Lloydthesaint:don't lock her up all day, let her play around the compound. just remove everything that can injure her and let her be free. puppies have high energy that they need to expend. you can start taking her out when she can walk better, you can even carry her if you can just make sure her vaccinations are complete first |
Leunamme1:they stop growing at about 2-3 years....although the growth is very slow after 1year |
Leunamme1:the dog has very good quality bro. people that think it's a Caucasian will tell you the quality is not that high but for a Yugoslavian Shepherd, it's a high quality dog. it's just not fully grown yet |
Emsun01:second pic this is a Caucasian.... notice the size difference? the shorter snout? the fur length?
|
Emsun01:now the first pic is Yugoslavian Shepherd while the other is a Caucasian which one looks more like op's dog? know what you're saying first before you oppose somebody
|
Emsun01:I understand you don't know what a Yugoslavian Shepherd is..... you can google it and see |
Leunamme1:sure the puppies will be beautiful depending on the Caucasian you mix her with a lot of caucs in Nigeria are either Yugoslavians or have Yugoslavian ancestors if the Caucasian looks slightly like a Yugoslavian Shepherd, then you're good to go e.g something like the Caucasian in the pic will blend well
|
Leunamme1:the difference isn't that noticeable in fact, people usually sell Yugoslavian Shepherds as Caucasians in Nigeria. they are practically the same thing only that the Yugoslavian is slightly smaller and it has a longer snout with less fur, it also isn't as thick as a Caucasian |
chiboy1116:see what I said about waiting till maturity to kick in? my dog started officially guarding my house at night at 3months because of how he was raised, there was no need to wait till maturity because he already understood that strangers were not part of the family or your friends in the compound so he would alert us if he sees a strange face in the compound. in fact, you could escort us to go for a walk and he will be playing with you but once we reach the gate, he'll block you from entering. although it depends on your choice sha....I wanted my dog to begin guarding fast to scare away the burglars that were disturbing us but if you want the dog to start later it's also fine. it all depends on the way the dog was raised during puppyhood. |
chiboy1116:read my post well, I said he shouldn't let her play with visitors, letting her play with every visitor that comes to her territory makes her see every visitor as a potential friend. if a dog is let to befriend every visitor, you'll have to wait till puberty for territoriality to kick in. I also mentioned that he should take her out to see people and crowds so anxiety won't kick in....that's what socialisation is. if she's used to seeing people and hearing loud noises, she will not be scared or confused when she sees unfamiliar faces. my dog wasn't allowed to play with guests inside the compound when he was little but he was free to meet people during walks. even when he was 2 months old he started barking anytime he saw an unfamiliar face in the compound when he's alone, not because he was scared but because he wasn't used to being with strangers in the compound. but if you bring him outside he'll be free with the person. |
it's a Yugoslavian Shepherd.... it looks like a good quality one too
some people might mistake it for a Caucasian ovcharka tho... but it's not |
Jimbadly:their is nothing wrong with mixing dogs but it should be done to an extent. you can mix gsd and Caucasian but you can't mix something like Neapolitan mastiff and Caucasian. boerbel is completely different from Caucasian, they have nothing In common so the outcome will be unpredictable and crazy. will the dog have loose skin with fur? will it have a caucs face with the wrinkles of a boerbel? you can't tell and they also don't make a good match. sometimes the pups will be so mismatched and ridiculous that no one will agree to buy them |
Lloydthesaint:[/quote]don't cut her tail.... tail docking doesn't even make dogs aggressive... it's a rumour. caucs aren't even meant to have docked tails...it's not part of their physic caucs are usually naturally aggressive so i will advice you to wait for her to grow small. just feed her, let her sleep when she's sleepy and play with her when she's awake. as she grows, you'll start seeing signs of aggression. don't let her play with visitors, in fact don't let her see them. let her form bonds with only the people in your family. during this period, try and strengthen her courage and bravery by playing some certain games with her. play tug of war and let her win sometimes or at least make it look like she's about to win before you win. during this period, expose her to loud noises and crowds, if she has been vaccinated then you can take her outside to see people and cars. don't let her play with them tho, this exercise is to make sure she isn't afraid of people or cars. you have to expose her to these things slowly and also make sure she doesn't have any bad experiences outside during this period. when she's about 3months, she will be confident and well socialised so you will start seeing signs of focused aggression, at this point she should be barking at people. then now, when people come to visit, allow her to see them but not play with them, then lock her up in her kennel and ignore her till the visitors go. this will add jealousy to her hatred towards strangers and make her hate the presence of strangers. if you follow this training well, you'll have a confident, well socialised, aggressive dog in no time.....that is if she came with natural aggression. she has to be naturally aggressive first for this training to work well and improve it. I did this with my dog and now he doesn't even want to see strangers I. my compound again. but he still has his bond with everybody in the family. he can be so playful with us and very aggressive to visitors |
Lloydthesaint:don't reduce her feeding, at this age, she needs to eat 3-4 times a day. She's still growing up so she needs all the food she can get. she's too small to be climbing staircase easily nah lol, she'll get better when she's bigger. I had the same issue with mine but when he was about 3-4 months he started running up the stairs. caucs are not as graceful on their feet like gsd's, they are bred mainly for their strength but they are still agile enough. she's too small to be doing all that now, feed her well you'll be surprised at her growth 1 month from now. caucs need more food than gsd's too so her feeding shouldn't be the same with your former gsd's feeding. allow her to eat and grow well you won't regret it, at 5-6 months she'll be the same size with some adult gsd's .and also caucs are fatter than gsd's so her body mass is quite normal, don't slim her down to the size of a gsd okay? |
Lloydthesaint:it must not be exactly the same chemical tho....just get one that you're sure will work. nice to see the training is easier, just keep it short and consistent she'll learn |
