Satellite TV TechnologyRe: Get Your Star Tv Decoder And Watch 40 Cable Channels by Hotwire(m): 8:00am On Aug 03, 2010
@Ayusman 16
Buy and install a better antenna that has booster. You will get more channels. Otherwise you will have to be patient until when the signals are increased by the service provider.

Flodel:
so how much is this decoder? and can one receive its signal somewhere in kwara state
@Flodel,
The Star Tv decoder is sold for 9k. It uses normal Tv antenna (not dish) to receive stations(now 42) like BBC, Aljazeerah, MGM Movies, BET, Etv Mtv, NTAe, NTAk etc. It has not come to kwara state yet.

@Zenus,
I have read that page you referred me to since, the illustrations there do not answer my question of merits and demerits of series/parallell conection of baterries for energy storage in solar power/inverter system. Pls help.
Satellite TV TechnologyRe: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by Hotwire(m): 10:29am On Aug 02, 2010
@Geoge D,
Babajiroro of Nigeria FTA (courtesy Enitan2002) could you pls confirm the merits and demerits of parallel vs series connection of batteries to store energy. Does it have any effect on the inverter, the charge cotroller or the batterry themselves?
Satellite TV TechnologyRe: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by Hotwire(m): 11:01am On Jul 29, 2010
@George D,

A promise kept. This is an ambitious project man! It must have gulped a mil. Your setup is better than generator, the only problem is the initial capital outlay. Go ahead and coach us. We are all ears, abi na EYES? Congrats, 24hr FTA viewing without noise, smoke, fuel or NEPA bills.
Satellite TV TechnologyRe: Startimes Television- A Bundle Of Deceit by Hotwire(m): 11:36am On Jul 28, 2010
From the Begining

austinooo:
House, we are easily deceived in Nigeria, can you imagine that the whole lots of promises by startimes television that they offer a dishless decoder is fake, most areas in Lagos are not getting good reception, the E star channel nener see the light of the day and to make the matter worse, I called their customer care and they told me to come and buy a special antenna from them for 3k. I must confess no interesting thing abt them. I feel sell my own if I get buyer
And NOW

austinooo:
Thanks for your contributions, I can now receive a clear signal from my startimes. I was made to buy a good external antenna(3k) before I started getting signals. (I was angry about my post because I was made to understand before I bought it even from this forum that it works without dish but only with indoor antenna) Also, their much promised entertainment channel has come on air Friday. I was made to understand that they transmit from Yaba and that effort are being made to boost the signal. If you want it, consider your location and the cost of the antenna in addition to the decoder, anyway, I can now get what I bargained for
@All
Hurray, Hurray Star Tv has one satified customer in Austinooo. Kudos to Nairaland who provided the platform for the interaction.

@ Hotwire: Still on the matter! Can you please put up detailed pics and procedures of your construction of the holder especially how to get the radius if it is curved. Details generally. And also the tracking procedure for the secondary lnbs. Tanx a bunch in advance!
@Litaninja

Thanks for the interest in the Multi-LNB setup. The pictures have already been published on pages 5 and 6 of this Thread. I bought the holders off the shelf and they are straight not curved. My procedure is crude but effective. No mathematics, no compass, no meter, just common sense.
You first of all set up the primary LNB and get a good green signal strength. Once you get the nilesat stations you are good to go for the second LNB which will give you Zimbo, madascar, MTA International etc. You hold the LNB down a straight line (imaginary) in the direction that the dish faces. By trial and error you will get a green signal that will enable you scan and get Zimbo and the others.
A litte bit further down with the third LNB you will get the MultiTV if you have an Mpeg-4 receiver. I hope I was not too sketchy.
Tracking Gurus in the house will further assist. eg Twinskenny, George D, Enigma, microgiant, olofofo ,

@Malix I have taken the decoder to their headquaters at Mushin, it works fine but when I got home again no signal, no channels. I think may be what I need is antenna or what do u think?
@Bolaraji
Your problem is weak signals experienced in your location. Pls use a good external antenna eg Binatone or buy from them. And when it rains or cloudy expect poor reception or cracking pictures.

The price ranges from 16k to 18k depending on the supplier. But ensure that you get a one year guarrantee in case of unavoidable system failure. Then you can always return the receiver for a free fix. There are Gurus in the house that can assist. eg Olofofo

Looking at the picture more closely, one would have thought, the lnb (b) is more closer to the nilesat LNB which to me seems that it is not w3a, w3a seems a little further from nilesat, unless of course I am looking at it from the point of view that my own dish is 2.4m

Noone is shutting than this thread. If you read this thread like you claimed, you would have read it at the beginning of part 5 where i explain why I said this is the final part. In any case, it is because of people like you that we want this part to be the final part, your type hardly search the child boards, that is if you even know it exists. There are threads opened now on the child boards that deals with nearly everything we discussed on this thread, the reasons why it should be the final part.
@Twinstaye
You are completely wrong about your assumptions of " MY TYPE". I search the child boards like anyone else. I read this thread always and not just a claim. Come off your high horse!

I have taken four shots of the dish with a high res digital camera but each file is more than 1.2MB. I just realised that this forum has a restriction of 200KB as file size to be attached. Pls give me your Emails otherwise I will have to re-snap using a camera phone which is 1 Mega Pixel. See Baba Egun's contribution and pix above. He has bailed me.

Thanks for coming to my aid. My own arrangement is slightly different but achieves the same.

Formal Launch of the Star TV with NTA is taking place soon. Infact by the time full digital transmission starts in Naija, the normal analogue TV will not be able to receive stations without some form of Adapter/Decorder.

Pls i'm interested in knowing how you were able to mount 3LNB on a dish and getting MultiTV, Nilesat & Madagascar. Pls what is the dish size? PLs kindly post detalis. Thanx for your reply yesterday on Strong Receiver thread.
The dish is 1.8M and is focussed to Nilesat position. I have one Diseq Switch that collects signals from the 3 LNBs and sync them to the 9x receiver. The nilesat LNB is focussed to centre of the dish while the Madagascar LNB is located at the down (west) of the centre LNB. The MultiTv LNB is riding on the Madagascar LNB further down. Everything FTA and nothing Illegal.

@Zenus,
Don't be surprised. In FTA many things are possible. The only limitation is your applicable knowledge and experience. Ask Enitan, he is Custodian of FTA knowledge.

Thanx Hotwire for the response. I live in Ilorin (Naija) and i wonder if I can get additional channels on Astra 2B apart from MultiTV & Infinity. I said this because 3days ago I did a blind scan @ NIGHT on my 69x on Astra 2B & I got "AIT KADUNA" on 12511V SR 3978 and this showed on the screen - 'EVERTZ 5600MSC' with signal strength of 58, but since then the signal drop down to 27-30 and now showing 'bad signal'. Pls someone can help me out
Thanx.
@ Magaddai,

That was a "stray signal" you got to catch AIT Kaduna. I cant explain that but you MIGHT not get it again. What is the size of your dish and LNB make?

If you shut this Season 5 FTA Thread where else will we get relevant information on FTA? Ever since I started reading this Thread I have stopped calling Technicians to adjust my dish. I got wind of MultiTV here and I promptly got a 9x. I have one dish and 3 LNBs cleverly mounted (trial & error) to receive MultiTV, Nilesat and Madagascar.
