People are currently being called for top management interview. I have a colleague who received this mail. Those with sources should kindly verify.

That should be Access Bank ongoing recruitment. It is not related to NNPC.

It is funny how Access Bank recruitment process always causes "wahala" on this thread.

Official figures stated to those inducted during the last recruitment:

4374 were invited for interview
595 successful applicants were given APL.

347 Graduate Trainees
132 EH
116 Operators.

So I think it is normal to interview about 9000 if they are really planning for 1250 employee this time around.

May God help us.

A Quick question to honorable members (Local men & women) of this house:

By what means shall the APLs be delivered or sent to the successful candidates, would it be via e-mails or hand delivery(e.g NIPOST) or both ??

I'm asking because the way most people comment about receiving the APL, I imagine it could be received by midnight.

Cc: All experienced/Informed Local Men&women
Cc: Past NNPC GTs like Xfire et al.

Thanks in Anticipation of feedback.

No source, just deductions from the previous recruitment thread on NaijaHotJobs. The information below about the predicted APL dispatch next week is personal observation, not a fact just an opinion.

The last APLs were sent by courier service providers DHL, UPS, and FedEx. The dispatching lasted a week. They started dispatching it on Monday and almost every successful candidates received before the end of the week(a Friday). Some people's address was difficult to locate, so they had to individually go to the courier service HQ in their location to sort it out, so a few more got theirs the second week.

And the guy that predicted next week is probably right, during the last recruitment the final day of the dispatch was the first Friday of July (Friday, July 6th, 2012), and it was exactly a month before the induction start date which was the first Monday of the next month (Monday, August 6th, 2012).

2012 induction was done from August 6th to August 31st (3 weeks). After which the FSTP began by September 10th at Edjeba Learning Village (ELV), Warri. And I think it is a residential training with basic amenities and feeding provided.

Good morning everybody, this thread should be a source of information and knowledge pertaining to this recruitment. But lately, we have been deviating a lot from that. Creating confusion and panic.

As we continue to pray and hope for a favorable outcome I have been doing some personal digging into what next after the appointment for GT. And I have found some insight into the training process that will follow. The outcome of my search is more engineering inclined though, it may not be the same for all fields.

These are some useful weblinks coupled with some screenshots.

This is the website of the company that facilitated the last 3 NNPC Foundation Skills Training Programme (FSTP)

All the best for all hopefuls, keep the hope alive.

I'd like to get an opinion on how feasible chances are that one can get an admission to a research based masters program (especially in Computer Science/Engineering).

I've tried contacting a few professors to no relevant avail.

I've come to the understanding that unless you have a real concrete research proposal, efforts to directly contact potential supervisors will most likely be futile.

Has there been anyone in the forum who was successful in MSc. application without contacting a potential supervisor prior to applying (particularly in comp sci/eng)?

@michV @thesoj @yemdogg @Genius000 @QuantumMove01 your inputs will be appreciated.

@megziflips, you can search for @jengbetiele, he is currently undergoing his MSc in computer science in U of Saskatchewan. Also, you can go through his previous posts, he has a thread that he detailed his admission journey. You will find it helpful.

Hi,

It depends on the economic situation of the province at the moment. Alberta aint doing that well at the moment. I would say BC and Ontario should be good for Structural Engineering right now. Quebec is pretty much a French province and you'd need to speak fluent French to work there only if you live in Montreal which is Bi-lingual. If you go to Quebec city, Laval, Sherbrooke etc it is Bonjour everywhere.

As far as I know in Canada, companies do not care about the Canadian University you graduated from. I can confidently say that about so many companies both big and small. However some companies do give preferences to grad of certain universities for example, Fluor Corporation would go for UNB Alumni easily because a lot of their managers and workers are alumni. So I believe it is usually rare. Like my boss do not care what uni you finished from.

Also, most schools have good engineering programs that would do the job for you to be honest. I did my undergrad at the University of New Brunswick and they have a very good Civil Engineering program and it is relatively cheap and small. University of Toronto on the other hand is considered Canadas best, I can proudly say that but not the best in IT and Electrical programs and definitely not the best in Medicine and Health Sciences. University of Alberta is a top school for Chemical, Petroleum etc. So in short, you can hardly make the wrong choice at the end of the day.

