bigm101: **yawing ** # whew! .... Yesterday , Wednesday 18th, I woke up early around 5:30 am . I prayed to God and went back to bed . I later woke up around 7:45 am . I went out to the black market to change some naira to dollars . I got back home around 9 : 00 am . I was full of anxiety and at the same time fear . I quickly jumped into the shower and had my bath . I remembered I have flight to catch at 1:30 pm . I quickly jumped into the car. I didn't let my sister drive( she is a perfect driver but she won't speed much like I want ). I drove from Abeokuta to Lagos ( 50 mitns ) thank God no traffic at mowe/ibafo or redemption camp . I was heading to Oshodi and to get to ikeja ( airport ). I already ate rice but rushed it . I started developing a running stomach. I had to branch at a restaurant along Oshodi to poo-poo. I got back in the car and headed to airport . I got to airport around 11:45 am. There was a pong queue at the Ethiopian airline stand ( a lot ). I quickly joined the queue but the Ethiopian staff called the people traveling to Dubai to come forward , we ain't much though and I was checked in and I got my boarding pass . I passed through customs . They pleaded for egunje and I smiled . I gave him 1,000 willingly and he appreciated . I got to the immigration . They were so full of themselves . They brought me into their office and questions me .. Like., what do you do for work ? Why are you going to Dubai ? How long are you staying ? What's the total amount of money you traveling with ? I answered them all and they still requested that I show my BTA which I did , and he let me go. I later headed to gate D-44 where I will board the flight . Like I said , we were much and it was so so scary. ( I had hope it was gonna be a big plane ).. So, the flight was announced 3 pm afternoon and we boarded .. We got to Addis Ababa (Ethiopia) around 11 pm their time . So, I connect my other flight and continue my journey to Dubai . I got to Dubai around 5 am in the morning . It was a cool flight and thank God . I took a taxi directly to Daira( blue diamond hotel ).. I checked in (7am-7pm) shared ( 2 people ) myself and a Nigerian man . He came for shopping . It cost 100 AED . I even bargain to 80 AED and the red- head Indian boy no gree ...I showered and had a nice sleep . I got up and grabbed something to eat . The hotel has got wifi and I'm using it with my Iphone . The first thing that struck to my mind was to get on Nairaland and share my experience after calling my family and love ones at home . It was really a nice experience and I didn't really mean to bore you with my long words but I must really appreciate each and everyone that contributed on this forum . Just exactly as you guys have said. That's how it is.. No lie or doubt about it .. I really appreciate the likes of Ogakpatakpata , justi4jesu, Mr henrimot, Dr Dre , and a lot that I can't mention .. God continue to bless you .. I'm checking out tomorrow and moving into a shared accommodation . I ought to have checked out but I wanna enjoy my money over night and sleep ( lol)... @hugochris.....................Justwise is the moderator of the thread, he has actually done a wonderful job in the entire travel section and kudos must be given to him and other super moderators, the job they are doing is not easy, it is time consuming and you will also see all the insults, threats and abuse poured on them daily for trying to protect Nigerians and other nationalities from been duped/swindled by wicked agents on the travel section, l know some people may differ with my opinion, but, that is the truth.
The Etihad issue is rather sad and very unfortunate, Emirates airlines are too rigid and they will want to manage every aspect of your trip which l don't like, especially the booking of hotels through them. l will advise you approach other sincere tour agencies in the UAE, even if you have to pay more as long as your dream/purpose is realized when you arrive the UAE, l think it is worth it. l also know that money is not easy to come by,but, l believe as long as you don't give up your dreams, your purpose/goal will be achieved when you arrive, l wish you all the luck/favour you need. Cheers my brother. @ justwise u must really be a Goodman..God bless u @ oga,d only igwe thanks |

@Justwise................the TTS is actually from the Etihad website, l have also clicked on that page and saw the same Indian number she quoted openly, l think probably if she/he had pasted the entire link openly that would have resolved the entire issue, as anyone who desires the number/contact will click the link and it takes them directly to the page invariably to the icon (TTS Care). l know what the moderators are trying to protect/guard against. Thanks anyways. This is the first time I am seeing justwise post.I was wondering if he is one of the oga's @ d top I greet u @ogakpatakpata ur suggestion is nice, cos I do not see why etihads Nigeria marginalised Nigerians, using this age stuff as constraint, they should deduce other better means. I called one of their numbers, they told me point and plain ages below 27 they no longer issue visa, only on parents coming along, Then ages 30 to 35 is like 50 50 chances, its absolutely absurd. Other tour agents or company is on the high side, which personally I have confirmed. When will naija be a dignified respected country? |

