Two persons confirmed dead, 30 cars burnt in Ijegun pipeline explosion
Two persons have been confirmed dead and over 30 vehicles burnt in the pipeline explosion that rocked the Ijegun community in Lagos state in the early hours of today July 4th.



Confirming the number of casualties, the Chief Executive Officer of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Femi Oke-Osanyetolu, said suspected vandals destroyed one of the NNPC pipelines in the surburb and were siphoning Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) into a 33,000 litre capacity tanker when they were intercepted by security operatives.



“While trying to escape from the security agencies, some of the siphoned fuel spilled into the drainage and the vandals were alleged to have set the spilled fuel on fire in a bid to deter the security agencies from apprehending them.



The fire then spread back to the pipeline, the point where the vandals had siphoned the fuel and exploded with escalating fire which led to two fatalities and over 30 vehicles burnt. The actual loss will be determined upon conducting post disaster enumeration after the fire has been put out. Responders at the scene include Lagos State Fire Service, Police and Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).” he said

Frank Lampard has left Derby to take up the vacant manager’s position at Chelsea.

Few days after protesting at the International Human Rights Summit at the United Nations over prisoners awaiting trials for years in Nigerian prisons, singer Lamboginny Lawanson has slammed Naira Marley for allegedly mocking prisoners with his 'soapy' dance.

Sources close to Naira Marley had claimed that his 'soapy' dance was inspired by his prison experience. According to them, these prisoners who have no access to women, satisfy their urges using soap.

Photos: Suicidal woman rescued after she jumped into a river in Kogi
A suicidal woman was on Monday evening, rescued after she jumped into a river somewhere in Kogi State.



According to reports, the unidentified lady alighted from a commercial trycycle on a bridge, left her luggage behind and jumped into the river.

Fortunately, someone quickly jumped in and rescued her. It's not clear if the rescuer was the Keke driver or a diver.

Men of the Oyo state Police Command on Wednesday disclosed that the vehicle which was used to kidnap Mr. Dayo Adewole, son of the immediate past Minister of Health, Professor Isaac Adewole, has been recovered.

HOTFROM9JA.COM gathered that some unknown gunmen suspected to be kidnappers Tuesday evening abducted the ex-Minister’s son at his farm located at Iroko, a suburb of Ibadan, the state capital.

Adewole junior was said to have been kidnapped around 6:30 pm on Tuesday.

It was however gathered on Wednesday that the military, the police, security agents and local hunters were already on the trail of the kidnappers as at the time of filing this report.

Our correspondent also learnt that this has forced the ex-minister to cut short his trip abroad.

As at press time, the abductors are yet to reach out to the family of the kidnapped victim.

But, Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the state police command, Mr. Olugbenga Fadeyi, while reacting, maintained that the vehicle which was used to kidnap the victim has since been recovered.

Fadeyi, who insisted that the command is currently working to ensure the release of the kidnapped victim, added that the police in conjunction with other security agencies had recovered the vehicle.


In a telephone conversation with DAILY POST Wednesday morning, he said, “The vehicle which was used to kidnap the victim has been recovered. We have recovered the police which was used by the hoodlums to kidnap the victim.

“Yes, we had the report that he was kidnapped. The report was sent to me that he was kidnapped about 6.30 pm on Tuesday. The Area commander in Moniya and other patrol teams had been alerted and are presently giving the armed men, a hot chase.

“We are on their trail as I speak with you and more deployments had been made to rescue the guy and track down the abductors.


That some hoodlums kidnapped son of a former minister. And immediately the area commander went to Iroko in search of the hoodlums.

“The Area Commander went to Iroko and with our men, they chased the hoodlums and the vehicle which was used has been recovered.

“So, I can tell you that the command is seriously working had to ensure his release.


I can assure you that we are working to ensure that the victim is released.”

Gov. Yahaya Bello of Kogi has initiated free healthcare services for pregnant women as part of efforts to tackle the rising rates of maternal and infant mortality.

Bello, at the inaugural ceremony of the service in Anyigba, Dekina Local Government Area, said that its aim was to make pregnancy as safe as possible for poor and vulnerable women, who cannot afford antenatal and delivery care in hospitals.

He said that the service, which was introduced 17 months ago, recorded huge success at its pilot phases, which encouraged government to enlarge it with the assurance that “we were on the right track”.

