Lars Lagerback to meet Super Eagles in Abuja Lagerback to meet Eagles in Abuja Posted: 2010-04-26 11:56 Lars Lagerback's planned introductory meeting with his squad will now hold in Abuja next month following the refusal of European clubs to release players for this week. The Nigeria coach has yet to meet with his team with just over two months to the World Cup and had planned the London gathering to speak with his players. NFF President Sani Lulu Abdullahi however said over the weekend that that arrangement had to be shelved. "The clubs have told us that they are at a very critical stage in the season and cannot afford to release their players even for one day to travel to London, so we decided to reschedule the meeting," Lulu said. The new date is now expected to be between May 19 and 20 with the players scheduled to be hosted to a farewell dinner on the night of May 20 before heading off to London for their planned camping and friendly international against Colombia the day after. "The Abuja meeting is very central to the World Cup plans of the NFF," Lulu said. "At the meeting, we will make everything clear to the players regarding camp allowances, match bonuses and the philosophy of the World Cup programmes." http://kickoffnigeria.com/news/15070/lagerback-to-meet-eagles-in-abuja.phpThis is just a nice way of throwing away $1.3 million. This man earns $200,000 every month for 5 months doing nothing for God's sake. $300,000 for sign on fees. Was he paid $1.3 million to be making phone calls to players Is this not a ticket to failure? 44 days, no friendlies yet, no warm up matches, the players are yet to know eachother in person, Gosh!!!!! |

12large: boy chill out most of the 15 matches are either substitue or few minutes. so if martins can score 1 goal in 106minutes then he could be able to score 30goals in 35games when he was playing full time football at Inter and Newcastle, he didn't score 30goals in 35 matches, so then do you think it's possible for him to score 30goals in 35 matches now? |

RSA: Look I know you know football and I don't make excuses but some of key Supersport players are in Germany with the national team on camp and also you don't expect South African teams to beat every team in Africa because they have top infrustracture and earn big Salaries.Football is won on the pitch and a little bit of luck sometimes it's all it take.
For the past four years Tottenham,Portsmouth,Man United have visited South Africa for their pre season training and played competitive football with local teams and where beaten but one player from their team can buy the whole team of local teams. So I don't think is about money,But we do have talent and could dominate Africa if things are fair. These reason are enough for me to have asked why SA clubs are not making waves in Africa (in general), with all these exposure, yet you can't stamp your foot on African club football. |

chidichris: @honeric01, if u have been following my posts on nairaland, i always rejoice over the death of every politician in nigeria. all i am saying is this, let there be a law that is functional and effective. let that law work for each an everyone of them. the idea of 36 states, 36 laws have never, is never and will never help nigeria. obasanjo and ribadu probed abacha's family and recovered some funds, yes, but where is the funds? what about the other presidents? at the end of the day, how did that solve the problems of looting among our politicians? if u will say the truth, it rather increased the looting party as non of all the politicians under obasanjo is poor as we write now. if it is taking all these long to look for ibori, if every nigerian must get involved in the arrest of ibori, calculate how many iboris we have in nigeria and multiply it with this lenght of time and u will agree with me that corruption will take eternity to leave nigeria. it is important we try to seperate the war for loyality from the war against corruption. those who are fighting this war on corruption are even on the list of corrupt politicians directly or indirectly. the diplomatic removal of yar adua and skillful presentation of jonathan has officially bring back the reign of obasanjo. the dictector is back. if there is any war niger delta indigens shld be fighting now, it shld be the war of liberation especially now our person is there but what do we have here, a house that is didvided against itself. a man who is out to be used against his ppl. this war against ibori will at the end of the day, be all we benefit from the time jonathan serve as the acting president of nigeria. the wait by easterners will continue till God knows when. Tafa Balogun was probed and jailed, same with Alarm, Bode George e.t.c, why should Ibori's own be different? imagine someone being promised not guilty of 171 counts, not guilty of none by an Asaba based court, isn't that criminal enough? please, i no wan talk too much, THE MONEY SHOULD NOT BE RECOVERED, IT'S OF NO USE TO US, WHAT I WANT IS FOR HIM TO JUST DIE AND GO ONCE AND FOR ALL, I WISH CORRUPT PEOPLE LIKE THESE WOULD BE KILLED and not jailed. In Japan, most of their corrupt officials found guilty always commit suicide out of shame, but in Nigeria, they get more popular and more influential through crimes and looting, this should stop and the solution is shoot at sight (even if it's 1 man count)!!! |

chic2pimp: You bet they are. They are pratically relying on Lazio to do them a favour by beating Inter and there is no way that's going to happen. The Lazio fans will skin their players alive if they win that match. why would lazio fan skin their players alive for wining inter? is it because Roma beat them? |

