The mother of the Secretary to the Bayelsa State Government, Mrs. Betinah Benson, regained freedom after spending one month and two days in the hands of her abductors.

Mrs. Betinah was kidnapped on the 20th of July, 2021 at her Yenagoa residence by men on Nigeria's military uniform.

She was released at about 5:30PM today 22nd August, 2021 and has since been reunited with her family.

The new leadership of the People's Democratic Party Youth Alliance have been charged by Governor Douye Diri to continue to promote the ethics and manifestos of the party while mobilising youths for the party.

His Excellency, Sen Douye Diri gave the charge after the inspection and commissioning of the new PDP Secretariat along Isaac Boro Expressway on Wednesday, August 18, 2021 where the inauguration of the new executives also took place.

Also speaking, the National Coordinator of the PDP Youth Alliance, Hon. Dr. Charles Omini in a meeting after the inauguration called on all members of the wing to give their full support to the newly inaugurated state coordinator and executives of the Youth Alliance.

Speaking earlier, the new Youth Alliance state coordinator, Hon. Wisdom Kieribo who is also the former majority leader of the Nigerian Youth Parliament while addressing newsmen commended the Prosperity Governor His Excellency, Distinguished Sen. Douye Diri and his amiable prosperity Deputy Governor, Sen. Lawrence Ewrudjakpor, the State PDP Chairman Hon. Solomon Agwanana, National, Zonal and State Working Committee Members/officers of the PDP, BOT, National and State Assembly Members, State Executive Council Members, top government officials, Regional and National leaders of the PDP Youth Alliance, with other members of the PDP including women, youths, students and several NGOs for gracing the inauguration and called on all youths of the state to key into the prosperity agenda that is geared towards bringing prosperity to all Bayelsans which can only be achieved when there is unity of purpose.

He further appreciated the prosperity governor for acquiring the tastefully finished secretariat which will be used for the day to day running of the party affairs in the state to obtain and sustain power in the state even while delivering on his campaign promises.

Moving Forward, Hon. Wisdom Kieribo stated that his emergence as the state coordinator of the PDP Youth Alliance is also a miraculous one after a range of controversies which rocked the strongest Pro-PDP Youth group in the state and the country at large, he further assured all members and adherents of the PDP ideology and manifestos that as a group we will see to the mass mobilisation of youths in preparation for all elections in the state from councillorship to Governorship.

A 200 level student named Jennifer in the Faculty of Education, Niger Delta University was reportedly found dead in her apartment with multiple stab injuries and bullet wounds.
There was also signs of struggles as her thumb was almost cutoff as a result, her room was reportedly scattered and filled with bloodstains.

Many have expressed concern over why the neighbours did not hear of bullet gunshots causing the wounds.

Police confirmed that the bullets found were not local bullets. This corroborates the report of the deceased close friend who stated that the late 200 level student was dating a military man who sometimes used violence on her because of cheating perception.

Report also have it that the Police concluded that it was the military boyfriend that that perpetrated the act because the apartment was scattered like they wrestled.

The deceased was shot in the back and was laid to rest on the bed. Her door was also said to have been locked from outside.
Reports have it that the deceased must have been murdered up to three (3) days back as the body was already decomposing.

According to this girl that was supposed to take part in this year's Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination organized by the Joint Admissions Matriculation Board, She missed out on her exams this year because her profile code wasn't sent on time.

She had requested for the profile code several times but didn't get it, she also went to JAMB's office in Yenagoa countless number of times with no result, they kept telling her to keep trying.

And then when the profile code was finally sent to her, she went to JAMB's office only to be told registration has ended.

According to her, several other people had the same experience and now have to wait till next year to apply again.

Family and friends of NAF Regiment James Okpu received the shocking news of his death in the early hours of Friday 25th June 2021.

Sources close to the family alleged that suspected bandits attacked their Nigerian Airforce Camp in Zamfara State last night (Thursday 24th June 2022), killing all the men on ground.

James Okpu who hails from Imiringi Community, in Ogbia Local Government Area of Bayelsa State, same Local Government of former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan will be missed by his family, as he was the bread winner and was barely 24 years old at the time of his demise.

A young man allegedly beats up his 3 year old son in Yenizue-Epie, Bayelsa State , leaving the boy severely injured and unconscious.

According to eyewitness, the man has the habit of beating up his wife, who left him few weeks ago with their 3 year old son (name withheld), the father went in search of them and took the boy back home after many days of looking for them.

After taking the boy back home with him, he locked the boy inside and beat him up mercilessly, neighbours were scared of him and couldn't help the poor boy as he would fight you if you dared question his actions.

He ran out of luck today when his neighbours couldn't bare it anymore, they had to seek the help of some young men in the community, when the young men got to the house, he had locked the door and refused to open it for them.

The young men broke into the house and found the boy unconscious in a carton where the father had hid him thinking he had died.

They quickly brought the boy out and found him still alive, but with various degrees of injuries, the father had cut his ear with a scissors and also broken his leg.

They called the police and waited for the police to get their before taking the boy to the hospital, and also added the culprit over for the police.

At the time of this report the boy is responding to treatment.

According to the SA, he has usauly put together the event to make Nigeria's Democracy Days, which was usually the 29th of May and it started in the year, 2018, pointing out that with the renaming of June 12th as the new democracy day by President Mohammadu Buhari, hence, the 2021 edition would now take place on the 12th of June, 2021 at the Bayelsa Medical University Auditorium by 10.

Hon. Atti Moses also informed that the theme for this year's edition is, "The Role of Science, Communication and Technology in Youth Development", adding that the Governor of Bayelsa State, Senator Douye Diri is expected to be the Special Guest of Hounour. While, the first lady of the State, Mrs Gloria Diri will be the mother of the day.