Bello, who was represented by Dr Ahmed Attah, his Special Adviser on Health Matters, said that the achievements had encouraged the scaling up of the initiative to all corners of the state.



”Under this programme, our mothers, wives and sisters enjoy free booking, drugs, tests, and all other required antenatal and delivery cares.

”With Health Care plus, and more health friendly projects to come, I have no doubt that the maternal and child health indices in Kogi State will continue to improve for the good of our people,” Bello said.

He, therefore, enjoined the people to embrace the opportunity and avail themselves of the outstanding dividends of democracy from the government.

Dr Saka Audu, Commissioner for Health, in his remark, said that the initiative had been implemented in Maternal and Child Health Centres in Agassa and Gegu-beki communities in Kogi Central and West Senatorial Districts.

According to him, the initiative involved renovation, remodeling and re-equipment of primary healthcare centres, and free maternal and new-born healthcare services.

Others are free deliveries including operative deliveries, two ways referral system, free antenatal drugs, laboratory services, and postnatal contraceptive services, among others.

He added that the initiative had improved the antenatal attendance by 60 per cent and hospital deliveries by 50 per cent, which would spread across the state.

The Ejeh of Dekina, Dr Usman Obaje, who was represented by Onu of Abocho, Alhaji Tijani Okutachi, commended the governor for giving priority to citizens’ health.


He assured the governor of full support for his reelection bid, saying that the people of Dekina would reciprocate the good gesture. (NAN)

PRESIDENT Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday expressed happiness that the effort of his administration to wage war against corruption and poverty in the country was acknowledged and appreciated by the United Nations. Speaking during an audience with Mohammad Ibn Chambas, United Nations Special Representative of the Secretary-General for West Africa and the Sahel, at the State House, Abuja, the President said he was pleased that the United Nations appreciated his administration’s focus on fighting corruption, poverty and ensuring regional stability. President Buhari in a statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Chief Femi Adesina, also restated his belief that peaceful relations with Nigeria’s neighbours remained imperative in confronting terrorism and insurgency. Chambas, who represented the UN Secretary-General, Antonio Guterres at the Democracy Day celebration, said the UN boss extended his personal admiration for President Buhari’s “integrity and quality as a statesman especially, in fighting corruption and driving public accountability.” He said the UN appreciated the Nigerian leader’s commitment to tackling poverty, terrorism, insurgency and recharging the Lake Chad. While pledging UN continued technical support to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) towards the next general elections, Chambas also expressed the UN’s delight that Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Prof. Tijjani Muhammad-Bande, was elected the President of the 74thUN General Assembly.


He described Prof. Muhammad-Bande as “highly regarded by his peers in New York,” adding that “We will ensure his tenure is a success.”

According to Chambas, “We have no doubt that he will be a pride to Nigeria and Africa.” In a related development, President Buhari Thursday received in audience the First Vice-President of the Republic of South Sudan, Taban Deng Gai, who came to seek Nigeria’s continued support towards lasting peace in his country.

Justice J.K. Omotosho of the Federal High Court sitting in Port Harcourt, Rivers State has remanded Bisong James Oyen, a fake employment officer of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, in prison custody.

Oyen was arraigned by the EFCC, Port Harcourt’s Zonal Office on Thursday, June 13, 2019 on a two-count charge bordering on forgery and obtaining money by false pretence contrary to Section 1 (2) (c) of the Miscellaneous Offences Act CAP M17 of the Revised Edition (Laws of the Federation of Nigeria) 2007, and punishable under Section 1 (2) of the same Act. One of the count charges read:

“That you, Bisong James Oyen, on or about 11th December, 2018 at Port Harcourt, Rivers State within the jurisdiction of this honourable Court did forge Economic and Financial Crimes Commission Appointment letter and delivered same to Talbort Young for employment with intent that it may be acted upon as genuine, a pretext which you knew to be false and thereby committed an offence contrary to section 1 (2) (c) of the Miscellaneous Offences Act CAP M17 of the Revised Edition (Laws of the Federation of Nigeria) 2007, and punishable under section 1 (2) of the same Act”.

He pleaded not guilty to the charges when read to him. In view of his plea, Prosecution Counsel, Esin-Otu Ebipade urged the court to fix a date for the commencement of hearing. The defendant was not represented by any Counsel. Justice Omotosho adjourned the matter to June 18, 2019 for hearing and ordered that the defendant be remanded in prison custody.