who mixed Boerbel and Caucasian ![]() |
nzaghibaba:looks cute and well fed ![]() |
Forreellinc:those dogs are not even the best in Nigeria yet they are finer, bigger and more Caucasian than your "imported" CO if you seriously think that dog is even close enough to be called a 2yr old Caucasian ovcharka, then their is nothing I can say to open your eyes. just go around niaraland and see other caucs and compare them with yours. leave this thread alone and take that dog that looks like it's about to drop dead any minute with you. if your dog was really that awesome, where are the compliments on the thread you created? lmao someone even said they'll call efcc on you. don't derail this thread abeg go and continue looking for someone you can scam into buying that dog for 250k allow us to see the actual CO we came to see |
Forreellinc:all born and raised in Nigeria.... the same age with yours I didn't even need to research, this was just from my phone's gallery now please allow us to enjoy our thread about cash and don't derail it.... thank you
|
Forreellinc:no offence but their are so many Nigerian bred caucs finer than that.. it's even 2yrs old sef |
Forreellinc:is this supposed to be a joke? lmao |
are you planning to use cash as a guard dog? |
Lloydthesaint:Caucasians aren't as unintelligent as some people think, they are just really stubborn and strong willed. a gsd will try to please it's master but a cauc will try to do what it wants first and hopes it's master will be okay with it she might understand you but she might just not be willing to obey. don't train her for too long at a time or she will get bored and loose focus. some tricks require a more mature dog to do so don't rush her, just start with the basics. I always train my dog when he is hungry so he gives me his full attention. just get a snack she loves and make her work for it. my dog has to sit, jump and shake me beforhe gets his snacks, it's a routine I do everyday so now he's used to it and he also obeys without snacks. when you have used the snacks to get her to learn the commands, start replacing the snacks with attention and belly rubs or whatever your dog enjoys, the reason for this is to prevent the dog from getting too used to getting snacks. don't make the sessions frustrating for you or your dog, keep the sessions short and fun so your dog will be eager to learn more. for now, training shouldn't last up to 5 mins |
Lloydthesaint:common misconception.... they get ticks and fleas but it's harder for you to see them. most times the dog will just be scratching and you will think it's nothing until the thing spreads. before I started using that chemical on mine, I noticed he was always scratching but I thought it was normal until I removed like 15 maggots from his skin. I still don't know where he got them from, they were everywhere under his fur, even his head too. I bath and groom him regularly so I was confident that he was fine until my eyes where opened. the next day, I hurriedly rushed to the vet and got the chemical. the best thing is to prevent all those things because you won't notice them on time because of their fur |
Lloydthesaint:use this chemical for prevention and treatment of ticks and fleas mix 4ml of it with one liter of water and clean the kennel, leave it for some time then rinse it off don't use the chemical on her or allow her anywhere near it, it's very poisonous and could kill her. make sure she's far away from it anytime you want to use it. when she's older(4 months) you can mix it in her bath water....also remember to prevent her from drinking it. bath her with ordinary water and shampoo first then pour water mixed with this chemical on her, after like 5mins rinse it off. I got it for #1800 in port Harcourt and it lasts for about 2-3 months it is economical and it works, my dog has never had ticks or fleas since I started using it. I was using fionil spray before but as my dog's fur got thicker, it became harder to use. I prefer chemicals I can mix in water now at least I'm sure it's reaching the dog's skin. if you can be careful enough to keep her from accidentally drinking it, this is the best option for you... ![]()

my dog eats better when I'm there with him, it's just how your relationship is with the dog. when I first got him, I was always putting sweet things inside the food while he's eating so now anytime I'm there, my presence alone makes him eat more. |
Lloydthesaint:that's very normal for caucs, mine does it a lot. they aren't built for hot weather so keep them out of it. I even had to get a heap of sand and keep under shade to cool mine off, I just pour water on the sand and he happily snuggles in it. I guess it's because of their double layered coat, if you are planning to build a kennel for cash, I suggest you tile the floor so she can cool off on it. my caucs kennel is tiled and he also has his sand spot, i just pour water on them regularly to keep them cool so he always has a place to stay when the sun is hot. as for the crying at night, she'll get over it in a couple of days, she just isn't used to being alone. |
universelawa:dogs should be dewormed every two weeks until they are 3months old then you can switch to monthly. deworming should be done regularly especially when the dog eats meat and stays outside a lot. |
very cute... ![]() just remember to deworm every two weeks and feed quality dog food then just watch her grow. how old is she? |
mhd5757:the aggression you think dogs like that have can just be a front the dog is giving to scare away someone it's scared of......because a dog barks at everything doesn't make it a good guard dog. it may have mind to attack a little boy that walks into the compound but it'll retreat in fear if an adult man with a gun walks in and shoots at it which is why I said a dog with fear aggression is unpredictable it can grow up to be an adult and still be scared or it can grow up and be nervous and snap at everything which is not a good thing the best way is to expose the dog to crowds and scenarios it could face later in it's life so it will conquer that fear of people and loud noises. then with that fear gone, it can reason properly and perform under pressure. after all, police dogs aren't locked up all day to make them aggressive and brave. they are exposed to various scenarios, noises and people before they have the mind to attack without fear |
mhd5757:that's a terrible idea, fear aggression is a very weak form of aggression in dogs. a dog with fear aggression will fold under pressure, and is also unpredictable when faced with a serious threat. he'll just end up with a dog that'll bark at any intruder and run away when the threat isn't afraid of it and actually wants to fight. you can use ordinary water bottles and knockout to rob a house guarded by a dog with fear aggression |
georgepopsii:you should have socialized the dog when it was younger |