Thank you for your input.

@ shinarambo1 and @ dogice

which province do you think have more opportunities for a structural engineer (concrete structures )?

between this major provinces (British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario and Quebec )

From your experience in engineering field in CA, do you think employers consider school reputation as a factor (among other things) in jobs?

and if so, can you please list some schools that are reputable in their engineering program.

Thanks in advance.

Recently i have been having second thoughts on focusing on canada alone with all the refusals here and there, i just want to be certain i am gonna leave to a better place

For engineering students that are eyeing USA as a second option, I can be of help with some little information. It is all about choice, but those with an intention of staying after studies should lean towards Canada. We are hoping that Trump will maintain the present OPT and H1B policy .

About one of those three guns, let me share little story so far.

I use to get all African professors say "no space" to my email but when one of them(non-african) approached them on my behalf, one of them was forced to confess that he had lost hope in potential African students because, no matter how promising they may appear, they don't get accepted. they are challenged by Americans and Chinese for just about 4 international student spaces, masters and PhD included, and always not get accepted. he said he doesn't want to be heartbroken anymore. So, he can't take the offer.
His reply email was forwarded to me and I saw it with my eyes. Then, my supervisor asked if I am prepared for the worst and I replied yes that it won't be their first cos I had been rejected once. grin

The reasons I am reapplying there are because of my supervisor amazing support - she went ahead to get other professors to say yes, their rejected post mail that I still keep in my wardrobe as ginger no to give up, and I still believe in miracle (humans are there not angels). I have Uvic,Ucal as backups and still praying for favour.

So my brothers and sisters, If you are going for the super 3, have a superb proposed research, fantastic GP, and please have backup. It will end with praises.

2017 will be glorious. cool

All will be well. We have to try our best to present our applications in a way that it will stand out in the midst of several fellow applicants. Especially, if it is a thesis based graduate program (the competition for funding is fierce). So it is wise to spread the risk by applying to schools in different tiers of admission competitiveness/selectivity.

I Dont think It will be a problem if ones name is included as first author or not. Provided your name is there amongst the authors it shud suffice. Some of the publications of the faculty members u see on their webpage doesn't even have their names as first authors.

I'd love to apply for more schools but I Dont want to Overburden my reference providers. Having to respond to five applications is already too much for one person don't u think.

The job experience in your field and the published journal is a big advantage for you.

About applying to one more school, if you have the financial means. There is no harm in giving it a try, asking your referees for one more reference letter shouldn't be a problem. Try to let them understand why you need their help one more time. All the best Sir.

@free radical, I will advise you to apply to only one of the top tier schools (U of T, McGill, UBC).

It is not unusual to see Canadians, Chinese and Indians with perfect undergraduate GPA (4.00/4.00 or 10/10) and published undergraduate thesis applying to this top schools, unless you have a very high GPA or published thesis in your field it will be better to look for backups.

Apply to two mid tier schools (U of Alberta, Calgary, Waterloo, Western Ontario, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Dalhousie, Ottawa ).

You can check your program in each schools , availability of potential supervisor in your intended research field and the possibility of guaranteed funding to make your choice.

We all shall have a prosperous year ahead full of TRV success for the applicants, academic success for our bro/sis in CA, and blessings for all our gurus taking time in their busy schedule to give us informations.

Universities among the U15(you can check the list on wiki) Canadian universities spend huge money on research every year(endowments)... for students intending to do a thesis/research based MSC or PhD with a 2.1 GPA(some schools among those 15 schools consider last 2 years GPA).... there is high possibilities of financial funding, if you can search your departments in this schools....take note that unless you have an excellent grade and previous research experience stay from some of the schools(i.e UBC, McGill, U of T)

Politics / Opinion: Igbos Must Realise That They Are Everywhere by iamlimitless: 6:52am On Jun 14, 2016
Opinion: Igbos must realise that they are everywhere

Editor’s note : Some Igbos have expressed their displeasure in the plan to build ranches for herdsmen in different parts of the country while some have called for them to return to their homes.

