babs2011: Guys what's happening to this thread o ? It's been too quiet for a while and I'm beginning to feel rather lonely. Not much point in posting here if I'm the only one on the thread. HG, Agaba, Modath, Yinx- Are we not into posting our workouts anymore? It used to be encouraging to see others post their workouts too but now feels like its a one man band. Anyway, I will give it to the end of this week to post my workouts on here as I frankly don't see the point anymore. As I like to have a record to see my progress and keep me accountable,I will be continuing my logs on my personal diary and other fitness forum I belong to. Sowwwwwiiiiiiii. Maybe we have not been working out, lol. I salute your courage and persistence but remember there were also times you left for ages and we all waited so you have to also hold the fort till we are back too, lol. I personally had not been logging for sometimes now just as you said am really busy with other weight-loss sites but am still indebted to this forum because they made me. For me this week, its been bad because I had malaria, just trying to come out of it yesterday and when I got to the gym, ran for 10 min and I was so dizzy I dint believe I was not going to collapse. My weigh in yesterday was 76.3kg, I had been between this figure and 77.6kg for almost 11 months now. I know it is a long plateau and am doing everything in me to break it, its the "push" of last week that I think brought the relapse this week. I will be fine sha, I will do my best to go back there today. My program: I run 3 times a week, Core-Mondays: Arms/Shoulders - Wednesday: Aerobics/Total Body workout on Saturdays: If you still wish to have an everyday report, I will indulge you and do it here still. |

babs2011: If you're struggling with motivation, try this:
Think about how you'll feel in an hour or two if you exercise - energised, happier, more relaxed, virtuous. Then think about how you'll feel if you don't - guilty, fat, lazy, and wound up (those are my feelings, you may feel different!). Awesome!!! |

Greyfog: @Hour_Glass, weight lifters eat so much because they want to increase their body mass be it muscle mass or healthy fat. Because the stronger they are the more weight they will lift. A weight lifter who weighs in at 70kg has little chance of any serious heavy lifting so he or she has to bulk up and they achieve that by eating more than their daily calorie requirements. As for abokis I have never seen them eat, yes some of them are ripped but we are talking about inhumane working conditions in order to make a living, you don't know how many of them that break down because of that. I don't think d person we are addressing will be undergoing exercises comparable to what the abokis are doing. Most importantly she wants to lose weight not gain or maintain her weight. If abokis don't eat so much as u say they will have serious health issues because of the amount of energy they expend during work of which the person in question will never go through. Exercise will never burn as much calorie as you consume. If u want to lose weight eat less calories than you daily requirement. If u want to gain weight or bulk up eat more than you require, it's that simple. My 2naira Toh. I don gree. |

@ Omo-Alata and Greyfog, I think I will agree with R4R's exercising a lot to eat a lot. The issue there is if you are exercising a lot and not eating enough, all your efforts will not yield nothing because the body can activate a starvation mode. Lemme give the examples of weight lifters do you think they eat half plate of rice, in fact when you see their meal plans you will be scared. So also we were talking of those abokis and labourers who works on site carrying cement and concrete, have you seen their 8 packs before, do you sit to ever watch them eat? Even on weight loss sites, the moment your exercise routine increases either intensity or duration, your daily calorie will most definitely increase too. Take a cue |

Tae bo Advanced - 56 mins
Happy new month house!
@ HG- yeah never heard of using minutes for reps, I suppose you would have to do a certain number of reps in a given time abi? Yeah barbie I know what it is. Instead of doing 10 reps in 5 sets, its going to be the number of reps you can do in 1, 2, 5 or 10 min. Using minutes instead of sets. |

Romeo4real: The meal plan above is unsustainable, and i assure you it cannot be made permanent. It certainly would not benefit you in the long term. You need to eat at least 3 main meals a day. Starving yourself or not eating enough would only lead to regular "cheating" and binge episodes, thereby undermining all your efforts. I suggest you create a food diary. Write down EVERYTHING you eat for 1week; including the exact times. This has to be quite detailed and MUST include anything that goes in your mouth - no matter how small or insignificant you think it is. Also record any exercises you do, and the duration. All this would give you a better idea of your calorific consumption and the consistency of your exercising. Do come back to the thread with the info.
I assure you, the scales will move; but you must have a clear structure to your program, and be consistent in your efforts. Trying to lose weight in a haphazard manner simply prolongs the whole endeavour. Well done R4R, in my likkle journey in this weight loss, I have seen that consistency is the vital tool and still the most difficult tool. So many things responsible but with a disciplined heart and a SMART goal in mind, we can do it. So many external factors, some so very unforseen gets in the way, but we will keep on keeping on. Thanks for sharing Romeo. |

Romeo4real: @Ms Steph -
Try and understand that whilst weight gain is about calories in vs calories out, it really is not that simple.
1. A calorie is simply a unit of measurement. It is not anything physical 2. The human body does not "burn" calories for energy 3. Whilst a calorie of fat is equal to a calorie of carb or protein thermodynamically, in that they strictly produce the same amount of heat when burned, they are NOT equal in the way your body processes them. 4. Your body processes calories from different foods differently 5. The energy cost to metabolize fat, carbs (complex & simple) and protein is different 6. Calorie restriction slows metabolism 7. Fiber reduces calorie absorption 8. Quantity and Timing of eating affects calorie processing and insulin production
So, stop calorie counting. It is misleading and will only serve to confuse you more. No machine can realistically tell you how much calories have been "burnt" for any given exercise; it is simply making an assumption. Simply eat right, responsibly, regularly, and exercise consistently. How did I miss this? Romeo well done, how you dey? |
