PoliticsRe: Caverton Helicopters VS Wike: Why Many Businesses Prefer Lagos by HopeAtHand: 8:25pm On Apr 09, 2020
9jatriot:
Port Harcourt as well as Warri used to be the darling state of many big and small oil and gas companies just a few years ago, but that is no longer the case because of similar situation as the one orchestrated by Wike in grounding the operations of Caverton Helicopters.

In spite of the multiple taxation in Lagos, the hold up, the many peculiar challenges in Lagos, many companies will rather have their businesses located in Lagos perceived to be the land of the "godfather" than in these places where their operation takes place.

Even indigenes of some of these places will rather leave their families in Lagos as they continue to work in locations like PH.

Caverton Helicopters has no choice because of their operation but to continue to operate in Port Harcourt anyway since they have no choice, but look at the ripple effect, many investors will remember this in future and locate their businesses in states where the state governor cannot just come and close their shop.

Those pilots presently under arrest pay the pensonal income tax to Rivers state, which means for every company that could have located their businesses in Rivers state but did not, that is an IGR lost and you wonder why our states are not innovative.
When you take weed and other hards drugs, any rubbish that enters your mind, you come on Nairaland and type it.

The govt of Rivers State in fighting the Covid-19 pandemic has ordered the closure of all land and sea borders in Rivers and has instructed that all passengers coming through flight should be examined to know their status before entry to the state.

The FG did not liase with the RVSG as regards the manifest and the state govt asked Caverton to produce their manifest and they refused citing an exclusive list. In this times when governments are fighting this Covid-19 pandemic, it is expedient that laid down guidelines and laws are followed to the letter.

Trying to blackmail Rivers with your write-up is both immoral and insensitive.

Lagos has the capacity to produce 25,000 barrels per day of crude oil. This discovery was made in 2016 by yinka folawiyo petroleum limited around the Badagry area.production was planned to start early this year after 3-4 years of field development.
Chai, it's a shame. Tut they were actually in production. So since 2015 they claimed to have oil, it's still hovering in the fragments of imagination.

There has already been a cut in oil production from Nigeria, mostly from Rivers and Delta state. Nigetia eont shake because of any halt in oil production and this is the reason:All these borrowing you see our leaders doing is just to fund the cost of governance and to pay civil servants, nothing more(by the way, Nigeria's IGR can fund the civil service). A halt in oil production doesnt affect our economy like they make you guys believe. It just affects the politicians' pockets. The Oil industry contributes less than 10% of our GDP in Nigeria. The rest is contributed from internal businesses I.e how we do business between ourselves in Nigeria. This is also why the closure of our borders with neighbouring countries never affected the country's economy in any way because we export virtually nothing asides crude oil and they are not the buyers of our crude oil. What oil and gas contributes is foreign exchange earnings which is meant to be used to carry out capital projects, pay civil servants and pay pensions but none of this is being done. The leaders simply embezzled the money.
How you came up with the idea that Nigerias economy can be sustained without Oil receipts is shocking. How does someone argue with your type. So Nigeria shouldn't produce and export oil again, we should resort to begging for loans?. Guy, quit Nairaland for your mental health.

Well, Just so you know. Rivers state doesnt produce more than 60% of all of nigeria's oil and gas. And that's because some wells in other neighbouring states have not yet been opened. Let me also educate you the more. Caverton is not mandated to fly from Rivers and if Rivers state stifles their business then they move to lagos. None of the oil field locations people fly to from there is in Rivers. Nigeria can comfortably produce 70% of what it is or even more without any production from Rivers. There's oil and gas in Bayelsa, Akwa ibom, delta, abia, crossover, imo, indo and lagos and these are all in commercial quantity. Allocations may be slightly reduced but will still come.
Tell me the quantity of oil produced in Lagos state. gringringrin

I'm surprised this governor doesnt know that the fixed wing terminal at airforce base where both Bristow and Caverton operate is only used by oil and gas workers. The federal government need not talk to him. The only thing they need to do is to withdraw federal allocation from rivers state for the entire duration he stops helicopter and fixed wing airplane operations and also tell the IOC's in rivers state not to pay company income tax since they made losses during that duration. Nobody will tell him before his brain resets. I wonder who his advisers are.Smh!
If the FG withholds Rivers State allocation, no other state in NIGERIA will receive allocation. Infact Nigeria go resort to borrowing to survive. You can bank on this.

You can't compare Lagos with PHC.
moreover, the monies doled out is for the care of those already in the Isolation centres.
How many people de for isolation centres for PHC?
Lagos generate N300Billion yearly to provide infrastructures and amenities for over 20M residents while Rivers generates over N100Billion yearly to cater for about 5Million residents. Who will be better off.

Rivers has A sizeable population, Good infrastructures that aren't under intense pressure, good revenue, etc. Ever asked yourself why Rivers governor's are always playing presidential politics. Becos of excess money. Rivers has more than enough to cause wahala.

Dunno why people will sit in Lagos and feel like they are everything. The only advantage Lagos has over Rivers is the siting of national agencies and parastatals.

If Nigeria were a true Federal republic, we won't have time for this.

Rivers state doe not produce the greatest part of the nations wealth

Oil @ $100 X 2million barrels a day X 365 days a year =$73 billion

Lagos state has a GDP of $ 136 billion

NIGERIA has a GDP of $380 billion

Now Rivers state does not produce most of Nigeria's oil and oil is very far from $100

People need to wake up and stop parroting the same tired rubbish.