mamasong: Hello All, I'm new here. i joined just to contribute my experience getting a visa via Etihad. I planned my vacation long ago, and booked flight and hotel very early. having been to dubai before on the 14 day visa, i believed getting the visa again would be a walkover. i chose to use etihad as they are cheaper. i wish i didn't - i finally got my visa 3 days to my trip after almost 1 month after application.
This is what i learnt: The tts people in Lagos don't know much. i wasted a lot of time because i trusted their assurances. it was only when it was getting close and they started asking me to "hope it comes out in time" that i realised i needed a plan B.
On the TTS website, there is a link for TTS Care. via that link there are a couple of numbers in UAE and india. Also email addresses for escalations and issues. I USED THEM ALL
The most effective for me was calling the number in India, they actually resolved the issue and sent me the visa before the Nigerian office even realised it had been approved.
I hope this helps. I don't know what the new visa policy is, but i was very eligible as i am travelling with a parent and a child.
Also, i prayed a lot. "They that know their God..." Nice to hear your testimony on procuring a visa to the UAE.the challenge has being on age factor over here in the etihad Nigerian office.though some tour companies in the UAE do promise they give visa regardless of age but is on the high side. Please kindly share the Indian number you called.thanks,God bless |

You are welcome, some of the things our contributors share here are very correct, personally, l have built a network of close associates/friends both online/offline/guest from this forum, and many have confided and share things with me, infact, some of the friends l met here are not even regular members, but, they are guest and they read all we do here daily without contributing and when they arrive the UAE,they call me to appreciate all we do on this thread, some gambled with their trip by arriving with insufficient cash and many have returned quietly back to Nigeria.
l will say things the way l see it and base on the feed back from the employment field, some others call me from Nigeria directly and l counselled them over the phone, those that took heed to wise counsel arrived here and had good stories to share.l know you will succeed, take your time, prepare very well, and l am sure when you arrive the UAE, it will be a work over for/to you in your job search. Cheers my brother. Thanks ,I do appreciate your advice and prayers May the good and merciful God continue to bless u |

You are certainly not reading the thread and if you do, you are not taking salient notes very well, it has been addressed several times by different contributors, the issue of $2000 BTA was arrived at in the forum after considering the general cost of living and the variables/challenges you might deal with in the quest for securing a job, no one can predict the direction the pendulum might swing to in your job search, what applies to applicant A,B,C, in their job search might be different from what applies to applicant X,Y,Z, so the onus is on you to be over-prepared,it is also possible to secure an offer without paying a dime.
Let me respond to you like this:
1.Accommodation is about $200 minimum with either 6,7,8 or 9 guys in a room, but, if you want a place with fewer guys you might pay more than $200.
2. Your job search might go beyond 1month and you are expected to pay another rent + feeding + transportation + visa extension + other miscellaneous expenses
2. It is difficult to arrive at a figure, but, let me shock you with this revelation, l will not mention names to protect peoples identities/privacy, some forumites arrived recently and they confided in me that all the places they went for in search for jobs, they ask them for brown envelops of between 2,500AED to 3,500AED,some others called me and told me that some organisation told them point blank that because of the bad experiences they had with Nigerians in the past, they will not use their money to process employment visa for them, they told them that the management have arrived at a decision that whenever a Nigerian was to be employed he must pay for all the expenses and guess how much they demanded, they asked them to pay more than 5000AED to process their papers, they where told that it is not bribe, but, it will go towards processing their residence, l met another guy who told me that he paid 5,500AED to his company towards securing an offer/residence permit.
3. Once you are issued with your employment visa, you exit with both your employment visa + your visit/tourist visa to any neighboring country of your choice and re-enter with the employment visa, you do not need another visa apart from the two in your hands.
4. Do the maths yourself as regard the BTA, mind you, you can arrive with $100 BTA, it is purely your choice, but, with what l have seen here and continue to witness here in the UAE and with my wide interactions with different ethnic nationalities, apart from Nigerians, you definitely need enough money to survive here or else, you might be stranded.
Good luck with your choice.
Enjoy your day. I hear u @ igwee I am not saying I'm coming with a BTA less than 2000usd...but need to clear a little argument with someone. Obviously money is very essential in getting more money which I know right from when back in the years when I was still a kid. Even over here in Nigeria people pay as much as 400000 naira to secure a good job in the oil and gas sector,so paying high for a job its all about the pay package. It's all good, thanks for the reply |

1.Once you are issued with the employment visa, the UAE law states that ""YOU MUST EXIT"" out of the country, mind you , you arrived as a tourist/visitor and you now secured a job, so you must exit back to your home country or anywhere you choose and now re-enter with the EMPLOYMENT VISA to commence your residency formalities.
2.Some good companies/organisation can process it very quick for you so that you can exit with it,while some others are not fast in going about it, l also heard from a reliable source that the issue of brown envelop has also crept into the system, that is why you see some organisation are able to process theirs faster because they grease the palms of those in the immigration...
3. It is better to have it in your hands before you exit because some companies are really silly aind unreliable, they have sent some people out of the UAE and abandoned them in their home country, although, we still have sincere organisations, they will keep their contractual obligations with you. Oyea.... This is a clearer picture...we will work with the number 3....I hear u Igweeee I greet u |