According to him, also expected to be in attendance are, Senior Secondary students, youths and student leaders, voluntary uniform (Paramilitary)organisations, Youths Corp members and the general public.

The SA further noted that this year's edition would have been the 4th, but due to the COVID-19 Pandemic that ravaged the entire World, the event couldn't hold but with more preventive and control measure being put in place by the World Health Organization, Federal and States Ministries of Health prompted the organisers to repackage the event to take place, adding that all the COVID-19 protocols during the event would be adhered strictly to.

The Current Crises rocking the APC in Bayelsa State, especially where a particular sector is in control of all the benefits that accrues the Party in terms of employments, appointments,contracts, Federal Government intervention programs etc. Making others in the party to be internally displaced with no placement in the structures of the Party at Nationa and State level was Predicted by the Immediate Past Governor.

Well, straight to the reason for this article, His Excellency, Sen. Henry Seriake Dickson of the PDP representing the fabulous characters of Bayelsa West Senatorial District at the National Assembly, has earlier warned members of the PDP who Benefited greatly from the benevolence of the umbrella but defected to the All Progressive Congress at the climax of the 2019 Gubernatorial Campaigns thereby attempting to incapacitate the ruling party PDP, but some of us who believe in the Ideologies of the Party, PDP and love for our Leader the Ofurumapepe stood against all odds and defeated the APC in all ramifications.

Sen. Henry Seriake Dickson was very clear in his expression when he said that the person in charge of the APC is a businessman who trades with his party members and this is actually the order of the day for some have been sharing testimonies of how they were mentally and politically colonised.

Some top Beneficiaries of the then Restoration Government thought HE Sen. Douye would not emerge the Governor of Bayelsa State, hence they defected from the PDP to APC in order to create a cordial relationships with Federal Powers and their supposed incoming Governor but as God will always have his way and the Ways of God are not the ways of man so he brought a Miracle Governor who is obviously developing Bayelsa State and gradually turning it to the Dubai of Africa which Sen. Henry Seriake Prophesied and worked towards Years ago.

Furthermore in my opinion , I wish to use this means to call on our Prodigal Brothers to come back to the Ruling Party, PDP because the Umbrella is big enough to cover everybody come rain come sun.

I also want to use this means to commend the Prosperity Government, Ably led by His Excellency, Sen. Douye Diri and members of the State Executive Council for their people oriented policies and programmes which is gradually placing the State Metropolis as one of the Best cities to live in Nigeria With the Functionalization of Bayelsa State International Airport, Glory Drive,expansion and Electrification of Tombia Round About etc.

There was drama in the Senate yesterday, following altercation between Senators Aishatu Dahiru, APC, Adamawa Central and Seriake Dickson, PDP, Bayelsa West, over comments on Bayelsa’s small population.
Trouble started during plenary when Senator Dahiru took a swipe at Bayelsa State, saying Mubi North’s population of 2,089,540 was much higher than the entire population of Bayelsa State which is currently 1,704,515.
Dahiru attacked the South South state when she led a debate on the general principles of the Bill for an Act to provide the legal framework to establish the Federal Medical Centre, Mubi, Adamawa State, and for related matters, 2021( SB.668), sponsored by her.
Presenting the bill, the Adamawa senator immediately veered off her presentation, alleging that the population in need of the facility in Mubi was more than that of some states like Bayelsa.
According to her, the town, Mubi, with a total land mass of 506.4km2 and a population of 759,045, is bound by neighbouring nine local government areas. “This together with the population of Mubi North makes it 2,089,540 people (very much higher than Bayelsa State’s eight local government areas, with a population of 1,704,515). “Nonetheless, this historic town has suffered from government neglect in terms of federal presence, especially in the area of tertiary healthcare delivery. “
Senator Dahiru’s argument did not go down well with Seriake Dickson, the immediate past governor of Bayelsa State, who was infuriated. Angered by the submissions, Senator Dickson quickly raised up his hand which the President of the Senate mistook for an intention to contribute to the debate and obliged him. Dickson, who lampooned the Adamawa senator, faulted her claim on Bayelsa population.
He declared that figures presented by Senator Dahiru were not verifiable, arguing in an angry tone that the size of Bayelsa, the physical land mass and the water bodies were thrice bigger than some states in the country. He said: “In my senatorial district, it will take me four days to go round. In my local government, Sagbama, it will take me three days to go round.
“I just felt I should rise to enlighten the sponsor of this bill and by so doing, the rest of the country.
“When people talk about population, they should be careful because if you go deep and ask who conducted the census, who verified what and what are counted, who are the residents and how justifiable?
Noting the dangerous trend the argument was taking, the Senate President, Ahmad Lawan, interjected and cautioned Dickson against imputing improper motives to the debate.
He said: “Apparently, I have to guide this contribution because you have made your point and, giving our standing orders, we shouldn’t impute improper motives to the submission by our colleagues.
“The discussion is not on the population of Bayelsa or population censors conducted before now. We should rather concentrate on the main focus, which is on the establishment of federal medical centre. “I agree that there are many questions people will like to raise, but I think the essence of this debate is to focus on the general principles and merits of the bill.”
Dickson, however, continued his presentation: “Debates and submissions in this hallowed chamber must be based on justifiable fact.
“I was only rising to enlighten, without prejudice to the merits or demerits of the bill, that the premise that she has put forward as a reason or one of the reasons this bill should be considered is faulty. That should be expunged, it should not form part of it. That is not factual, it is incorrect.’’
“We don’t have to come down and reduce the debate to reaction. You were in the House of Representatives before you became a governor, I’m very sure you are very conversant with our process here.( We don’t imput improper motives to debates or contributions or interventions by our colleagues.”
The bill was, however, passed for second reading after the rancorous debate.
