People just never learn. 21-year-old student has been hospitalised, after she was allegedly pushed down from the third floor of a building in Lagos, following a disagreement with a man she met on the social network, Facebook...... When contacted, the Divisional Police Officer of Bar Beach, Victoria Island, Lagos, Mr. Fayoade Adegoke, told NAN that Nkiruka wrote in her statement that she jumped on her own, in order to escape being raped. http://www.punchng.com/metro/unilag-student-hospitalised-after-outing-with-facebook-friend/ |

Mustay:I like the way you think! |
2bosun: What's the point of a PHD, isn't it to get a job in the end? There are millions without job and you want to quit your job.I understand your view which is why I'm a bit confused. I have a feeling though, that'll I'll always get a job when I finish. Just that my current colleagues might be in management whilst I'd have to start again. Mustay: Maybe @hustla242 should read this -I've read that article; an economist will always think a PhD is a waste of time, which is partially true. I believe a PhD outside the sciences and engineering is not good value for money becuase you'll probably end up jobless. |
What is it with Nigerian babes and marriage, what's the rush? It's a lifetime commitment and sometimes we just need time to be sure of what we're getting ourselves into. |
TAX, TAX, TAX!! |
2bosun: Believe me bro, you better keep your job.lol why? |
deolub: Since you have gotten to this stage...I really support the fact that you should take the PHD scholarship offer...cos the PHD will allow you to improve your expertise even though its research and academic focused..trust me a job will always come after PHD...buh am sure ppl like @ajanlekoko and @tanimola are in good position to analyse this critically....My current job doesn't have a lot to do with my research interest. I work on psychiatry and cancer projects at work; PhD offer is in my primary area of interest i.e. immunity and infectious disease (http://www.wellcome.ac.uk/funding/biomedical-science/funding-schemes/phd-funding-and-undergraduate-opportunities/wtd004384.htm)- for people interested. I'm leaning more towards leaving my current job but I'm worried a PhD may take my career in a different direction (academia)- which I don't want. |

I miss working on my own research, which is why I'm considering a PhD. The prospects on my current job is good- I'd like to hear from people that have been in a similar situation. |
The topic is self-explanatory. Full Phd offer for 3 years with £19k/year allowance (stipend) in top 2 university in the UK or job as a scientist (>£35k/yr). I would suggest quit for the PhD- you can always get a job later with the experience; an offer from top 2 university won't always be there. Please any other views? |
Ravenwolf: I'd say PhD for you because you will garner expertise and know how that would guarantee much better income than you are looking at now... did You say top 2 UK School? Thanks, that was quite insightful but don't you think within the 4 years of completing a PhD, my salary would have increased as well? Yes, I did say top 2 UK university. |
2bosun: I would keep the job if I were youAny specific reasons why? |

Tissot PRC200... Quality Swiss timepiece Still saving for that rolex though. |
I'm sorry but for you to fallout with you parents over a boyfriend says a lot about you.. You're not ready for marriage talk-less of a child- seems like God knows it and your bf probably does too. There's definitely more to the story than you're telling because for a guy to stick around for 6 years is no joke. Looking at your history, seems like you were talking to another man sometime ago for 6 months- this could be considered cheating. You need to move on, mature, and work on yourself, marriage takes more than puppy love. The right man will definitely come along. |
What a stupid topic! |
You must be joking! |
Upon all the moral values instilled in us, where are we as a nation? I'm sorry but truth be told, we're still one of the most morally decadent people in the world. We preach a lot of morality, honesty, spirituality etc, but when it comes to putting it into practice we (and our parents) are no where to be found. Just my own opinion |
Olupraise: Good morning house,It's quite risky but you can get two jobs: 20 hours each or work for different agencies and add up the hours. It can be risky and can affect your performance as well, so you've to be careful. ![]() |

It has nothing to do with doing laundries or not. Lazy Nigerians looking for an excuse. My lady has been doing my laundry years and I've always treated her with respect. It's just dumb to generalise, a pr*** will always be a pr***, regardless whether you cook and clean or whether you're married or not |
somebody: Oh wow - I see the thread has been invaded. Imagine, people accusing me of lying because I say I haven't done a menial job and have a professional job. Poor man mentality - I really can't explain why else that is so hard to believe. On a good day, I would ignore this thread but I thought it was important for me to encourage people who are looking for opportunities in the UK. I have been consistent since I joined nairaland more than 5 years ago - most of my posts then were about education and job opportunities in the UK and no I am not a job consultant. I mean you don't expect me to remain stagnant because I am abroad. Back in 2006, I was just starting my career and so 6 years on, one would hope I know a few things about succeeding in the UK. Interestingly, my first job was through a nairaland hookup (strange how I even forgot about that till this thread).Fantastic analysis, although it's almost impossible and somewhat pointless trying to prove things like this on a public forum. I know first-hand that Nigerians under 30 earn £100's/yr, I have a classmate whom I attended the same secondary school with in Nigeria that is an A-VP at Barclay's Wealth. Having said that, there are some excellent careers outside IB and medicine in the UK. I'm in the life sciences and my immediate managers make £400/day on 4-year contracts. I read on here how people judge Nigerians in the UK based on menial jobs they're doing and it makes me feel more proud because that's how I started off. Leave people, let them keep thinking we all came here to wash plates- that's their opinion. |
Is it bulletproof? How much? |
comechop: LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL It's called sponsorship?? Nice pictures, though not an Arsenal fan, good to see them catering to their Naija fans. |
mruknaijaboy: the UK tried but it didnt compare to USA though, they had the most black athletes for a non black country hands down, if there was someone on this planet who was just finding out about USA just today and saw their bit of the ceremony they would have thought it was a black country lolPeople need to stop comparing the UK to the States, it's an unfair comparison. Two completely different countries in different continents, just give credit where it's due- I think it was an excellent opening ceremony. |
Lovren: Who wil light the couldron? Becks? Ur opinion guys?I think it's Chris Hoy. |
At least 14 people have been killed and some 50 injured after a shooting at a Batman film premiere in the US city of Denver. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-18922685 My heart goes out to the families of the victims who were harmed. What's really going on around the world?? |
Linda in trouble again ?? It's all good, girl- like they say any publicity is good publicity. Keep hustling. |
Sagamite: THANK YOU!Dude chill out, you don't need to shout or insult people or a nation to get your point across. It's very crass and classless. |

You'd always start from somehwere! Your knowledge would you put you at an edge that those of your friends who had no time or interest to read more will not be able to offer as much as you can. In the end, it's no longer about how you start!
TAX, TAX, TAX!!
