I think some see it as a taboo to criticise Rohr, forgetting that Nigerians have seen different super eagles foreign mangers like Father Tiko,Otto Gloria,Manfred Hoener,Clemens Westerhoff, Bonfrere Jo,Phillipe Trousier,Thijs Libreght,Berti Vogts.
On Agbo continue invitation i still repeat it something is fishing and only Rohr can explain what is really going on,nobody else. I have constantly criticised rohr on this thread....but recently I decided to give him some time...believing that is conservative attitude may prove helpful afterwards.... but now I think....it is taken to far...especially as regards taking risks wit players selection and fieldin in players.... I must say....he has done well over the few months he has been in charge...but I believe he could have done better considering the supports and autonomy he enjoys.... I still remember during March 2014 fifa free window...keshi only got Mexico to play... the nff were never this serious.... one those matches we just played could have been used for this fringe players.... trying tactics can come during the Congo, England and Czech friendlies..... Rohr messed up big time |

I believe this friendly would have been more useful if the fringe players were left to play... by so doing who knows we would have found capable replacements for some roles like the striker or midfield role.... against Serbia...watching them being unable to make single pass upfront and the striker couldn't convert one of the few chances he got....leave me worried more.... Joebie: guys guys..
It's okay to criticize Rohr. But on the whole Rohr has brought far more positives than negatives to our darling national team. While I must admit that the criticisms of Rohr fielding Ebuehi for 90 minutes and not giving Aina enough time (as a Right-Back option as well) are logical, I think some of us are becoming over emotional because of the loss. All of a sudden Rohr has become the worst thing that has happened to our football. Let's give the coach a break. He learned after the South Africa loss. He will learn a couple lessons again from the friendlies. He wanted to win, and at the same time test different formations and players. In friendlies, coaches must find a good balance between playing to win and playing to test. /b]Over the two friendlies, in my estimation, Rohr didn't do this well enough. [/b] i so much agree with your last sentence... I am not calling a rohr a bad coach...in fact I do much appreciates the improvement he has made on our football... but we Nigerians expect better things from him as regard this last two friendlies... had it been the new invited players or those who have not been playing gets to play this two matches or even the Serbian match and lost....it won't have made much noise.... at least it would have the team and him rohr know better the calibre of this players and also we Nigerians..know as regard players selection and whom to be on the plane to Russia.... but right now...i still believe one of those guys like agbo, ajayi,Gabriel and even Aina would have done better in that match.. |