In this opinion, Churchill Okonkwo points out that Igbos are scattered across Nigeria doing business and making money and will suffer it most if people are forced back to their regions.

Go back home?

With a clouded mind and distorted vision, you fabricate tales of absurdity in the name of braveness. You combine narratives of love and hatred; birth and abortions. You sneeze and crack your head in an attempt to force the transfer of Apapa Port to the dry banks of the Niger River. You turn your back against the world as if it’s an honor. Sounds like a good idea, but, permit me to peel back just the top layer of your over overstuffed ego and show you that you have lost your virginity – your virginity of pure heart and clear thoughts.
A good friend of mine recently screamed on his Facebook page, “Fulani Herdsmen! Fulani Herdsmen!! Fulani Herdsmen!!!” After blabbing for a while, he provokingly concluded that in the “next 50 years children of Ndigbo will think Fulanis are their brothers by virtue of the dominance on the grazing reserves in Southeastern Nigeria where they have settled. And in the case of a conflict, you can’t send them back. Back to where?” he asked boldly.
For the record, I am in support of ranches as part of the solution to the herdsmen-farmers conflict, but when I came across this, I realized the dangers of allowing such misconceptions (in relation to who is a brother and who should be sent home) to fly and I felt the need to correct him. So, I responded by telling him that he is feverish. I then reminded him that his Igbo brothers and sisters have settled in the north (since time immemorial), living in their mansions there and raising their families while speaking Hausa fluently. In return, I asked him to tell me what the Hausa-Fulanis are telling their kids now and what will they tell them in 50 years to come about his Igbo brothers?
After a while, he came back and saluted me, he then said that “there is a big difference between Igbos in the North that acquire plots of land disparately to build houses, than acquiring large expanse of land as grazing reserve and subsequently settling there with their Emirs, women, children and etc., etc.”
Again, I ignored his reference to grazing (that’s fear mongering) and focused on his allusion to “Emirs”, “settling”, “women” and “children.” So, I came back and asked him what if his Igbo people had been denied those plots of land in Kano or Lagos or Kaduna simply because of their ethnicity or out of the fear that they will settle and not return back “home”? I asked him whether he has ever heard about Eze-Igbo in Lagos and Kano; I informed him that his kinsmen come with their women and brothers in swoops, taking over all business ventures (as well as “terrorizing” the local population with their wealth) where they settled. At this point, he crawled back inside his hole (hopefully to digest the brief exchange).

Who will be the worst affected?

I also want you to take your time to digest the exchange above.
As you attempt to come up with an excuse to justify your position (I know there are more than enough), here is my question: if it becomes the standard to send people of different ethnicities and/or religions “back home” when there is a conflict with their “host” communities in Nigeria, which ethnic group will be most affected? If Nigerians who move around to do their businesses are first assessed and approved based on the potential emotional, cultural, economic, religious or social pain and/or conflict that may happen up at some point, which ethnic group will be most affected?
Think deeply about that. You see, I have always wondered why people who live in a glass house are the ones provoking and demanding for a stone-throwing fight with their neighbors living in a mud house (I don’t mean any offense here).
You cannot have a sincere conversation (even with yourself) with a closed mind. Can’t you see that you are even betraying yourself? You tie yourself in knots as you call for the destruction of the “zoo” even as you open your shops in Alaba and Ladipo Market (in the same zoo) all in a single breath. In your crooked thinking you reminded me that the cattle belong to rich individuals and as such they should sort themselves out with ranches if they can. You forgot that States and LGAs all over Nigeria committed serious efforts and resources into providing land and market space for your Igbo brothers before its development and then heavy tax and Why can’t the same be applied to the rich cattle owners by helping find land for ranches and then levy them? What will happen if states in the North decide not to help provide alternative market places for your rich Igbo brothers after preventing them from doing street business?