Oyen got into troubles when a petitioner alleged that, sometimes in April 2018, he logged into the EFCC’s web address, in a bid to apply for a job but could not get through the application. However, he allegedly received a call from one Alex (Kalu Patrick Ikechukwu), now at large, that he should send his document to an email address: jimmyexclusive85@gmail.com and pay some money into an account number of one of the new generation banks.

The petitioner allegedly got an assurance, after paying the money, that he would receive an Appointment Letter that would qualify him for training by the EFCC. After waiting for a while without any communication from the EFCC, he reported the matter for investigations and the results showed that Oyen was neither a bonafide employment officer of the EFCC nor authorized to receive any payment from any member of the public on behalf of the Commission.

In the same vein, Kelvin Ogbonna was arraigned before Justice J. K Omotosho on a two-count charge bordering on false pretences. One of the count charges read: “That you, Kelvin Ogbonna on or about 12th February 2019, in Port Harcourt within the jurisdiction of this honourable court had in your possession (your email address: barrito1@gmail.com and ms087704@gmail.com) documents containing false pretence which you knew or ought to know contains false pretence and thereby committed an offence contrary to section 6 of the Advance Fee Fraud and other related offence Act 2006 and punishable under Section 1(3). He pleaded not guilty to the charges when read to him. In view of his plea, Prosecuting Counsel, Esin-Otu Ebipade prayed the court to fix a date for commencement of trial. However, defense counsel, B. M Mgbamoka did not oppose the prayers of the prosecuting counsel nor sued for the bail of his client.

Justice Omotosho adjourned the matter to June 18, 2019 and ordered that the defendant be remanded in prison custody for commencement of trial. Ogbonna’s troubles started when the EFCC acted on some intelligence concerning his alleged impersonation, possession of scam documents and internet fraud and arrested him accordingly. However, investigation showed that he was in possession of one apple iphone 6S and Hewlett Packard (HP) Pavilion Laptop, all of which contained false documents.

The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, has given the indication that it would be looking into complaints of some of the over 60,000 applicants seeking for employment into the corporation.
The NNPC had used a computer-based test (CBT) was the first time such an exercise would take place at the corporation, through advertisement and invitation for written test before oral interview, all conducted in-house without the use of consultants. Some of the candidates for the CBT in Abuja had expressed frustrations over 'technical glitches and timing out' before the allotted time.


A handful of the applicants at the Abuja centers in Gawarimpa and Jabi areas, had said their computers logged them out about 30 minutes before the time allotted lapsed.
But, the Group Managing Director of the NNPC, Dr. Maikanti Baru, in his desire to carry out a transparent recruitment exercise promised to look into the complaints of some of the candidates. Baru, had said he has directed a "fair assessment" of all those with genuine complaints.
He stated: "I will check and since they are many I will direct a fair resolution: to grade them based on what they were able to attempt for the time they spent. "I have already directed the Chief Operating Officer, Corporate Services (COO, CS) to consider the grading to the few affected and lodge the complaint to their invigilators/supervisors," he had said.
However, thousands of applicants commended the NNPC for a transparent selection through the CBT.
This, according to them, shows that Baru and his management are working round the clock to turn around the fortunes of the Corporation.

It should be noted that when he was appointed in 2016, he inherited a Corporation in decay and in dire need of a new direction.


In line with the anti-corruption policy of the Buhari administration, he unveiled a 12-point agenda designed to cleanse and revive the corporation.
The 12-point agenda represented a concerted effort to make a clean break with the past. Under his guidance, NNPC commenced and completed the repair of critical oil and gas infrastructure leading to the deferment of about 700,000 bpd. The corporation commenced and completed the repair of the vandalised 36' and 42' IT Export pipeline leading to the restoration of production operations from NNPC/MPN.
He has remained focus in ensuring that transparency and accountability are entrenched at the NNPC.
Baru recently said the NNPC is currently among the most transparent in the country considering the achievements recorded in recent time.
He had stated that efforts were on to disabuse the mind-set of Nigerians that wrong things were happening at the NNPC.
Represented by the Group General Manager, Crude Oil Marketing Division, NNPC, Mr. Mele Kyari, at a recent forum, the NNPC boss had argued that things had taken a turn for the better at the national oil firm, especially in the last three years.


