Good day all. Please when it comes to Nigerian tiles, how do we rate these Nigerian tiles in terms of current quality: Goodwill, CDK or Virony? Opinions from home owners, building contractors and tile suppliers are welcome. 1 Like |

KelvinCoaster: I think this is a good suggestion... pay what you think you owe first. I have a feeling that if he had done this earlier, together with QsFemi giving the breakdown that n3xt requested much earlier, the matter would not have degenerated to this level. 1 Like 1 Share |

n3xt: This could be one of the reason why n3xt refused to accept the valuation by QsFemi. He had already made some concessions on the price of blocks and cement. (I can't also remember the price of cement and block being as low as N3000 and N200 respectively this year). Hence, he wanted a more "practical" valuation that would reflect his initial concessions. Nevertheless n3xt, these issues can be resolved offline. This combative approach with a client is uncalled for. Especially for one, who gave you a great benefit of doubt in awarding the contract to you. Tidy this completely with somehow before 2022 and let peace reign. 2 Likes 1 Share |

gabbytabby: I also agree. However in this particular episode, twinskenny showed proof that it was micgray100 that insisted that the money should be paid into his own account. This is the reason according to twinskenny why he obliged his request. What if twinskenny had refused? Hence, twinskenny felt he was doing micgray100 a favour and this was one among other reasons (like micgray100 not allowing the borehole guy leave site with his tools) why he is accepting partial responsibility. Remember that twinskenny also showed proof that micgray100 negotiated directly with the borehole guy. On the other hand, micgray100 that seemed to plead for twinskenny's account to be used as the escrow, now has the expectation that twinskenny should take full responsibility for the contractual dispute. I am not holding brief for twinskenny here, but I think that is where the dilemma lies. Learning point for me is not about the referee not getting in between the money (client and contractor). If the client 'pleads' that you get in between the money, the lines of responsibility between client and referee should be clearly spelt out and documented. 11 Likes |

Horlardorjah: While I am not holding brief for Michlin, I think his response was very natural. Recall that a client had a few days earlier insulted him publicly in capital letters for an obviously miscommunication issue. This is without giving him any benefit of doubt. This would have put him in a defensive posture in response to Egun's question. His response to Egun's question should have been more tactful no doubt. However, Egun's response was equally wrong. Courtesy should be demanded from both clients and vendors. Unfortunately, the scale is tilted a little against the vendors in this forum. It was this same Michlin that was hardly given a chance when he came on board this forum. All sorts of insults, innuendos were hurled in this direction. Yet he remained dogged and proved himself. The seeming support he receives here in this saga and the one that involved hammer last year (if you can recollect), is because the public would naturally stand against judgemental and subtle bullying against an individual perceived to be hardworking and straightforward so far. We know fraudulent behaviour when we see one. Dragging vendors down because of glaring miscommunication issues or imperfect company processes is uncalled for. Remember that the internet doesn't forget. In this challenging economic environment, why kill what you cannot build when we have not engaged privately to clarify issues? Vendors should also profile clients (as much as it's possible) before accepting jobs from them, and deal with whosoever you choose to do business with on a personal level (pictures, information etc.). Self respect is also as good as the money. You can avoid whosoever you don't want to deal with, but don't also insult clients or appear arrogant/rude. 11 Likes |

Spyder880, you have done well. This quote looks even cheap to me. I don't know of any carpenter or iron bender that would agree to collect less than N160k each for their services on a double wing of 2 bedroom flats based on current labour rates. Perhaps, they agreed much lower because you are always building and hence have a higher bargaining power. Those who feel this type of decking should cost around N3M don't understand what entails in a decking done very well (without cutting corners). spyder880: 3 Likes |

You don't pass judgement on another man's building project simply because you built a building of that type. There are other considerations that could make the costs differ. Firstly, the size of the decking. Secondly, the structural design of the decking as advised by the structural engineer. Hence, more 16mm rods could have been deployed more than yours. Thirdly, the concrete mix ratio. Fourthly, labour charges in the area of your build. Please when did you do your own decking? What's the size and can we see the structural design only? When we see the information above, we can then appreciate your perspective. N4M is a very fair price for Spyder880's decking based on today's material and labour rates. neduboo: 1 Like |