How Igbos are benefitting from the rest of the country

You are an Efulefu (take note of a redefinition of that word) when you attempt to portray yourself as the only wise man from the east, but end up betraying and putting the lives of your brothers and sisters all over Nigeria at risk. You are full of yourself as you go about bragging about your high level of intelligence oblivious of how your action is betraying your brothers and sisters in the Federal Civil Service, multinational corporations and other work places across Nigeria. Because of your actions and big mouth, they moan that they have been sidelined by other tribes in promotions and appointments.
You don’t have enough money to buy a shop at Ariaria Market Aba, so you hang around the market struggling to make ends meet. Your brother who has been living in Kano for more than 20 years with his family calls you to find out how mama is doing, you informed him that mama is not feeling well and needs to be taken to a hospital but that there is no money. You then reminded him that you have ran out of cement for his building project in the village and that he should send additional money. He agrees to send some money first thing on Monday morning. You drop the phone and join the mob on the street calling for the destruction of the zoo – the same zoo that is sustaining you brother, his family, you, your family and your mama?
As we all continue to fall in love with these seductive whispers of war, here is my advice: forget about your warmongers go and read about Burundi and Rwanda. If you cannot read, go and watch the movie Hotel Rwanda, so you can learn one or two things about brutal war and the real meaning of genocide or ethnic cleansing.
Flashback: try and remember what happened in 1993 during the last “Oso Abiola.” You all ran back to your enclave (surrounded by hostile neighbors) abandoning all your businesses and properties in the zoo. So, when the drum of war starts to beat again, where will you be? In a refugee camp in Cameroon, Togo, Ghana or Benin Republic?
I have stepped forward, raised my right hand and I will not run nor hide. Until I am confronted with a superior argument on why a people that have spread their tentacles and taproots across Nigeria are the same people going around and promoting hatred and cultural mistrust, I will never stop writing. All I know and care about is that I am standing straight. So, I need not worry about my crooked and odd shadow.