tbaba1234: The coach has no confidence in Agbo. I doubt, he will make the WC.
Rohr appears to be more focused on getting the right tactical formula than getting new players. I see him experimenting more with tactics than with players. then rohr has a problem... why keep inviting players you have no confidence on...little wonder he failed in those Africa countries he managed... even keshi....used the Mexico, Scotland friendlies prior the 2014 world cup to try new players..... we need good legs in that midfield who can pass the ball well....and also a hungry striker...Ighalo i repeat is not good enough. |
Sports › Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by Humility017(m): 7:49am On Mar 30, 2018 |
darkelf: Bros, no worry.
The best thing is to just reduce your expectations of this team.
I will not let patriotism becloud sound judgement.
The two friendly matches exposed glaring weaknesses that'll be hard to improve on before the WC which is just a little over 2 months away.
Boys that have been together since 2016 can't find each other on the pitch or string 1-2 passes together. Is it the months to WC they'll finally understand each other if they couldn't for nearly two years??
With the exception of Ndidi and Moses (although quite selfish), the rest couldn't live up to expectation.
And Rohr didn't help matters by being too conservative. Playing Claude Puel style of football. If we play Spain, France, or Germany, we may get beaten silly by at least 2 goals. Why? Because they would dominate possession from start to finish and not give us a chance to counter.
Odogwu Mikel will not play everything for us. He'll only bring experience and creativity to the midfield but will not help Onazi, agu, joel et al to pass the ball accurately.
Now, do we have the coach that can improve on the creative side of our midfielders? Seriously, I began to doubt after both friendlies. We now know why majority of our players are not in top clubs. The individual quality just ain't there and with the exception of Ndidi, the other midfielders aren't improving their game.
Okay, come in Ajayi and reuben. You didn't use them. For what reason ?. Isn't this a friendly match?
I agree with Oasis who said that if Rohr we're to be a local coach, many of us here would say that he collected bribe or has his own boys. Double standards!!!!
Well, I trust NFF, if we don't give a good outing in the WC (by not making it out of our group), heads will roll and many so called big boy players may never smell the GWG ever again. On the business side, many coporate sponsors may be wary of the SE in the future and doubt their ability to deliver on the global stage when it matters the most. so annoying.....you wrote true... the problem of this team you just highlighted. you see I am not sparing rohr....at all. I believe we would been better...had it been he lets other players get to play... I am surprised to read here...that Agbo is a better passer of the ball...then why should rohr continue to keep him on the bench...? rohr is not acting like a German at all...may be he is more French than German... you see Germany national team...in the last confederations cup...they went to that tournament with young guns...that's what they call gradual progression they may not win this world cup...but expect them to win the next one..... we are walking on a tight robe... Ighalo gonna keep missing sitters for us...let's make that striker role competitive... play any of the likes of ajayi, Gabriel, dessers, Henry and even umar... let's see if they offer something different... I have watched Henry...enough and I know he is more a better finisher than Ighalo... i am not comfortable with onazi in that midfied...any more...what's the use of an assistant captain who can't make a simple pass upfront...? let's make this guys believe that their positions are up for grab...and see how they will.improve... I remember Ighalo starts playing better shortly after warming the bench in the super eagles for sometime...prior the Cameroon game...... |

tbaba1234: Most effective strikers in the Eredivise the earlier we tell ourselves the truth...the better for US....we don't need an Ighalo kind of striker at the world cup... a striker who can miss 7 glaring chances is not what the super eagles need at this time... I think nancho we should continue with from now.... i think part of our problem in this team is rohr....his conservative nature is not helping matters.... why invite players to camp and they won't get to play a mere friendly? why keep inviting them? now...we don't know how ajayi, Gabriel play...if they are better...no one knows and thats had...this friendly especaliy against Serbia would have offered him an opportunity to play ajayi and let's see how good he is...likewise Agbo and Gabriel.... so doing we will get to know how good they're and if they can displace Ighalo. also I think dessers or sadiq umar should have been invited in place of Gabriel..... rohr is very scared of taking risks or probably he is just too conservative |

Farzat: If we are looking for experience, Ejide is more experienced than Ayenugba. That he was inactive for a season does not cancel d fact that he is active and in form now. Playing in 2nd division should not be an issue afterall Ayenugba was also in 2nd division 2 seasons ago. If being in 2nd division is equal to poor quality then u should stop clamouring for Championship players and dont forget that Uzoho is in 3rd division. That we are saving for tomorow does not mean we should starve to death today. Fifa will not give us any trophy for parading d youngest team in d mundial, we must mix experience and youthfulness to get d needed balance. Ejide's club is on d verge of gaining promotion and he has been one of their standout player. He has years of experience in d Nigerian league, Tunisian league, French league, Israeli league and National team. In addition to his experience, He has good height and composure that could instill confidence in our defenders. I am not actually suggesting players to a coach that understands d game much more than me, but what am saying that if need be, Ejide would be d best option to fall back on. both goal keepers are not needed.... ejide is like akpeyi always scared and shaking in goal...I still remember the goals he gift away to the Scottish in one of our friendlies prior the 2014 world cup...in engalnd... uzoho will do better than that..... please I will even prefer we manage Dele...but ejide is a no no for me.... |