Lagos is positioned for the future, oil is the past
What sort of calculation is this. See how insincerity is making you calculate thrash. Nigerias economy revolves around oil. They are our primary export and source of revenue receips. If oil production is to be suspended, what sort of business activities will take place in Lagos. Lagos and Nigeria needs the oil to keep flowing to enable other business transactions run smoothly.

The Lagos GDP figures you're brandishing is fictional cos most of your estimates are summed from the activities of blue collar jobs (which is almost 70% of what Lagosians do), and that is based on your doctored population figures of 22Million people.

In Rivers, We can conveniently relate to our GDP as we don't use fictitious parameters to arrive at our figures.

While I agree the OP might have his own agenda, my point is that most threads about Port Harcourt and governor Wike tend to only show pictures of GRA,Aba road and Trans Amadi layout area conveniently failing to mention the water front slums.
This is just Port Harcourt there are a lot of bad under developed local governments in Rivers state. I know this because I have been around the state.
When Omehia wanted to demolish and redevelop the waterfront (waterside) slums, Okrikans said Ikwerres wanted to chase them out of PH. Demonstrating everyday and saying all manner of things against Ikwerres.

Almost all waterfronts in PH are slums. Fact. And the people living there are squatting on govt land. Another fact. Because of the nature of Okrikans, a ethnic group notorious for causing conflict and confusion over land that is not theirs, they suspect any measure that intends to looks into waterfronts and it's redevelopment. Cos they know any inquisiton will result in their exposure. Rufus Ada-George is the reason for all this.

PoliticsRe: Alleged Corruption in NDDC: Ijaw Group Demands Akpabio Steps Down as Minister by HopeAtHand: 9:53am On Apr 05, 2020
PHijo:
That is not true! Ijaw have enjoyed the least benefit in comparison to their size and financial contribution. Being president isn't a reward, it is supposed to be a position to serve. Ijaw people have always called for resource control, fiscal federalism and environmental conservation not political positions.
They didn't have support from governors. A few individuals from other ethnic nations lent their support. However, ethnic and political blocs clearly said they[other Niger Deltans] are 'peace loving' and that the Nigerian state should reward them for not being part of the struggle. Some went as far as referring to the struggle as an Ijaw struggle. Calling for the Ijaws to desist from calling it a Niger Delta struggle.

Jonathan's presidency did not favour Ijaw people because all the things Ijaw people were fighting for was never passed by Nigeria's parliament.
The Ijaw nation is the fourth largest ethnic nation in Nigeria. Does it make sense for the fourth largest ethnic nation to be minorities in all the states they are found except Bayelsa? The problem is most Nigerians don't even know who the Ijaws are. Ironically there are places Ijaws have larger/more LGAs than Bayelsa most Nigerians fantasise on.

To start with, Akpabio is Niger Delta minister not NDDC boss. It has never been about Akpabio, it has always been about fulfilling the mandate of NDDC. Ijaw people have been always outspoken, we never campaigned for NDDC or Niger Delta Ministry because we knew they all end like OMPADEC, organisations created to distract from the main issues. Even when our people were in charge people always registered their displeasure and they've always carried others along.

In recent history Goodluck Jonathan was the only president who didn't appoint himself as Nigeria's petroleum minister yet you guys won't let Ijaw people rest. The Fulani and Yoruba people who gave themselves oil blocs, gave tailors and hairdressers oil blocs are the people you go round to shake with two hands and a bow yet you always have the temerity to have an opinion on Ijaw people or issues.

You guys should grow a spine!
@1) YOU Flatter yourself if you believe that your the 4th largest ethnic group in NIGERIA. Pls help us and breakdown your supposed population figures and the distribution across the various states and LGAs you find yourselves.

@2) I'm to Imagine Diezani Allison was from France. And we all know her records as the most corrupt Petroleum Minister ever in the history of our democracy.

We all in Nigeria are a testimony to how well Ijaws have managed Bayelsa. They have brought out the best in the state and made her an envy amongst other states of the federation. A state Ijaws everywhere can hold their head high and be proud of. Rubbish and Ingredients.
PoliticsRe: Alleged Corruption in NDDC: Ijaw Group Demands Akpabio Steps Down as Minister by HopeAtHand: 10:01pm On Apr 03, 2020
PHijo:
They have every right to cry! Nobody has shouldered the region's struggle as much as they have. If other groups have championed the cause of the region( only exception is Ogoni). The region would have been able to put pressure on the Nigerian state much further.

Ijaw people learn how to be ethnic extremists when you have positions of power in Nigeria! If what you accuse senator Akpabio of doing is true, it is what his master, Buhari does too.

We are the only group that takes slogans like 'one Nigeria ' or ' Niger Delta solidarity ' serious. Truth is, everyone for himself. That is what is going on.

Please make una leave Akpabio. Even if you guys may have a just reason for that, the whole action would probably be misunderstood.
Ijaw championed the cause of the Niger Delta region. And you have enjoyed the most benefits, even up to having a President of the Federal Republic. Ijaws never acted in isolation. They had support from almost all Governors and ethnic mix-up in the Niger Delta.

But the presidency of GEJ taught us all a lesson. Ijaws literally hijacked the Niger Delta, everything had to be them, creating a false sense of a super majority group, claiming to be 14M strong when even their majority status in the region can be debated (yes, Ijaws are minority everywhere else excluding Bayelsa, which is just an 8LGA state, almost exclusively a swamp).

Just to cut it short, Whatever is good for Ijaw is good for any other ethnicity in the Niger Delta. Ijaws have had control over the NDDC for many many years and didn't perform miracles, so they should let Akpabio be. Not because you're not enjoying again, you're screaming corruption.
