itself from any enemy aggression and fight back effectively until support arrives from nearest formation.

Given the two points above, it can be seen that sinking Nimitz is as good as beating d defence of about 15 highly capable vessels working in synch.

Yes, it can be beaten. But no sane country wants a US Navy battle group sitting off its water in offensive mode.

The carrier could have been in the gulf as a psychological boost or to provide logistics support, but not for tactical reason because it is not yet so equipped.