realpoacher: Yea!...Yes!!... Yes!!!
My submissions from the game last night....
Walahi, na head I take waka comot from viewing center last night with serious heartbreak!
-Joel obi fall my hands big time. Offensively poor, defensively OK, but we don't need more DM/CM. What we need is the link between the defence and the attack and that was why we clamoured for Joel obi. We didn't ask him to come and play alongside Mikel, we asked him to come and do Mikel's job in Mikel absence, and in that regard he failed woefully.
He couldn't connect any long pass forward, couldn't remove his marker, he can't shoot and he fucccking couldn't throw. Poor, poor, poor for me,... Rohr should drop him ASAP!. OGU can do all he does ,and Ogu can score too with his terrific shots. .. Thank you Mr. Joel Obi and Goodbye
- Ebuehi is overrated here. Position wise he is excellent but his overall defensive abilities is not better than Shehu. Offensively Ebuehi is better than Shehu, Defensively Shehu trumps Ebuehi.
My Verdict: Shehu should start ahead of him
- Playing 3 DMs as CM,DM and AM cannot work for us. With it we lacked bite. No creativity at all. No one among the 3 of them could take up the responsibility of driving the attack. First half, Ndidi was DM, Obi was CM and Onazi was AM. Onazi failed woefully at AM. In the second half, Onazi swapped places with Ndidi and went to DM while Ndidi went to AM. Ndidi too failed woefully there while Onazi went AWOL at DM.
Verdict: Joel Obi out, Ogu can do his job and even better. Onazi is slowly overstaying his welcome in this team. Ndidi is the current warlord at our DM/CM. He should stay put there and shouldn't bother about AM at all.
- Alex Iwobi could be the AM that we seek. Dude is so useless on the wings BUT very effective from the attacking center half. He can dribble, take his man out, pass, drive attack, and snick in to score too. When he paired Ndidi in the second half at AM, he had two shots on target apart from his dribbles, while he was quiet all through the first half.
Verdict: Iwobi should be played henceforth from AM, with time he would blend, grow some stamina and his mojo will come out.
- Uzoho is confirmed first choice with his excellent reflexes, awareness and positioning. The goals he conceded was none of his faults or errors. As a matter of fact, many top keepers will get beaten by those balls. But I'd love to see Ezenwa keep either England or Czech friendlies.
- Overall , Rohr will have to train our boys to keep the ball. Hold the ball, heck we can kidnap the ball for all I care because counter attack will not work all the time. If we keep ballooning the ball, the day we meet a team that is selfish with the ball we are toast. Just like Serbia, they played the ball on the ground. They played us from the middle. At the end, we were well beaten both in possession and in goals.
- Mikel and Moses are the talisman we have in this team but with distinct qualities. Mikel does his own with eagle eyed pinpoint passes and ball retention techniques while Moses does his own with superb dribbling skills and attacking driving runs. Iwobi can be our third talisman but he is been wasted on the wings.
Long story short... We should stop clamoring for players because from what we have seen, no one out there currently does it better than the guys we currently parade. So let's groom what we have at hand presently into what we desire.
Therefore, all this noise about Ajagun, Martins, Aluko, Dessers, Bonaventure, Sadiq should stop. Only Henry Onyekuru who has been in the mix during the qualifiers can be allowed in to slug it out with the 35 man list.
Thank you!!! that if they will hear....... I will even prefer Henry to Ighalo....for the CF role. |

precocious Arsenal Talent Nwakali Is The Solution To Nigeria's Midfield Problem
A playmaker with class, one highly rated by Arsenal and currently on loan at MVV Maastricht in Holland. How is he not? It's a subject regular observers ponder. How is Kelechi Nwakali not included in the Super Eagles squad? A player of grace, vision and football acumen, but one on the periphery at international level.
It's a strong national team, to be fair. And Nwakali is a creative midfielder – the Eagles are not short of those. MVV fans would tell you how talented he is – one of the jewels of their campaign, a player to help facilitate the club's attacking principles.
Few midfielders are on the ball as much as the Nigerian in the Dutch second tier. Few can boast his passing accuracy, sitting at just over 87 per cent. He is a fantastic player who is able to read the play before anyone else.
That's the major ingredient the Super Eagles lacked in their recent friendlies against Poland and Serbia respectively. The former Golden Eaglets skipper will be hoping further great performances can aid a late bid for a spot in the national squad traveling to Russia. It would be a fitting way to crown his time to date in MVV, where he feels at ease, national team or not.
