lead to long-term chronic pelvic pain, etopic
pregnancy (pregnancy that is outside the womb),
infertility (inability to conceive) and some other
life threatening health conditions when treated
casually.

Disease (PID) every woman should acquaint
herself with in order to significantly reduce her
chances of being trapped by this ugly disease.

pain around the pelvis or lower abdomen (your
tummy); experiencing pain during urination;
unusual or abnormal vagina discharge (that is

Nairaland / General / Top 6 Causes Of Frequent Urination by Hubtain(m): 6:42pm On Mar 19, 2015
What Is Considered A Normal Number Of Times To Urinate In A Day?
6 Common Causes Of Frequent Urination

There is no direct answer to this question simply because the frequency of urination depends on many factors such as quantity of fluids taken, kind of medications taken-diuretics for example, and medical conditions (like diabetes, pregnancy, urinary tract infections, etc.)

However, several medical experts have at some point answered the aforementioned question; their answers are closely related. Let’s see what some experts believe a normal urinary frequency is.

Dr. Elizabeth Farrell, a gynecologist at the Jean Hailes Foundation for Women's Health explains that the normal range (urinary frequency) is between four to six times a day, including up to two times at night (nocturia).

In an attempt to answer Brian’s question (…what is considered a normal amount of times to urinate in a day?), Dr. Jennifer Shu, a pediatrician said most adults urinate about once every two to four hours when awake, for a total of about six to eight times in 24-hour period.

According to bladder and bowel foundation, normal urinary frequency is about 6-7 times in a 24 hour period for most people, yet between 4 and 10 times a day can also be normal if that person is healthy and happy with the number of times he visits the toilet.

While other experts claim that urinating once in every four hours is the normal frequency.

Frequent Urination
Urinating more often than eight times or once every two hours a day is considered to be too frequent. Visiting the toilet (to pee) too many times a day can be really embarrassing especially when you’re at work, in a crucial business meeting, at a movie or in car embarking on a journey.

What Are The Common Causes Of Frequent Urination?
Frequent urination could be triggered by the following factors:

• Drinking Too Many Fluids: Taking more water than your body needs can trigger excessive urination. Drinking caffeine, alcohol, carbonated drinks, and citrus fruits can make a person urinate more often or too frequent.

• Urinary Tract Infection (UTI): Frequent urge to urinate can be caused by urinary tract infection. Urinary tract is responsible for the removal of liquid waste or urine from the body. It is composed of the kidneys, ureters, bladder, and urethra.
The kidneys filter waste from the blood, ureters transfer urine from kidney to bladder, and urethra also moves urine from the bladder for excretion. Urinary tract infection occurs when bacteria enter the urinary tract. Bacteria irritate and make the bladder to be oversensitive, thereby causing the urge to pass out urine.

• Use Of Diuretics: These are medications that contain substances that cause excessive urine to be excreted. Good examples of diuretics are anti-hypertensive drugs and other medications with side effect of excessive urination.

Nairaland / General / Top 10 Ways To Manage Body Odour by Hubtain(m): 4:34pm On Mar 19, 2015
“If a smell is unpleasant, then the source is unpleasant too, period.”

People are usually not free around a person who has body odour. Personally, I feel uncomfortable around people with stale smell.

In most cases, people’s perception of you revolves around two things- the way you dress and the way you smell.

What Is Body Odour?
Body odour can simply be defined as an offensive or unpleasant smell given off by our body. It is caused by both internal and external factors.

What Are The Causes Of Body Odour?
• Sweat mixed with bacteria produces stale smells (sweat itself is odourless; bacteria breaks down sweat into fatty acids which produce the unpleasant odour).

• Side effect of hormonal changes (like menstruation) produces offensive smell.

• Some drugs increase sweat which when mixed with bacteria cause body odour.

• Genetics is undoubtedly one of the causes of body odour; people from different location have unique smells.

It is necessary that I mention this: most HMO sell out hype (a fad) to companies and prospects; the thing is, they show you a broad picture of their covered services-leaving out some excluded services...

Some employers also tell their staffs that their HMO covers almost every medical service – my friend, that’s not quite correct...Your company is only trying to make a point [that the HMO policy they bought for you is not cheap and that they know what's good for you].

Truth be told, no matter how expensive your HMO plan is, it doesn't cover you for all medical services known to man, there are exclusions. And the essence of this blog post is to show you the basic HMO excluded services.

Knowing your bounds and limits as an HMO policy holder is as important as knowing your covered services (or HMO's scope of coverage).

This piece of information will be of immense help to you, trust me!

Random List Of HMO Excluded Services

Here are the excluded services of most HMOs:

• Services that are not medically necessary [any treatment that is simply for convenience which is not necessary for your medical condition].