Romance / Is Marriage A Destination Or A Journey? Thoughts On Marriage by iamlimitless: 6:46pm On May 05, 2016
From the day we are born we are shaped by the relationships of the people around us and the relationships we form. Of course there is the initial relationship and bond you form with your mother. There is also the familial bond. If we are born to a two parent family, the relationship between our parents help to shape us. If we are born into single parent households, our parent’s relationship with people of the opposite sex also help to shape us. This is a simplistic yet somewhat effective Freudian analysis. What are we but the by-products of our upbringing and experiences and this extends into the realm of relationships.
As we grow up we inevitably start to have crushes and affections towards other people, could be of the same sex or other sex (depending on your preference). You sit in class and stare dreamily at him/her unsure of what you are feeling or how to express these feelings that you have. You wait for the person to notice you. You eventually move on to another crush. Perhaps this crush reciprocates you attention and you hold hands for the first time. Eventually you share your first kiss with someone, perhaps it was starry night and the cool evening breeze was blowing and you stared into each other’s eyes, watching to see who makes the first move, two gladiators upon the sands of “love”. Then maybe you leaned over to give her a hug and you notice that her mouth was puckered. You went for it and put to practice what you had seen in the movies. Were there fireworks when you kissed her? Did birds start singing? I doubt it. Fast forward to the first time your konji was not satisfied by your own hands and was satisfied by someone else through the process of making love. Depending on your school of thought, this might have happened after you got married which defeats the point of this description I am trying to put together.
Along the line you had long term and short term relationships, situations that you thought will last forever but did not and situations you knew from the beginning would not last. Eventually you find your sweetheart, your soulmate, the only sugar in your tea, the only cockroach in your wardrobe, the only water in your desert, the only meat in your pepper soup, the only suya on your stick, that person who you want to be with forever more. You get married and in your mind you believe this is it. You have finally found happiness, you are fulfilled. The journey to find happiness is complete. Right? Right? Wrong!
Problems start to develop, its not the happily ever after you wished for. You start to develop a pot belly, she gets fat as well. You dont get butterflies in your stomach when you see her (frankly if you have butterflies in your stomach you might need to have a purgative). I mean, you are still excited to see her but its not like the first time. The honeymoon phase passes and it segues into the trying to live together phase which brings its own brand of problems. You have kids, you get busier. The love life is not what it used to be. You go from marathon runner to coming faster than Usain Bolt on the track. Why? Now If I could answer that question definitively, I would be a billionaire. Unfortunately I do not know the answer and I am not a billionaire yet. However I will give my two cents, maybe the problem with marriage or commitment is that we see marriage or long term commitment as a destination and not a journey in itself.
If you visit the blog, it is obvious that I am Nigerian. Proud of it. No shame in my game but one thing I know that our people seem to be obsessed with is this idea of marriage. Woe betide you if you are woman, depending on how liberal your parents are you will begin to receive immense pressure to get married once you complete your tertiary education and by tertiary education I mean your bachelor’s degree. Some parents might put the pressure on when you finish your masters but it varies. Basically once they feel you are old enough the pressure begins. Why did I mention marriage and the first thing I talked about is parents, well in our society parent’s hold an immense influence on their children. They pay for most of your education and are the custodians of what is right and wrong in your culture since they are older. It is also a respect thing. Marriage is the point of emancipation for most Nigerian youth. Once you are married, you parents traditionally should wield less influence except maybe the naming of your kids.
The point is there is an expectation on both men and women in our society to get married. Marriage is seen as the ultimate sign of responsibility. You are not a responsible man or woman if you reach a certain age and you are not married. As much as women have a lot of pressure from our society to get married. Men also get pressure to get married. In my culture (my specific ethnic culture not necessarily all of Nigeria) a man who waits until he is too old (this is anything from late 30s) to get married is perceived to be impotent, basically people will begin to question if your jibby (this is my word for the male organ of fertility) works.
The result of this school of thought is a group of 30 something year old women running around looking to get married and settle down and ready to settle for people that might not be the best for them. To these people marriage is a do or die affair. It is the destination. It is el-dorado. The proverbial land filled with milk and honey. It is the promised land. You might not have the 40 something year old men running around of course basically because they have these 30 something year old women to chose from and if they are wealthy they can even go into the lower age bracket (topic for another day). This mindset is the fuel behind the “Pastor, help me find a husband” ministry. That special ed ministry where the pastor who is also single has a revelation that he should marry the hottest woman in his congregation. This is a million naira/dollar industry depending on your estimates of how many people put in special offering or tithes so that they get good husband/wife or people who pay for church organized singles seminars or shows. This is also the driving force behind the love potion from babalawo industry. Yet another million dollar industry. If marriage was not made to be such a big deal and people were more focused on taking their time to find a suitable partner, do you think people will visit native/witch doctors to get juju/jazz medicine to hook the handsome and eligible young bachelor they just started dating so that he will commit to them? I do not think so.
The media has also put into our heads the concept of finding Mr/Mrs Perfect, and that happily ever after that is promised once we get marriage. Ladies and Gentlemen, this is a myth and like my father would say “a tale told by an idiot full of vim and fury.” Marriage is not a destination, it is a journey that begins once you say “I do” and hopefully ends when you die. Marriage is not something to be rushed into because society expects you to. It is something you do when you feel the time is right. Happily ever after only occurs in the movies. Real happiness in marriage is learning to love your partner even when they start to change and they are not the person you married. Real happiness is being married for 30 years and still enjoying each others company and conversation. Marriage is sharing in the good and the bad. Marriage is a process of getting to know more and more about your partner. Marriage is excavating your partners soul and finding out the things he/she kept hidden from you during your courtship and deciding to love these things. Maybe if more people saw marriage this way, we would have less divorces.

all is well...This country will be great when we realise that having a degree is not about having a good grade alone, it should be about developing your creative ability and applying it to make a significant impact on the society...this should be the motivation for education not having a grade that will serve only as a meal ticket.

For URP students looking for IT placement, you can try out some surveying(Land, Quantity or Geological survey) firm. You can do this by searching online and specifying the city you prefer. For Civil Engineering Students looking for IT placement in Ibadan, you can try out Etteh & Aro and partners, BT Struct, Ade Adewole & associate, Trecon, Intecon, Pentagon etc..these are top notch civil engineering firms that deals with both Structural and Highway design. Apply early to their offices because most will conduct interview/test evaluation.
