There are certain things in the public health care system that need to be addressed. One is the long protocols (processes) involved in getting medical attention. A patient who is brought to the hospital in critical condition is more often than not 'kept on hold' until all the necessary processes are completed before medical procedures are commenced. I have seen numerous cases where this has happened and I could not but pity the patient and the care giver. A woman whose son was admitted in a public hospital complained bitterly about the strenuous processes she had to go through before her son was attended to. Can't the hospital managing bodies come up with a better method where the patient is given the most priority instead of the protocols? Isn't it about patient welfare any more? Another thing is the issue of multiple prescriptions and recommendation by different doctors for the same patient. One doctor writes his treatment plan, another comes and writes his own, sometimes it is different and sometimes it is a repetition of what the previous doctor has done. In the end, it is the patient who suffers. I have seen it happen many times and I have always wondered if they have proper documentation of treatment history or not. Most times the patient will have to pay twice for the same set of medication which he may finally not use up. What is your say on this? What can be done about this? Please let nobody take this personal. This is not a doctor bashing thread. I appreciate the work of the good doctors we have in this country |

An0nimus:Having good close friends is very important. A friend of mine was relating the story of one guy from his town to me recently. It sounded like a nollywood script but it actually happened and I also met one of the guy's cousins. This guy was not well educated (he doesn’t have an SSCE certificate) but he was lucky to be picked up by a rich man who runs a business (electronics I think) as his apprentice. This guy’s future was going to be bright if he had humbled himself and served his ‘Oga’ faithfully because the man trusted him and put the business in his care. Unfortunately, due to bad influence from his friends, he started stealing from his master and he spent the money with his friends. During this time of his ‘exploits’ with his friends, he slept with one lady. His master found out about his shady dealings and kicked him out with some settlement money which he ended up squandering because he did not invest it well and thus he was back to square one. Now back home, the lady he slept with got pregnant and her parents insisted that he marry her. And so he entered into marriage unprepared. Of course he could not take care of the lady and her baby so she had to leave him. Up till now, the young man is yet to get back on his feet. And the painful thing for him now is that those friends of his are better off than he is now. The guy was not wise and he allowed so called friends to ruin him. 4 Likes 1 Share |