• Services performed or prescribed under the direction of a person who is not a certified and registered healthcare practitioner (provider).

• Treatment for any condition that is directly related to Human Immune Deficiency Virus (HIV), Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS) and AIDS Related Complex (ARC).

• Plastic (or Cosmetic) surgery to improve appearance, but not to correct deformity resulting from disease, trauma, etc.

• Overseas treatment and all kinds of transplants and any surgical procedure requiring implant.

• Arthroplasty [replacement of joint, knee, shoulder, elbow and finger with artificial devices] and Prosthetic devices such as hearing aid, artificial heart valve, artificial limbs, etc.

Health / Re: Which Hospital Is The Best In Nigeria? by Hubtain(m): 7:31pm On Mar 11, 2015
I doubt if there are generally agreed criteria for ranking or measuring hospitals in a country like Nigeria. My best hospital might be your worse... So,what we should focus more on is- which hospitals offer quality and hitch-free healthcare services in Nigeria? Or we should be more concerned about having the right hospital manage our healthcare needs.

For those who would like to know how to choose the right(or most suitable) hospital, here's is a reader friendly guide you can use:

How To Choose The Right Hospital: 6 Unfailing Steps To Take.

Looking for information on how to choose the right hospital or healthcare provider is a smart decision, because you've got just one life and it's your responsibility to protect and nurture it.

I must commend you for subscribing to HMO package as a way of protecting yourself and your family against health challenges, but I still have to warn you that that is not enough, you still need to carefully select your health managers[hospital].

I may not be able to show you [on this post] every reason why people should carefully choose their healthcare providers, however, I will show you some critical reasons why you [an HMO enrollee] should not choose just any hospital as your healthcare provider, and I will also show you a logical, step-by-step approach to choosing the right hospital.

Critical Reasons Why You Need To Choose Your Hospital Carefully

• Healthcare needs are your most important needs-therefore; your healthcare provider should be carefully selected.

• As an HMO enrollee, you are constrained to choose only one hospital at a time out of a limited number of preselected hospitals.

• Choosing a wrong hospital can really be detrimental-it could cause you irreversible damages.

• Choosing your hospital carelessly might result to decrease in life span.

So, how then can one choose the right hospital?

Here are six unfailing steps to choosing the right hospital:

STEP 1

Consider Proximity:
Make sure the hospital you choose is very close to your house because you or your dependent (family) might one day be in need of urgent medical attention.

Going through stress when you're sick might worsen your condition, remember, sickness is an effect of stress, so it would be unwise to put yourself in a stressful state when ill. Therefore, choosing a hospital that is far from your home is really risky.

Lest I forget, emergencies come without prior notice- it will be detrimental to choose a hospital that is really far from your residence.

STEP 2

Assess The Environment And Facility:

• Ensure the toilets, chairs (or couches) and floors are well tidied- needless to say that diseases and bacteria are easily caught in hospitals.

• Ensure the hospital has good and working alternative sources of power supply

• Make sure water [both for drinking and other use] is available

• Ensure the hospital is fumigated at short intervals- say once every month.

• Make sure the hospital smells nice because unpleasant smell would make you feel uncomfortable throughout your stay.

STEP 3

Assess The Quality Of Services Offered:
You've got just one life, therefore you shouldn't gamble with it by entrusting it to quacks. You have to do your homework diligently before choosing any hospital as your healthcare provider.

Creatively spy the hospital, and ask some patients about their experiences and some quality related questions [remember the old saying "the voice of the people is the voice of God"] but be careful against misleading information.

90% of HMO policies in Nigeria do not cover c-section or blood transfusion. You will have to pay extra cash to get these services, if you ever need them.

That claim is not correct sir/ma... I've serve as an HMO liaison officer for years, and my interest is to see that enrollees(patients) make the most of their HMO policy; therefore,it would be foolish of me to post misleading information on a popular platform like this...

Most HMOs(over 70%) cover for C-Section and blood transfusion depending on the enrollee's plan type.

The thing is, several factors can lead to enrollees being asked to make co-payment...

One of the reasons why you might be asked to pay extra cash for some services is - if your HMO plan type is very low, another reason could be- you've exceeded your annual limit, finally, the kind of policy you subscribed to[is it a co-insurance HMO policy?]...

I hope this helps...

Health / High Blood Pressure: 4 Causes Of Hypertension You Probably Don’t Know. by Hubtain(m): 6:17pm On Mar 11, 2015
Are You At Risk For High Blood Pressure (Hypertension) – And Don’t Even Know It?

High blood pressure (or hypertension) is a very serious concern that can increase a person’s risk of having stroke, heart attack and heart failure [which might result to sudden death].

If you or someone you love is suffering from high blood pressure, then please don’t skim this article, make sure you read and understand the guidelines below and then prove your love by sharing it with that person.

