Eguma shocked at Tornadoes’ antics
by Sammy Wejinya 05 December 2010, 18:21

Two-time Nigeria Premier League (NPL) Coach of the week, Stanley Eguma has labeled players, officials and fans of Niger tornadoes of Minna a disgrace to Nigerian football. Eguma’s outburst follows the highly controversial 1-0 loss of Dolphin to Tornadoes at the Mamman Kontagora Stadium on Saturday.

The Dolphin Coach did not spare the officials of the game as he accused them of colluding with the home side to deny his side a result in Minna.

“Since I began coaching, I had experienced anything like that. The game was played for a hundred and fifteen minutes.

Fans were pelting my players with missiles and rocks. My goalkeeper (Sunday Rotimi) even fainted, yet the officials did not think it wise to call off the game,” he lamented.

The Dolphin Manager was even more pained with the manner in which Tornadoes got their only goal. Keeper Rotimi appeared to have been unfairly bludgeoned by two opposing attackers but the referee waved play on much to the chagrin of the former Enyimba Coach.

“That goal was a sham. Rotimi went up for a cross but was violently knocked away, mid air by two tornadoes strikers who looked towards the referee expecting him to blow for a foul. When the referee waved play on, the surprised players carried on and tapped the ball into an unguarded net. This is very bad for our football,” he said.

Dolphin has already lodged a formal protest with the Nigeria Premier League (NPL) and Eguma wants the authourities to take action on what he describes as a “test case”.

“I spoke to Tunji Babalola (top official of the NPL) on Saturday night and he said they (NPL) would have to receive the report of the match officials, independent assessors and match commissioner before deliberating on the issue.

We are waiting patiently. This is a test case and if the matter is not dealt with objectively, the credibility of Nigerian football will be rubbished,” he said.

Dolphin were top of the standings before the kickoff of round five games in the league but the Port Harcourt side now look set to drop down the table following their loss in Minna.

Siasia disappoints Port Harcourt fans
by Sammy Wejinya 05 December 2010, 18:25

Super Eagles Coach, Samson Siasia disappointed his fans who thronged to the Sharks Stadium on Saturday to catch a glimpse of their hero.

A statement from the Nigeria football federation (NFF) stated that Siasia would be at the stadium for the Nigeria Premier League (NPL) game between Sharks and Sunshine Stars.

Siasia however made a no-show much to the disappointment of the fans.

“I know he was in Port Harcourt today (Saturday),” said one of the fan who gave his name as Godspower “soccer fire” Kokoriko .

“He even took part in a radio programme in Port Harcourt this morning so for him to have stayed away from such an explosive game leaves a sour taste in the mouth. How do you think the local players will feel especially with whispers that foreign based players are the only ones fit for the national team?” he queried.

Siasia is expected to be a guest at the Enyimba Stadium in Aba for Sunday’s big game between Enyimba and Shooting Stars.

It is not yet clear if the Super Eagles Coach would turn up.

Gombe Utd ready to keep NPL top spot
by George Akpayen 05 December 2010, 18:31

It may sound strange but Gombe United have declared that they would want to remain on top of the Nigeria Premier League (NPL) till the end of this year after toppling Dolphins Football Club at the summit on Saturday following their one-nil triumph over Ocean Boys at the Tafawa Balewa Stadium in Bauchi.

Gombe United coach, Bernard Ogbe, told SuperSport.com after his side edged Ocean Boys by Mustapha Babadidi’s strike 12 minutes to full time that the Scorpions have the ingredients to remain top of the Premier League till the end of this year.

“I am happy that we have shown this season that we are one of the teams that can compete at the very highest level. But it is surprising that no one is giving us that chance and that is even good because we are not under pressure,” the former Akwa United coach said.

When prodded further by SuperSport.com, he said: “I have faith in this team and the management just as they have same in me. And that is why I can say that we can remain top till the end of the season provided we go away and pick points, which is very possible with the way the league is going now.”

Next week, the Scorpions head to Ijebu-Ode to face the Premier League’s most physical side, Sunshine Stars and Ogbe rose up to say that his men are ready for the rough and tumble style of Gbenga Ogunbote’s side.

Ogbe added that he will send out his team to go out for all points on December 12 when they face Sunshine Stars at the Gateway International Stadium in Ijebu-Ode.

“We will not go there to defend. I know they are a very strong, physical team but we will be ready for that kind of style,” he said.

Gombe United currently have 10 points from five matches.

True talk, but have you considered allowing self-nominations,that way we'll have as many nominations as possible, then leave the electorate to make their choice via the soon-to-be-added poll
Ok, i think i should modify the rules so we can get more nominees, yes you can nominate yourself and infact you can nominate more than one nominee.

How about that?

We need more nominee, we need more names, this is a general sport section, not just football, we need nominees with at least more valid and reasonable contribution to more than 1 kind of sporting activities.

^^ Rivers state government own both clubs. Dolphins at that point in time were topping the league with 6 points while Sharks were down the table with 2 points.
I think the motive behind the match fixing was just to get Sharks some valuable 3 points and get them off the foot of the table
And they must have projected into the future, that 3 point is likely to get them something at the end of the season.