Baru stated, "We have never had it so good in this country in the last two years in terms of transparency of our transactions, validation of our activities, the unfettered and unobstructed participation of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, who has never asked us to do anything different.
"Today, we need to get people out of the mind-set that something wrong is happening in the NNPC. Nothing wrong is happening. We have passed that stage. We are now probably one of the most transparent companies in this country."
He added, "We have seen a number of governments; worked with a number of them, but probably, we have not had the opportunity to put our cards on the table as we did in the last two years. That makes it easy for us to align with the EITI's objectives and opportunities that are there to do even greater things for our country.
In his own presentation at the event, Kyari stated that since May 2015, the oil firm had taken several measures to promote transparency, such as the elimination of dual pricing for domestic crude allocation and automation of its transactions.
He said the NNPC had increased the auditing of its operations, including third party and the direct sale of crude oil to refineries, reputable traders, upstream companies and Nigerian entities.
In line with its drive to ensure transparency, the corporation had unveiled its group financial statements from 2011 to 2016, which is something rare at the NNPC.
The NNPC said the delivery of the audited financial statements was to help foster better relations with stakeholders and promote transparency and accountability in the corporation. It disclosed that its aim was to achieve a clean slate dated back to August 2015, stating that it inherited a total of 65 unaudited financial statements for the NNPC and its subsidiaries, covering from the previous government.

A statement issued in Abuja by the NNPC's spokesperson, Ndu Ughamadu, added: "There were, undoubtedly, challenges that led to the backlog, which may have been beyond the control of the previous management. However, the important factor was not to look to the past.


We saw an opportunity to challenge the problem and resolved to clear the arrears in the shortest possible time.
"Management achieved the first step of concluding the audit of the 2011 to 2012 financial positions and presented same to the Board in 2016, and in recognition of that modest achievement, the NNPC Board further mandated the management to clear the remaining outstanding reports for the years 2013 to 2016, and the result today is the delivery and Board approval of the audited group financial statements as of December 31, 2016."
Baru had assured that NNPC was on track in respect of the corporation's 12 key Business Focus Areas (BUFA), and the vision of President Muhammadu Buhari to improving the status of oil and gas infrastructure through ensuring products availability to support national economic recovery and growth. He lauded the contribution of the corporation's Downstream outfit, NNPC retail, saying it played a significant role in ensuring continuous supply of petroleum products to Nigerians through its Mega, Affiliates and Leased stations.
He said NNPC Retail had transformed from loss making to profitability.
"We are currently planning for a better performance and achievement especially with the continuous innovations and creativity in the downstream sector and the performance bond signed by all the relevant heads of our operating units. Continuous improvement as one of the principles of World Class Organisations remains our key word and we believe, plan and strive to achieve a better performance," Baru added.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has been directed by a high court sitting in Imo state has not to issue certificate of return to Rochas Okorocha as senator-elect for Imo west senatorial district.

Ngozi Ukoha, a judge, restrained INEC from “departing from its decision not to issue a certificate of return in respect of Imo west senatorial district election.”

But INEC said it would meet to consider the order of the federal high court, Abuja, which asked it to issue the certificate to Okorocha.

The latest court order is the third on the issue, coming after that of the federal high court and a May 23 order from the high court of Imo directing INEC not to issue a certificate of return to any of the candidates in the election.

INEC is expected to announce its decision on the matter later on Tuesday.

Okorocha had earlier been denied accreditation when he arrived the National Assembly Complex for the ongoing inauguration.

R. Kelly has pleaded not guilty today in a Chicago courtroom to 11 new felony sex crime charges.

The singer’s attorney Steve Greenberg dismissed the new charges as a rehashing of old allegations. “It’s the same case. It’s just they changed what they charged him with,” Greenberg told reporters at the courthouse, while again attacking Kelly’s accusers, saying “they aren’t victims.”



The 11 charges handed down by a Chicago grand jury are connected to the January 2010 alleged sexual assault and abuse of a person identified in court documents only as JP. Three of the charges are for the sexual abuse of a child between 13 and 16 years old. In some of the counts, Kelly is accused of having threatened or used force against JP.



The singer is currently out on bail after paying 10 percent of a $1 million bond, as is required in the state of Illinois. The presiding judge did not increase bail despite the more serious charges, because Kelly has appeared for all court dates as required.