Science has identified several factors that can increase a person’s risk for high blood pressure; some of these factors are controllable while others are uncontrollable.

The good news is- the uncontrollable factors are few compared to the controllable factors. Therefore, the implication of this is:
Hypertension can be easily managed through proactive actions [lifestyle changes and medications].
What’s High Blood Pressure (Hypertension)?

A normal blood pressure readings is 120/80 mm Hg or below; if a person’s blood pressure is 140/90 or above consistently for a number of weeks, he’s considered to be hypertensive.

I believe the main reason why Hypertension is referred to as “silent killer” is because it could be present in a person for a long time without signs. It symptoms are not unique; in fact, it shares symptoms with other sicknesses like malaria, typhoid, etc.

Needless to say, Hypertension, if ignored can cause a serious damage to your health…
What Are The Causes Of Hypertension?

Anytime hypertension is mentioned, the next thing that comes to people’s mind is- it’s caused by stress and anxiety…

Of course, stress and anxiety can trigger a rise in blood pressure but these are not the only factors that can cause high blood pressure; there are other factors that can increase a person’s risk for high blood pressure, some of these factors are:

• Family history of high blood pressure-if your father or mother has or had high blood pressure, then, you’re at a high risk of being hypertensive.

• Ethnic Origin: Some ethnic groups are at greater risk of having high blood pressure. Africans (and Africa-Americans), South Asians, Caribbeans..., for example have higher likelihood of being hypertensive.

• Age: As you grow older, your blood vessels lose the ability to expand, which can cause your blood pressure to skyrocket.

• Tobacco Smoking: “Smokers are liable to die of hypertension, heart failure or other heart diseases.” Cigarette smoking is a higher risk factor for high blood pressure.

• Obesity or Overweight: An overweight person is a potential candidate for hypertension.

• Excessive Alcohol Consumption: It is said that a little quantity of alcohol is good for the body but too much of it can be detrimental to your health. Too much intake of alcohol can boost your chances of having high blood pressure, stroke and other heart diseases.

However, there are some critical factors that can increase people’s risk for hypertension which are lesser-known, they include:

Excessive Salt Intake: Are you taking too much salt daily than your body needs? If so, I have a bad news for you – you’re a potential candidate for high blood pressure because salt contains sodium [which causes your body to retain excess fluid, which increases blood pressure].

To reduce your risk for hypertension and other heart diseases, I suggest you follow American Heart Association (AHA)’s recommendation – “sodium consumption should be limited to 1,500 milligrams per day,” Which is about ½ teaspoon of salt.

Health / HMO Benefits To Employees by Hubtain(m): 6:54am On Mar 08, 2015
Source: http://www.sproutby.com

As an employee with a ridiculous salary, how would you handle the following scenarios?

1. Your spouse needs to deliver via caesarean section and might need to be transfused, your baby might also need some special neonatal services; what would you do if you don’t have enough money to clear the medical bills?

2. You are involved in a ghastly accident (God forbid) and you need to undergo a very expensive surgery, what if your savings is not enough to pay for the surgery, where would you get money from?

3. Your child broke down (emergency) on a weekend and would need urgent medical attention, supposing you don’t have sufficient cash at home or even in the bank, what would you do?

4. One of your children is a known Sickle Cell Anemia (HBSS) patient who could be attacked by Vaso-occlusive crisis (VOC) at any time, would you give up on that child the day the crisis sets in and you don’t have money stuck anywhere?

In case you've never thought about this before and don't know how you would handle the above... Here's a clue- plan ahead and protect yourself and family against emergencies and other unforeseen circumstances, thats what smart people do.

The best form of health protection I can think of in Nigeria today is HMO.

With an HMO policy, you can access healthcare services with nothing down[no cash payment]

With HMO plan, healthcare is cheaper.

With HMO package, you and your family would have access to quick and quality healthcare services when emergency shows up with its ugly face...

Religion / The Medicine That Can Cure Every Form Of Sickness : 20 Days Routine Supplement by Hubtain(m): 2:39pm On Mar 02, 2015
There is a powerful medicine that can cure every form of sickness and disease known to man.
As a matter of fact,it can even prevent illness altogether and keep you in vibrant health when taken as prescribed.

Does that sound too good to be true?

Sincerely speaking such medicine exists. There are several testimonials about this medicine. This medicine is produced by the greatest physician of all time.

Here's The Medicine:

"My son, attend to my words;incline your ear to my sayings...For they are life to those who find them, and health to all their flesh."- Prov 4:20-22

Sickness is a psychological phenomenon;it's an effect of a cause[stress]. It doesn't attack its victims at once;it starts with symptoms and then develops into sickness if permitted.

Attack they say is the best form of defense; it's unwise for you to wait for sickness to manifest before making a move...