RSA: It is only a matter of time before South African teams start dominating Africa, our league is one of the best but our teams never took African competitions seriously until now. I know that two years ago things where too bad in African competitions, corruption was rife and obvious, pitches where poor and treatment was as bad but things are starting to change and as South Africans we are starting to take interest in this competitions.Orlando Pirates have won Champions league before in 1995,beating Asec Mimosa for the tittle and in 2001 Mamelodi Sundowns where beaten by Al Alhly of Egypt in the Final.
So you see that we are not far off.Just sit and watch us.South Africans don't just say they do. abeg bro, with all the sponsors, good pitches, nice facilities, una still no get mouth for African football, imagine a club coming from a "bad" pitch country to score first at your "good" pitch, supersport of all club, i think they have won more league title in 10yrs than any other club in SA right? |

chidichris: @honeric01, may God forgive u because u do not know the implication of the prayer u have just said. who among our politicians is clean? if u support ribadu, el rufai, obasanjo or even any politician in nigeria, your prayer will work perfectly in your situation. i am not here to support anyone but all am saying is, if the law of this country is one, let it be used in all circustances. obasanjo and co have remained untouchable while telling uis ibori this, ibori that. who is responsible for all the funds spent on our refinaries, electricity supply, security and road reconstructions in the last ten years? if the criminal gangs in nigeria are to be arranged according to their ranks, i will bet with my life that ibori can never be anywhere close to no 20. I don't care and if i am given the opportunity to pray that prayer again, i won't hesitate to because i don't support any politicians, i only appreciate and admirers whatever they are able to do for the masses, yes 90% of politicians are wicked and are near criminals, i still won't change my stand about them because it hurts me to see us lavish in basic lack when few are taking the rest for a ride. THE MONEY IBORI STOLE IS AMONG THE TOP 20 OF CRIMINALS IN NIGERIA POLITICS. |

semid4lyfe: Hmmm. . . .not sure about Batholomew Ibenegbu being a dead ball specialist but if indeed he can curve direct free-kicks over a wall & score (Does he score goals this way for Heartland & did he score any goal like this in the WAFU championship?. . .one of his goals was a near post header I recollect) and deliver inch-perfect crosses like Beckham, then he deserves to be in the final-23 man list. You guys should be careful with the way you hype these local players, remember the way thankgod ike was hyped prior to the 44 man list submission, he screwed up at the big occasion where he was suppose to make name for himself, let them prove themselves to the coach on their own when friendlies are being played, then the coach'll decide if he needs them in his plan. |

dominique: not an heartland fan but i congratulate the draw. e no easy defeating drawing with back-to-back champs. hope they stay focused and win the return leg.
abi o! back-to-back champs my foot, they can keep winning their local title every year for 100yrs but when it comes to African football, SA clubs are minors and can never be put on the same isle with clubs from the north and west of Africa. |

dominique: i don't believe pillars have a better away record than Enyimba. kwara, yes but definitely not pillars. shucks. why did they have to lose with such a wide margin . makes me miss the days of joetex frimpong, muri ogunbyi et al but God dey sha. . . there's still the return leg . looks like pillars won 2 away, Enyimba 3 away, Kwara 3 away, the ones they drew away might be why they are where they are on the table now. the problems with Nigerian clubs are their inability to keep their best legs and the lack of paying them well, they always sell out their best legs almost every end of the season which is not good for our football. |

ogazi007: Abidal would be fine, they rested him for precautionary measure. Yaya earned himself a place in my first eleven against Inter, few inaccurate passes but the guy played very well in espanyol and xerez game. yaya-xavi-busquet in the middle should locked the game for us and there is no room for mistake as abidal is starting ahead of maxwell, ibra on the bench for henry/bojan to head the attack. uhmm |

(May God punish all those who conspire either by direct support or indirect support for looters and murderers against the masses of this country. AMEN!!! |
