Court to rule on missing NFF money

Posted: 2010-04-29 16:34

An Abuja Magistrate Court will on May 26 hand down its ruling in the case of $236 000 stolen from the NFF offices last year.

The Accounts Department of the NFF was broken into, and the money stolen from one of the drawers in March 2009. Around 17 staff of the federation were arrested and charged to court, including Super Eagles team Secretary Achor Enebi.

Enebi, along with Yahaya Adamu, Rajan Zaka and Ahmed Yusuf, all of the NFF's Accounts Department were cleared of any wrongdoing by the court last October.

But the others are now to face Judge David Ochonma of the Wuse Magistrate Court next month.

Sports Minister Isa Nio has made it clear that investigations have been concluded and all those found guilty by the court would be appropriately punished.

Falcons' Uche Eucharia on exclusion of stars

Super Falcons coach Uche Eucharia says she left out her host of Europe-based players for the friendly against North Korea because time was too short.

Eucharia led her team out on Wednesday for a two-legged friendly against the Asians in Pyongyang next week, but has to do so with a vastly inferior squad, excluding the likes of Perpetua Nkwocha and Cynthia Uwak, both former African Players of the Year.

"The invitation was very sudden, so we have to make do with the players available to us now. That is why most of the key players are missing," she said.

But the coach accepted that the situation could turn out to be a blessing in disguise.

"We can now use the opportunity to play the ones we have been monitoring and training since last year and see if they can make it to the main squad."

The first match against the North Koreans will take place in Pyongyang on Sunday while the second match will take place next Tuesday as the Nigerians prepare for their African Women Championship qualifier against Ivory Coast next month.

At last, NPL credits Ahmed Musa with 15 goals
Filed under Uncategorized 3 comments

The controversy that broke out over the legitimacy of the 15 goals scored by Kano Pillars’ attacking winger, Ahmed Musa, in this season’s campaign has ended after the Nigeria Premier League (NPL) credited the teenage player with same number of goals.

After disputing the fact that Musa’s total goals for this season stood at 14, the media department of the NPL sent an email to Naijaligue..com on statistics of the top-flight for this season and acknowledged that the former Jos University Teaching Hospital (JUTH) Football Club man had scored 15 goals.

In the email sent, the NPL only mentioned the two top scorers Musa of Kano Pillars with 15 goals and Enyimba’s Osas Idehen with 10 leaving out Eugene Salami of Niger Tornadoes, who has scored same number of goals with Idehen. Premier League Executive Secretary, Alhassan Yakmut, ended the controversy over the total goals of Musa by confirming that the pacy striker that he has 15 goals to his name.

Yakmut, who is acting as sole administrator of the Premier League in the absence of a board, is hoping that Musa would become the first player to surpass the 17-goal record held by Ishaya Jatau and equalled by former Akwa United man, Akarandut Orok.

“Yes he has 15 goals,” Yakmut confirmed to Naijaligue..com on Thursday morning from Abuja on telephone. “We’re happy for him and hope he becomes the first player to score more than 17 goals in a single season. It is quite astonishing that the statistics in the league for this season is one of the best I’ve witnessed in a long time. More away wins, and the technical input of players is impressive.”

But the NPL scribe did not want to go into details over how the league arbiter failed to keep accurate track of the number of goals scored by Musa in this season’s campaign so far.

However, the Kano Pillars’ striker was happy that the controversy over the number of goals he has scored so far in the 39-week old championship is over.

Musa also thanked the media for standing up in defence of the number of goals he has scored, adding that he still has his eyes set on hitting the 20-goal mark by the end of the season.

“I am happy that they (the NPL) have realised that they made a mistake. I think you people (the media) have done well concerning this and I am happy. This will encourage me to score more goals and I pray that I can score 20 goals that is if I get the chance to play,” he told Naijaligue..com.

Coach of the team, Salisu Yusuf, expressed shock at the initial position of the NPL concerning Musa’s goal haul.

Speaking with naijapremierleague.com. he said: “There shouldn’t be any debate at all. The boy has scored 15 goals. In fact, only two are from penalties.”

According to the records kept by Naijaligue..com, Musa scored just four goals last year but hit a rich vein of form from January this year by scoring another 11. But Musa has not scored since April 3 and it is believed that his engagement with the Super Eagles Team B at the recent edition of the WAFU Nations Cup may have robbed him of the chance to add to his 15 goals.

The NPL has ran into problems with managing statistics of the top-flight and had to rely on evidence from Akwa United to prove that Orok scored 17 goals.

But Dominique its got its own negative as I've alluded earliar, Caf lack of organisation and investement in Africa and the fact that corruption is rife, referees decide the winner before kickoff and just plain cheating and intimidation make Caf competitions for South Africans less appealing and it is wrong.

The perception in the country is that inorder to win in Africa you must buy referees, intimidate the visitors and do other unsporting things.Unlike West and North Africans,South Africans are new into the whole thing, even if they wanted to do it,they've got no connections.Look at age cheating, everybody send player twice their age, what do we do we tried to cheat by send players who are older by not more than two years, and to top it up we go for players who are shorter in order to try to decieve people. grin Other nations send their big and old guys as long as their passport say 15 years who and how will you challenge them? grin
The bolded parts are not really right bro, wherever you got that notion from, it's wrong, when it comes to CAF, it's very rare to hear of cases where caf refs are being bribed by home team just to win a match or have you heard of any case before (facts needed) and even if it occurred, i guess it's not that rampant as you are making it sound. remember that even in Europe (UCL and EUROPA), REFS officiate so badly, yet Romanian teams or danish teams ad others do not stop trying to qualify to play in the tourney.