Remember, prevention is better than cure. Kill these symptoms before they become sickness or better still shut the door against sickness.

Here's The Secret To Sickness-Free Life :

Feed your subconscious mind with God's words consistently, because it's what you put into it that determines the kind of fruits your body produces. God's word is ever positive and pure because God can never go wrong.

Make it a habit to read and talk Gods healing words every morning and night before bed.

I have compiled some healing words; you can use it as a routine supplement for 20 days- one dose daily[you can however take overdose,it has no side effect and it's also harmless].

Warning:
It will not work if taken as a mere affirmation. It will also not work for a skeptical person.

For it to work effectively, you have to trust God whole heartedly and make the declarations with a definite purpose in mind[to be sickness-free].

"My comfort in my suffering is this:
Your promise preserves my life "- Psalm 119:50

Daily Supplement:

Health / Top 6 Natural Ways To Cleanse/detox Your Liver by Hubtain(m): 6:29pm On Feb 27, 2015
Why Are You Maltreating Your Liver; do you want to lose it?

We live in a world where most of our actions and habits are inviting diseases to us; sometimes, we even buy disease with our hard earned money. This should come as no surprise to you because our environment is surrounded by disease producing aliens called toxins.

Most of the foods we eat are processed and contain preservatives- such foods have toxic substances.

We inhale toxins when we do our domestic chores- surprised? Have you not heard that most cleaning liquids, detergents and bleach contain toxic chemicals?

Each time you fleet your house with insecticides and pesticides to expel mosquito, other insects and pests, you inhale harmful chemical substances (toxins) because these insecticides and pesticides contain toxic substances.

I could go on with more examples of how we attract disease producing substances to ourselves, but I have to stop here... There are lots of blog posts on how people get toxins into their system; you can Google the topic for detailed information.

What are toxins?

Toxins are harmful or poisonous substances created by both plants and animals.

Toxin is as old as mother earth and is everywhere on this planet; we cannot be totally isolated from toxic substances... God knew that man cannot be completely separated from toxins that was why he added detoxification to the job responsibility of the Liver.

70-100 years ago, toxins were not obvious threats to man because the work load of our liver was not as much as it seems today.

What is detoxification?

Detoxification simply means cleaning the blood. It's an act of removing impurities from the blood stream.

Let’s at least talk about this vital organ called liver:

The liver is the second largest organ in your body that plays important roles like metabolism, storage of nutrients within the body, detoxification and so on.

The liver is the first line of defense against foreigners(toxins), it prevents them from passing into the blood stream by filtering and removing these toxic substances from the blood.

Warning:

"When the liver becomes congested it will not filter blood optimally." - Fanney

If you don't make conscious efforts to support your liver you will either lose it or it will become too weak to stop toxic substances from entering into your blood and your body.

How to revitalize your liver ?
For your liver to be up and doing, you need to clear off (consistently) the toxic substances stuck in it.

There are several medical programs or restrictive diets around to detoxify the liver, but there are also natural ways to cleanse the liver and this post is focus on these natural ways to detoxify the liver.

Personally, I prefer the natural ways because they are less expensive and they have little or no risk of re-consuming toxic substances while detoxifying.

The importance of detoxification cannot be overemphasized in this messed-up world, there are number of natural ways to flush the toxins stuck in your liver out.

Natural Ways To Cleanse Your Liver

1. Drink Lots Of Pure Water:
Drinking a lot of water is really important during liver cleansing.
Water helps to flush stuck toxins out of the liver. As you take lots of water you're assisting the liver to detox naturally on its own.

Warning:

Too much intake of water can cause a person's blood to be diluted of salts which might result in a condition called hyponatremia and severe cases of hyponatremia lead to water intoxication.

2. Eat Garlic:
Garlic which is commonly called stinking rose is a member of the onion family which contains sulfur compounds that protects the liver and other organs from being damaged by toxic substances, it also activate liver enzymes that work to flush out those toxins funneled into your liver by other organs.

Garlic also has two vital nutrients (allicin and selenium) that protect your liver from harms caused by toxins.

3. Eat Walnuts:

Health / How To Choose The Right Hospital For You: 6 Unfailing Steps To Take. by Hubtain(m): 6:00pm On Feb 27, 2015

STEP 1

Consider Proximity
: Make sure the hospital you choose is very close to your house because you or your dependent (family) might one day be in need of urgent medical attention.

STEP 3

Assess The Quality Of Services Offered: You've got just one life, therefore you shouldn't gamble with it by entrusting it to quacks. You have to do your homework diligently before choosing any hospital as your healthcare provider.
Creatively spy the hospital, and ask some patients about their experiences and some quality related questions [remember the old saying "the voice of the people is the voice of God"] but be careful against misleading information.
