HOME > NEWS > CAPS UTD STILL IN THE HUNT CAPS Utd still in the hunt RELATED STORIES Ejiogu the hero in Enyimba win CAF Confed rookies hold Tunisian giants CAF Cup enters Last 16 phase Third round CAF draws Birds crash as SuperSport progress RELATED CLUB NEWS CAPS United still in the hunt CAPS Utd still in the hunt Posted: 2010-05-10 12:43 Zimbabwe’s CAPS United beat Warri Wolves of Nigeria 2-0 courtesy a goal in each half from Nyasha Mushekwi and Leonard Tsipa to progress to the next round of the CAF Confederations Cup 3-2 on aggregate. Former African champions, Enyimba, however, produced one of the major comebacks in continental club football at the weekend to seal their place at the next round of the competition. Trailing 0-3 from the leg, Enyimba overturned the result with a 3-0 win in normal time before edging out Congolese outfit AS Vita Club 9-8 on penalties. Surprise-packets AS FAN of Niger maintined their impressive run by managing a barren draw in Kinshasa against another DR Congo side Motema Pembe to advance 1-0 on aggregate. The losses leave DR Congo without any representative in the second-tier continental club championships. The biggest casualty was holders Stade Malien, who could only settle for a 0-0 drawn game with visiting FUS Rabat of Morocco. The latter advanced 2-0 on aggregate. Twice winners, CS Sfaxien beat Egyptian debutants Petrojet by a lone goal to advance 2-1 on aggregate. Chadi Hammami scored the only goal of the match eight minutes from time. Egyptian side Haras El-Hodoud recorded the widest margin victory after beating Simba SC of Tanzania 5-1 to qualify 6-3 on aggregate. Striker Ahmed Anbdulghani scored a hat-trick whilst Ahmed Mekki grabbed a brace with Emmanuel Okwi netting a consolation for the Tanzanians. Former Algerian champions CR Belouizdad were the first to qualify for the next round after beating Sudanese side Al-Amal 2-0. Soufiane Mebarki scored after 13 minutes before Seddik Beraaja sealed victory on 76 minutes as the CR Belouizdad marched on 2-1 on aggregate. |
This is truly a group of death, Heartland is in trouble, what kinda thing is this? Heartland in the midst of 3 northern clubs? ahhhhhhh ![]() |

SuperSport may stop CAF participation Posted: 2010-05-11 16:15 Reigning PSL champions SuperSport United are likely to snub next season's CAF Champions League after their third round exit at the hands of Nigerian outfit Heartland. The Matsatsantsa players have complained of being fed just bread during their pre-match meal, but the club’s commercial manager Jose Ferreira says that’s not the sticking point. “Certainly, what happened to us in Nigeria raised question marks about our future participation,” Ferreira tells KickOff.com. SuperSport United were informed on match-day that kick-off time had been changed to an hour earlier. “It is about things like changing the kick-off time on the day of the match, which is contravention of the Fifa and CAF regulations, that kind of stuff,” he says. SuperSport apparently spent R500 000 on travel costs to get the team down to Owerri in Nigeria and Ferreira believes the tournament is not worth it. “No, it is not worth it. You spend a lot of money on the worst-run organisation in the world. It is not a competition worthy of its name. You can’t change kick-off time on the day of the match, you can’t, but that’s what happens at CAF. We will seriously consider our future participation,” Ferreira adds. SuperSport have now dropped down to the CAF Confederation Cup and if they don’t honour it, they will cop a three-year ban. However, if they choose not to play from the start in next year’s CAF Champions League, there will be no ban. SuperSport, along with seven other teams that came unstuck in the weekend’s Champions League matches, now drop down to the CAF CConfederation Cup. |

would you call a player that scored 15 times in a league like Nigerian league an overhyped player? i bet you won't score 2 chances out of 10 in our league if you intend to play there. |
Cappadona123:man, they have highly rated players and i see them beating Enyimba, if kaduna united could beat them at home, pillars is capable too. man, you just have to be interested in the league to see the beauty of the undiscovered talents. semid4lyfe:we know that Mr preacher, see as heartland beat una, i see pillars beating una again ![]() |
